Barbara McKinzie Kirbie
Barbara McKinzie Kirbie, 63, of Anchorage, Ala., died of congestive heart failure on May 31, at Providence Extended Care Center. Visitation was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, with services following. Chaplain Don McCullough officiated. Kirbie was born Nov. 2, 1942, in Sherman. She moved to Alaska in June of 1970 and taught math at Mears Middle School unitl Bartlett High School opened in 1973. She taught math at Bartlett from 1973 until her retirement in 1989. She was the math club sponsor while teaching at Barlett High School. Her father, Otis McKinzie, preceded her in death. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Bobbie and Joe Denson of Clifton; sister, Linda Loyd of Irving; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Ken Morton of Anchorage; grandsons, Bradley Morton and Scott Morton of Anchorage; and numerous extended family members in Texas. There will be a memorial service at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 13, at 10:30 a.m. Fellowship and lunch will follow the service. All friends and relatives are invited.
Norman E. “Rusty” Day
Norman E. (Rusty) Day, of Clifton, formerly of Fort Worth, passed away peacefully Monday, June 5, at his home in Clifton, after a courageous battle against lung cancer. Funeral service were held Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran cemetery. Born July 3, 1931 in Olton, Day graduated from Austin High School in El Paso. He served as a marine in the Korean War, married
Eileen Florence Polsley in San Diego, Calif. in 1954, and began his remarkable 29 year career with General Dynamics in 1957. He received a Certificate of Management from Texas Christian University and completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard University. The crown jewel of his career was the highly successfully F-16 Fighting Falcon program which continues today. According to those who knew him, Day was a highly talented and admired materials contract negotiator who was known for his outstanding leadership. He loved his work and his co-workers. He retired as Vice President of Material, Fort Worth Division in 1986. He and his wife moved to their cattle ranch in Clifton, in 1986, where they have spent the last 20 years. He loved being a rancher and loved the land, especially growing and sharing the abundant crop of vegetables from his garden. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, caring for his cattle and passing on his love for these things to his children and grandchildren. Known for his incredible wit and free spirit, his values of kindness, integrity and honor, and his enthusiasm for life and love for his family are his legacy. Day was preceded in death by parents Herbert and Lottie Belle Day; mother Gertrude Fuchs; sister Elaine Wright; and brother Waymon Day. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Eileen; son Michael Norman Day and wife Karen of Round Rock; daughters Colleen Bocanegra and husband Willie of Decatur, Carrie Oberle and husband Jack of Decatur; grandchildren Troy Michael and Paul Timothy Day; Sophie Eileen, Sarah Colleen and Elise Marie Bocanegra; and Katie Marie and Nicholas Edward Oberle; step-sister Johnell Day of Hurst; Aunt Margie Smith of Mineral Wells; and many nieces and nephews and best friend, P.B. (Preacher) Knight of Clifton. Pallbearers included Troy Day, Paul Day, William Bocanegra, Jr., Jack Oberle, Stephen Brady, and Scott Weathersby. Honorary Pallbearers were P.B. Knight, Ray Emerson, Ray Jones, Lewon Simpson, Charles White and Don Wren. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Clifton. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Olita Coronado Gutierrez
Olita Coronado Gutierrez, age 61, of Waco passed away Sunday at her residence. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Valley Mills, with Rev. Christi Robins officiating. Interment
was at Hillcrest cemetery in Temple, under the direction of Foss Funeral Home. Gutierrez was born in Snyder, on Oct. 9, 1944. She was the daughter of Augustine and Maria (Rios) Coronado. She was married
to Douglas Jeffries Sr. in 1965. She later married
John Gutierrez who preceded her in death in 2001. According to those who knew her, Olita loved family gatherings, gardening, and the outdoors. She was known for her outgoing spirit, laughter, and love for all. Survivors include her children, Douglas M. Jeffries Jr., Maurice Jeffries, Daniel Jeffries, and Zina Hoisington; step-children, Virginia, Janie, and Juan Jr.; sisters, Mary Felan, Gloria Guerrero, Maria Merriman; brothers, Manuel Cantu, Raymond Coronado; grandchildren, April Lewis, Richard Hoisington, Cameron Jeffries, Connor Jeffries, Maurice Jeffries Jr., Ivelisse Rodriguez, Antonio Rodriguez, Krystal Chapman, Brittany Chapman, Buddie Chapman; great-grandchildren, Damian Lewis, Keenan Lewis, and Marcel Douglas; and a special granddaughter by heart, McKenna Rae Harper.
Christine Church Cockrell
Christine Church Cockrell, 95, passed away at her residence in Whitney on Sunday, May 21. Graveside services were held on Monday, May 22, at the Ridge Park cemetery in Hillsboro, with Dr. Charles Rice of the Zion United Church of Christ of Womack officiating. She was born on May 13, 1911, in Corsicana to James Monroe and Kate (Collum) Church. She gratuated from high school in Corsicana and then attended Hillsboro Junior College. On June 13, 1931, she married
Thomas D. Cockrell. She lived in Hillsboro most of her life and was very involved in many organizations and activities over the years. She ws a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro and also a charter member of the Sesame Club and past member of the cemetery Board. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 23, 1986 and her son, James T. Cockrell on Nov. 18, 1992. Survivors include her son Don G. Cockrell and wife Cindy Whigham Cockrell of Laguna Park; five grandchildren, Craig, Clay, Sean, Ross, and Kelly Cockrell; ten great-grandchildren; and extended family, Fred and Sue Ella Stevens of Whitney. Funeral services were under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors.
Albert Edward Scott Jr.
Albert Edward Scott Jr., 63, passed away on May 15. A memorial service was held on Thursday, May 18, at the Clifton Funeral Home, with Brother Bill Schibler officiating. Scott was born on Dec. 21, 1942, in Big Spring, to Ruby McNeely and Albert Scott. He attended Clifton Schools. On April 7, 1978, he married
Sandra Benner in Gatesville, and the couple had three children. He resided in Houston, Gatesville, and Clifton. He worked as a mechanic, cook, welder, and a truck driver. He was a Baptist. Scott served as a Private First Class, Heavy Weapon Tech, in the U.S. Army. Those closest to him said that he enjoyed fishing, camping, telling jokes, cooking, dancing, and drawing. He was described as a proud father and an even prouder grandfather, and the proudest great-grandfather. He was a loving and caring husband and a good brother. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Terry Tippit; and his dog Sam. Scott is survived by his wife Sandra, Clifton; son, James (Dee Tippit); daughter Sharon Sellers of Houston; brother Roy Mickey Scott; eight grandchildren, William, Stephanie, and James Sellers of Houston; Elliot, Amanda, and Erin Tippit of Gatesville; Chasity and Destiny; and five great-grandchildren, Jaden of Houston; William, Kaylie, Tristan, Kassidie, and his dog Pugs; daughter-in-law Cindy Tippitt; son-in-law Wayne; and sister-in-law Karen Scott. Funeral services were under the direction of Clifton Funeral Home.
Jesse W. Wiese
Jesse W. Wiese, 68, passed away Saturday, May 20, at his residence in Meridian. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 23, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Herb Lammert officiating. Burial was in the St. Olaf Lutheran cemetery near Cranfills Gap. Wiese was born Aug. 4, 1937, in Meridian on the family farm. He was the son of the late Lonnie W. Wiese and Hilma Gladys Jorgenson Wiese. He finished school in Meridian ans served in the U.S. Navy for several years. Wiese worked in McGregor at the Hercules Missle Plant, where he was in charge of the final approval of the missles before they were shipped out. After his retirement, Wiese was active with Child Protective Services in Bosque County. He was one of the founding members of the North Bosque Emergency Services. Wiese also worked in law enforcement with the Bosque County Sherrif’s Office. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. On Feb. 15, 1987, he was united in marriage to Nancy Amon in Orlando, Fla. Wiese was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Wiese and a brother, Lonnie Wiese, Jr. He is survived by his wife Nancy of Meridian; step-son, Ken Helmers and wife, Julia of Alvin; step-daughter, Carol Trammell and husband, Richard of Gore, Okla.; sister, Lois brown and husband, Jimmy of Vancouver, Wash; step-grandson, Kenneth Eugene Counts of Okla.; step-granddaughter, Nicole Hermers of Colo. and Amber Trammell of Okla.; a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives. Pallbearers include Jimmy Brown, Tom Holstrom, Ken Helmers, Richard Trammell, Daniel Amon, and David Amon. Honorary pallbearers include Albert Biggs and Smokey Jorgenson. Lawson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Joe L. Ratliff
Joe L. Ratliff, 42, of Clifton, passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning, May 16, at his residence. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 20, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian with Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Burial was in the Cranfills Gap cemetery. Ratliff was born Aug. 21, 1963, in Hico, a son of Joseph Leon Ratliff, Sr. and Valvetta Virginia Petty Ratliff. He served with the Army National Guard for six years. At the time of his death, he was working as a self-employed diesel mechanic. On June 9, 2000, he married
Beth Conrad in Clifton. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Ratliff was preceded in death by his brothers James Keith Ratliff in 1983 and Jimmy Monroe Ratliff in 2004. Survivors include his wife Beth of Clifton; sons Justin and Joshua Ratliff, both of Clifton; daughter Brandi Crubaugh and husband, Robbie of Waco; parents Joe and Virginia Ratliff of Clifton; step-daughter, Ashley Harris and husband Robbie Abel of Valley Mills; step-son Paul Harris of Kenal, Alaska; grandchildren, Hannaelore Abel of Valley Mills and Haven Crubaugh of Waco; brothers Jeff Ratliff and wife, Teresa of Clifton; John Ratliff and wife, Shawna of Clifton; a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers were Donnie Hinds, Jr., Dean Hinds, Kevin Patrick, Ben Thiele, Jr., Robbie Able, and Wayne Willis. Lawson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Martha Marshall
Martha Helen Hendrix Marshall, 82, of Clifton, passed away Friday night, June 16, in the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 20, in the Clifton First Baptist Church, with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Kopperl cemetery. Marshall was born June 4, 1924, in Blum, a daughter of the late John Hendrix and Sarah Elizabeth Kyle Hendrix. She lived in Blum for several years before moving to Kopperl, where she was raised and educated. On March 24, 1943, she was united in marriage to Leo J. Marshall in Meridian. The couple lived in Kopperl until Leo was called to serve in World War II. They moved to San Antonio while her husband was in training. After his deployment, she moved to Fort Worth. When the war was over, the couple moved to Walnut Springs. Her husband worked for the lime plant in Blum and she worked for Walls in Cleburne. In 1966, they moved to Clifton to make their home and raise their children. She worked for BJ’s Western Wear and the Blueberry House in Clifton. For many years, she worked at Winn’s in Clifton as the assistant manager before retiring. She joined the Clifton First Baptist Church in 1966, where she was an active member, serving as a GA leader and on various committees, from Fellowship Committee to the Benevolence Committee. She was also active in her Sunday school class to plan many ministry projects and fellowships. Marshall was active in community activities such as Band Parents, the PTO, Girl Scout leader, and Central Texas Fair. Marshall is survived by her husband, Leo J Marshall; daughter, Jan Bobe and husband, Phil of Dallas; Myra Lackey and husband, David of Coppell; granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Lackey of Coppell; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers were Jake Wimberly, Ronny Wimberly, Billy Wimberly, Emil Schwartz, Gary Marshall, Ricky Scruggs, Johnny Hendrix, and Billy Jack Calahan. Lawson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Paul Robertson
Paul Robertson, 73, of Clifton, formerly of Hampton, Va., passed away Thursday, June 22, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Sunday, at Foss Funeral Chapel. Interment
will be in Oakland cemetery in Hampton, Va. Robertson was born Feb. 22, 1933, in Virginia. He was a Korean Army Veteran. He worked as a stunt man for the movies in California. He also worked for the railroad. Survivors include his buddy, David Fisk and family; staff at both the Clifton Care Center and the Valley Mills Care Center; and Faye Veteto.
