Charlie 'Butch' McDonald

NEW BOSTON, TEXAS - Charlie “Butch” McDonald, age 82 of Simms, Texas passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010 in a New Boston Nursing Facility. Mr. McDonald was born May 19, 1927 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Simms, a Deacon, a Boy Scout Leader, a retired Mill Wright at Red River Army Depot, an United States Marine Veteran and is preceded in death by a son, Ronald H. McDonald, and two brothers, James and Franklin McDonald.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline McDonald of Simms, Texas, three sons, Gary Lynn McDonald of DeKalb, Texas, Donald Glenn McDonald of Foreman, Arkansas, Charles D. McDonald of Simms, Texas, one brother, Hershal McDonald of New Boston, Texas, five sisters, Jo Loden of Derby, Kansas, Martha Jones of New Boston, Texas, Lucille Chisum of Redwater, Texas, Laverne Brown of Maud, Texas, Sandra Mixon of Gilmer, Texas, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in the Bates-Rolf Chapel, New Boston with Rev. Tracy Wilkes and Rev. Steve Minter officiating. Interment icon will be in Sand Hill cemetery, Simms, under the direction of Bates-Rolf, New Boston. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Simms First Baptist Church.

Earl R. Sabo

Earl Ray Sabo went peacefully in his sleep to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the age of 80.

Mr. Sabo was born November 5, 1929 in Farmington, West Virginia. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served six years as a military police officer. He was formerly employed as Captain for the Hobbs, New Mexico Police Department for six and a half years. For eleven years he worked at Day and Zimmerman Inc. as a guard. Former Sheriff of Bowie County, Texas from 1973-1981 and a small business owner of the Korner Mart in Nash, Texas; for twenty one years before retiring.

Mr. Sabo was a member of National Sheriff's Association for twenty seven years.

Earl was a quiet and gentle spirit. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. Earl�s faith was a major part of his life. He was a member of Hampton Road Church of Christ. Earl loved talking about West Virginia and would have loved one last trip up to the “old home place”. Earl loved his kids and grandkids dearly. He loved watching all kinds of sports, talking politics, and playing golf, his 1963 1/2 Ford Falcon that he lovingly restored with his friend, Don Rich, eating all kinds of food, a good round of dominos with his buddies, reading enormous amounts of Christian literature and his Bible, and the Texas Longhorns. Grandpa will be missed.

He is survived by his wife Emily Sabo of Texarkana, Texas. They were married June 10, 1960, and would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary this year. One daughter and son-in-law: Sabrina and Shayne Woodard of Austin, Texas; one son: Shane Sabo of Texarkana, Texas; three granddaughters: Whitney Woodard, Abbey Woodard and Anney Woodard of Austin, Texas; one grandson: Seth Sabo of Texarkana, Texas; one surviving brother: Jack W. Sabo of Severn, Maryland; several nieces, nephews, host of friends and other relatives.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday at Chapelwood Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Monholland, Shayne Woodard Joe Chase and Carl Teel officiating. Burial be will in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.

Those wishing to memorialize Mr. Sabo may make contributions to the American Juvenile Diabetes Association.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P. M.

Mary Sue Hill

Mary Sue Dickert Hill, 78, of Dallas, TX, formerly of Texarkana, died Monday, March 1, 2010, in a Farmers Branch nursing center. She was born October 31, 1931, in McKamie, AR. She was retired from Day and Zimmermann as a scale mechanic and was a member of Beech Street First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben T. Hill, Jr.

She is survived by two sons, John Wayne McKnight and George Harrison McKnight; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and John Eriksen; 6 grandchildren, Rhonda Holder, Giana Slavinsky, Rusty McKnight, George McKnight II, Greg Eriksen and Randy Eriksen; 8 great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Texarkana Funeral Home Chapel, Texas. Private entombment will be in Chapelwood Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 pm Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Alliance or to a charity of your choice.

Sherwood H. Adams Sr.

Sherwood H. Adams, Sr. age 64 of Nash, Texas, died Monday, March 1, 2010 in Texarkana.

Mr. Adams was born October 11, 1945 in Texarkana, Arkansas. He was a retired street superintendent for the city of Texarkana, Texas. He was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Choir member of First Baptist Church, Nash, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Adams of Nash; one daughter and son in-law, Lynn & Kevin McGonigal of Texarkana; one son Woody Adams of Texarkana; one brother and sister in-law, Les & Kelly Adams of Diana, Tx.; one sister and brother in-law, Janet & Don Roberts of Spring, Tx.; 5 grandchildren, one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Friday at First Baptist Church, Nash, Tx. with Pastor Dennis Whitmire and Pastor Tim Strebeck officiating.

Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Colonel James Archie Lacy
5/20/1929 - 3/1/2010

James Archie Lacy was born May 29, 1929 in Winona, TX the son of Virginia Eitel and Walter Lacy. He was preceded in death by his brothers Jack Lacy and William Lacy. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marianna Lacy; daughters Angela Lewis (David) of Pensacola, FL and Cindy Conley (Les) of Canton, GA; brothers Howard Eitel of Texarkana (Macy), Robert Eitel (Judy) of Redwater, TX; grandchildren Lacy Lewis, Michael Lewis (Brooke), Lance Conley, Jimmy Conley; one great-grandchild Vincent Lewis.

James graduated from Redwater High School in 1947, where he excelled in basketball and track, earning All District honors. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from East Texas State University in Commerce, TX.

James had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force, reaching the rank of Colonel and serving as Director of the 14th Air Force Air Medical Evacuation Units for the Northeastern United States. He is remembered for his outstanding leadership and organizational skills. Colonel Lacy received the Legion of Merit Award for Exceptionally Meritorious Conduct in the Performance of Outstanding Services, as well as The Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award. In honor of his retirement in 1987, the U.S. Flag flown over our nation's Capitol that day was presented to Colonel Lacy at the request of the Honorable Senator Sam Nunn of Georgia.

James was a gifted musician playing the guitar and piano. He enjoyed singing as well as playing music and was an outstanding songwriter and poet. He performed professionally and recorded several CDs.

James was a wonderful husband, father, granddaddy, great granddaddy, brother, son, and friend to many. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, kind spirit, gift of music, service to his country, and love of his family.

Services will be held at Chapelwood Funeral Home in Nash, TX on Friday, March 5th, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Steve Rice officiating. Interment icon to follow at Redwater Cemetary in Redwater, TX. Visitation will take place Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 at the Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Music Fund of the First Baptist Church of Redwater, P. O. Box 98, Redwater, Texas 75573.

Tom Wallen

NEW BOSTON, TEXAS - Tom Wallen, age 79 of New Boston, Texas passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Wallen was born July 17, 1930 in Bonham, Texas to the late Thomas M. and Lilly Durbin Wallen. He served 4 years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He was a retired Firefighter, worked as an Aviation mechanic, was a member of the First Baptist Church, New Boston and was an active member of The Lone Star Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jerry London Wallen, two sons and one daughter in law, Michael Allen and Geneva Wallen of Denton, Texas, Kenneth Wayne Wallen of New Boston, Texas, granddaughters Brittani Nicole Wallen and Rachel Elizabeth Wallen of The Home, Melissa Wallen of Denton, grandsons, Matthew Wallen of New Boston, David Dick of Denton, Jeremy Spruill of Gainsville, and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the First Baptist Church, New Boston with Bro. Ken Cox and Bro. Terry Hughes officiating. Interment icon will be in New Boston cemetery, New Boston under the direction of Bates-Rolf New Boston. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 Saturday at the funeral home.

Donations for the family may be made through the First Baptist Church, New Boston, 506 S McCoy Blvd, New Boston, Texas.

Joyce Lummus

Thurman Joyce Lummus, age 80, of Texarkana, Texas, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 in a local retirement center.

Mr. Lummus was born September 19, 1929 in Cass County, Texas and was the co-owner of Hopkins Feed & Seed.

Survivors include his wife Jo Lummus of Texarkana, Texas; one daughter, Toni Hall of Carrollton, Texas; two sons, Clay Humphrey of Redwater, Texas, Jeff Lummus of Redwater, Texas; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday at the Grace Church with Rev. Orville Farren officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas.
