BESSIE LOU THOMAS WOODARD, age 98, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 11, 2004. She was a resident of the Northwood Care Center in Marble Falls. Born on April 15, 1905 near Sanger, Texas, she was the daughter of Wade H. and Annie Simpson Thomas. In 1906, her family moved to Coleman County, where she lived for 92 years. She married
Henderson Allen Woodard on November 27, 1923 in Gouldbusk. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1980. She graduated from Coleman High School in 1923 and from beauty school in Abilene in 1950. She was a beautician for 32 years, owning Beauty Center and later Lou’s Beauty Salon. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church and moved to Marble Falls in August, 1997 to be near her son.
Survivors include her youngest sister, Juanita Taylor of Abilene; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Billie Jean Woodard of Odessa and Robert and Norma Woodard of Marble Falls; grandchildren, Gayle Alexander and husband Elmus of Granite Shoals, Ginger Rogers and husband Steve of Coppell; Steve Woodard and wife Teresa of Abilene; great-grandchildren, Dana Poindexter of Glendale, Arizona, Morris McManigal of Garland, Jana Dumas of Austin, Megan Alexander and Courtney Garcia of Granite Shoals, Kyle, Eric and Kurt Rogers of Coppell, Jim and Katherine Woodard of Abilene; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Glenn Thomas of Coleman.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Northway officiating. Mrs. Woodard will be buried next to her husband in the Coleman City Cemetey, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2004 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Thomas, Elmus Alexander, Steve Rogers, Kyle Rogers, Eric Rogers and Steve Woodard.
LEE WAYNE STRICKLAND, SR., age 77 of Coleman, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at Coleman County Medical Center. Graveside services with Military Honors will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the Voss cemetery Pavilion, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Strickland was born August 14, 1926 in Voss, the son of Percy Lee and Beaulah Loggins Strickland. He attended school at Voss and Mozelle. He served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving the Army Occupation Medal for Japan and Germany, American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. After serving in the Military, Mr. Strickland worked for Brown & Root, mainly in the Middle East and retired from Halliburton in the late 1980’s.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Wayne Strickland, Jr. of Shingle Springs, California, Maurice Strickland of Denton; two brothers, Arch Strickland of Gouldbusk, Guinn Strickland of Fort Worth; three sisters, Voncile Thomason of Gouldbusk, Mabel Blanton of Odessa, Reta Grusendorf of Spur and numerous, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Strickland.
Family visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Country or the American Cancer Society.
BERNIECE NEFF, age 86 of Coleman died Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Northway officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Neff was born July 8, 1917 in Coleman County, a daughter of Rogers "Doc" Keeney and Elvira Baker Keeney. She was raised in southern Coleman County and attended Mayo School. She married
Robert H. "Bob" Neff on January 26, 1940 in Coleman County. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1984. Mrs. Neff was a housewife and member of Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Jackie Kenney of Coleman; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Valeta Neff of Midland; one sister, Auba Dunham of Fort Worth; two sisters-in-law, Opal Keeney of Coleman and Louise Keeney of Fort Worth; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and one grandson.
Family visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dayton Neff, Reed Neff, Douglas Hagler, Jeff Tibbetts, Michael Loyd and Earon Monroe. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Frank Hyden, Jack Cockrell, Marci Grun, Dwain Grun and Matt Gaines.
CARTER L. DALTON, age 72, of Irving and formerly of Coleman County, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at a Georgetown Nursing Home. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. Ernest DeWald officiating. Burial will be in the Coleman City cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Dalton was born June 13, 1931 in Gouldbusk, a son of Samuel Horace Dalton, Sr. and Effie Clara Self Dalton. He was raised in Gouldbusk and Mozelle and graduated from Mozelle High School. He married
Grace Lognion in 1956 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He later married
Jeanette Vales in Oklahoma. Mr. Dalton moved to Dallas after high school and to Lake Charles in 1954. He moved to Irving in 1957. He owned a grocery store and a restaurant.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law Lee and Linda Dalton of Liberty Hill, Texas; two sisters, Imogene Evans of Denton, Anna Walker of Big Spring; three nephews, Sam Dalton and Ron Dalton both of Dallas, Joe Evans of Denton; two nieces Sharon Griffith of Denton, Regina Pitt of Crum, Texas; two grandchildren, Christopher Dalton and Jeremy Dalton both of Liberty Hill; ex-wife, Grace Lognion Dalton of Jennings, Louisiana and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam Dalton and Sidney Dalton and ex-wife, Jeanette Vales Dalton.
Family visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
LUCAS BRONTE GUERRERO ROW, infant, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at Coleman County Medical Center. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Gouldbusk cemetery with Dr. Charles Sheffield officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Survivors include his mother, Rachel Row of Coleman; his father, Johnny Guerrero, Jr. of Coleman; maternal grandparents, Steve and Mary Row of Coleman and Carmen and Morris Cox of Coleman; maternal great-grandparents, Joe and Joan Row of Coleman and Ward and LaVanda Lewis of Talpa; paternal grandparents, Johnny and Ramona Guerrero of Coleman; half-sister, Hannah Guerrero; several aunts and uncles.

ALBERT CECIL (A.C.) TILLMAN, age 84 of Coleman, died Sunday, February 8, 2004 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Sheffield officiating, assisted by Rev. Daniel Stovall. Burial will follow in the Coleman City cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Tillman was born March 13, 1919 in Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma, a son of A.H. Tillman and Sarah Whiles Tillman. He grew up and attended school in Oklahoma. He moved to Coleman in 1941 and met Doris Elena Dunn while working as an aircraft mechanic at the flying school in Coleman. They were married
on August 28, 1942 at the First Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He lived in Midland and Alice where he worked in the oil fields and in real estate, returning to Coleman after retiring in 1975. He taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Concho Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Tillman of Coleman; one son, Larry Tillman of Coleman; one sister and brother-in-law, Lillie and Cecil Moss of Seattle, Washington; two brothers, Joe M. Tillman of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Elmo Tillman of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Raymond Dunn and Burlie Dunn both of Midland, George Henry Dunn of Grand Prairie; four granddaughters, Lori Moran, and husband Jason, of Coleman, Krystle Tillman, Miranda Tillman and Amelia Tillman all of Fort Stockton; two great-granddaughters, Megan and Emely Moran of Coleman and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

BILLY M. COMEDY, age 77 of Abilene, and former Coleman resident, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan, Coleman, with Brother Mack Cason officiating, assisted by Rev. Edd Chappell. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Coleman City cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Comedy was born October 31, 1926 in Coleman, a son of James Melton Comedy and Willie Belle Smith Comedy. He grew up and attended school in Coleman. He served in the United States Army. He married
Clydene Cason on May 7, 1947 in Brownwood. At the age of 11, he went to work for Jettye Claire at the Democrat-Voice in Coleman. He published the Throckmorton Tribune for six years before moving to Haskell, where he published the Haskell Free Press for 21 years. He was involved with many community and civic organizations, including the Fire Departments in Coleman, Throckmorton and Haskell; Chamber of Commerce in Throckmorton and Haskell where he was president from 1985 to 1987; Lion’s Club in Throckmorton and the Rotary Club in Haskell and the Industrial Foundation in Haskell . He was a member of the Texas Press Association, West Texas Press Association and the First United Methodist Church in Haskell.
Survivors include his wife, Clydene Comedy of Abilene; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Don and Jeanine Comedy of Wichita Falls; two granddaughters, Jessica New and husband Josh of Minot, North Dakota, Jennifer Holmes and husband Staten of San Antonio; aunt Louise Smith of Los Angeles, California; niece Brenda Keenum and husband Jerry of Granbury; nephew Gary Comedy of Coleman and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William Marvin Comedy.
Family visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
PEGGY JOYCE HOHMANN, age 73 of Coleman died Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2004 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Rough Creek cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Peggy was born September 7, 1930 in Burnet, Texas, a daughter of Owen Knox Alexander and Jewel E. Hill Alexander. She grew up in Tow, Llano County and graduated from Llano High School. She married
Dayton E. Hohmann on October 23, 1948 in Tow and followed him everywhere during his Air Force career. They lived in Grand Prairie from 1965 to 1981, where Mrs. Hohmann was a member of the Grand Prairie Wife’s Club. They moved to Coleman in 1981. She was a life-long member of the Air Force Wife’s Club and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include her husband, Dayton E. Hohmann of Coleman, two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrel Lee and Ireanne Hohmann of Coleman, Richard Dale and Rebecca Hohmann of Mesquite; one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmie M. and Maurine Alexander of Boyce, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Alisha, Micheal, Walter, Christopher, Melanie, Jonathon and two great-grandchildren, Celeste and Joshua.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronny Len Hohmann.

NAOMA YVONNE TURNBOW, age 66 from Houston passed away Monday evening, February 16, 2004. Mrs. Turnbow was born September 23, 1937 in Burkett, Texas. She graduated from high school and attended cosmetology school. Naoma was owner and operator of her own hair salon, but her true love was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her father, Eldon A. Morgan. She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond Turnbow, I; mother, Lucille Morgan; sons, Raymond "Chay" Turnbow, II and wife Yvonne, Gary Turnbow and wife Michelle, Jeff Turnbow and wife Anita, Steve Turnbow and wife Sherry; grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas, Joshua, Jason, Taylor, Tyler, Chealsea, Jordan and Hanna and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Klein Funeral Home Chapel in Tomball, with Rev. Charles Lightle officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Burkett cemetery, Burkett, Texas. Burial will be under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas.
VERA MAY HEDDEN, age 88, of Coleman, died Thursday, February 19, 2004 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will follow at the Gouldbusk cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
She was born Vera May Fiveash on January 6, 1916 in Coleman County, Texas to the late John and Ruth Cowan Fiveash. She grew up in Coleman and Concho Counties where she also attended school. She later graduated from Jolly Beauty School in San Angelo. On April 3, 1943 she married
Gavaun "Dick" Hedden in San Angelo and he preceded her in death on March 6, 1991. Vera May lived in Abilene for a number of years and was a beautician. She returned to live in Coleman County in 1976 and was a member of Gouldbusk Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jacquelyn and Richard Lutz of Austintown, Ohio, Jerilyn and Chris Moore of Coleman and Cindy Jane Hedden of Austintown, Ohio; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gavaun and Carol Hedden of Rotan, Texas and Galaird Elbert "Gig" and Kerri Hedden of Lumberton, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Elbert and Ruby Fiveash and Jack and Doris Fiveash all of Eola, Texas, Wayne and Maurine Fiveash of Crockett, Texas and Dorothy Fiveash of Ballinger.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, J. B. Fiveash, Ed Fiveash and Rae Lester.
Her family will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.
