Paul C. Murphey, III
Paul C. Murphey, III, 53, of Meridian, passed away suddenly on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 5, in a Grapevine hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 9, in the Meridian First United Methodist Church with Rev. William Sterling and Rev. Mike Alexander officiating. Burial was in the Meridian cemetery. Murphey was born July 29, 1953, in Meridian, the son of the late Paul C. Murphy, Jr., and Sue Carleton Brooks Murphey. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1971 and enrolled at Texas A&M; University where he graduated in 1975 with a degree in Animal Science. On June 4, 1977, he was united in marriage to Jane Stockard in Meridian. He worked from 1977 to 1982 with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service in Ft. Bend and Hood counties. He returned to Meridian in May of 1982 to manage the family owned Circle M Ranch, his true passion. Murphey served on the Meridian School Board from 1985 to 2000. He also served on the Bosque County Appraisal Review Board for several years. Murphey was a member of the American Hereford Association, Texas Hereford Association, Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association, Meridian First United Methodist Church, Bosque County A&M; Club, and a past member of the Lions Club. Those who knew him said that he will be remembered as a loving husband and steadfast father with a compassionate heart for all animals. Murphey is survived by his wife, Jane Stockard Murphey of Meridian; daughter, Ann Murphey Blair and husband, Jason of Flower Mound; sons, Robert Edward Murphey of Houston; Michael Carleton Murphey and fiance, Emily Silverman of College Station; and David Ray Murphey of Meridian. Other survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Milam of Waco; nieces MaryBeth Milam of Hoover, Ala.; Brooks Milam of Waco; and other relatives and a host of friends. Pallbearers included Roger Parsons, Tom Henderson, David Christian, Mark Jackson, Alan Day, David Winkler, Kelly Ladd, and Damon Patterson. Frances M. Woosley
Frances Marie Woosley, 86, went to be with her Lord on Aug. 4. Memorial services were held Wednesday at the Valley Mills Care Center. Woosley was born on Nov. 19, 1919, to Dave and Bertha Barton in Galveston, the youngest of eight children. She was orphaned at age five due to the death of her parents. She and two of the younger children were placed in an orphanage in Weatherford where she remained until she graduated in 1938. She received a scholarship and went to beauty school where she received her hair dresser and cosmetology license. She married
Wayland Woosley on Oct. 26, 1940. They had a son, Alton Woosley on Nov. 30, 1941. She lived in Galveston most of her life, but after having a stroke she moved to the Valley Mills Care Center where she became close to many of her care givers. She was preceded in death by her husband and all of her siblings, including Lena, Dave Jr., Jeanette, Albert, Lillian, Roselie, and William. Survivors include her son Alton and wife, Sandra; their twin boys Scott and Troy; their children, Jordanna, Jaley, Jennah, Jacquelin, and Jake Woosley; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services were under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
Hazel Dameron
Hazel Smith Dameron, 85, of China Spring, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 2. Funeral services were on Saturday at the First Baptist Church in China Spring with Rev. Mike Copeland officiating. Interment
followed at Waco Memorial Park. Dameron was born on Sept. 13, 1920, in Lorena, the daughter of Thomas and Ida (Harvey) Smith. In 1947, she married
the love of her life, Pete Dameron. They were married
50 wonderful years. Those who knew her said that she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She taught Sunday School for many years and had been a bookkeeper. She was a dedicated and loyal member of the China Spring Civic Club, and a long time resident of China Spring were she worked along beside her husband on the dairy farm. Dameron was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Clyde and Glenn Smith; and a son-in-law, Blake Hammons Sr. She is survived by her children, Kay Hammons of Florida; Penny and husband Glenn Boyd; Grady Dameron, all of China Spring; four grandchildren, Blake Hammons Jr. and family; Gary Boyd and family; Andrew Boyd and family; Laura Hammons; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Laura Beth Farris; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Family members said, “A special thanks to Scott & White Hospice and all their acts of kindness shown to us.” Memorials may be made to either China Spring First Baptist Church or to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital. Dr. James G. Barton
Funeral services for Dr. James G. Barton, 78, of Laguna Park, were held on Aug.8, at Fort Graham Baptist Church of Whitney with Dr. Allan Lane officiating. Interment
followed in Peoria cemetery. Barton passed away on Aug. 4, in Clifton. Born Jan. 19, 1928 in Merlin, Barton was the son of Charles Esley and Pauline Burkett Barton. He grew up in the McClanahan Community until he was ten and then moved to Yoakum as a youth and graduated from Yoakum High School. After graduation he went to Texas A&M; for two years, served in the U.S. Army for two years, and received his B.S. degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College. He trained in laboratory technology in Houston. On Feb. 3, 1950, he married
Mary Jane Williamson. He then worked tow years in Texas City as a lab tech before attending U.T. Medical School in Galveston. He then did his internship in family practice in Austin’s Breckenridge Hospital in 1956. He practiced on year in Fort Worth and six months in Burnet before moving to Whitney in November of 1958 and started his family practice there. Barton was in Whitney until January 1988 when he went to the VA Hospital in Waco for five years and retired in 1993. Barton was preceded in death by his parents; son Bruce G. Barton on Dec. 15, 1985; and brother Tom Barton. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Barton of Laguna Park; daughters Terri Barton and husband, Ted Arnold of Euless; Paula Barton and fiance, Joe Sikes of Laguna Park; grandson Brad Barton; granddaughters Kyndal and Jordan Lilley. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Marshall and Marshall was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Larry Turner
Funeral services for Larry Don Turner, 61, of Laguna Park were held on Sunday, Aug. 6., in the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Clifton cemetery. Turner passed away Friday, Aug. 4. Turner was born in Clifton on Aug. 11, 1944, to parents Charlie and Vera Turner. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1962. On Jan. 17, 1964, he married
Charlotte Mathews and the couple moved to Laguna Park in 1968 where they were in the auto repair business with his parents until their retirement. After his parents retirement, Larry and Charlotte ran Turner Automotive until Larry’s illness and closed the shop in November of 2004. Turner was a Past Master of the Clifton Masonic Lodge and a member of the West Shore Fire Department for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and working with his hands around the house. He was preceded in death by his brother Bill, his father Charlie; and grandparents Carl and Belle Remington and Pelly and Lottie Turner. Turner is survived by his wife Charlotte, daughters Patty Turner and Cindy Farmer and husband Michael; granddaughter Rohen and Bronwyn Turner and Brianna and Rachel Farmer; and his mother Vera Turner. Pallbearers included Kirk Bonner, Cody Degges, Michael Dorsey, Dennis Poe, Jeff Schaffner, and Patty Turner. Honorary Pallbearers included Wade Degges, Michael Farmer, Randy Sechrist, and Terry Sechrist. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Heart, P.O. Earlene B. Lindsey
Funeral services for Earlene Behringer Lindsey, 53, who passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday July 26. Lindsey was born on Aug. 9, 1952 and raised in Meridian. She was a graduate of Meridian High School. She later attended and graduated from Tarleton State University school of Nursing and was a wonderful registered nurse. She is preceded in death by her Father, Earl Russell Behringer, and two brothers, Kenneth Behringer, and Jimmy Behringer. She is survived by her husband Roger Lindsey; mother, Gussie Damron Behringer; three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Lawure Wigington, John Kenneth Wigington, and James Phillip Wigington; one granddaughter, Liberty Ann Wigington; and many step children, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Those who knew her said that she will be missed by everyone. Her family said, “Rest with the Lord Miss Lady.”
Dollie Holmes
Dollie Holmes, 87, of Valley Mills, passed away Saturday, July 29, in a local nursing home. Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Patton Baptist Church, with Rev. Pat Cummings officiating. Interment
was in the Valley Mills cemetery. Holmes was born April 18, 1919, in Rusk county. She was the daughter of Frank and Corrine (Davis) Williams. She grew up in the Gatesville, Mosheim, and Ocee areas. She married
Earl Holmes on Aug. 11, 1945, in Waco. During their lifetime, they took in foster children. Holmes was a member of Patton Baptist Church for 71 years. Dollie and Earl were dedicated members of Patton Baptist Church and were involved in all kinds of projects. She is preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Richard and Frank Williams; sisters, Ruth Franklin, Louise Money, Delia Money, and Mary Simons. Survivors include a foster son, Bud Holmes, several nieces and nephews, and many close friends. Foss Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Lida New
Funeral services for Lida New, 89, were held on Saturday, July 29, at Hallmark Baptist Church. New passed away Wednesday, July 26, surrounded by her family. Interment
was in the Clifton cemetery. Those who knew New said that she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved quilting and made a quilt for each one of her grandchildren. She loved church and was a member of Hallmark Baptist Church. She also enjoyed the senior citizen meetings. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson New; daughter, Amy Darlene New; twin sister, Ida Cummins; brother Walter May; sisters, Annie Marie May and Amy Nell Smith; grandson, Donovan McDonald. Survivors include children Raymond New and wife, Lavada; Ladena McDonald and husband, Steve; Mary Ward and husband, Richard; Alton New and wife Jan; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones. The family suggests that memorials be made out to the Hallmark Baptist Church Building Fund. Laurel Land Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Wintz Oran Belcher
Funeral services for Wintz Oran Belcher, a Clifton resident, were held on Monday, Aug. 1. He passed away in the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home on Saturday, July 29, and was 89 years old. Rev. Jerry Smith Officiated, with burial following in the Morgan cemetery. Belcher was born Dec. 24, 1916, in Morgan. He was a retired Southern Pacific Railroad Locomotive Engineer. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Treviso of Amarillo and Linda Booth of Cornelius, Ore.; a sister, Nancy Pickens of Lorena; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Providence Hospice. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
John L. Glenn
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, July 19, In Houston at Earthman Downtown Chapel, for John Linton Glenn, 47. He passed away on Monday, July 17. Interment
will be Friday at 1 p.m., at Oak Grove cemetery in Walnut Springs. Glenn worked for the University of Texas Health Science Center as an animal attendant for several years. He was also a member of Innerchange Freedom Initiative prison ministry. He is survived by his children, Katrina Fuller and husband James; Camilla Glenn; Ryan Glenn; and graddaughter, Serenity Wright. Funeral services were under the direction of Earthman Funeral.
