Troy Oliver Burch
Troy Burch, 88, of Turnersville, passed away on Aug. 22, 2009, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Private graveside services were held Monday Aug. 24, at Valley Mills cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
Burch was born Jan. 5, 1921, in Calvin, Okla. He was the son of Oliver T. and Alice (Day) Burch. He was married
to Lola Belle Snowden in 1940 in Cheyenne, Okla. They had moved to the Valley Mills area in 1990 from Minnesota and, for the past 10 years, had lived in Turnersville.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Burch; a son, Aquila Burch, both of Turnersville; a daughter, Priscilla Winger of Ozark, Mo., and three grandchildren.
Dorothy Nell Allen Southern
Funeral services for Dorothy Nell Allen Southern, 83, of Valley Mills, were held Thursday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Valley Mills with Bro. John Wheatley officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill cemetery in Waco.
Dorothy Allen was born the eldest of four children to Charles F. Allen and Myrtle O. (Clark) Allen in Moody. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, Aug. 17.
She attended school at Moody through her junior year, then graduated from Lorena High School. There were many years she returned to Moody for Class Reunions.
On Oct. 21, 1945, she married
Gene T. Southern, two weeks after their first date, and that special time lasted 63 years up to his passing in April 2009.
Together they owned the family business, Southern Construction Co., and lived in Valley Mills for the past 50 years.
She was a Christian lady who was a member of First Baptist Church. Her hobbies included gardening and crafts. She was known for her ability to create lovely gifts from scratch, especially her paper “Quilling” and butterflies. She won many first place ribbons at the Heart of Texas Fair.
Flowers were plentiful in her yard due to her “green thumb.” She always looked forward to the family gatherings at Nannie’s River on the Brazos River, the July 4th parade in Valley Mills, and The Woods at Panther Branch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene T. Southern; parents; a brother, Riley Allen; and a niece, Jan Duggan.
Survivors include a son, Robert Gene Southern and wife, Lori; daughters, Linda Crook and husband, Brad; Darlene Burt and husband, Joe, all of Valley Mills; and Shirley Brown and husband, Gary, of Robinson; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Zollie Allen and wife, Carol; a sister, Julie Hall and husband, J.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were all her grandsons, Bret Crook, Sammy Burt, Cody Leach, Mark Southern, David Crook, David Adam Crook, Jay Burt, Chris Ownes, and Jeff Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Wendy Southern, Cynthia Tynes, Jeffifer Sargent, Crystal Guzman, Tommye Crook, Katy Owens, Londi Byrd, and Shelley Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Valley Mills, P.O. Box 627, Valley Mills.
Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
John Hollingsworth
Funeral services for John Hollingsworth, 54, of Lufkin, were held Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Foss Funeral Chapel in Valley Mills. Interment
was at Prairie View cemetery.
Hollingsworth was born July 22, 1955, in Waco, the son of Thurman Stephen and Ora Bell (Warren) Hollingsworth. He passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at his residence.
He had lived in the Waco, Dallas, and Lufkin areas most of his life. He formerly had worked for Cartamundi in Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.
Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Ora Bell Hollingsworth of Tyler; two sisters, Emma Childress of Sadler, and Ann Davis husband, Wesley, of Lufkin; and two brothers, Burt Hollingsworth of Dawson, and Clarence Hollingsworth of Dawson.
Judy Harmon
Judy Marie Harmon, age 62, of Clifton, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at her residence. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Valley Mills, under the direction of Foss Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church immediately following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Valley Mills Park Fund in memory of Judy Harmon, P.O. Box 641, Valley Mills, TX 76689. Funds will go towards new playground equipment in memory of Harmon.
Harmon was born March 5, 1947, in Vidalia, Ga. She was the daughter of James and Dorothy (Jarriel) Fountain. She had lived in the Clifton area for the past 20 years. Judy and her husband, Philip Harmon, have been very active in community affairs and have owned many family businesses in the Clifton area.
Survivors include her husband, Philip Harmon of Clifton; mother: Dorothy Fountain of Florida; children: Charline Metz of Florida, Carlton W. Harmon of Allen, Daniel Harmon, Murphy, Mac K. Harmon of Hewitt, James C. Harmon of Valley Mills; two brothers: Eddie and Larry Fountain; a sister: Sue Ramsey of Cisco; and 11 grandchildren.
David Brinegar
David Brinegar, age 62, of Valley Mills passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 25, 2009. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
Interment will be at the Valley Mills cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Brinegar was born on November 8, 1946, in Snyder. He was the son of E.R. (Buck) and Grace (Modgling) Brinegar. Brinegar was one of seventeen children.
He was a Vietnam Air Force Veteran and had lived in the Valley Mills area most of his life. He was a carpenter by trade.
Survivors include his children Alan, Jeff, and Wanda Brinegar; the mother of his children, Patsy Stitz; two sisters, Alice Payne and Pat Brinegar; two brothers, Richard Brinegar and Mike Brinegar; three grandchildren, Miranda Evans, Eric Brinegar, and Kara Brinegar; and numerous nieces, nephews, other friends and family.
Gerald Robertson
Gerald Gene Robertson, 58, of Valley Mills, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, in an auto accident in Bosque County. A memorial service was held in Pfugerville, funeral arrangements by Foss Funeral Home.
Robertson was born Feb. 3, 1951, in Seymour. He was the son of Esca W. and Vera A. (Russworn) Robertson. As a young man he was a national Karate Champ.
He was a carpenter by trade and often referred to as a rolling stone. He had lived in the Valley Mills area since 2007. Robertson was a Texas Longhorn Fan through and through.
Survivors include his children, Scott Robertson and wife, Veronica (Roni), of Pflugerville, Melanie Swanson and husband, Charles, of Buda; the mother of two children, Sandra Clevinger; a brother, Lynn Robertson and wife, Judy;two grandchildren, Chloe and Ava Swanson, and a close friend and partner, Frances Cowart.
Noe Dominguez
Funeral services for Noe Dominguez, 72, of Valley Mills, will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 19, at First Baptist Church of Valley Mills. Interment
will be in Valley Mills cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
Dominguez was born on March 21, 1937, in Los Rodriguez, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, the son of Mariano and Rosario (Rodriquez) Dominguez. He passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, at his home.
He was married
to Rosa Maria Garcia in 1970. He had lived in Valley Mills for the pass 22 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jose Noe Dominguez; two brothers, Ruben and Baldemar Dominguez, and a sister Teresa Rodriguez.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Maria Dominguez; children, Maricela Ramirez, Noemi Dominguez, Elizabeth Martinez, Sofia Fuerte, Araceli Chacon, Alejandro Dominguez, Lourdes Cardona, Maria Santos Perez, Blanca E. Porras, Rosario Hernandez, and five children in Mexico; 38 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Herlinda Correa, Sofia Sanchez, and Maria Elena Anchondo.
Alle Mae Bertelsen Tyler
Alle Mae Bertelsen Tyler, 96, of Clifton, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco following complications from a fall. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Clifton with Rev. James Ballard officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Clifton Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Clifton cemetery.
Alle Mae was born on September 25, 1913 to Scandinavian parents, Martin J. Bertelson and Alice Terguson Bertelson in the Mustang Community near Cranfills Gap. Her grandparents were all Bosque County pioneers from Scandinavia. She was the middle child of seven children, one boy and six girls. In 1918 at the age of 5 she moved with her family to Cranfills Gap. After graduating from Cranfills Gap High School and Clifton College Academy she received her Associate of Arts Degree from Clifton Junior College. At age 42 she earned the Bachelor of Science degree from North Texas State University in 1956 and in 1960 she obtained her Master of Science degree in Education from Baylor University.
Alle Mae taught grades 1-4 in a two room school in the Boggy community for 2 years. In 1934 she married
Ottis Tyler of the Live Oak Community. They lived on his farm where he operated his own trucking business and farmed. Other residences for the Tylers included Anson, Abilene, Monahans, Sweetwater and Fort Worth. To this union 2 sons were born, O Jan Tyler and Franklin Thomas Tyler. In 1956 the family moved to Clifton where Ottis had his plumbing service and Alle Mae resumed her teaching. She taught 4th grade at Clifton Elementary School. She retired in 1979 after teaching 25 years, 23 of those years in the same classroom.
The family joined the Clifton Methodist Church in 1956. Alle Mae appreciated her Christian faith that was established in her early years as a member of St Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap. She loved her church family, music, singing, playing piano, organ and enjoyed her years as a member of the choir.
Alle Mae loved and was loved by her entire family and enjoyed each and every family gathering, reunion, and birthday or holiday celebration. She loved to sing, play the piano, cook, bake and entertain her family and friends.
Alle Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Ottis; son, O Jan Tyler; daughter in law, Virginia; and grandsons, Mitchell and Marcus.
Survivors include her son, Frank and wife Betty of Corinth, grandson, Brandon Tyler and wife Christi of Denton; grandson Bryan Tyler of Lufkin; grandson Michael Tyler and wife Susi of Lubbock; granddaughter Martha Tyler MacFarland and husband Rob of Overland Park, Kansas; granddaughter Mary Tyler Heckmann and husband Kris of Austin; 9 great grandchildren, Brady, Nathan and Corban tyler of Denton, Sole Tyler of Lufkin, Robert and Alex Tyler of Lubbock, Robbie MacFarland of Overland Park, Kansas and Leah and Kyle Heckmann of Austin. Survivors also include her sister, Margie Rhoades of Fort Worth, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
