JAMES "BUB" BOWEN, age 53, of Benbrook and former Coleman resident, died Monday, January 27, 2003 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Boyd officiating. Graveside committal service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Benbrook cemetery with Dr. Larry Sanders officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas.
James "Bub" Bowen was born May 17, 1949 in Coleman, Texas and was a son of Jake and Cleva Olena Hogan Bowen. He grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1967. He graduated from Texas A & M University in 1971 and then graduated from the Texas Tech School of Law. On June 21, 1969 he married
Dorothy Rutzke in Homestead, Florida. He practiced law in Coleman from 1975-1997 when he moved to Benbrook. He was the owner of Bowen Contracting Company in Fort Worth. He was a member of Trinity Hills Baptist Church in Benbrook and was a former member of First Baptist Church in Coleman. While living in Coleman he served as the County Attorney.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bowen of Benbrook, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Felicia and Jim Bob Barker of Benbrook and Kari and Shea Connelly of Fort Worth; one son, Ramey Bowen of Benbrook; three grandchildren, Ansley, Simone and Danielle Barker all of Benbrook; mother-in-law, Betty Rutzke Quillen of Homestead, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Bowen, and two sisters, Ima Jean Henderson and Lucia Fay Martin.
Family visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Willie D. Norwood, age 82 of Coleman, died Friday, February 28, 2003 at his residence. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery in San Antonio. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Norwood was born June 8, 1920 in Dermont, Arkansas. He served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Meda
He is survived by two sisters, one son, several grandchildren and friends.
WILLIAM MAYNARD "ANDY" ANDERSON, age 72, of Novice, Texas passed away Saturday, February 22, 2003 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. The body will be cremated and no services are planned.
Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Andy Anderson was born October 23, 1930 in Coleman, Texas and was the son of Kay Anderson and Elsie Todd Anderson. He grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1948 and received an Associate’s Degree from New Mexico State University. He served in the United States Marines for 14 years, including three years in Korea. He lived in Newcastle, Colorado for many years and moved to Novice, Texas in 2001. He had been employed as a potash miner.
Survivors include three sons, David Wayne Anderson of Rifle, Colorado, Daniel Kay Anderson of Wichita Falls, Texas and Dick A. Anderson of Carlsbad, N. M.; two sisters, Norma Kay Elkins of Cloudcroft, N.M. and Janelle Tyson of Novice, Texas; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one niece and six nephews.
Memorials may be made to Veterans Administration Hospital, Rifle, Colorado.
EVELYN D. CLIETT, age 85, of Santa Anna, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at Songbird Lodge in Brownwood. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2003 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating and assisted by Rev. Lee Evans and Rev. Raymond Jones. Burial will follow in the Santa Anna cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Evelyn was born January 12, 1918 in Santa Anna and was the daughter of Neely and Katie Dean Evans. She grew up in Santa Anna, graduating from Santa Anna High School in 1934. She also attended Texas Woman’s University in Denton. On May 2, 1942 she married
James M. Cliett and he preceded her in death on December 24, 1996. She lived in Hurst and Fort Worth for several years before moving to Coleman in 1960. She was dietician for the Hurst ISD, Coleman hospital, Brownwood ISD and Coleman ISD. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coleman, the Esther Sunday School Class and Triple L. She also was a member of the Santa Anna Senior Citizens and played with the Domino Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Survivors include one daughter, Molly Cliett of Santa Anna; two grandsons, Neely Fawcett and Daniel Fawcett both of Santa Anna and Daniel’s fiancée Leah Sanders; several cousins; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Helen Cliett of El Paso.
She was preceded in death by a son, Neely Maurice Cliett in 1947.

SHANNA WILLIAMS JENNINGS, age 46, of Brownwood, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2003 after a three year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2003 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Weathers officiating. Burial will follow in the Gouldbusk cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Shanna was born January 20, 1957 in Brownwood, Texas, the daughter of Mozelle Monsey Williams and the late Lee Williams. She grew up in Gouldbusk and graduated from Mozelle High School in 1975. She was also a graduate of the Howard County School of Nursing as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. In 1976 she married
Rick Jennings in Coleman. She lived in San Angelo for 10 years, Beaumont for two years and moved to Brownwood in 1993. She was a member of Gouldbusk United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Rick Jennings of Brownwood; one daughter, Stacye Jennings of Brownwood; one son, Gunner Jennings of Brownwood; mother, Mozelle Williams of Gouldbusk; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Terrye and Dwight Nanny of Gouldbusk and Cindye and Curtis Baker of Abilene; one brother and sister-in-law, Skip and Vicki Williams of Lake Coleman; five nieces and three nephews; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Delores Jennings of San Angelo, Texas.

HEDDY BARNETT, age 60, of Coleman, passed away Monday, February 17, 2003 at Coleman Healthcare Center. Graveside funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Coleman City cemetery with Donald Williams officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Heddy was born July 23, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas and was a daughter of the late Claude Lee and Elda Henniger Barnett. She grew up in Coleman and attended school here. She had previously been employed as a nurses’ aide. Heddy had been active in Boy Scouts of America and MADD. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Wesley Irwin of Fort Hood, Texas; two grandchildren, Destiny and Sean; a step-son, Scotty Kitchens of Fort Hood, Texas; seven brothers and sisters-in-law, Roland and Jean Barnett of Silver Valley, Richard and Donna Barnett of Wichita Falls, Randall Barnett of Coleman, Ray and Brenda Barnett of Bronte, Ricky and Joanne Barnett of Coleman, Rinn and Janey Barnett of Abilene and Riley Barnett of Coleman; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Nell Hopper of Abilene, Claudia and Glenn Kemp of Burkburnett, Annie and Billy Brown of Coleman, Casey and Randy Lobstein of Abilene; Etta Bishop of Boerne; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

CLITIS H. SINCLAIR, age 77, of Coleman died Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at an Abilene hospital. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Henry N. Chisholm officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Bangs cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Sinclair was born September 26, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, to the late Carl and Emma Wiltrout Sinclair. He grew up in Mt. Pleasant and attended school there. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. A graduate of Texas A & M University, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education. In 1951 he married
Patsy Findley in Bangs. He lived for many years in Ozona and Ruidoso, New Mexico, moving to Coleman in 1997. He retired from the USDA Soil Conservation Service as a District Conservationist. He was a member of the United Christian and Presbyterian Church in Coleman and a member of Masonic Lodge #578.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Sinclair of Coleman; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jan Beck of Midland and Kim and Danny Horton of Bangs; one son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Cheryl Sinclair of Los Lunas, New Mexico; one brother and sister-in-law, Karl and Doris Sinclair of Newalla, Oklahoma; two sisters, Berniece Edwards of Waco, Texas and Sue Sterling of Longview, Texas; seven grandchildren, Johna (and husband Jason) Swopes, Jeana Beck, Kade Horton, Ethan Horton, Cody Sinclair, Benjamin Sinclair and Jacob Sinclair; three great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jenna Swopes and Jaiden Beck Clary; numerous nieces and nephews.

ROBERT S. ARNOLD, age 98, of Coleman, Texas, died Saturday, February 8, 2003 in Coleman. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Elm Street Church of Christ with Tim Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Silver Valley cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Robert S. Arnold was born January 26, 1905 in Coleman County, Texas and was a son of Milton Franklin Arnold and Rowena Victoria Lawrence. He grew up in Coleman and attended school in Silver Valley and Coleman. On February 13, 1928 he married
Cora Angie McDonald in San Angelo and she preceded him in death on May 24, 1988. He was the founder and publisher of National Music Company and had written hundreds of gospel songs. Mr. Arnold was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame on September 14, 1985 and had been a member of Southern Gospel Music Association since 1975. He received a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding contributions to Christian music from Abilene Christian University. He lived in Ft. Worth, Kennedale and Jefferson before returning to Coleman in 1975. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one foster daughter and her husband, Wanda and Tommy Williams of Hurst; two grandsons, Billy Williams of N. Richland Hills and Bobby Williams of Carrollton; two nephews and their wives, Glen and Nancy Johnson of Alvarado and Max and Yvonne Lowrie of Ft. Worth; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two great-nephews, David Johnson Odessa and Glen Johnson, Jr. of Fallon, Nevada.
Family visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Stevens Funeral Home.

BEVERLY KELSEY, age 67, of Coleman died Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at Coleman County Medical Center. Beverly was born May 19, 1935 in Evansville, Indiana and was the daughter of Thomas Clarence Hart and May Lou Swonder Hart. She grew up in Evansville where she also attended school. In 1954 she married
Bud Kelsey in Wichita, Kansas and he preceded her in death in 1989. She lived in Hawley for a number of years and moved to Coleman in 1970. She and her husband owned and operated Buddy’s Grocery in Coleman from 1973-1986. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hawley.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and David Hail of Coleman, Debbie and Terry Max Brown of Tolar and Terri Kelsey of Baird; one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Helen Hart of Duncan, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Shawn Hail, Dava (and husband Jason) Hayden, Heather Hail, Stephanie (and husband Russell) Lebay, and Khaki Brown; several nieces and nephews.

Jo Ann "Mama Jo" Baker, age 76, of Valera, died Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at an Abilene hospital. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. L. A. Caldwell officiating and assisted by Rev. A. L. Creel. Committal service will follow at the Valera cemetery with Rev. Marvin Hale officiating. Jo Ann was born April 26, 1926 in Talpa, Texas and was a daughter of the late William Henry Williams and Lucy McQueen Williams. She grew up near Bead Mountain at Valera and attended school at Centennial. On June 28, 1943 she married
R. L. Baker in Coleman. She was the owner of Valera Truck Stop Cafe for many years. Her cafe was named one of the 10 best small cafes in Texas by Texas Monthly magazine. She was a member of the Assembly of God church.
Survivors include her husband, R. L. Baker of Valera, Texas; five daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and James Leonard of Brownwood, Brenda and Dwane Dyer of Coleman, Linda and Lee Moore of Santa Anna, Gwen and Colin Hobbs of Valera and Patricia Smith of Coleman; two sons and daughter-in-law, Randy Baker of Coleman and Gary Dan and Judy Baker of Brownwood; one brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Viola Williams of Brownfield; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Cliff Williams; a sister, Erman Campbell; a grandson, Gary Lee Moore and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Baker.
