Erik A. Tergerson
Graveside services were held for Erik A. Tergerson, 43, of Cranfills Gap, on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m., at St. Olaf Lutheran cemetery near Cranfills Gap with the Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Born on Sept. 27, 1957, in Galveston, the son of the late Leland E. and Regina Ann Dzenclowcz Tergerson, Erik Tergerson died on Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at his residence. He had lived in various parts of the country before moving to Cranfills Gap, where he completed school. He was presently working as a cook for Sonic Drive-In in Clifton. He was a Baptist. Survivors include three daughters, Amanda of New York, and Crystal and Danille, both of Elm Mott; two sons, Sean and Jeremy, both of Waco; one sister, Tina Stanford of Waco; three brothers, Terry Tergerson of West, Justin Tergerson of Cranfills Gap, and Aaron Tergerson of North Carolina; one grandson, Donovan of New York; and a number of other relatives and friends. Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian was in charge of arrangements.

Wayne D. (Pinky) Canuteson
Funeral services for Wayne D. (Pinky) Canuteson, 71, of Clifton, were held Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Norse, the Rev. Beverly Blackman and the Rev. Pat Dietrich officiating. Burial followed in the Old Rock Church cemetery in Norse. Canuteson died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. He was born Sept. 17, 1930, in Clifton. “Pinky” was an outstanding Clifton Cub halfback in 1947-48, and was recognized in May 2000 as one of the top players in the history of Central Texas high school football. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1949. In 1958, he received a bachelor’s degree in business from North Texas State University in Denton. After graduation, he worked in various accounting positions for 30 years at Dallas Power and Light Company. He lived in Dallas for many years prior to his retirement to Clifton. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his family. Canuteson was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Matilda Jermstad Canuteson; brothers Cecil and Will Canuteson; and sister Faye Norman. He is survived by his wife, Mary Canuteson of Dallas; son Kelly Canuteson of Keller; daughter and son-in-law Kendal and Patrick Welsh of Richardson; grandchildren Leah Mallory Welsh and Patrick Benjamin Welsh of Richardson; and sister Castelle Cagle of Dennison. He also left behind a number of friends who will miss him dearly. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Pastor Pat Dietrich and the entire staff of Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home for the compassionate care and attention given to “Pinky” over the past 2½ years. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Roberson
Funeral services for Bobby G. Roberson, 67, of Paris, Ark., were held Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at First Baptist Church in Paris. Roberson passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University with a bachelor’s degree in forestry. He was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paris where he was an active deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin Lee and Lilliand Pool Roberson, and sister, Sissy Walk. Survivors include his wife, Janis Shepherd Roberson; daughter and son-in-law, Rene and T.J. Cauthron of Paris; sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Cindra Roberson of Russellville, Ark., and Reese and Nora Roberson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Jonathan Austin and Aimee McKnight of Paris, Kyle Rhett and Brayli Roberson of Russellville; sister, Belle Bamett of Valley Mills; brothers, Doyle Roberson of Phoenix, and Jack Roberson of Whitney. Pallbearers include Bently Allen, Tim Beers, Buddy Boyd, Max Crowe, Gene Davis, Madin Davis, Bob Ehren, and Dr. Nick Jewell. Honorary pallbearers were the Adult Sunday School Class. Interment icon was at Oakwood cemetery in Paris, Ark.

Georgia Hughes Denker
Graveside services were held for Georgia Hughes Denker, 82, on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at 3 p.m., by Father Steve Hart of Our Lady of the Lake Episcopal Church. She passed away on Sept. 17, 2001, at 11:05 a.m. “Skippy” Denker lived 82 years, happily and successfully. Her family holds her memory as one of great strength, exceptional courage in the face of physical adversity, and monumental, generous good humor. She was the widow of Frank A. Denker, her devoted and loving husband of 23 years. One of Skippy’s favorite bits of prose came from the pen of Storm Jameson: “Happiness comes of the capacity to feel deeply, to enjoy simply, to think freely, to risk life, to be needed.” Our mother did, she was, and will forever be. Those members of Denker’s family celebrating her life and memory are her son, Steven J. Fromholz, his wife, Janey, their daughters, Darcy and Felicity of Austin; daughter, Angela Blair and son, Russell Smith and his wife, Annette, of Clifton; sister Claire Withers, her daughter, Wendy and son-in-law, Carl (Butch) McCaslin, their sons, Colin and Ben of Dallas; grandson, J.T. Fromholz, and his mother, Jody McCutchin of Dallas; daughter Mary Hilliard and sons, Brad and Todd of Austin; daughter Ann Webster, her husband, Tom, their children, Nancy Manchester, Julia Knoff, and Will Webster, all of California; and grandchildren, Molly Chadwick and Gretchen Devinsky, daughter of son, Fred Denker, deceased. Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Harlen Allen Reesing
Memorial services were held in Cranfills Gap and California for Harlen Allen Reesing, 80, of California, on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001. A memorial service, conducted by Dr. Hillary Chrisley was held at the Westchester Church in California. Simultaneously, a memorial service was held at First Baptist Church in Cranfills Gap, led by Bro. Bill Schibler, the family and friends, using the same order of service, Scripture readings, and hymns. This service was comforting to the family members who had planned to go to Los Angeles, but whose flight plans were cancelled by the horrible national disaster in New York on Sept. 11, 2001. Reesing was born in Cranfills Gap on Dec. 11, 1920, to Otto and Elma (Grimland) Reesing, the oldest of four children. He passed away on Sept. 8, 2001, at Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital after a short illness. He grew up working in the family grocery store, invovled in many school activities, and was an outstanding student. After graduating from high school, he attened John Tarleton College before entering Texas A&M; University, where he was a proud member of the Aggie Band. He was in the first class of the new department of Aeronautical Engineering at A&M; and received his degree with honors in 1942. He spent 40-plus years with Douglas Aircraft in California and was the Director of Safety and Reliability Enginnering before retiring. Harlan Reesing and Grace Fort was classmates in high school They married in Inglewood Methodist Church in California in 1943, and had lived in the Westchester area of Los Angeles since 1949. They were the proud parents of a daughter, Judy Ann, and a son, John Allen. They were longtime members of Westchester United Methodist Church, and he held numerous offices from Sunday School Superintendent to District Young Adult Leader. Most recently, he loved playing in the Wesleyan Hand Bell Choir there. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Grace; daughter, Judy Eisel of Los Angeles; son, John and daughter in-law, Terry, and granddaughter, Kristina of Spokane, Wash.; brother John W. Reesing and wife, Hallie Jo of Austin; sister Evelyn Smith of Cranfills Gap; sister, Martha and husband, Jack Morgan of Dallas; sister-in-law Norinne Fort Gillespie of Clifton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ora Lee Fields
Funeral services were held for Ora Lee Fields, 88, of Clifton, on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2001, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Clifton, with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Ora Lee Meadors was born Feb. 19, 1913, to Joel Johnson and Sara Elizabeth Acrey Meadors, in Erath County. She passed away on Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, in Clifton. She was one of 12 children born to Joel and Sara Meadors. Her early schooling was in Erath County at the Oak Dale and Duffo schools. When she was about 12 years old, her family moved to Bosque County where she attended Live Oak School. This is where she became acquainted with her future husband. On Oct. 9, 1929, she married Clarence Alfred Fields, Sr., in Meridian. At this time, they acquired the family farm, which had been settled by Clarence’s paternal grandfather, “Squire” Fields, an immigrant from England, located in the Norse community. Two children were born to this marriage, Doris Faye and Clarence, Jr. In early adulthood, she was baptized into the Christian faith. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cranfills Gap. At the time of her death she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clifton. In addition to farming and ranching with her husband, Fields was employed at Walls Industries, Inc., for a number of years. In 1971, after 42 years on the farm, Ora and her husband retired and moved to Clifton. On Oct. 7, 1979, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family and friends. For a number of years after retirement, she continued to sew for the public. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening, and fishing. She also loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great pride in them. She enjoyed helping others. Ora was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In the summer of 1997, due to failing health, she entered the Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility where she spent her last years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Adolphus Meadors, Cecil Meadors, and Luther James Meadors; four sisters, Nora Lee McDougal, Mary Pearl Meyer, Ruthie Maire Meadors, and Dorothy Louise Rueter; and grandson, Jimmy Dean Kleine, who died in infancy. Survivors include her daughter, Doris Faye Kleine and husband, Erwin of Clifton; son, Clarence Fields, Jr. and wife, Carol of Clifton; sisters, Ola Mae (Frankie) Reinhardt of Clifton, Sara Elizabeth (Johnnie) Krempin of Seminole, Edna Faye Krueger of Clifton, and Laura Birtie Giebler of Crawford; three grandchildren, Timmy Kleine and wife, Tricia of Clifton, Dana Chastain and husband, Chris, of Plano, and Denise Wise and husband, Jeff of Plano; and four great-grandchildren, Katie Kleine, Zachary and Emily Chastain, and Brayden Wise; close family friend Kenneth Lowrance; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other numerous relatives. Pallbearers included Gene Fields, John Fields, Johnny Giebler, Gus Krueger, Jr., James McMinn, and Jerry Meyer. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or to Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility. Interment icon was in Clifton cemetery under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

Beatrice C. Paulson
Funeral services for Beatrice C. Paulson, 71, of Robinson, were held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Dr. Randy Hughes officiating. Paulson died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in Waco. She was born Jan. 28, 1930, in Clovis, N.M., the daughter of Clabe and Rosie (Bradley) Goains. She graduated from Valley Mills High School. She married Jesse G. Paulson in July 1946, in Meridian. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1992. Paulson was a former member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Waco. A family member said she loved to sew and was a great seamstress. She also liked to cook, and work in her rose garden. She really loved her grandchildren, and she will be greatly missed, said the family member. She is survived by her son, Billy Paulson of Chandler; two daughters, Gwen Paulson of Robinson and Regena Gray of Chandler; a brother, J.C. Goains of Robinson; two sisters, Doris Money of Robinson and Minnie Guinn of Meridian; and three grandchildren, Brandon, Lacy, and Heather Paulson, all of Robinson. Honorary pallbearers included Dean Engel, Darrell Goains, Brandon Paulson, Gary Moore, Johnny Taylor, Bill Fendrick, and J.C. Goains. Pecan Grove Funeral Home, Waco, was in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn Ann Sather Tucker
Funeral services were held for Kathryn Ann Sather Tucker, 67, of Clifton on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at 1 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Clifton with Dr. Jerry Smith, pastor, officiating. Kathryn Ann Sather was born Nov. 1, 1934, in Clifton, the daughter of Harold and Clarice Sorenson Sather. She passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at her residence in Clifton, after a five-year battle with cancer. She grew up in the Norse area and attended Cranfills Gap school. After her graduation in 1953, she married Charles R. Tucker on July 21, 1953, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse. The couple had two sons. They lived in Clifton, El Paso, Goliad, Victoria, Temple, Hewitt, and returned to Clifton in 1989, to retire. She received an LVN degree from Goodall-Witcher Nursing School and was involved in nursing most of her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Clifton. She loved gardening and enjoyed working with her hand in sewing projects and handwork. During the past few years, she continued to work in her extensive flower gardens as long as her health would allow. She was a caregiver at heart and enjoyed helping others who were in need. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Randy. Survivors include her husband, Charles Tucker of Clifton; a son, Charles Tucker Jr. of Grapevine; four grandsons, Michael Jonathan, Stephen and Justin Tucker of Grapevine; two granddaughters, Ashley and Sasha Tucker of Victoria; one brother, Jerry Sather of Clifton; and a host of nieces and nephews. Interment icon was in Norse cemetery under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

Minnie Lee Goodrich
Funeral services were held for Minnie Lee Goodrich, 84, of Whitney, on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro. A graveside service is to be held Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at 1 p.m., in Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio. Minnie Lee Burleson was born on Jan. 2, 1917, in Big Spring, the daughter of Nathaniel Marion and Minnie Lee Grubaugh Burleson. She passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, in Whitney. Both of her parents passed away in early 1917. At the tender age of four months, she was taken into the home of her mother’s brother, Eugene Macome (Simpson) Grubaugh and his wife, Susan Emelie (Emma) Domstad Grubaugh, who gave her a kind and loving home until her maturity. She married J.D. Hall and this couple became parents to three children; Jerry Donald Hall, Delores Jeanette Hall, and Billie Sue Hall. She subsequently married Army Sergeant First Class Jay W. Goodrich in 1946. During her working years, she drove an intercity mail truck for four years between Midland and Florey. She had worked at a U.S. Post Office in New Jersey and later at a Post Office in Big Spring, for three years. While in Big Spring, she met and married SFC Goodrich. His military career carried them to duty in sever of the United States, and to duty stations in Japan and in Europe. Upon the death of SFC Goodrich, she moved to Santa Maria, Calif., and enrolled in college on the G.I. Bill. She graduated with a degree in Social Studies and was employed for the following 20 years by the Santa Barbara County Home Health Service, and as a volunteer for the Santa Maria Council for the Blind. She came to Whitney in 1989, and served as a volunteer for the Lake Whitney Medical Center for 10 years before retiring due to ill health. In recent days, she had expressed appreciation for all of the loving letters, cards, and phone calls she received from the close friends in California across the decades. She also expressed a thank you to her wonderful niece, Dorothy Burleson Bond, and her husband, Hollis, of Mansfield, for all of the TLC this couple has given her during her illness. And to Linda Miller, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ray of Clifton, and Mr. and Mrs. George Kurpala of Hamilton, for their close friendship and support during the years. She has shown great gratitude to Marshall Thorps, a neighbor, who provided transportation for her to obtain medical treatment on so many occasions. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents; her husband, Jay Goodrich; a daughter, Delores Jeanette Hall Edwards; seven brothers; three sisters; five sisters-in-law; two nieces; two nephews; and two great-grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Jerry Hall of Grand Junction, Colo.; a daughter, Billie Sue Bakely of Vincentown, N.J.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Texas Commission for the Blind, 801 Austin Ave., Suite 710, Austin, Texas 76701. Interment icon was in Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
