Joseph Fredrick Mueller
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, for Joseph Fredrick Mueller, 87, of Clifton. Services were held at Zion United Church at Womack with Dr. Charles Rice, pastor, officiating. Joseph Mueller was born to Adolph and Anna Braune Mueller on Feb. 17, 1914, in the Fairview Community of Bosque County. He passed away on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, in Clifton. On Jan. 13, 1935, Mueller was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. Fred Megbroff Pator at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church near Clifton. On Oct. 30, 1937, Mueller and Elsie Ida Hampe were united in marriage at St. John Evangelical and Reformed Church in the Bismarck Community near Valley Mills. To this union, three children were born. During his life, Mueller was a farmer, carpenter, molder man at Wilson Building Materials, and a clerk at Sormrude’s Grocery. His favorite pastimes were loving his family and working with wood in all forms. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, on May 22, 1998; his parents, and his brother, Herbert Mueller. Survivors include his sister, Vannie Spenrath of Clifton; daughter, Jo Ann Brannan and husband, Gene, of Temple; son, Clarence Mueller and wife, Connie, of Round Rock; son Larry Mueller of Bakersfield, Calif.; six grandchildren, Terry Rester and wife, Pam, of Stroudsburg, Pa.; Trever Rester and wife, Michelle of Rockwall; Cindy Jarrard and husband, Lee, of Walburg; Chad Mueller of Wylie; Lane Mueller of Colorado; and Blake Mueller of Los Angeles, Calif.; and five great-grandchildren, Colton and Caleb Jerrard of Walburg, and Thomas, David, and Amy Rester of Rockwall. Pallbearers were Terry and Trever Rester, Cindy Jarrard, and Chad, Lane, and Blake Mueller. Memorials may be made to Zion United Church at Womack or to the Evangelical Children’s Home. Interment
was in Clifton cemetery under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
William George (Dub) King
Funeral services for William George (Dub) King, 85, of Fort Worth and formerly of Waco, were held Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at First United Methodist Church, Waco, the Rev. Steve Ramsdell officiating. Internment followed at Waco Memorial Park. King died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, in Fort Worth. King was born Nov. 26, 1916, in Nacogdoches County, to Henry Clifford and Ethel Louise Stokes King. He graduated from Polytechnic High School, and attended Texas Wesleyan University. He married
Helen Christine Smith on July 8, 1940. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army. King was a sportswriter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then became sports information director for Texas A&M; University and later at Baylor University. King also worked in promotions with the Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo for 32 years, while also working with the Methodist Children’s Home for 15 years. He also worked with the March of Dimes, and with various shopping centers and banks. During the last two decades, he promoted the annual Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association convention in Waco. King is survived by his wife, Christine King, of Fort Worth; daughter Karen and husband Kenneth Barr of Fort Worth; son Andy King of Austin; granddaughter Katherine King Barr; sisters Jerry McWhorter and Ruth Evans, both of Fort Worth; and a brother, Clifford King of Fort Worth. Connally Compton Funeral Home in Waco was in charge of arrangements.
Elsie Lee Parks Leonard
Funeral services were held for Elsie Lee Parks Leonard, 74, of Clifton, on Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at 4:30 p.m., at Clifton Church of Christ, with minister Gary Blakeney officiating. Elsie and her twin brother, Elzie, were born to M.E. Parks and Nora Baker Parks in Fairy, on Feb. 6, 1927. Elsie Parks Leonard passed away on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002. On March 6, 1954, she married
J.T. Leonard in the home of her twin brother in Fort Worth. To this union, one daughter, Melody, was born. Elsie and J.T. owned a farm and ranch near Fairy and lived there 42 years. They moved to Clifton in 1996. J.T. passed away on Aug. 13, 1999. She was a member of Clifton Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by three sisters. Survivors include her daughter, Melody and husband, Curt Haley of Clifton; grandsons Davin of College Station and Drew of Stephenville; a sister, Cleyone Miller of Fort Worth, a brother, Audie Parks and wife, Ruth, of Stephenville; and twin brother, Elzie Parks and wife, Florene, of Fort Worth, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial may be made to Clifton Church of Christ building fund. Interment
was in Clifton Memorial Park under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
Lena Mae Cook
Graveside services were held for Lena Mae Cook, 78, of Morgan, on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at 1 p.m., at Rosemound cemetery in Waco, with the Rev. Walker of Cedar Creek Baptist Church officiating. Lena Mae Heine was born on March 1, 1923, in China Spring, the daughter of Will and Teresa Silaff Heine. She passed away on Jan. 15, 2002, at her home. She was a seamstress and a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include her sister, Louise Clay of Morgan, and several nieces and nephews.
Gordon Elliott Winfield
Funeral services for Gordon Elliott Winfield, 79, of Georgetown and formerly of Granbury, were held Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at The Gabriels Chapel in Georgetown. Services were officiated by Pastor John Selle of Faith Lutheran Church, Georgetown. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Rose Hill cemetery in Blooming Grove. Winfield died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, in Georgetown. He was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Clifton, to Oscar and Marguerite Bradstreet Winfield. He attended Clifton High School, and joined with his classmates to celebrate their 60th class reunion on May 5, 2000. He attended Clifton Junior College from 1940 to 1942, graduating on May 29, 1942. After graduation, he joined the Naval Air Corps, serving as an active pilot during World War II. Winfield married
Melba Page in Dallas on June 5, 1949. He spent his lifetime as a pilot, flying for 40 years for Braniff Airways. He was a member of the Methodist Church throughout his life, and attended The Worship Place in Sun City. He is survived by his wife, Melba Winfield of Georgetown; son Gordon Page and wife Cathryn Winfield of San Antonio; daughter Janis and husband Robert Parks of Liberty Hill; grandchildren Clinton Parks of Brownwood, and Molly Parks of Syracuse, N.Y.; great-grandchildren Karen Parks and Travis Parks of Brownwood; a brother, the Rev. Don Winfield of Dallas; sisters Marguerite Baldwin of Clifton, and Monette Johnson of Hurst; numerous nieces and nephews; plus many dear friends in the Clifton and Lake Granbury areas.
Charles Ray (Charlie) Paris
Funeral services were held for Charles Ray (Charlie) Paris, 62, of Laguna Park, on Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at 4 p.m., in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian, with the Rev. Richard Creech and Rev. Brett MacNelly officiating. Graveside rites were held at Oak Grove cemetery officiated by the Meridian Masonic Lodge. Paris was born July 30, 1939, in Hillsboro, the son of Charles Edward Paris and Ethel M. Brown. He passed away suddenly on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. He moved to Morgan at a young age where he was raised and educated. He served in the U.S. Army and after his discharge, he attended Houston College. On Aug. 10, 1968, he was united in marriage to Theresa Boyd in Cleburne. The couple lived in Houston and moved to Georgetown, where they lived for 17 years, before moving to Laguna Park three years ago. Paris was presently working as office manager for Skinner Transportation, Inc., in Clifton. He was a Baptist, a member of the Meridian Masonic Lodge, and a Shriner. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Paris of Laguna Park; daughter, Tammy LaRae Mennen and husband, Josh, of Georgetown; son, Charles Steven Paris of Sugar Land; grandchildren, Ashlee and Rae-La Mennen of Georgetown; mother, Ethel Doty of Meridian; brothers, Jimmie Paris and wife, Cindy, of Joshua, and Billy Joe Parker and wife, Kay, of Meridian; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Dr. Edwin Goodall
Funeral services for Dr. Edwin Goodall, 81, of Breckenridge, were held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church of Breckenridge. Interment
followed in Breckenridge cemetery. Goodall died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, in Breckenridge. Goodall was born Nov. 3, 1920, ion Eastland. He grew up in Valley Mills, with his mother, Eula Goodall, and two older sisters. He graduated from Trinity University and the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, where he was a member of the Phi Chi Medical Fraternity. After serving two years in the United States Navy during World War II, he began his medical practice in Memphis, Texas, in 1946, with his cousin and mentor, Dr. Otis Goodall. He met Barbara Ann Burney at a Lion’s Club convention in 1950. They married
, and on Nov. 19, 2001, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple made their home in Breckenridge from 1954 to date. Also in 1950, he joined the Lowrey Clinic in Gatesville before establishing his own practice in Breckenridge in 1954, where he served the community he loved until a stroke forced his retirement in 1991. Although he moved to Temple in 1975 after suffering a heart attack, Dr. Goodall always considered Breckenridge his home, and he reestablished his practice there in 1980. In 1976, at the age of 56, he was among the first physicians to become certified by the American Board of Family Practice when family practice was first declared a specialty. He was recertified in 1983. He was the first chairman of the Medicine and Religion Committee of the Texas Medical Association. He was also a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Practice, the Texas Academy of Family Practice, and the Eastland, Stephens, Callahan, Shackelford, and Throckmorton Counties Medical Society, where he held various offices, including the presidency. He was a founder and director of Citizens National Bank in Breckenridge, and served several terms as Chief of Staff of Stephens Memorial Hospital. He established the Villa Haven Nursing Home, and served as its medical director for a number of years. In 1994, he was honored as Breckenridge’s Citizen of the Year. Goodall was a lifelong Presbyterian, and an elder in the First Presbyterian Church. His unselfishness and unfailing compassion for others knew no bounds. His indomitable spirit in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew him, and his example touched so many lives in so many countless ways. He was the light of his family’s and friends’ lives, and will forever brighten their memories. He left this world a better place than he found it. Dr. Goodall is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter Deborah of Dallas; son Greg, Jan, and Travor of Breckenridge; sister Josephine Welch of Breckenridge; nieces Jo Claire Welch of Houston, Nancy Welch Harrison of Fort Worth, and Mary Welch Rose of Houston; nephew Gene and wife Beverly Ross of Austin; many cherished cousins; and the many friends and patients he so loved. Pallbearers were Van Goodall, Gene Ross, Clint Coneway, Rob Arnot, Kevin King, and Greg Pitzer. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Melton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Lillian Ruth McCarty
Funeral services were held for Lillian Ruth McCarty, 70, of Walnut Springs, on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, in Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian, with the Rev. Brett MacNelly officiating. Lillian Ruth Gilbreath was born April 14, 1931, in Eulogy, the daughter of the late Ray and Grace Gibbs Gilbreath. She passed away on Sunday morning, Jan. 6, 2002, at her residence. She grew up in Eulogy and later moved to Walnut Springs, where she was educated. On Jan. 10, 1949, she was united in marriage to jay McCarty in Cleburne. He passed away on May 2, 1992. McCarty had lived in Walnut Springs most of her life, and she was a member of the Walnut Springs Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Survivors include her sons, Jay Eddie McCarty and wife, Vicki, of Bastrop; Mac McCarty of Rule; Ted McCarty and wife, Shirley, of Clifton; Mike McCarty and wife, Sheryl, of Walnut Springs; and Jeff McCarty of Walnut Springs; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Rich of Cleburne, and May Ann Gilbreath of Glen Rose; brother, Joe Bob Gilbreath of Glen Rose; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Evelyn Hubbard
Memorial services are being held for Evelyn Hubbard, 97, of Clifton, on Friday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m., in Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home with Pastor Pat Dietrich officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., at Oakwood cemetery, Waco. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Connally Compton Funeral Directors, Waco. Evelyn Hubbard had a Bachelor and Master’s degree from Baylor University. She was a teacher in public elementary, junior high, and high schools, including Waco North, East Junior High, and Waco High School, for 46 years. She took a leave during World War II to work in the McGregor Bluebonnet Ordinance Plant in support of her nephews in the Army and Navy. Survivors include E.C. (Pat) Murphy and wife, Jackie, of Little Rock, Ark.; great-nephew Dr. Terry W. Murphy and wife, Karen, and son, Cason, formerly of Clifton, now residing in Prescott, Ariz.; great-nephew Kevin S. Murphy, and wife, Linda, and sons, Connor and Andrew, all of Fayetteville, Ark.; great-niece Shannon Murphy and daughter, Olivia, and son, Evan, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; niece-in-law Jean Hubbard and daughters, Peggy and Valerie, of Loveland, Colo.; and very special friends, Mrs. Cecil Bekkelund of Clifton, and Ms. Priscilla Harrier of Fort Worth.
