IRENE JAMES RYAN, age 87, of Coleman died Sunday (January 14, 2001) at Coleman Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment icon will be at Coleman cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ryan was born October 3, 1913 in Coleman County and was the daughter of Nathaniel and Willie Dancer James. She grew up in Valera and graduated from Valera High School in 1930 In January 1933 she married Nelson Ryan in Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on February 27, 1995. She attended Santa Anna Nursing School and worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for a number of years. She moved to Coleman in 1967 from Graham, Texas where she had lived for over 20 years. She was a Methodist.

Survivors include one son, Ross Ryan of Irving, Texas and one daughter, Nell Bass and husband Ronnie of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren, Suzanne Brockenbush of Irving, Texas and Mary Kay Smith of Hickory Creek, Texas; one great-grandson, Harrison Reed Smith; cousins, Marie Britton of Valera and Henry Miller and wife Merle of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Memorials may be made Holiday Hill Nursing Home, 245 State Highway 153, Coleman, Texas 76834.

ALFRED L. ESCOBAR, age 57, of Coleman died Monday (January 15, 2001) at the Veteran’s Hospital in Temple. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday (January 18, 2001) at the Coleman City cemetery with Rev. Marguerite Barboza officiating, assisted by Rev. Joe Frausto. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Escobar was born July 21, 1943 in Christine, Texas, a son of Lupe Escobar and Tomasa Lopez Escobar. He was raised and attended school in Christine, Texas. He joined the military at age 16 and served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. He married Anita Rosales on July 21, 1967 in Coleman. He worked the Coleman Livestock Auction as a yardman and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Escobar of San Antonio; one daughter, Gloria Escobar of San Antonio; two sons, Travis Escobar of Irving, Willie John Escobar of San Antonio; three sisters, Mary Castillo and Olivia Mungia both of Coleman, Fedelphia Blankenship of Stockton, California; two brothers, Willie Escobar and Gus Escobar both of Coleman; two grandchildren and several neices and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one nephew and one brother, John Escobar.

Allie Mae Jones, 76 of Coleman died Tuesday at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Burial will follow at Coleman cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Stevens Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones was born in 1924 in Glen Cove. She grew up in Glen Cove and attended New Central. In 1940 she married Oscar Earl Tate and he preceded her in death in 1965. She married Herman "Ike" Jones in 1969 in Coleman and he preceded her in death in 1999. She was an LVN and member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include: one daughter - Loretta Faye Burleson of Abilene; two step-children - Lonnie Jones and Linda Turner, both of Coleman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law - Glenn and Betty Jones of Coleman; sister-in-law - Ila Kirby of Coleman; one grandson; two step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson.

FAYE WILLIAMS, age 89, of Coleman died Saturday (January 20, 2001) at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Burial will follow at Coleman cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Williams was born July 21, 1911 in Gouldbusk, Texas and was a daughter of William Chapman Revel and Palma Lois Frasier Revel. She grew up in Gouldbusk and Shields and attended school at Shields. On July 4, 1928 she married Leonard Earl Williams in Santa Anna and he preceded her in death on May 27, 1966. She lived in Gouldbusk and moved to Coleman in 1966. She lived in Brownwood for two years while she attended Brownwood Nursing School. She was a Licensed Vocational Nurse and worked at Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital and Holiday Hill Nursing Home. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Esther Sunday School Class.

Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Lindly of Garland, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Ann Williams of Coleman; three sisters, Pauline Powers and Willie C. Gilbreath both of Coleman and Gerene Rowe of Lubbock; one brother, Weldon "Buddy" Revel of Canyon, Texas; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

JEAN CLARKE, age 75, of Brownwood, died Saturday (January 20, 2001) at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (January 25, 2001) at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Coleman with The Rev. Joan Rudolph officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Clarke was born December 20, 1925 in Lohn, McCulloch County, Texas and was the daughter of Delma Johnson and Tinia Trewitt Johnson. She grew up in Coleman where she gradated from high school and attended college at Texas Tech and Trinity University. She was retired from Arthur Young & Company in Dallas as a tax accountant. She lived in Fort Worth and Dallas and moved to Lake Brownwood in 1990 and to Brownwood four years ago. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Candis Mankin of Terrell, Texas and Tandalyn Howard of Bangs, Texas; five grandchildren, Lance McClure, Shad McClure, Camille Cline, Jeremy Howard and Jennifer Portillo; two step-grandchildren, Cory Howard and Casey Howard; four great-grandchildren, Monte Austin McClure, Colton McClure, Cohl McClure and Caden McClure; three brothers, Pat Johnson of Bangs, Don Johnson and Cecil Johnson both of Coleman.

VIVIAN BREVARD, age 93, of Canton and formerly of the Crews community, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001 in Tyler. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Glen Cove cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brevard was born October 17, 1907 in Crews, Texas and was a daughter of Millard Kerby and Elsie Morton Kerby. She grew up in the Crews community and attended school at Herring. On September 17, 1927 she married Clyde Miller Brevard in Ballinger and he preceded her in death on August 7, 1981. She moved to Canton in 1981 and was a homemaker. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church at Crews and after moving to Canton was a member of First Baptist Church there.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Noel and Bobbye Brevard of Winnie, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Neva and Marion Davis of Canton; one sister, Mildred Morrison of Sweetwater; four grandchildren, Debbie Smith, Gerald (and wife Joni) Brevard, Cindy (and husband Gary) Ferguson, and Cathy Davis; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion Kerby and Arthur Kerby.

Family visitation will be held Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

JIM A. ISBELL, age 69, of Coleman died at his residence Wednesday (January 24, 2001). Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday (January 26, 2001) at the Coleman City cemetery Pavilion. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mr. Isbell was born October 14, 1931, a son of William Wickerson Isbell and Mary Olean Royall Isbell. He grew up and attended schools in Littlefield, Texas. He married Doris Lee Franklin in Clovis, New Mexico on October 21, 1950. He later married Paula Simpson in 1976. Mr. Isbell moved to Coleman in November, 1972, and owned Isbell Used Cars and Wrecking Yard.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Lavelle and Mackie Walters of Coleman; fives sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Marye Isbell of Lubbock, Dannie and Sherry Isbell and Jimmy and Melody Isbell both of Hereford, Anthony Isbell and Lynn Isbell both of Coleman; one sister, Eura Royall of Coleman; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond Isbell of Coleman, J.C. and Shirley Isbell of St. James, Missouri; one step-son Loyd Parks, Jr.; two step-daughters, Lois Mitchell and Lori Parks; 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ruth Bell and four brothers, Jack, Thomas, Albert and Jessy Isbell.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday (January 25, 2001) at the funeral home.

MABLE P. SPARKMAN, age 92, died Wednesday (January 24, 2001) at Kingsland Health Care Center in Kingsland, Texas. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday (January 27, 2001) at the Coleman City cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sparkman was born March 12, 1908 in Coleman, a daughter of John Willie Dodgen and Birdie Mae Hipsher Dodgen. She was raised and attended schools in Coleman County. On October 23, 1946, she married Rev. Edwin King Sparkman in Coleman. She traveled with her husband, helping him during his ministry. She lived in Dallas for twenty years, where she worked as a bookkeeper and moved to Kingsland in 1993.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Frances Hatcher of Kingsland; one sister, Ruby Mae Clark of Coleman; one brother, Fred Alfred Dodgen of Coleman; one son-in-law, Weldon Brice of Kingsland; five grandchildren, Michael Gaylon Hatcher of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, Tedilu Darbyshire of Warsaw, Missouri, Sherry Brice of Abilene, Lori Exline of Mansfield, Texas, Mary Duran of Austin; four great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Patsy Jean Brice and one brother, Jesse Lee Dodgen.

Family visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday (January 26, 2001) at the funeral home.

CARL E. FAUBION, age 80, of Coleman, died Thursday (May 3, 2001) at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. G. Dean Coultas officiating. Burial will follow at Talpa cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Carl E. Faubion was born February 6, 1921 in Crews, Texas and was a son of Lonnie A. and Willie Miller Faubion. He grew up in Crews and graduated from high school there. He attended Howard Payne on a basketball scholarship and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Following the war, he returned to Crews where he farmed until becoming a rural mail carrier in Talpa, retiring after 34 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coleman and until his illness in 1997, he was active in the community.

Survivors include his wife, Edde May Faubion of Coleman; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Louwanda Faubion of Houston; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Pat McQueen of Brownwood; two step-daughters, Shariann (and husband Dub) Wallis of Coleman and Jeannette (and husband Gene) Alexander of Bedford, Texas; two brothers, Noble Faubion of Crews and Aubrey Faubion of Ballinger; three sisters, Lavinia Webb of Dallas, Elnita Tackett of Odessa, Texas and Nelda Thomason of Norton, Texas; five grandchildren, Staci Faubion, Shauna Nix, Stephanie Faubion, Shane Monroe, Shelley Monroe; five great-grandchildren;

He was preceded in death by Pearl Faubion, Sybil Faubion, Sam Faubion and Winona Goode.

EDITH JONES, age 98 of Coleman died Sunday (May 6, 2001) at Coleman County Medical Center. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (May 8, 2001) at Sipe [ pronounced SEEP ] Springs cemetery in Comanche County with Dr. Charles Sheffield officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jones was born January 3, 1903 in Comanche County, Texas, a daughter of James William Moore and Margaret Elizabeth McDaniel Moore. She graduated from May High School in May, Texas and Daniel Baker College in Brownwood, Texas. She married Rufe Oxford. He preceded her in death in 1967. She later married Lester Vernon Jones. He preceded her in death in 1970. She was a homemaker and a member of Concho Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Phillip Oxford of Coleman; six grandchildren, Johnny Oxford of San Angelo, Jerry Oxford of Norfolk, Virginia, Sharon Carter of San Angelo, David Oxford of Brownwood, Alan Oxford of Coleman and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Oma May Moore and Lavada Moore and four brothers, John Moore, William Moore, Archie Moore and Harvey Oxford.

CLAUDINE SHELTON, age 95, of Coleman, died Wednesday (May 9, 2001) at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. G. Dean Coultas officiating. Burial will follow at Stewardson cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shelton was born March 14, 1906 in the Hill Country and was a daughter of Cyrus E. and Bertha Frazier Evans. She moved to Coleman County 1907 and lived in the Shields community until moving to Coleman in 1969. On January 1, 1925 she married Edgar Shelton and he preceded her in death on May 7, 1994. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two grandsons, Mike (and wife Sally) Shelton of Fredericksburg, Texas and Randy Shelton of Carrollton, Texas; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Shelton Ludwick of Winters; one sister-in-law, Jeri Evans of Stephenville; three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

JAMES L. GOLSON, age 75, of Burkett, died Thursday (May 10, 2001) at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating. Burial will follow in Burkett cemetery.

Mr. Golson was born October 4, 1925 in Burkett, Texas, a son of James Wade Golson and Joanna Walker. He grew up in Burkett and graduated from Burkett High School in 1942. He graduated from Southwest Texas State with a Bachelor of Science Degree and two years later a Masters Degree. On August 24, 1951, he married Elizabeth Anne Word in San Marcos. He was an educator in Fort Stockton and Big Lake and was principal for 16 years in Bronte, retiring in 1975. Upon his retirement, he returned to Burkett. He had been a member of the Lions Club, Texas Association of School Principals, Texas State Teachers Association and Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of Burkett Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Liz Golson of Burkett; one son and daughter-in-law, Jake and Kathy Golson of Bloomfield, New Mexico; one daughter, Michelle Wilkowich of Coleman; three brothers, Pete Golson of Rankin, Joe Golson of Coleman and Roy Golson of San Antonio; one sister, Beth Kleiber of Burkett; six grandchildren, Misty Golson, Jacob Golson, Kala Golson, Kelsey Wilkowich, Logan Wilkowich and Wade Golson; one great-grandson, Mitchel Golson; numerous nieces and nephews.
