Sue Roberts
Memorial service was held for Sue Roberts, 61, of Cranfills Gap, on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at the First Baptist Church in Cranfills Gap, with the Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Nita Sue Parish was born Dec. 10, 1939, in Dallas, the daughter of Carl Parish and Naomi Kilgore Parish. She died on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Cranfills Gap. She was raised and educated in Dallas. On Nov. 4, 1955, she married
Richard Roberts in Dallas. They spent several years in Dallas, before moving to Oklahoma. After several years in Oklahoma they returned to Texas, moving to Cranfills Gap nine years ago. Survivors include her husband, Richard Roberts of Cranfills Gap; two daughters, Carla Owens of Cranfills Gap, and Kimberly Middleton and her husband, Curtis, of Mesquite; one brother, Carl Parish of Cranfills Gap; two sisters, Margeline Terrell and Elsie Parish, both of Cranfills Gap; one sister-in-law, Doris Miller of Irving; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian was in charge of arrangements.
J.W. Shipp
Funeral services were held for J.W. Shipp, 81, of Walnut Springs, on Monday, June 4, 2001, at 3 p.m., at the Walnut Springs Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Danny Niedecken officiating. Shipp was born on Jan. 28, 1920, near Bullard in Smith County, Texas, the son of William Wesley and Maye Terrell Shipp. He died on Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. He grew up in Bullard and after completion of school, he worked in the CCC camps. On Nov. 25, 1942, he was united in marriage to Arlene Rundell in Walnut Springs. The couple moved to Fort Worth, where he worked for several years with Consolidated. In 1947, they returned to Walnut Springs where Shipp farmed and ranched before beginning his long career with Production Credit Association in Waco. He retired in 1985 after 27 years of employment. After his retirement, Shipp became an avid golf player and also loved to hunt, especially birds. He was a loyal member of the Walnut Springs Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Walnut Springs Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, and also the Order of Eastern Star. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco or the Walnut Springs Memorial United Methodist Church. Shipp was preceded in death by a daughter, Theoresa Jean Shipp, in 1950. Survivors include his wife, Arlene Rundell Shipp of Walnut Springs; a daughter, Darlene Munden and husband, Phillip, of Morgan; grandsons, Brent Munden and wife, Gail, of China Spring, and Kent Munden and wife, Kim, of Clifton; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trent, Kade, and Kassidy Munden; three sisters, Sue Bell Newburn of Bullard, Faustine Stephens of Englewood, Colo., and Odell Stevens of Bull Shoals, Ark.; one brother, Max Shipp of Bullard; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers included Brent Munden, Kent Munden, Jerry Lamb, Theo Ray Sartor, Frank White, and Tene Albrecht. Honorary pallbearers included Dr. Richard Spitzer, David Sartor, Merlin Woodward, Ron Stephens, Rick Stephens, Burley Lamb, and Jack Hart. Interment
was in the Russell cemetery near Walnut Springs under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian.
Regina Ann Tergerson
Graveside funeral services for Regina Ann Tergerson, 64, of Cranfills Gap, were held Saturday, May 26, 2001, in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church cemetery near Cranfills Gap, the Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Tergerson died early Thursday morning, May 24, 2001, in a Waco Hospital. She was born Aug. 14, 1936, in Scranton, Pa., and was raised and educated in that area. On Jan. 2, 1955, she was united in marriage to Leland E. Tergerson at Parks Air Force Base in California. She and her husband lived in various parts of the country while he served in the Air Force. She lived in Cranfills Gap for several years, and had worked as a cook at the Senior Citizens Center in Meridian for over 10 years. She was a Baptist, and a member of the Order of the eastern Star. Tergerson was preceded in death by her husband on March 5, 1998. She is survived by a daughter, Tina and husband Kenneth Stanford of Waco; sons Erik Tergerson, Justin Tergerson, and Aaron Tergerson, all of Cranfills gap, and Terry and wife Gail Tergerson of West; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Toni Mundstock of North Syracuse, N.Y.; two brothers, Joseph Dzencelowcz of Byron, Ga., and John Dzencelowcz of Syracuse, N.Y.’ and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers were Erik, Terry, Justin, and Aaron Tergerson, and Joseph and John Dzencelowcz. Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian was in charge of arrangements.
Pat A. Rhodes
Graveside services were held for Pat A. Barnes Rhodes, 85, of Glen Rose, on May 26, 2001, at Fulton cemetery in Walnut Springs. Pat A Barnes was born on March 21, 1916, in Star, Texas, the daughter of Martin and Mary Etta Barnes. She married
Paul K. Rhodes on Oct. 7, 1939. The couple had one child, Jane Rhodes. During her life she lived in San Antonio, Smithville, and Walnut Springs, as well as Star and Glen Rose. She was the cornerstone of the family and a housewife. Her hobby was spoiling her grandchildren. She will be remembered for being spunky and loving her family. She was affiliated with the Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Jane Geyer of Glen Rose; one brother, A.J. Barnes of Glen Rose; grandchildren, Tammy and Byron Stinson, and Ricky and Tori Geyer of Glen Rose, and Patrick and Amanda Geyer of Rio Vista; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Wade Lee
Funeral services for Wade Lamar Lee, 66, of Cranfills Gap, were held Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton. Lee passed away at his home on Thursday, May 24, 2001. Lee was born Oct. 7, 1934, at Turnersville, the son of Alton Jackson and Ouida Alene Bullard Lee. He attended school in Hamilton. Lee entered the Navy in 1953, serving a year and a half sea duty on the USS Harwood. After his naval service he had many accomplishments in his career. He was a barber in Dallas for several years prior to becoming a stockbroker with Snyder-Burnett-Hickman. He worked as a salesman for Consolidated Freight, and later owned his own trucking company, running hot-shot loads. He was active in the boys’ baseball program in Duncanville, working with the youth. In 1983, he returner to Central Texas, to Cranfills Gap, to do what he loved most - farming and ranching. He drove a truck for Watson Farm and Ranch Supply for a number of years. He managed the B-Tree Cattle Company for three years, and had his own farm and livestock operation. He was currently serving Cranfills Gap as mayor in his second term. Lee is survived by his wife, Sue Lee, of Cranfills Gap; seven children, Gina Thach of Duncanville, Tommy Lee of Terrell, Kerry Lee of Austin, Cheryl McGolffin of Katy, Melissa Lee Carr of Duncanville, Amy Warren of Cranfills Gap, and Robbie Wooten of Stephenville 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Rita Nell Lee of Dallas; and one brother, Kenneth Paul Lee of Waxahachie. Riley Funeral Home of Hamilton was in charge of arrangements.
Anna Beth Rowe
Funeral services were held for Anna Beth Rowe, 47, of Houston, on May 6, 2001, at Mosheim Methodist Church with the Rev. Blankenship officiating. Anna Beth Ficklin was born on June 23, 1953, the daughter of Arthur Evans Ficklin and Trula Colleen Carlson Ficklin, in Meridian. She was a 1971 graduate of Valley Mills High School. She married
Johnnie Shadrick (Ricky) Rowe in 1970. They had two children, Christina Ann Rowe and Amanda Gayle Rowe. She lived in Houston from 1972 to 2001. She worked in outside sales. She contributed to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She will be remembered as a loving, giving lady with a flare for artistic design. Rare are the people who realize that they can receive so much by giving. Mother knew this to be the golden truth. She refused to let her spirit be crushed by this disease. Mother’s love is everlasting and we believe she is now a beautiful angle watching over us. We are blessed to have had her as our mother. Lucky to have known her and have her spirit within us. Always and Forever. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.” Psalm 23.6. Alton Olen Erickson
Funeral services were held for Alton Olen Erickson, 85, of Clifton, on Friday, May 25, 2001, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Glenn Kramer officiating. Erickson was born on April 6, 1916, the son of Edwin Martin Erickson and Mary Josephine Christenson Erickson, on a farm in the Womack community of Bosque County. He passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 in Clifton. He was baptized In May 1916, at Trinity Lutheran Chruch and was confirmed on June 21, 1931, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse. In 1923, his family moved to the Harmony community where he stayed and graduated from school. Erickson rented cotton land from a neighbor and did various jobs. In 1939, he took a job at LeSage Company in Houston. While employed there he held various positions, including warehouse, truck driver, shipping clerk, and checker. In February 1942, Erickson enlisted in the Army Air Corps and received an Honorable Discharge in November 1945. He returned to his job at LeSage Company and, in January, was promoted to warehouse manager. On Jan. 2, 1949, LaSage was sold to the employees and its name changed to Lone Star. During the following years, Lone Star would move Alton and his family to Dallas, in 1959, and back to Houston in 1961. He remained there, until he returned to Dallas in 1969. He retired after 37 years and later moved back to Bosque County. He was married
to Dorothy Lee Balscher, and to this union was born a son, Kim Lee Erickson, and a daughter, JoAnn Erickson. He was married
to Nada Smith. In 1987, he married
Evelyn Orbeck Jackson. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Orbeck Erickson; son, Kim Erickson; daughter, JoAnn Erickson; daughter-in-law, Sandra Erickson; five grandchildren, Kristen Erickson, Kelly Erickson, Jason Rumfola, Joe Rumfola, and Jennifer Rumfola; and one great-grandson, Preston Rumfola. Pallbearers included Oscar Hampe, Clinton Bergman, Ed Brynn, Clarance Conrad, Vernon Swenson, and Eddie Milhouse. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Chruch, Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home, or the American Cancer Society. Interment
was in the Norse cemetery under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
Sherry La Juan Schulze
Memorial services for Sherry La Juan Schulze, 45, of Tomball, were held Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Tomball Bible Church, the Rev. Jack Arrington officiating. Interment
was conducted by the Rev. Doyle Henderson in Rosston cemetery (northwest of Denton) on Wednesday, May 16, 2001. Schulze died Sunday, May 13, in a Houston hospital. She was born Nov. 21, 1955, in Fort Worth, to Jack and Nina (Holland) Henderson. She attended elementary and junior high school in Buda, then graduated as a Honors Student at DeSoto High School in 1974. Following high school graduation, she attended Executive Secretarial School in Dallas. After graduating there, she was employed by the Army-Air Force Exchange Service in Dallas. She later moved to Houston and accepted a position as an executive secretary with Marathon Oil Company, where she met and married
Danny Schulze on March 27, 1987. The couple moved to Indianapolis that same year, where they resided until 1990. They later moved to Findlay, Ohio, where they lived until returning to Houston in 1998. Schulze dedicated her life to serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and her beloved children, whom she home-schooled. She attended Tomball Bible Church where she was active in the ladies’ Bible study and children’s ministries. Her hobbies included decorating, landscaping, gardening, painting, and sewing. She is survived by her husband, Danny Schulze; children Blake, Austin, and Lauren Schulze; parents Jack and Nina Henderson; grandmother Essie Mae Henderson; brothers Randy and wife Barbara Henderson, and Danny Henderson; sister Janice and husband Jerry Wheatley; father-in-law and mother-in-law Harold and Irene Schulze of Mosheim; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Joyce Fay Josey Meglasson
Funeral services were held for Joyce Fay Josey Meglasson, 68, of Meridian, on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at 3 p.m., in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Meglasson was born Dec. 28, 1932, in Iredell, the daughter of the late Jessie Otto and Burnice Hodge Josey. She passed away on Friday, May 11, 2001, in Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton after an extended illness. She moved to Clifton at an early age and was raised there and finished school there. She was a graduate of the Goodall-Witcher School of Nursing and worked as a licensed vocational nurse in Clifton and Houston for several years. She had been a resident of Meridian since 1993 after moving there from Trinity. She loved to paint and do arts and crafts. She was affiliated with the Baptist Church. Pallbearers include Tom Meglasson II, Thomas Meglasson, Gary Josey, James Puckett, Tommy Compton, and Robert Josey. Survivors include a daughter, Darlena Powell of Meridian; a son, Tom Meglasson II and wife, Theresa of Colleyville; four grandchildren, Tonya Puckett and husband, James, Shannon Meglasson, Christle Meglasson, and Thomas Meglasson III; one great-grandchild, Angel Puckett; one brother, Gary Josey and wife, Shirley, of Waco; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Interment
was in Clifton cemetery under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian.
