Louise Gardner Ray
Neva Louise Hail Gardner Ray, peacefully passed from this life into eternity to be with her Lord on Friday, January 7, 2011, in a Palestine care facility. Louise was 72 years of age, born on April 21, 1938, to B. W. and Jessie Hail in Chalk Mountain, Texas
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, in the Duffau cemetery near Hico, Texas, with Rev. Doug Washburn and Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday, at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian.
Louise was married
in Stephenville, Texas, on January 5, 1957, to James D. Gardner. Together they lived in Stephenville, then moved to Meridian, Texas in 1968 where they bought the Meridian Tribune. Together, they operated the newspaer for 18 years. Louise also ran an office supply business at the newspaper office. Never having owned a business nor run one, taking all of this on while raising a family was a daunting task. Nevertheless, she met the challenge, became proficient at it, and made it seem like she was meant for it. Louise was a housewife, mother, businesswoman, and active in her church, First Bapist Church in Meridian. To Her family, she was the perfect example of what a loving wife and mother should be, always carring herself with grace and dignity.
Louise was predeceased by her husband, Jay, in 1988, after which, she moved back to Stephenville.
Louise met another wonderful man, Bill Ray, and married
him in March of 1994. The lived in Stephenville and had seven very happy years until sadly, she was widowed again in May of 2001.
Louise is survived by two daughters, Janie Gardner Washburn and her husband, Doug; Becky Gardner Hennessee and her husband, David, all of Palestine; a son, Brett Gardner and his wife, Betty, of Clifton; 10 grandchilden and a sister, Ruth Hill of Arkansas.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Daniel Hennessee, Casey Dowell, Michael Gardner, Zachary Gardner, John Paul Gardner, Caleb Washburn; her son, Brett Gardner and a son-in-law, David Hennessee.

Wade Ray Smith, III, a new born, was born and died on Thursday, January 20, 2011, in a Dallas hospital.
Graveside services were held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in the Meridian Memorial cemetery located north of Meridian on SH#144. Rev. Richard Creech officiating.
Survivors are his parents, Billie Jean Lunsford and Wade Ray Smith, Jr. of Meridian; grandparents, Wade and Janice Smith of Meridian, Fred Lunsford of Euless, Carla Lunsford of Whitney; great-grandparents, Florinda Lobo of San Antonio and June Holly of Whitney; numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.

Tommy Joe Belcher

Tommy Joe Belcher, age 65, of Meridian, passed away early Saturday morning, January 22, 2011, in a Waco hospital after an extended illness.
A memorial funeral service was held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with Brent Prescher officiating.
Tommy was born Dec. 29, 1945, in Meridian, Texas, where he was raised and educated. He worked as an iron worker in the construction industry until an accident forced him to retire several years ago.
Survivors include a son, James Belcher of Austin; daughter, Angelaora Fife and a brother, R. G. "Butch" Belcher, III, of Meridian; number of other relatives and friends

Sherman M. Nystel
January 31, 1921 - January 22, 2011
Sherman M. Nystel, age 89, of Clifton, passed away early Saturday morning, January 22, 2011, in the Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian with Dr. Jerry Smith officiaing. Burial was in the Lanes Chapel cemetery near Valley Mills.
Sherman was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Meridian, Texas. He was a son of the late Sam Alfred Nystel and Maggie G. Knudson Nystel. Sherman served with the U. S. Army from 1940 until 1945 in WWII and Korea. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for exemplary conduct in ground combat against the armed enemy. On January 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Maye Moore in Ft. Worth. He lived there for a number of years where he worked for Texas Instruments for 13 years and later with the U. S. Postal Service for nearly 8 years. Sherman and his wife moved to Clifton in 1982 where he was a member of the Clifton First Baptist Church, V.F.W. and D.A.V.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Nystel of Clifton; daughter, Suzy Forbes and her husband, Glenn, of Dallas; a sister, Charlene Butler of Brandenton, Florida and a number of other relatives.
Pallbearers were Bill Moore, Tom Moore, Robert Moore, Bryan Moore, David Roush and Monty Chastain.
Sherman was also preceded in death by his brothers, Julian, James, Leland, C.A and a sister, Christine Brown.

Leonard Alton Tidwell
June 21, 1936 - January 23, 2011
Leonard Tidwell, age 74, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away Sunday morning, January 23, 2011, in Little Rock Arkansas.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the Emerald Hills cemetery in Kennedale, Tx.
Leonard was a former resident of Meridian before moving to Little Rock to be near a daughter. Leonard was in the United States Army and stationed in Weezboden, Germany in 1956. He was an anti- aircraft artillery - 75 mm gunnery. He received a medal for Expert Rifleman was an expert in the 75 mm gunnery. He was in the 5th Foremost Beret.
Leonard is survived by a son; Ray Tidwell of San Angelo, Texas; two daughters, Lisa McDaniel & her husband Terry of Little Rock, Ark., Sue Tweedle and her husband Chuck of Meridian; one sister; Margie Bryant of Grandview, Texas and one brother, Charles Tidwell of Ft. Worth; three grandchildren, Miranda, T.J., and Lauren. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by a son, John Tidwell; his parents, H.H. & Estelle Tidwell and two sisters, Nelda Cline & Marlene Clark.

Betty Bruce Lively Burns, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 in Glen Rose. Betty was born June 20, 1935 to Lloyd and Jewel Bruce in Johnson County. She married
Quinton Lively Aug. 9, 1952. Quinton preceded her in death March 6, 1999. She married
Troy Burns Sept. 10, 2001. Troy preceded her in death June 25, 2010. Also preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Bruce, mother, Jewel Bruce, brothers, Darwin Bruce, Billy Bruce and Robert Bruce and her precious grandaughter, Ellen Anderson.
Betty is survived by five children; Beverly and Rick Atkison of Round Mountain, Gary and Joyce Lively of Cleburne, Rachel Byrd and Harley of Walnut Springs, Rickey and Andria Lively of Walnut Springs and Deborah and Gary Anderson of Walnut Springs; seventeen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren, and a number of neices and nephews. Also survived by one brother, Deward Bruce of Keene, two sisters, Shirley Aycock of Moody and Brenda Daniel of Meridian. Also survived by her beloved pets Tip and Blue.
Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 27, 2012, in the Walnut Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Holladay and Rev. Jason Sharp officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery in Walnut Springs.
Pallbearers were Johnny Bruce, David Bruce, Brian Aycock, Travis Daniel, Joshua Daniel and Shawn Yoct.

Katy Hansard

Katy Hansard, age 90, of Clifton and a former long time resident of Meridian, passed away Sunday evening, April 1, 2012, in the Lutheran Sunset Home in Clifton.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 5, 2012, in the Meridian First Baptist Church with Rev. Colin Errington, Rev. Richard Creech and Rev. John Mark Fair officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery in Walnut Springs.
Serving as pallbearers were John Fulton, Billy Moore, Ricki Trotter, James Pennington, Colby Hutson, Rick Paulson, Guy Paulson, Gene Harville and Ron Bowlin.
Minnie Kathryn Miller, known by all as Katy, was born Aug. 28, 1921, in Breckenridge, Texas. She was a daughter of the late James B. Miller and Alma K. Rye Miller. She was raised in Giddings and Grand Saline where she finished school. Katy worked for North American in Dallas during WW II.
On Dec. 8, 1942, she was united in marriage to John E. Hansard in San Antonio, Texas. She worked hand in hand with her husband in full-time ministry. It was the most rewarding time of her life other than raising her two daughters. She and her husband lived in Walnut Springs for several years until moving to Meridian in 1986 after the retirement of her husband from the ministry. Her husband, John, preceded her in death on April 5, 1992.
Katy worked in the Meridian school office for 9 years where she was known as the school "grandmother". She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all. Katy was a happy Christian, loved to laugh and enjoyed living.
She is survived by her daughters, Jonette L. Antonell and her husband, Dale, of Corpus Chisti and Debbie Fair and her husband, John Mark, of Clifton; grandchildren, Kristina Valdez and Matthew Antonell of Corpus Christi, Michelle and Trisa Morrah, of Amarillo; great-grandchildren, Tayton Fincher, Justin Sudbury, Joli Emory and Hallie Valdez; cousins, Molly and Bill Lane of Austin; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorials may be made to the Meridian First Baptist Church.

Raymond Everett Tweedle, Jr., age 58, of Meridian, passed away in the Meridian Manor on Wednesday, March 28, 2012.
A memorial service was held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 2, 2012, in the dining hall at the Meridian Manor. Rev. Danny Holloday officiated.
Everett was born Feb. 27, 1954, in Clifton, Texas. He was a son of the late Raymond E. Tweedle, Sr. and Dorothy Patterson Tweedle. Everett was raised and Blum and Bay City. He attended school in Blum. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and anything outdoors. Everett worked on dairy farms, in the oil field industry and later as a fork life operator for Gunderson's in Cleburne.
He is survived by a daughter, Doreen May; sisters, Kay Heyen and Keith Turner of Glen Rose, Diana Aardeneaux and Don Walter of Fremont, Wisconsin; brothers, Kenneth Tweedle and wife, Conni, of Meridian, Jeff Tweedle and wife, Carisa, of Meridian, Justin Tweedle and Christine Speer of Victoria, Chuck Tweedle and wife, Sue, of Meridian and Troy Tweedle and wife, Lynn, of Meridian.

Bennett L. Morrow

Bennett Morrow, age 75, of Walnut Springs, passed away Saturday morning, April 7, 2012, at his residence near Walnut Springs after an extended illness.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in the Walnut Springs School Auditorium with Rev. Tim Emmons, Rev. Jason Sharp and Steve Morrow officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery in Walnut Springs with the Walnut Springs Masonic Lodge #959 providing graveside rites.
Serving as pallbearers were Terry Flory, Charley Buckingham, Lonnie Halbert, Jarrel Southerland, Bruce McCombs, Charles Gilbreath, Marlin Dempsey, John Moore, Tommy Speer and Mel Thomas.
Bennett was born July 29, 1936, in Haltom City, Texas, a son of the late Fred M. Morrow, Sr. and Pauline Gabbert Morrow. He had lived in Walnut Springs most of his life and finished high school there in 1955. On May 29, 1955, he was united in marriage to Ruthie Tanner, his high school sweetheart, in Walnut Springs.
Bennett worked as a self-employed carpenter and building contractor for many years. In 1991 he ran for and was elected Justice of Peace for Precinct #1 in Bosque County, a office he held for 20 years. During that time he attended numerous judicial courses in schools. He also served as Meridian City Judge for 17 years and Clifton City Judge for 2 years. Bennett had also served on the Walnut Springs I.S.D. School Board, Bosque County Historical Commission, HOTCOG Committee, Walnut Springs Lions Club, member of Walnut Springs Masonic Lodge #959, Walnut Springs Order of Eastern Star #401, Walnut Springs Volunteer Fire Department, City of Walnut Springs and held various positions in the Walnut Springs Baptist Church where he was a member.
Memorials are requested to be made to the Walnut Springs Baptist Church or the North Bosque Helping Hands in Meridian in memory of Bennett.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Ruthie Morrow, of Walnut Springs; daughters, Verna Ashcraft and her husband, Kevin, of Rockport and Sharla Collins and husband, Steve, of Walnut Springs; a son, Greg Morrow and his wife, Cheryl, of Walnut Springs; grandchildren, Derik, April, Stephania, Maegan, Ashlee, Deidra, Matthew, Ryan and Johnna; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn Autrey of Meridian; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many, friends.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Don Morrow, on Feb. 10, 2000; brothers, Fred, Jr., Carroll and Leland.
