Burton E. Erickson
Funeral services for Burton E. Erickson, 86, were held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, in Greenwood Chapel. Interment icon followed at Laurel Land Memorial Park. He died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, in Waco. Erickson was born June 10, 1917, in Clifton, to Bernt Ludwick Erickson and Alice Lund Erickson. He moved to Fort Worth in 1938, working for Consolidated Aircraft and Acme Floor Company for many years, then worked for Lennox Industries for 30 years before retiring. Erickson was preceded in death by brothers Leady Emerald Erickson, John Ernest Erickson, Bryan Alroy Erickson, and Alton Verne Erickson; Myrle Palma Larson, Jennie Mae Brown, Velma Allien Erickson, and Velma Deloris Hughes; and wives Dorothy Mae Erickson and Maxine Erickson. Survivors include son Jene K. and wife Linda Erickson of Waco; grandchildren Malinda Nelson and son Brandon Chase Smith, Scott and wife Brenda Erickson and their daughter Emma Mae Smith, all of Waco; Margie Anz of Clifton; and many nieces and nephews. Greenwood Funeral Home, Fort Worth, was in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Coreen Brown
Funeral services were held for Hazel Coreen Brown, 81, of Meridian on Oct. 31, 2003, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian with Rev. Glenn Kramer officiating. Brown was born on Dec. 3, 1921, on the Hanson home place near Cranfills Gap, the daughter of Axel and Clara Hanson. She passed away on Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. She graduated from Cranfills Gap High School in May 1939. Brown was baptised and confirmed in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap. Brown lived most of her life in Meridian. For many years, she worked for various businesses as a sales clerk. She dearly loved her family, relatives, and friends. She loved to write, and for many years, she wrote daily events in her journal. She is preceeded in death by her parents; her husband, James R. Brown, and gradnson Derek Allen Brown. Survivors include a daughter Lynda Herzog and husband, Clyde, of Clifton; and a son, James Larry Brown and wife, Cindy, of Whitney; grandchildren; Matt Herzog and wife, Emily, of Waco and Marla Crawford and husband, Zach, of Corpus Christi; step-grandchildren, Chris Allen of Whitney and Jennifer Kepple of Whitney, and four step-great grandchildren. Pallbears were Joe Rickard, Mervin (Fuzz) Spitzer, Mike St.Clair, J.W. Gunn, Matt Herzog, and Al Herzog. Memorials can be sent to the St. Olaf Rock Church cemetery Fund, 402 Meridian Street, Cranfills Gap, Texas, 76637. Internment was held at the Rock Church cemetery at Cranfills Gap under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home.

Jessie M. Archer
Funeral services for Jessie M. Archer, 80, of Lakeside Village, were held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Lisa Baumgartner officiating. Interment icon was in the Morgan cemetery. Archer died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in Meridian. She was born March 5, 1923, in Meridian a daughter of Albert Jewell and Auda Lois Standbridge Bishop. After completing her high school education, she married Tilley Archer on Jan. 13, 1940, in Meridian. The young couple moved to Dallas, where she worked for Sears, Roebeck and Company in its territorial offices as an executive secretary, as position she held for many years. After her husband retired from his position, they moved to Lakeside Village. She then became employed as the secretary/bookkeeper in the Bosque County School Superintendent’s office, again holding this position for many years until her retirement. She is survived by her husband, Tilley Archer of Lakeside Village; a sister, Donna Rose of Morgan; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Pallbearers were Bud Kimbell, Randy Norton, Kirk Knowles, Humpy Archer, Phil Murphy, and Larry Bishop. She was a member of Kopperl First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made in her name to Kopperl FUMC, Kopperl, TX 76652, or to the Morgan cemetery Association, c/o Pauline Wheeler, Morgan, TX 76671.

Sabrina Arianna McKain
Graveside funeral services for Sabrina Arianna McKain were held Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at the Valley Mills cemetery. McKain, the infant daughter of Josh and Kristina (Soto) McKain, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, in Fort Worth. She was born Sept. 2, 2003, in Waco. She was preceded in death by a brother, Angel McKain. Survivors include her parents, Josh and Kristina McKain of Waco; grandparents Rosie Rich of Waco, Ronnie Soto. Sr. of Gonzales, and Bill and Linda McKain of Valley Mills; step-grandparents Pascval Rodriguez Jr. of Waco, and Madelina Soto of Gonzales; great-grandparents Carolyn Villasana of Madisonville, Lupe Hernandez of Midland, Patricia Hooks of Meridian, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Spence of Valley Mills, and Julia Soto of Gonzales; and godparents Stephanie Raburn of Valley Mills and Vince Rodriguez of Marlin. Foss Funeral Home, Valley Mills, was in charge of arrangements.

Lola Agnes Renslow Hall
Graveside funeral services for Lola Agnes Renslow Hall, 90, of Clifton, were held Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Boggy cemetery, Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Hall died Monday, Oct. 27, in Clifton Care Center. She was born Feb. 11, 1911, in North Plate, Neb., to John and Mary Nobles Renslow. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clifton, and retired as a salesperson for Sears after working many years in Las Vega, Nev. Hall was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Hall, in October 1995, and by her parents, a sister, three brothers, and two brothers-in-law. Survivors include cousins, nieces, many friends, brother-in-law Melvin Hall, sister-in-law Frankie Hall, Lorena Hall, and Imadean Hall Peterson. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Louis Ward
Graveside funeral services for Robert Louis Ward, 76, were held Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at the Smith Bend-Coon Creek cemetery near Laguna Park. Ward died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003. He was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Reynolds, Ind., to Nathan and Alice C. Click Ward. He was a former Lions Club member and a retired estimator. After retirement, he operated the TexPac Company, serving Hill, Bosque, and Johnson counties. Ward loved life, animals, reading, growing roses, and especially loved playing with and telling stories to his grandchildren. He is survived by his ex-wife, Jeanne Ward; four children, Steve E. and wife Pam Ford of Catoosa, Okla., Peggy Ford and husband Stan Jones of Mesquite, Wayne E. and wife Sandra Ford, stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, and Cynthia Ward and husband Michael Boston of Mesquite; 16 grandchildren, Stephanie Ford, Angel Willis, Kristina Ford Lawson, Bobby Ford, Misty Ford Chandler, Chris Pritchett, Stacie Jones, Samuell Jones, Cherisse Fisher, Peggy Mahoney, and Amy Houghtaling; nine great-grandchildren, Alexia, Austin, Branson, Kayle, Hayle, Trinity, Brice, Kinsley Brook, and Dallas; three brothers, Paul ward of Spencer, Ind., Francis Ward of Martinsville, Ind., and Donald Ward of Monticello, Ind.; two sisters, Mary Schlegelmilch of Indianapolis, Ind., and Kathryn Stockdale of Adairsville, Ga.; and 20 nephews and nieces. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James Donald Bearden
Funeral services for James Donald Bearden, 68, of Lorena, were held Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at First Baptist Church of Hewitt, the Rev. Roy Marshall and the Rev. Don Alan Bearden officiating. Interment icon followed at Stanford cemetery on Chapel Road. Bearden died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Providence Hospital in Waco. He was born July 17, 1935, to Frank and Gladys (Lumpkin) Bearden of the Fairview Community. He was baptized at Fairview Baptist Church in August 1948. He attended Fairview Elementary School in Bosque County in a one-room schoolhouse through the seventh grade. While attending Valley Mills High School, he played football, basketball, and baseball. After graduation in 1957, he requested to be drafted into the U.S. Army with his best friend, D.G. Freedman. They attended basic training together at Fort Hood, and were stationed together in Germany from 1957 through 1959. On Oct. 23, 1959, he married Carolyn Sue Golden of Clifton, and enjoyed 44 years of marriage until his death. To that union was born one daughter, Sherri Ladon (Bearden) Hutcheon. He worked for Blackie Jones Construction, C.F. Binner and Sons Contractors, Owens-Illinois Glass, and B&B; Contractors in Waco. In 1977, he founded Bearden Contracting Services, and, in 1990, his company was sold to Mike Barnett. He and his wife Sue continued to operate Bearden Self-Storage until retirement in 1999. They enjoyed traveling together with their granddaughter, Lindsey Hutcheon. His favorite pastimes were to have friends and family over to entertain and cook out on the grill, as well as going to have coffee with all his buddies. He enjoyed watching Dallas Mavericks games with his daughter. He was very active in all her school activities, and, later, in her career. The couple enjoyed many activities in life with their daughter, her husband Jeff, and their only grandchild. He also enjoyed watching Lindsey play basketball, and watching Jeff coach her. Bearden was preceded in death by his parents, Frankie Dan and Gladys Marie (Lumpkin) Bearden, and one brother, Frankie Melvin Bearden. He is survived by his wife, Sue Bearden of Lorena; daughter Sherri and husband Jeff Hutcheon of Kingwood; granddaughter Lindsey Hutcheon; brother Bobbie Alan and wife Maxine Bearden of China Spring; brother-in-law Bobby and wife Karon Golden of Groesbeck; in-laws Howard Golden and Bama Golden of Waco; niece Kathy Talbert of China Spring; nephew the Rev. Don Alan Bearden of Breckenridge; and many friends and neighbors. Pallbearers were Heath Talbert, Jared Talbert, Darren Bearden, Drew Bearden, D.G. Freedman, and Adrian Kutcherovsky. Honorary pallbearers were Wendell Bearden, Joe Hestilow, Frank Cunningham, Larry Sharp, Mike Mirales, Jerry Bellville, Tommy Kalina, and Bruce Bowen. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Hewitt, or the Home Team Foundation (to help single parents) at 6103 Hidden Lakes, Kingwood, TX 77345. Connally/Compton Funeral Home, Waco, was in charge of arrangements.

Charline Hazel Gregory Grimes
Funeral services for Charline Hazel Gregory Grimes, age 97, of Austin, were held Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at University United Methodist Church in Austin. Interment icon followed at Memorial Hill Park in Pflugerville. She died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003. She was born March 5, 1906 in Beeville, to Charles Hardy Gregory and Mollie Cannon Keller Gregory, a pioneer family in that area. She lived in Dallas with her first husband, Clarence Wurzlow. When he died in 1966, she returned to Austin, and married Frank C. Grimes. They lived in Clifton until his death in 1992. She returned to Austin and has lived in the Summit until her death. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the University United Methodist Church Music Fund, 2409 Guadalupe, Austin, TX 78705. Memorials can be viewed on-line (www.wcfish.com). Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Austin, was in charge of arrangements.

Dovie Mae Dollins Young Butler
Funeral services for Dovie Mae Dollins Young Butler, 92, of Clifton, were held Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel, Chaplain Pat Dietrich and Dr. Tom Beaty officiating. Interment icon followed in Turnersville cemetery. Butler died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003. She was born to John Franklin and Phenia Elizabeth Hurst Dollins on Sept. 11, 1911, in Coryell County. She married Nathan Woodard Young in 1927. A daughter was born into this marriage. She was preceded in death by her second husband, George E. Butler, in 1002. They had been married 56 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, and four brothers. Survivors include daughter Joyce and husband Herschel Shelby, granddaughter Karen and husband Gary D. Sides, and great-granddaughter Shelby Jane Sides, all of San Angelo. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
