Arthur Torres, age 84 of San Angelo and former Coleman resident, died Monday, June 6, 2005 in a San Angelo nursing home. Funeral services are pending with Stevens Funeral Home.

Jo Ann Simpson, age 66 of Bangs, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are pending with Stevens Funeral Home.

Eva May Farmer, 79, of Austin passed away at her home on Wednesday night, December 29, 2004 after a lengthy illness.

She was born on August 13, 1925 in Coleman County, Texas, grew up on the Morris ranch, and moved to Austin in 1942 when she married her husband, Bill Farmer, who preceded her in death in 1999. She remained an Austin resident until her death. She was an employee of the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and retired in 1987.

She is survived by her son, Marlin Farmer and wife, Deedie; her daughter, Debra Barton and husband, Don; her sister, Nina Adylotte; her brother, Mickey Smith and wife, Gussie; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and many relatives. She was also preceded in death by her son, Arlin Farmer.

Eva was a woman who placed God first and foremost in her life. She was a devoted wife and mother, who truly cherished her family. She opened her home to numerous family members and friends through the years, and many viewed her as their "second mom". Her spiritual guidance was an inspiration to all who knew her. She spent her life devoting herself to the needs of others and always placed her needs last. She was a woman who you could always depend on. Eva had a wonderful sense of humor. Throughout her entire life she could always bring a smile to your face, and warmth to your heart. She was also an avid animal lover. She enjoyed the company of her cute pug dogs, and she will surely be missed by them. Our beloved mother is at peace with God after a very long illness. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Hans Haydon and his staff for their support during these past 8 years.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 1st from 7:00-8:30 pm at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 2, at 2:00 pm at Stevens Funeral Home. Chaplain John Swedlund officiating.

GIRLIE HAGLER, age 95, of Coleman, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 31, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pat McClatchy officiating and eulogy given by Kay Joffrion. Private interment will be in the Coleman City cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Girlie Hagler was born December 4, 1909 in Gouldbusk, Texas, a daughter of Robert L. and Ida Milam George. She grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. On December 26, 1929 she married Hall C. Hagler in Waurika, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on December 23, 1990. Girlie lived in many towns in Texas and moved to Coleman in 1972 from San Angelo. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley McDowell of Coleman; one granddaughter, Beverly and husband David Spillyards of Dallas; one great-grandson, Sam Spillyards of Dallas; step-granddaughters, Adele McDowell, Anne McDowell and husband Kevin Flanagan all of Connecticut: several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Bob Searcy, Jr. and a brother, Walter George.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Humane Society.

Family visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman

EVELYN SHIELDS, age 71, long-time Odessa resident, died Saturday, September 10, 2005 at River Springs Health Care Center in San Marcos, Texas. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 12 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Santa Anna cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas.

She was born Evelyn Joyce Arthur on November 11, 1933 in Santa Anna, Texas, a daughter of Mildred J. Williams Arthur and the late William Preston Arthur. She grew up in Santa Anna where she attended school. On January 28, 1949 she married Robert Shields in Santa Anna and he preceded her in death on November 5, 1997. She lived in Odessa for 40 years and was a secretary/bookkeeper for a grocery store. She had lived in San Marcos for the past two years. She was Baptist and had been a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the VFW in Odessa.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Lynn and Kaye Shields of Austin, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Mike Hoagland of Austin, Texas; her mother, Mildred Arthur of San Marcos, Texas; five grandchildren, Jennifer Shields Holling, Ben Shields, Carrie Roberts, Haylee Hoagland, Robbie Hoagland; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Shields, Nicholas Austin, Dylan Hawk Holling; two brothers, Jerry Arthur of Junction, Texas, J. W. Arthur of Jasper, Texas; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Tylene Wright, Edith Gilbert, Leona and Mark Frazee, Leo and Louise Shields.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Eunice Iola Terry, age 92, of Coleman, died Thursday, September 8, 2005 in Coleman. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Frasier officiating. Eunice Iola Terry was the first of five children of Leonard Washington Stevens and Frankie Marion (Alexander) Stevens. She was born in Copperas Cove, Texas on February 14, 1913. The family moved to Coleman County in 1914, to the home place on Jim Ned Creek. She lived most of her life in Coleman County and grew up on the family farm. Iola attended school at Camp Colorado, carrying her lunch in a syrup bucket. When the creek was high, she, her sister and brothers rode their horse, named Old Nellie, to get across the creek so they would not get wet. She married Oscar Hill (Top) Terry, Jr. on July 23, 1933 in Coleman County. The have four children: Margie R. Smith, Frankie R. Quinn, Oscar H. Terry, III and Donnie D. Terry.

She and Top farmed, raised turkeys, chickens and had three different dairy farms. They also had a sweet potato farm at Rochester, Texas. Iola worked alongside Top in all of these endeavors. She was a wonderful cook, kept house and raised their children. She loved having a garden and growing flowers. She had a real green thumb. Tomatoes and squash were her favorite. Iola was an avid collector. She had a rock collection that was never ending. In her 90’s she was still hunting rocks. She sewed and made most of her children’s clothes. At one time she made beautiful western shirts for the men in the family and her friends.

Iola like to travel and she made several trips to Colorado and California. A great love of hers was her handmade quilts. She made all her family members quilts. There are pictures of 30 of her quilts and some she didn’t make pictures of and some she made more than one of the same kind. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren have a quilt hand stitched by her. The last quilt she made was in 1999 for her first great-great grandson. Iola was a Baptist, a volunteer at the Coleman Senior Center and worked for Concepts of Care as a home health provider.

Iola was preceded in death by her husband Top in March 1974; a grandson Marlon Hill Terry; her brothers Boyd L. Stevens, Aaron R. Stevens; a sister Louise Altman. She is survived by two sons, Donnie Terry of Coleman, Texas and Oscar Terry of Grand Junction, Colorado; two daughters, Frankie Quinn of Abilene, Texas and Margie Smith of Midland, Texas; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Winifred A. (Dell) Stevens of Coleman, Texas.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.

Family visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 13, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Rev. Carlton Earp, age 65, died Friday, August 12, 2005 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 15 at North Park Assembly of God Church, 1918 Jameson, Abilene with Rev. J. C. Amburn officiating and assisted by Rev. Ted Miller. Burial will follow in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

He was born Carlton Dell Earp on June 11, 1940 in Abilene, Texas, a son of Homer Samuel Earp, Jr. and Ruby Richards Earp. He grew up in Merkel and Abilene, graduating from Abilene High School in 1958. He attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College for two years before transferring to McMurry College (now University) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with a Master of Arts degree. Carlton pastored Pentecostal churches in Illinois, California and Texas. At the time of his death he was pastor of the Foursquare Church in Hamlin, Texas. He married Charlotte West Adkins on June 23, 1996 in Abilene. He was a member of Phi Rho Pi and Phi Alpha Theta and had previously served on the board of Hebron Fiber Optics Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Earp of Abilene; two sons, Charles and wife Teresa Earp of Chicago, Illinois, John Edwin and wife Jaime Earp of Ypsilanti, Michigan; two daughters, Traci and husband Dawuni Issah of Irving, Texas, Ruth Allton of Carrollton, Texas; one brother, Rev. Sam and wife Shari Earp of Abilene; two sisters, Sandra and husband Henry Bayne of Abilene, Lana and husband Ronny Kading of Coleman; nine grandchildren, Melissa Earp, Christopher Earp, Chloe Earp, Josiah Earp, Alexa Earp, Evan Earp, Hope Issah, Harrison and Hunter Allton; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ed Earp, in 1967.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14 at Adams Funeral Home in Hamlin from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. An additional visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at North Park Assembly of God Church in Abilene.

PATRICIA GUY ORTIZ, age 50, of Coleman, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005 in Coleman. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 15 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dick Schultz officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Patricia Guy on December 11, 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of Dorothy Sexton Guy and the late John Guy. She grew up in Petersburg, Virginia where she attended school. She was married to Bennie Sendejas and he preceded her in death on January 21, 1994. She moved to Coleman twelve years ago and was a homemaker. She grew up in the Baptist church.

Survivors include two daughters, Karla Jane Morris of Eunice, NM and Patricia Ellen Ortiz of Coleman; her mother, Dorothy Guy of Coleman; five grandchildren, Megan, Michael, Joseph, Katie, Monica; three brothers, Daryl Leroy Guy of Virginia, Gary Lynn Guy of Jacksonville, FL and David Payton Guy of Coleman; one sister, Johna Sue Aechternacht of Rockett, TX; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Colleen Moore in 1997.

Family visitation will be held on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.

Willard Orville Allen, 76, of Santa Anna, Texas died Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at Canyon Lake, Texas. A Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Anna with Pat McClatchy and Gary Boyd officiating. The body will be cremated. Cremation is under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas.

He was born on March 24, 1929 in Coleman County, Texas to Orville Slaton Allen and Bertha Copeland Allen. He grew up in Coleman County, raised cattle and sold ranching equipment. He married Jo Ann Hambright on February 22, 1949 in Coleman. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Anna, member of the Gideons worked with 4-H and F.F.A. and was Coleman County Commissioner of Precinct 1.

He is survived by his wife: Jo Ann Allen of Santa Anna; three sons, Miles Allen of Florence, Tom Allen of Big Spring and Russell Allen of Andrews; one daughter: Melody Griffith of Alvord; one brother: James Allen of Santa Anna; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren

LaNell Williams, age 56, of Coleman, died Friday, August 5, 2005 at Coleman County Medical Center. Graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, August 8 at Shields cemetery with Paul Hayes officiating and assisted by Sam Wilson. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born LaNell Lewis on September 17, 1948 in Lamesa, Texas, a daughter of Lowell Burton Lewis and Tennie Viola Gilmore Lewis. She grew up in Eastland County and attended school at Carbon. She lived in Eula from 1972 until 1992 when she moved to Coleman. On March 25, 1993 she married Johnny L. Williams in Brownwood. She was a housewife and a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny L. Williams of Coleman; one son, Donnie Culwell and wife Rhonda of Sylvester; two daughters, Kathy Mays and husband Tony of Clyde, Kristi Williams and husband Jimmy of Coleman; step-son, Jason Williams of Abilene; step-daughter, Joy White and husband Bobby of Odessa; one brother, Ward Lewis and wife Lavonda of Talpa; one sister, Lorene Lewis of Jonestown; mother-in-law, Pauline Williams of Coleman; five grandchildren, Joshua Mays, Colton Mays, Quaid Mays, Kaci Williams, Coby Williams; three step-grandchildren, Tyler Nevels, Ashlea Nevels, Cameron White; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Polk, in 2005.

Family visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Darrell Wayne Johnson, age 48 of Hawley, passed away Monday, July 25, 2005 at his home from cancer. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2005 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Posey officiating. Burial will be in the Coleman City cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Best known as "Tot" and "Boy", Darrell was born April 24, 1957 in Coleman, the son of Harvey and Frances Horton Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Coleman. He married Kathy Baldock on December 1, 1978 in Coleman. He worked at Dal-Tile and in the oil field as a floor hand. He lived in Brownwood before moving to Hawley. He was a loving husband, Daddy and PaPaw and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Johnson of Hawley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Veronica and Wade Tucker of Hawley, Chrystle and Richard Steffey, Jr. of Coleman; four brothers, Larry Johnson and wife Donna, of Coleman, Bobby Johnson of Coleman, Earl Johnson and wife Cindy, of Coleman, Jimmy Johnson and wife Denise of Coleman; two sisters, Carolyn Payne and husband Gary, of Coleman, Linda Burton and husband Chris, of Coleman; two granddaughters, Shantel Tucker, Christy Steffey of Coleman; several aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father on March 2, 2005, his mother on April 5, 2005, one sister and two brothers.
