CAROLE JANE (BRANDT) PFEFFER

Carole Jane (Brandt) Pfeffer was born the daughter of Arno and Lillie (Krueger) Brandt at the Brandt family farm outside of Bellville on January 13, 1932. Carole grew up in Bellville, attended the Cochran School, and received her Certificate of Confirmation from St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville on April 14, 1946. In 1949, during a district meeting in Brenham, Carole was voted Queen of the Ninth District Farm Bureau and attended the sixteenth annual state competition at the Baker Hotel in Dallas with her mother. Carole graduated from Bellville High School in 1950, and a year later, on June 24, 1951, married Milton Lee Pfeffer at the St. John Lutheran Church. Together, they remained in Bellville until Milton was inducted into the United States Army in 1953. After Milton completed basic training, the two moved to Fort Bliss, El Paso.

There, Carole worked for the Mountain States Telephone Company as a telephone operator and as typical of the work ethic she carried through her life, was awarded for never missing a day of work.

After Milton's service in the Army, the couple returned to Bellville to build their permanent home and begin a family of their own. Upon returning to Bellville, Carole and Milton lived with her sister, Gloria, and his brother, Wilford, for a short time until construction on their home was completed. Carole began work at Southwestern Bell, was later employed by Willrodt's Gift Shop, and retired as a receptionist at Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville. Carole enjoyed flowers and gardening, but was always known as the quintessential homemaker and drew her passion for cooking, baking, sewing, and cleaning from her love of family. Those closest to Carole found it impossible to stop by for an unexpected visit and stumble on her home in any condition but pristine.

An exceptional seamstress, Carole sewed everything from her daughters' clothes as they grew older to her grandchildren’s Halloween costumes and the occasional torn blue jean hem. She even, with the help of her mother and mother-in-law, sewed her daughter's wedding dress.

Carole loved the church where she was baptized, confirmed, married , an active member of the Ruth Circle, and was sure to be found every Sunday morning before her health rendered her unable.

Carole is survived by her HUSBAND OF 58 YEARS: Milton Pfeffer; DAUGHTERS: Donna Schmidt Fricke and husband, Wayne, of Brookshire and Jan Barnett and husband, Jack, of La Porte; GRANDSONS: Steven Schmidt, Jr. and wife, Dawn, of Brookshire and Captain Ryan Schmidt, currently in Afghanistan, and his wife, Captain Jessica Schmidt of Colorado Springs, Colorado: GREAT GRANDSONS: Tyler Schmidt of Brookshire and Blake Schmidt of Colorado Springs, Colorado; SISTERS: Gloria Pfeffer and husband, Wilford, and Jewel Fay Fontenot; BROTHER: Glenn Brandt; all of Bellville, and many other relatives and dear friends.
