‘Jackie’ Dickey
Funeral services for Jacquelyn “Jackie” Dickey, 82, of Clifton, were held on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Our Lady of the Lake Episcopal Church in Laguna Park, followed by burial at Laurel Land cemetery in Fort Worth. She passed away on Sept. 24, at Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility. Dickey was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Hereford, to James C. “Wilks” Wilkison and Winnie Warren of Friona. She attended Texas Tech University where she was a cheerleader and member of Tri Delta Sorority. After graduating in 1945 with a B.B.A. in Business Administration, she married
Warren G. White and moved to Fort Worth in 1950. She was involved with the Architects’ Wives Association and Fort Worth Junior Woman’s Club. In 1976, she moved to Laguna Park on Lake Whitney with husband, John C. “Jack” Dickey, to join her mother’s business, Wilkison-Dickey Real Estate. She was a founding member, treasurer, and Sunday School teacher of Our Lady of the Lake Episcopal Church. Dickey moved to Clifton in 1996 and became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was involved in the Bosque Conservatory, Clifton Civic Improvement Society, and volunteered for many years at Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility. She was an avid bridge player, and will be remembered by many as a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Weston White and husbands, Warren White and Jack Dickey. She is survived by daughters Sheila White Welch and husband Ned of Clifton; and Carla White Greenwood and husband, Ward of Austin; stepson John Dickey and wife, Helen Mooty of Clear Lake; grandchildren Jacquelyn, Bailey, and Carson Greenwood, and Megan Welch. Memorials may be made to Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility or the Bosque Conservatory. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
Lonnie Reesing
Funeral services for Lonnie Jeanette McFadden Reesing, 89, of Clifton, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at First United Methodist Church of Clifton, with Rev. Tom Beaty presiding. Interment
in Clifton Cemetary will follow. Reesing passed away at the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home on Sunday, Oct. 1. Reesing was born on Oct. 31, 1916, in Clifton, to Lonnie McFadden, and Agnes Jeanette Hanson. She attended the Norse School from 1922 to 1934. On. Dec. 19, 1945, she married
Alfred Raymond Reesing and the two had three children. From 1916 to 1945, Reesing lived in Norse, moving to Gruver from 1946 to 1947, and back to Norse in 1948. She was a homemaker and worked with the First Baptist Daycare. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church from birth through 1950, then becoming a member of First United Methodist Church in 1951. Those who knew her said that she enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and visiting and entertaining relatives and friends. She devoted her life to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and she loved all children. Reesing is preceeded in death by her husband, and her sister Mildred McFadden. She is survived by her children, Robert Reesing and wife, Pat of Mart; David Reesing and wife Dawn of Irving; Paul Reesing of Clifton; grandchildren, Lori Spake, Rhonda Fitch, Jennifer Reesing, Justin Reesing, Eric Reesing, Matt Steger, and Chris Steger; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Eunice Cooksey, Francis Reesing, numerous neices, nephews, and cousins. Pallbearers included Justin Reesing, Eric Reesing, Jerry Tom Reesing, Lloyd Homerstad, Dean Powell, and Jerry Heath. Funeral services were under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
Leon ‘Pete’ Eckert
Funeral services for Leon “Pete” Eckert of the Cayote community near Valley Mills were held on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Zion United Church in Womack, with Dr. Charles T. Rice officiating. Mildred Conrad was organist, and David Conrad brought memories. Interment
followed in Clifton Memorial Park. Eckert passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Goodall-Witcher Hospital, at the age of 90. Leon Gustav Louis Eckert was born April 18, 1916, to Louis A. and Anna Thiele Eckert. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in the Bismarck community. He attended Cayote School and enjoyed basketball, baseball, and track. He completed Clifton High School After graduation, he farmed with his father. He enjoyed raising farm animals of all kinds, especially poultry. He owned and operated a sheep/goat shearing rig. He worked at the Valley Mills gin during cotton season and traveled to West Texas to work in the harvest fields with his uncle. Those who knew him best said that he was most comfortable out-of-doors and was interested in nature of all kinds. His hobbies were fishing and hunting. He loved to reminisce about bygone days. He was proud to be part of a large extended family and was always eager to visit with friends and neighbors. Although his eyesight failed in his later years, he strove to be as independent as possible. He used to help care for his aging parents during their last years. He was a member of Zion United Church, where he served on the Council. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Edna Kruse, and infant twins, Christina and Huldina; and nephew Marvin Wiede. Eckert is survived by his sister, Elenore Wiede and Clifton; nephews, Kenneth Kruse and wife, Betty of Clifton; and Lloyd Wiede and wife, Amy of Irving; niece, Kathleen Kruse of Clifton; and niece-in-law, Glenda Wiede of Clifton; great and great-great nieces and nephews; several first cousins; and an aunt, Estelle (Mrs. Herbert) Thiele. Pallbearers were Stephen Kruse, Bryan Kruse, Matthew Wiede, and Grant Wiede, great-nephews, Ray Cummings, and James Dreyer. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
Ada Day
Funeral services for Ada Joan Day, 79, of Lakeside Village, were held at the First Baptist Church of Kopperl on Sunday, Sept. 24. She passed away Friday, Sept. 22, in Bedford. Day was born March 10, 1927, in Kaufman. She married
Carlos Clenton Day Jr. on March 10, 1951, in Kaufman. She was a rancher with her husband and a member of the First Baptist Church of Kopperl for many years. She was also a member of the Blum Chapter 931, Order of the Eastern Star. Day was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Clenton Day, Jr., on Feb. 15, 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Rowena Brooks of Hurst; brother, Ralph Turner of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Jean Duncan and husband Don of Nederland; sister-in-law, Frances Turner of Kaufman; grandchildren, Renee Shadden and husband, Paul of Roanoke, Rhonda Ludbrook and husband, Chris of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Candace Thomas, Cason Shadden, and Faith Ludbrook. Alex Kelley
Graveside funeral services for Alex Justin Kelley, 22, of Meridian, were held on Monday, Sept. 25, in the new Meridian Memorial cemetery. Kelley passed away Friday, Sept. 22, near Brazos Point. Kelley was born on March 14, 1984, in McKinney. He is survived by his mother Gwen and her husband Tony Gomez of Meridian; two brothers, Jacob Kelley and Tony Gomez Jr., both of Meridian; one sister, Trishia Kelley of Meridian; grandparents Pat and Gary Kelley; Carmen Woosley, all of Meridian; and Lolo Gomez ob Abilene. Other survivors include great-grandparents Ama Lawrence of Princeton and George Ann Kelley and her husband Red of Aquilla; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Peggy Richardson
Graveside funeral services for Peggy Ruth Richardson, 81, of Morgan, were held in the afternoon on Monday, Sept. 25, in the Morgan cemetery. Richardson passed away Friday, Sept. 22, in Clifton. Richardson was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Fort Worth. She was a clerk for the Texas Employment Commission office for 19 years. She married
Robert Earl Riddle on Jan. 19, 1951, in Texarkana. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Riddle, on Jan. 15, 2002; one daughter, Racheal Joy Kostusak; and one granddaughter, Haley Riddle Reavis. Richardson is survived by two daughters, Terry Moser of Morgan and Yolanda Newby of Volente; one sister, Myrtle Frances White of Arlington; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one step-child, Sam Riddle. Jacqulan “Jackie” Emerson
Funeral services for Jacqulan “Jackie” Midge Emerson, 90, of Clifton, were held on Sept. 26, at the Clifton Funeral Home, with Rev. Tom Beaty presiding. She passed away early in the morning on Sept. 21, at the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. Emerson was born on April 20, 1916, in Colorado, to William Packard and Maude Harris. She attended school in Waco. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Clifton and United Methodist Women for many years. She learned stenography and became a stenographer, working for Strictland Transportation in Dallas for many years. Emerson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Buster Emerson; and brother S.H. Harris and James Edward Harris. She is survived by her sister-in-law Nettie Harris of Greenville; nieces and nephews Mike Harris, Robert Harris, Nettie Hill, Melvin Harris Jr., and Tammy; Gordon Harris and Melvin Harris; and a niece Barbara Jo Finley; as well as two cousins, Ruth Kerwer and Mary V. Hamilton. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
J.D. Moffatt
J.D. Moffatt, 65, of New Mexico, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Sept. 12. A family service will be held in Texas. Moffatt was cremated. Moffatt was born Jan. 27, 1941, in Hamilton, to Joe Roy and Laura Emily (Saylor) Moffatt. He was raised in Carlsbad and graduated from Carlsbad High in 1959. He always aspired to write a book about the antics of the “Dollar Two-Eighty Club” but only after the statute of limitations ran out. He attended Held Business College where he earned his Associate Degree of Applied Science. He also attended Denver University where he was on the debate team and the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. In 1963, he married
Virginia Shaw in Denver, Colo. He was employed as a Millwright with American Electric Services. Those who knew him said that he loved his grandchildren, auto racing, building, and fixing things that were challenging. Moffatt was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Moffatt; and one grandson, Jacob. He is survived by his son, Jeff Moffatt of Lancaster, Calif.; daughter, Mary Jo Maka-Moffatt of Honolulu, Hawaii; brothers, C.M. Moffatt of Carlsbad; Pat Moffatt of Saginaw; and Edwin Moffatt of Pearlington, Miss.; and two grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of West Funeral Home.
Helen A. Sampson
Funeral services for Helen A. Sampson, 97. She passed away Aug. 27, at the Kanawha Community Home. Sampson was born Feb. 24, 1909, in Madison, Minn., the daughter of Henry and Mary Sundahl. She grew up in North Dakota, Saskatchewan, Montana, and Washington state, ultimately graduating from high school in Nezperce, Idaho. She attended Walla Walla College in Walla Walla, Wash. In 1935, she married
Rev. Perry Sampson in Idaho. Together they served Lutheran parishes in Nezperce, Idaho; Huxley, Leland, Kanawha, Calamus, Thorton, and Story City, Iowa, as well as Clifton. She participated fully in the activities of the congregations and communities where she lived, teaching Sunday School and Bible School and being active in the various women’s groups. She was a gifted Bible Study leader. In addition to raising four children, she enjoyed hobbies of sewing, quilting, knitting, and crocheting. Her special talent was sewing Barbie Doll clothes. Those who knew her said that she would be remembered for her gracious manner,
