Eli Chandler Eary
Funeral services were held for Eli Chandler Eary, 69, of Clifton, on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Clifton Funeral Home with the Rev. George Watson of Fundamental Baptist Church officiating. Eary was born on March 20, 1933, in Bear Creek, Hamilton, to Levi Slatton and Addie Davenport Eary. He passed away on Oct. 28, 2002, at Providence Hospital in Waco. He attended school in Jonesboro and grew up mainly in Hamilton. He was married
from Dec. 31, 1951 to Feb. 7, 1996. He lived most of his life in Clifton and was a farmer and rancher. He also worked at Texas Milling Co. and operated the only ice plant in Clifton. On Sept. 23, 1963, he was baptisted at the Bosque River by Grace Memorial Baptist Church. He loved to fish. He was very independent, a loving father and devoted husband, and always quick to lend a hand. His five children were his life. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Delores Eary; his parents, Levi Eary and Addie Eary; sister, Zelpha Harris, and brothers, Russel, Tuney, Johnnie, and Emmett Eary, and grandson Matthew Scott Eary. Pallbearers included Russell Eary, Billy Eary, Clint Williams, Jimmy Williams, Joshua Eary, and Allen Noel. Survivors include children, Barbara and Gordon Wellman of Aquilla, Mary and Jerry Noel of Clifton, George and Carma Eary of Clifton, Danny and Rose Eary of Clifton, Linda and Kenneth Pendergraph of Robinson; brothers and sisters, Barney and wife, Jane Eary, of Clifton, Modean Harrison of Clifton, Betty Crawford of Hillsboro; 14 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Sarah (Nicki) Norton
Funeral services for Sarah (Nicki) Norton, 13, of Burleson and Kopperl, will be held at 10 a.m. this Friday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Rosser Funeral Home Chapel in Cleburne, the Rev. Bill Schibler, the Rev. Russ Weaver, and the Rev. Mark Bushor officiating. Interment
will follow in the Kopperl cemetery. Norton died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, in Fort Worth. She was born Dec. 17, 1988, in Fort Worth, to Mark Edward Norton III and Paula Dawn Johnson Norton. She resided the last two years at Daybreak HCS Home in Burleson, and as a student at Kerr Middle School. Norton was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Kopperl. Norton is survived by her mother, Paula and husband Bob Smith of Cleburne; father, Eddie and wife Shelbie Norton of Cleburne; brother, David Mulligan of Cleburne; sisters, Jessica Norton and Breeanna Norton, both of Cleburne; grandparents Claudia Norton and husband Tolbert Worley of Kopperl; grandmother Patricia Johnson of Fort Worth, grandfather Paul Johnson of Sebring, Fla.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Mark Norton, Jr. Memorials may be made to God’s Squad at Saint Mark United Methodist Church at 1109 W. Henderson St., Cleburne, TX 76033. Jo Ann Meyer
Funeral services were held for Jo Ann Meyer, 59, of Meridian, on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Fergeson officiating. Meyer was born on Jan. 2, 1943, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late George W. and Dorothy Barrett Meyer. She passed away on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in the Meridian Manor after an extended illness. She had lived most of her life in Houston, where she worked as a secretary for Hennessee Home Builders for many years. About 10 years ago, she and her long time companion, Al Hennessee, moved to Meridian. She loved to travel, fish, and enjoyed family and friends. She was affiliated with a Methodist Church in Houston. Survivors include her companion, Al Hennessee of Houston; sister, Kathryn Morgan and husband, Kelley, of Meridian; brother, John Meyer of Wimberly; niece, Beverly White and husband, Doug, of Plano; nephews, Todd Gilman of Houston and Charlie Bradshaw and wife, Kim, of Homer, La., and a number of other relatives and friends. Interment
was in Meridian cemetery under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian.
Wendell Ray Williams
Graveside services were held for Wendell Ray Williams, 51, at Clifton Memorial Park, on Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, with the Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Williams was born on Dec. 7, 1950, in Valley Mills, the son of John W. and Phebe Proctor Williams. He passed away on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. He affiliated with the Baptist church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Phebe Proctor Williams; brothers Frank Williams and Jack Williams; and sisters, Juanita Coleman, Beulah Jerrell, and Ethel Mercer. Survivors include his brothers, Larry Williams and Freddie Williams of Clifton; and sisters, Linda Casey of Weatherford, and June Carithers of Dublin.
Dan Thomas Seward
Funeral Services will be held for Dan Thomas Seward, 77, loving husband, father, and grandfather, of Clifton on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at First United Methodist Church of Clifton with Dr. Tom Beaty, Rev. Cleon Flanagan, and Dr. Charles Rice officiating. Internment will follow at Turnersville cemetery in Turnersville, Texas. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clifton Funeral Home, Clifton, Texas. Seward was born July 13, 1925, in Gatesville to James Thomas Wiley Seward and Omo Anetia Mohler. He passed away on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002. Seward was educated in the Gatesville School District until 1941, then moved to Turnersville, and graduated from Turnersville High School in January 1944. He served in the United States Navy from March 1944 to October 1946 aboard the USS Walke. On June 4, 1947, he married
Mary Ann Rowe of Turnersville. He attended Clifton Junior College from 1947 to 1949 and graduated from Baylor University in 1962 with a Masters degree. After college, Seward worked at the Waco Boy’s Club as Athletic Director from 1950 to 1952 and as Exectutive Director from 1952 to 1979. From 1980 to 1986, Seward was the manager of the Great American Chocolate Chip Co. in Waco. He retired in 1987. In 1995, Dan and Mary moved from Waco to Clifton where they are members of First United Methodist Church. Seward is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Seward; daughters, Virginia and husband, Charlie Baker II of Frankston, Texas, Vanessa and husband, Johnny Barrett of Sugar Land, Texas; granddaughters, Dannette and husband, Scott Boyd of Denver, Colorado, Shannon and husband, Heath Daniel of Maypearl, Texas, and Katlin Barrett of Sugar Land; grandson, Jeremy and wife, Grace Daniel of Maypearl, Jammie Trujillo and Monica Stock of Richmond, Texas; sister, Margie Aliene Shaw of Ruston, Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edna Earle Roquemore Spitzer
Edna Earle Spitzer, 92, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in Georgetown, Texas. She was born in Erath County on April 11, 1910, to O.B. and Artie Roquemore. She grew up in Meridian and graduated from Meridian High School and North Texas State Teacher’s College in Denton. Following her marriage to Walter G. Spitzer of Meridian, she was an elementary teachers in Meridian, Gatesville, and Aruba, N.W.I., where the Spitzers resided for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, and two brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Mary B. Henderson of Austin; two sons, W. Kyle Spitzer of Peoria, Ill., and Artie J. Spitzer of Windermere, Fla., and six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Ruth Chastain
Graveside funeral services for Ruth Chastain, 85, of Valley Mills, were held Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Rosemound cemetery in Waco, the Rev. Pat Cummings officiating. Chastain died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in a Clifton hospital. She was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Abilene. She moved to the Valley Mills area in 1992. She loved to visit with friends and family, and was known to all as “Granny Ruth.” Survivors include a daughter, Ruth and husband Dewey Hyde of Valley Mills; three grandchildren, Stephney Gaidusek, Curtis Hyde, and Shelly Hyde; and five great-grandchildren, Justin, Westin, Magain, Ragain, and Amanda. Foss Funeral Home, Valley Mills, was in charge of arrangements.
Grace McNutt
Funeral services for Grace McNutt, 88, of Denton and formerly of Valley Mills, were held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2002, at First Baptist Church of Valley Mills, the Rev. W.R. Parmer officiating. Interment
followed in Valley Mills cemetery. McNutt died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in a Denton hospital. She was born March 28, 1914, in DeLeon, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Kee) Smith. She married
James McNutt on Dec. 20, 1940, in DeLeon. He preceded her in death in 1978. McNutt was a member of First Baptist Church in Valley Mills, where she served as church clerk and also acted as chairman of the hospitality committee for many years. She also had worked for Valley Mills First National Bank for over 30 years. In addition, the McNutts owned McNutt Jewelry in Valley Mills for 27 years. She was described as a gracious, loving, kind spirit who will be deeply missed by those who knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Prins of Aubrey, and Marcia McNutt of Lewisville; two granddaughters, Robin Lewis and Leigh Ann Prins; one great-grandson, Luke Daniel Lewis; and several nieces and nephews. Milton Clark Bonds
Funeral services were held for Milton Clark Bonds, 80, of Artesia, N.M., on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at the Rutledge-Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Hico, with the Rev. Dan Newman officiating. Bonds was born on May 22, 1922, in Bosque County. He passed away at his residence in New Mexico on Nov. 3, 2002. On Feb. 12, 1950, Bonds married
Francene Pruitt in Clovis, N.M. The couple had five children. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. His occupation was as an oil field driller. He had lived in Artesia for 43 years. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Wayne Bonds; a daughter, Betty Katherine Willmann; three brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Francene Bonds of Artesia; a daughter, Vivian Elaine Adamson of Artesia; two sons, Randy Milton Bonds of Lubbock, and Gary Allen Bonds of Artesia; two sisters, Lola Margaret Eggen of Clifton, and Mattie Nell Boswell of Laguna Park; a brother, Clarence Wayne Bonds of Laguna Park; and two grandchildren, Nicholas Chase and Natalie Elaine Willmann.
