Florence Nell Oden Knudson
Funeral services for Florence Nell Oden Knudson, 78, of Clifton, were held Friday, July 19, 2002, in Lawson Funeral Home Chapel, Meridian, the Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Entombment was in Greenwood Mausoleum in Fort Worth. Knudson died Monday, July 15, 2002, in a Clifton hospital. She was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Tyler, a daughter of the late Lonnie Daniel and Frances Effie Kay Boynton. She finished school in Winona, and worked there in her father’s general store for many years. She married Israel Claude Oden in 1942, and he preceded her in death in 1976. She was a former resident of Glen Rose from 1973 through 1979, when she married Wendell Lee (Pete) Knudson and moved to Cranfills Gap to live on their farm. In 1993, she moved into Clifton. Her husband preceded her in death in 2001. Knudson was a retired store clerk, a former member of Glen Rose Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap. She is survived by a son, Charles Oden of Alvarado; daughters Toni Lee Jackson of Rainbow and Tina Marie Hamby of Walnut Springs; two sisters; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, was in charge of arrangements.

Jacque (Dittrich)Stanford
Funeral services for Jacque (Dittrich) Stanford, 91, of Hamilton, were held Friday, July 19, 2002, at First Baptist Church of Cranfills Gap, the Rev. Russell Nebhut of St. John’s Lutheran in Hamilton officiating. Interment icon followed in Cranfills Gap cemetery. Stanford died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Hamilton Healthcare Center. She was born Feb. 2, 1911, in Hamilton County, to Hugo and Martha Ellen (Votaw) Dittrich. She graduated from Mountain View School in 1927. On Feb. 2, 1929, she married Hiram Stanford. The couple had three children. She was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County. A homemaker, she enjoyed playing dominoes. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Cranfills Gap. At the time of her death, she was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, near Jonesboro. Stanford is preceded in death by her husband; an infant son; a daughter, Ellen Mavis New; and a son, Rudy Valentine Stanford. Pallbearers were Clint Crosby Jr., James Thompson, Brock Beezley, John tabors, David New, and Keith New. She is survived by a brother, Ovie Dittrich of Jonesboro; two sisters, Vondal Carruthers of Granbury, and Hulene Bell of Beaumont; three grandchildren, David New of Cranfills Gap, Keith New of Plano, and Barbara Manzani of Hamilton; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Douglas Jerome Johnson
Funeral services were held for Douglas Jerome Johnson, 70, of Lubbock, on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Kaskela officiating. Johnson was born on Dec. 15, 1931, in Clifton, to the late Henry and Olga Johnson. He passed away on July 13, 2002 in Lubbock. He graduated from New Deal High School in 1949. On July 2, 1952, he married Mary Duke in Clovis, N.M. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Commendation Ribbon with metal pendant, Korean Service Medal with two bronze starts, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was the owner and operator of a flooring and counter-top business. He was member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Tucker. Survivors include his wife, Mary Johnson of Lubbock; a daughter, Janet McCalla of Greenville; a son, Bobby Johnson of Lubbock; a brother, Kenneth Johnson of Coleman, Okla.; and four grandsons. The family suggests memorials to the Lupus Foundation of the American Lung Association. Interment icon was in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Johnnie (J.C.) Charles Linberg
Memorial services were held for Johnnie (J.C.) Charles Linberg, 74, of Clifton, on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at 1 p.m., at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse. Linberg was born on Feb. 1, 1928, in Clifton, to John Charles and Lillie Robin Linberg. He passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2002, in Clifton. He graduated from Clifton High School and attended Clifton College and Southern Methodist University. On March 22, 1962, he married Carol Ann Kidd. The couple had one child, Johnnie Linberg, Jr. During his life, he lived in Clifton and in Austin. Linberg was a geologist, business owner, rancher, and life-long fisherman. His hobbies included fishing and “fixing things.” He was a devoted father, husband, and grandfather. After retiring, he and his wife, Carol, traveled extensively until her death in 1994. He grew up fishing the Bosque River and was an avid fisherman all his life. This was a life-long love of his, and, in Nancy Dean, he found a companion who enjoyed this hobby and love with him until his death. He was a very special person who touched everyone around him. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the Lutheran faith, Scottish Rite Freemasonry, 320 Mason, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1949. Survivors include his son, Johnnie Linberg, Jr., of Houston, and two grandchildren.

Walter A. Leigon
A memorial service for Walter A. Leigon, age 83, was held Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Earthman Bellaire Chapel, the Rev. Dan Danheim and the Rev. J. W. (Bill) Turner officiating. Interment icon was at Memorial Oaks cemetery in Houston. Leigon passed away Saturday, June 29, 2002, at a Houston hospital. Leigon was born Nov. 27, 1918, at Morgan, the son of Samuel Lindsay (Pat) Minnie May Newton Leigon. He served his country during World War II in the European Theater of Operations, and retired at the end of the war as a captain. He married Lena Mae Windham, daughter of William W. Lena Parks Windham, on March 19, 1943, at Clifton. He retired from Exxon Company USA (formerly Humble Oil and Refining Co.) in 1978, after 30 years with that company. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Perry, Edward, Elbert, and S. L. Leigon; and three sisters: Lucy Leigon, Amy Leigon Lane, and Jeanne Leigon Johnston. Leigon is survived by his wife of 59 years; two sons: Larry Alan Leigon of Novato, Cal., and William Lindsay wife Denae Leigon of Napa, Cal.; four grandchildren: Kristan Denae Leigon, Sarah Ashley Leigon, Justin Lindsay Leigon, and Christopher Glenn Brannigan Leigon; two sisters: Willie May Leigon Taylor of Midland, and Helen Leigon Parker of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to Bellaire United Methodist Church School for Little Children, 4417 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, TX 77401, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements were under the direction of Earthman Funeral Home.

Mary Frances Ralph
Funeral services were held for Mary Frances Ralph, 90, of Clifton, at 10 a.m., July 11, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church in Clifton with the Rev. Terri Matthews officiating. Mary Frances Spikes was born on Aug. 16, 1911, in Corsicana, to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Spikes. She passed away on July 9, 2002, at Goodall-Witcher Hospital. She attended Corsicana High School. On Dec. 10, 1932, she married T.H. Ralph in Oklahoma. The couple had two children. They lived in Corsicana, Groesbeck, and Hillsboro before moving to Clifton in 1946. Before she retired, she worked for Gearench Manufacturing in Clifton. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies’ Auxilary, the Bosque Conservatory, and served as an elder in First Presbyterian Church in Clifton. She enjoyed painting, knitting, hunting, bridge, and she loved being around friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 24, 2000, and a son, Capt. Thomas H. Ralph on May 17, 1968, in Vietnam. Survivors include a son, Sam and wife, Pat Ralph of El Campo; grandchildren, Kathy Sweeney of Ft. Benning, Ga., Kelly Ralph of Texas A&M; University, Laura Wingfield of New Braunfels, Andy Ralph of Sugarland; great-grandchildren, Sam Taylor of New Braunfels, Addie and Tom Ralph of Sugarland; sister, Evelyn Hall of Georgetown; and extended family Jean and Walt Lewis of Clifton, Len Lewis of Dallas, and Elizabeth Lewis of Austin. Pallbearers were Marcus Jermstad, Bobby Coffman, Larry Graf, Pat Stewart, T.F. Crawford, and Walt Lewis.

Thomas Joseph (Joe) Paulson
Funeral services for Thomas Joseph (Joe) Paulson, 83, of Clifton, are being held Friday, July 12, 2002, at 10 a.m., in First Presbyterian Church in Clifton, with the Rev. Terri Matthews officiating. Paulson was born on Dec. 22, 1918, in Brownwood, the son of Thomas Lafette Paulson and Emma Jane Harris. He passed away on July 9, 2002, in Waco. Paulson graduated from Brownwood High School in 1936, and from Texas Christian University in 1948. On June 20, 1941, he married Marguerite Eloise Embrey. The couple had two children. Paulson was a Tarrant County resident for 60 years, moving to Clifton in 2000. Before retiring he had a career in sales. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He was a 52-year Master Mason. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marguerite Paulson of Clifton; children, Barbara and Jim Caldwell of Fort Worth, and Tom and Vickie Paulson of Clifton; grandchildren, Jenny and Revin Kocher of Arlington, J.J. Caldwell of Dallas, Joe Paulson and Lori Paulson of Clifton; great-grandchild Max Kocher of Arlington; sisters Tiny Wilson of Granbury and Delia Bleeker of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include Bill Key, Bryan Davis, Ed Grimes, Elden Zimmerman, Clint Bergman, and Jim Cox. Interment icon is in Clifton Memorial Park under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.

Cynthia Ann Tergerson Thompson
Funeral services were held for Cynthia Ann Tergerson Thompson, 49, of Ocala, Fla., at 2 p.m., on July 7, 2002, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap, officiated by the Rev. Terry Adkins. Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Tergerson was born on April 30, 1953, to Don and Nelda Tergerson, in Midland, Texas. She passed away on July 3, 2002, in Ocala, Fla. She graduated from Midland High School in 1971, and is a graduated of Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, with a BA in sociology. On April 14, 1990, she married Dennis Thompson at the Rock Church in Cranfills Gap. After their marriage, the couple lived in Stockdale, before moving to Florida in 1995. She was an exotic animal, horse, and dog breeder. She and her husband are credited with establishing the American Registry for Gypsy Vanner horses and maintain America’s largest breeding herd of the rare horses. Her hobbies include her true love of animals and extensive travel. She was a member of the Lutheran faith. She expressed a true love for animals, people, and life. She shared a wonderful sense of humor with family and friends. She pursued her life’s dreams to the fullest. Survivors include her husband, Dennis Thompson; step-children, Michelle and husband, Michael Hartmann, Lisa and husband, Robert Lerma, and Jennifer Thompson, all of Stockdale, and Tracy and husband, Tony Bishop of Alvin; her parents, Don and Nelda Tergerson of Midland; three siblings, including Debbie and husband, Kenny Baird of Georgetown, Carla and husband, Jay Frazier, of Dallas, and Donny and wife, Jessica Tergerson of Lubbock; four aunts, Charlene Tergerson of Cranfills Gap, Sue Vanderford of Runaway Bay, Mardell Krebs of Waco, and Bell Pinnell of Arizona; two nieces, Kelsi Tergerson of Dallas, and Madison Tergerson of Lubbock; and three nephews, Gannon and Keegan Baird of Georgetown, and Tysten Tergerson of Lubbock, along with many cousins.

Betty Ann Huse
Funeral services were held for Betty Ann Huse, 91, of Cranfills Gap, on Saturday, July 6, 2002, at 2 p.m., in St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Cranfills Gap with the Rev. Terry Atkins and the Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Betty Ann Hall was born Sept. 12, 1910, in Fairy, Hamilton County, the daughter of George Jr. and Laura Hall. She passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2002, in Goodall-Witcher Nursing Home following a long illness. On Dec. 15, 1935, Betty Ann Hall married Ovie Huse. They lived in and around Cranfills Gap, where she was a housewife, active in church, school, and civic groups, while still having a career with the postal service. She retired in April 1977, with over 23 years recognized service. She gained her first post office experience at 15. Both her parents were awarded postmasterships in the Gap. After retirement, she and Ovie enjoyed traveling and having a pretty garden and yard. One of her greatest delights was preparing meals for large groups of family and friends in their home. Her presence out in her yard and the many smiles and waves to people passing by will be truly missed by her family, friends, and acquaintances. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ovie; and three brothers, J.D. Hall, M.H. Hall, and Wesley Hall. Survivors include a daughter, Elaine and husband, Dalton Moore of Cranfills Gap; two sons, O.C. Huse and wife, Linda, of Mineral Wells, and Charles Huse and wife, Pat of Fort Worth; one brother, Melvin Hall of Georgetown, La.; one sister, Imadean Peterson of Waco; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Pallbearers include Terry Moore, Bobby Moore, Jerry Shivers, Steve James, Todd Huse, Steve Tate, and Kent Patterson. Memorials may be given to St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Cranfills Gap. Interment icon was in Boggy cemetery under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
