Orville C. Surley
Funeral services were held for Orville C. Surley, 69, of Brownwood, on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at 4 p.m., at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood, with the Rev. Don Scott officiating. Surley was born on Feb. 27, 1931, in Meridian, to Chris and Alma Bakke Surley. He passed away on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Surley served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 14, 1951 until July 17, 1953, and was ranked as a Corporal at the time of his discharge. On Oct. 18, 1953, he married
Virginia Louise Stephens in Plainview. He had resided in Brownwood since 1976. He was a farmer, rancher, and retired tool distributor. He was a member of the Boer Goat Association and the First United Methodist Church. Family requests memorials be made to the National Brain Tumor Foundation or the National Cancer Society. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Irvin Surley. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Surley of Brownwood; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Arnold and Pamela Surley of San Angelo, and Morris and Carol Surley of Brownwood; one daughter, Leslie Surley of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren, Christian, Loren, and Kortney Surley; four brothers, Joe Surley of Pottsville, Eldon Surley of Colleyville, Pernie Surley of Clifton, and Curtis Surley of Plainview; three sisters, Ana Marie Simmons of Cranfills Gap, Irma Wilcox of Sun City, Ariz., and Alice Jeschke of Hamilton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment
was in Eastlawn Memorial Park in Brownwood under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Anthony L. (Rusty) Anderson
Funeral services were held for Anthony L. (Rusty) Anderson, 40, of Laguna Park, on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at 2 p.m., in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Creech officiating. He was born Aug. 19, 1960, in Wichita Falls where he was raised and educated. He passed away on Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, in the Meridian Manor. Anderson enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1979. After his discharge, he moved to Meridian where he lived for several years. On May 18, 1984, he married
Linda Stanton in Meridian and the couple moved to Laguna Park where Rusty operated his own welding shop. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Linda Anderson; and three sons, Travis Anderson and Sean and Jeremy Tergerson, all of Laguna Park; his father, Ron Anderson and wife, Linda, of Meridian; his mother, Ann Hardy and husband, Gordon, of Anniston, Ala.; and four brothers, Larry, Gary, Matt, and Scott Anderson. Pallbearers included Dan Williams, Pat Jordon, Ernest Dunn, Gene Buckler, Russell Tomcavage, Mark Wilson, Joe Banner, and Bubba Hill. Interment
was in Spring Creek cemetery under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian.
Myrtle J. Thompson
Funeral services were held for Myrtle J. Thompson, 87, of Clifton, on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at 10 a.m., at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at the Bethel Lutheran Church at Ericksdahl. She was born on June 11, 1913, in Leuders. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude T. Thompson in 1998. Memorials may be made to the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn (Lynn) and husband Phill Bowers of Clifton; a sister, Maurice Gerloff of Abilene; three grandchildren, Mike and wife, Khristi Bowers of Clifton, Jon and wife, Audrie Bowers of Midlothian, and Robyn and husband, David Mayfield of Waco; and three great-grandchildren, Colton, Bailey, and Jacob Bowers.
Ernest O. Greenwade
Funeral services were held for Ernest O. Greenwade, 72, of Meridian, on Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Meridian First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Richard Creech and Rev. Ed Stauffer, officiating. Greenwade was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Clifton, the son of the late Pike Thompson and Lillie Bell Behringer Greenwade. He passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, in Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. He attended school in Meridian and graduated from Iredell High School. In September, 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for 23 years before retiring in 1969, with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. On Oct. 16, 1965, he married
Billie Dittfurth Greenwade. The couple had two daughters, Kristie and Karen, and one son, Keith. He then moved back to Meridian where he worked for two years with the Texas Highway Department and later worked with the U.S. Post Office for 17 years. During that time he enjoyed farming and ranching. Greenwade was a member of the Meridian First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, a life member of the Iredell VFW Post, a member of the Meridian Masonic Lodge, and also served for several years as president of the Mustang Water Board. Memorials may be made to the Meridian First Baptist Church building fund. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Jewel Greenwade, in 1970; and also by his parents, three sisters, and one brother. Survivors include his wife, Billie Dittfurth Greenwade of Meridian; one daughter, Kristie Moreland and husband, Steven, of Austin; one son, Keith Greenwade and wife, Rhonda, of Grand Prairie; three grandchildren, Kameron and Kaleb Greenwade, and Dawson Moreland; two sisters, Pauline Garwood and and Lila Dittfurth and husband, Raymond, all of Fort Worth; one brother, Carthol Greenwade of Meridian; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers were Gene Harville, Ward Tucker, Billy Moore, Bob Patton, James Pennington, and Ron Bowlin. Interment
was in Meridian cemetery, under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian, with the Iredell VFW Post #8559 in charge of military rites.
Linda Jean Bohannon Hickman
Funeral services were held for Linda Jean Bohannon Hickman, 46, of Valley Mills, on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the First Baptist Church of Valley Mills, with the Rev. Kyle Reese officiating. Hickman was born on Feb. 27, 1954, in Missouri. She passed away on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in a Temple Hospital. She had lived in Valley Mills for the past 10 years and was the daughter of Harold and Ina (Hahn) Bohannon. She was employeed as an LVN at Meridian Manor. Survivors include one son, Chris Oliver of Valley Mills; two daughters, Lisa Fernadez of Waco, and Krystal McGaugh of Valley Mills; eight brothers, Charles Lee McIntyre, Robert Bonhannon, Gary Bonannon, Kevin Bohannon, Harold David Bohannon, James Jeffery Bohannon, Paul Bohannon, and Jesse Bohannon; three sisters, Sherry Walls, Ina Darlene Bohannon, and Judith Kay Willis; and two grandchildren, Haylee and Branden Keplinger.
Dorothy Sanders
Funeral services were held for Dorothy Sanders, 90, of Waco, on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Searsville Baptist Chruch with the Rev. Steve Adams and Rev. Kyle Reese officiating. Sanders was born Oct. 18, 1910, in New Jersey. She was the daughter of Louis and Pearl (D’Edwine) English. She passed away on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in a Waco hospital. She was a member of the Parkview Baptist Church in Waco. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.M. Sanders, Sr.; a daughter, Doris; a son, O.M. Sanders, Jr.; and a grandson, Steven Clemons. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara A. Murphree of Valley Mills and Dorothy R. Karpinsky of Waco; two sons, Robert Hamill and wife, Lee, of Delaware, and John Hamill and wife, Fredda, of Florida; four step-children, Dorman Sanders of Valley Mills, and Mildred Standford, nadine Welborn, and Jean Bass, all of Waco; one brother, Louis English of Delaware; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren. was in Valley Mills cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home of Valley Mills.
Vera Jean Alfie
Funeral services were held for Vera Jean Alfie, 93, on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at 11 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Randy Bard of Christ Lutheran, Fort Worth, presiding. Vera Jean was born on Oct. 5, 1907, in Joaquin, to Florence Donahue and William Jean. She died on Dec. 26, 2000, at the IHS Nursing Home of Benbrook. She married
Eavin Alfie and they had two children. She lived in Clifton for 40 years and Crowley for 11 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eavin Alfie, in 1983, and two children. Survivors include four grandchildren, Beth Martin and husband, Lanny, of Fort Worth, Richard Alfie and Bert Alfie of Crowley, and Vera Alfie of Arlington; one daughter-in-law, Mary Alfie of Arlington; and two great-grandchildren, David Martin of Fort Worth and Misty Sonntag of Fort Worth. Interment
was in Trinity Lutheran cemetery of Clifton under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
Arnold Carl Braune
Funeral services were held for Arnold Carl Braune, 89, of Clebrune, on March 26, 2001, at the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel, at 2 p.m., the Rev. Charles Rice of Zion United Church officiating. Arnold Carl Braune was born in the Chase Community, on May 1, 1911, to Carl Braune and Alma Bernhardt Braune. He died on March 24, 2001, in Cleburne. He attended Womack School and was a lifetime member of Zion United Church in Womack. On Oct. 30, 1934, he married
Christine Helms in Glen Rose. He had lived in Fairview, Cotvilla, and Bell County, but he returned to Bosque County. He was retired from Wilson, farming, and grocery. He was an avid fisherman and loved his grandson. He loved baseball, basketball, football, and the Texas Rangers. He did not know a stranger and will be remembered as being likeable and honest. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine and one son who was still-born. Survivors include a son, Garland Braune and his wife, Linda Braune of Clebrune; one grandson, Ross Braune; and a sister, Caroline Braune Miller. Pallbearers included Colby Sorrells, Mike Conrad, Bill Helms, Donald Forson, Fred Henkelman, and Ross Braune. Interment

Thelma M. Kleine Harris
Funeral services were held for Thelma M. Kleine Harris, 78, of Clifton, on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at 2 p.m., in the First United Methodist Church of Clifton, with the Rev. Marvin Moore officiating. Thelma M. Kleine was born on Nov. 1, 1922, in Womack, the daughter of the late Edward and Aurina (Shroeder) Kleine. She was raised and educated in the Bosque County area. On January 18, 1941, she married
Johnnie Albert Harris. They enjoyed farming together. She was retired from Walls Industries and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clifton. She enjoyed working in her garden and making quilts and crafts. She enjoyed sharing her garden vegetables and crafts with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Johnnie A. Harris, on Sept. 25, 1991, and by an infant daughter, Janice Ann Harris, on Jan. 19, 1954. Survivors include two sons, Johnnie Wayne Harris of Meridian, and Edward Ray (Boots) Harris of Alvarado; three grandsons, one granddaughter; six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Edmond Kleine, Melvin Kleine, and Erwin Kleine; three sisters, Edna Meinkowsky, Clara Dee Bronstad, and Geneva Coughlin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Interment
was in Clifton cemetery under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
