Lola Pettigrew Morehouse
Lola Pettigrew Morehouse went home peacefully to be with our Lord on May 19, 2003.
Visitation will be held at Aubrey Fife Funeral Home Wednesday, May 21, from 6-8 p.m. with morning services at 10 a.m., May 22, at Hill Country Baptist Church. Interment icon will follow in Junction cemetery.
Lola was an active member of the Hill Country Baptist Church. She was born June 29, 1926, the second of twin girls to Elmer and Fannie Pettigrew in London.
She attended school in London before moving to Junction to finish in 1943. Lola was employed by Royal Sun Alliance in San Francisco, California, where she met and married Milton Morehouse in December, 1953. Milt preceded her in death in 1964. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Viola Walker and one brother, Henry Pettigrew.
She is survived by three sisters, twin Lila Lloyd and Faye Haines, both of Junction and Dorothy Pudinski of Sacramento, California; one brother, Lee Pettigrew of Desdemona and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are under the direction of Aubrey Fife Funeral Home.

Rita Faye Gephart White
Rita Faye Gephart White, 74, of London, passed away August 14, in Dunedin, New Zealand, where she was residing with her son James and his family.
Born to Lee and Myrtle Gephart, Rita graduated from Junction High School in 1943, at the age of 14 years. At age 15 she was living and working as a secretary in Austin. She graduated from Trinity University and married Charles White of San Antonio.
Following a period at the University of Wisconsin, they moved to California where they taught school and played active roles in securing rights, such as maternity leave, for teachers.
Their son, James Daniel Lee White (JHS class of 1976), was born in California. In 1973 the family returned to Kimble County and made their home on land below Yates Crossing that had been in the Gephart family since the 1880’s, close to her brother, L.D. Gephart.
After Charles’ death in 1990, Rita stayed active enjoying nature, learning new things, and helping others learn. Fiercely independent, she spent many hours propagating wildflowers, listening to her birds, working with the library, and playing a “friendly, not cutthroat” game of bridge. As her son James move around the world, she welcomed the chance to go to the new places, to see and learn about the rocks, trees, and oceans so different from her native Kimble County.
She left in the New Zealand Spring, with sprigs of the first flowering plum trees and early rhododendrons gracing her room with birds in full courtship song outside.
Her death followed a fight with cancer. She remained concerned for other people ahead of herself to the end.
She is survived by her son, James White; daughter-in-law, Linda; and granddaughter, Lee, of New Zealand; her brother, L.D. Gephart, and wife, Myrna, of London, and by many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 21, at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction. The family requests that donations to the Cancer Society or the Kimble County Library be made in lieu of flowers.

Rosie Elsie Smith
Rosie Elsie Smith, longtime Junction resident, died Thursday, August 21, in Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.
Born February 14, 1923, Rosie was a lifetime resident of Junction, moving to Junction when she was just two months old.
Rosie’s love of life and fierce faith in her Lord will forever live in our hearts. Our “Granny” Rosie loved the outdoors, especially fishing with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
We will all miss Rosie tremendously, but we are comforted by our faith that she is healed and is with her children in Heaven. “God bless you, Granny, and we love you.”
Survivors include a sister, Ruby Kinman; brothers, Damon Evans and Junior Evans; granddaughter, Kathy Evans and husband, Charles, of Snyder; grandson, Stanley Dean Kolpak, Jr. and wife, Amber, of San Antonio and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held in Junction cemetery Saturday, August 23, under the direction of Gentry-Fife Funeral Home. Condolences to the family may be sent to www.aubreyfifefunerals.com

Alton Stuart Kirkpatrick
Alton Stuart Kirkpatrick of Leakey, was born February 3, 1920, in Segovia and passed away on August 18, 2003.
He graduated from Junction High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. It was during this time, while stationed in Philadelphia, that he met and married his wife, Bette.
Alton was a well known rancher in Kimble, Edwards and Real County for many years. In his retirement years he worked during the summer at Garner State Park greeting visitors at the front gate, maintaining these visitors as friends for many years. He was a long time member of the Leakey Lions Club, the American Legion and long time supporter of the Real County 4-H, FFA and Jr. Horse Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis Burleson Kirkpatrick and Clemmie Taylor Kirkpatrick.
He is survived by his wife Bette Thompson Kirkpatrick. He is also survived by his sister, Audrey Tomberlin, and two brothers, Vernon Harry and Lloyd Burleson Kirkpatrick and Lloyd’s children, Linda Brice of Leakey and Tom and Tracey Kirkpatrick of Houston; five grandchildren, Douglas and Shonda Brice of Leakey, Amanda and Neville Triplett of Boerne, Carson, Connor and Lillian Kirkpatrick of Houston and three great-grandchildren, Wade Brice of Leakey, and Chelsea and Brice Triplett of Boerne.
One of the joys of his life was watching his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren grow and develop their unique personalities.
Services were held on Friday, August 22, at 2 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home in Leakey. Interment icon followed at the Leakey Floral cemetery.

Inez Mozelle Benton
Inez Mozelle Benton, 78, of Menard, died Monday, September 8, in Junction.
Funeral services were held September 11, at 10 a.m. under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home of Menard, with burial in Rest Haven cemetery. Suzanne Brantley officiated.
Inez was born February 7, 1925, in Kimble County to Thomas Jefferson and Lilly McKenna Wooten. She married Ray Benton on July 9, 1944. She was a Methodist and worked as a secretary and office manager. She was a retired employee of Heritage Funeral Home and Metropolitan Life.
She is survived by two sons, Ray Owen Benton and wife, Judy, of San Angelo and David Benton of San Antonio; one daughter, Patricia Bir and husband, Tony, of San Antonio; one granddaughter, Andrea Bir of Bosier City, Louisiana; one grandson, Marc Bir and wife, Lisa, of San Angelo; one great-granddaughter, Gabriella Bir; one great-grandson, Samuel Ray Bir of San Angelo; one sister, Yvonne Parker, and husband, John, of Junction; Peggy Decker, JoAnn Crowell and husband, Mickey, Norma and Daniel Murray; Laverne and Jim Bob Benton; Joy Faye Benton all of Menard; Lawrence and Edna Benton of Mason; sisters-in-law, Zenobia Wooten and Dixie Wooten of Junction; Doxie Wootan, Barbara Wooten of Bryan/College Station, numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Benton; brothers, Pat, JD, Frank, Don, and Charlie Wooten; sisters, Alberta Nelson and Bertha Kothmann.
The family requests donations or memorials to the Menard Library Fund or the charity of your choice.

Felton Riley Conner
Mr. Felton Riley Conner, age 67, of London, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2002, in San Antonio.
Felton was born in Mertzon on July 17, 1935, to Glenn and Ethel Conner. He moved to Junction with his family when he was two years old. A graduate of Junction High School in 1954, Felton worked with his father in concrete construction until 1969, and he served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1953 until 1962.
On April 20, 1963, Felton was married to Julia Faye Keese in Junction. They spent one year in east Texas, two years in El Paso, and eighteen years in the Texas panhandle where he worked in road construction. Felton and Faye returned to the Junction area in August of 1991 where he worked for Kimble County in road maintenance until his retirement in 2001.
Mr. Conner was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Billie Jean Floyd and Doris Dell Conner, and a brother, Edward Conner.
Survivors include his wife of thirty nine years, Faye Conner of London; three daughters, Julia Rene Reynolds and husband, Mike, of Hobbs, New Mexico, Diana Faye Conner of San Angelo and Susan Lynette Carlile and husband, James, of Hobbs, New Mexico; two brothers, Melvin Conner and wife, Joselyn, and Cecil Conner and wife, Donleta, all of Junction; a sister, Darlene Pilkington of San Angelo; a sister-in-law, Geneva Conner of Junction; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 5, at the London Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Jeffers officiating. Burial will follow in the London cemetery. Viewing will be at Graham Funeral Home Thursday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday morning.

Ernest Lloyd Dunbar
Ernest Lloyd Dunbar, 66, a ten year resident of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002. He was born Jan. 9,1936, in Junction, to James B. and Ella Annis (Henderson) Dunbar.
Ernest served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Roofer's Union No. 47 in Sacramento, Calif.
He is survived by his wife of ten years, Erika Dunbar of Sierra Vista; sons,Stewart Shull and wife, Teddi, of Velijo, Calif., and Charles Shull and wife, Stefanie, of Newton, Mass.;daughters, Kathleen Shull of Benson, Ariz., Stephanie Jones and husband, Lloyd, of Cottonwood, Ariz., and Sandra Derdall and husband, James of Chesapeake, Va.; sister: Jamie Annis Brite of Telegraph; brother, Jerry Don Dunbar and wife, Patricia, of Hereford, Ariz.; aunt, Tommye Dean Jobes of Junction; 12 grandchildren and four nieces and nephews.
The family would respectfully suggest that memorial donations be made, in Ernest's name, to the American Heart Association Southern Arizona Division, 5325 E. Pima, Tucson, AZ., 85712.
Funeral services were held at 11 a m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at Jensen's Sierra Vista Mortuary.
Interment was at Cochise Memory Gardens in Sierra Vista. Arrangements were entrusted to Jensen's Sierra Vista Mortuary.

Henry F. Montgomery
Henry F. Montgomery, 75, of Junction, passed away December 9, 2002, in San Antonio. Visitation was held Thursday, December 12 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Aubrey Fife Funerals. Funeral services were held Friday, December 13, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Aubrey Fife funerals with burial following in Junction cemetery.
Henry was born April 1, 1927, in Georgetown. He worked general labor and was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

William ‘Bill’ Warren Strode
William “Bill” Warren Strode, 72, of Junction, passed away Friday, December 13, 2002, at Hill Country Care Center.
Bill was born in Vidor on December 11, 1930, and was a resident of Junction for 14 years. He was a welder.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Strode of Junction.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 20, at Graham Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Graham officiating.
Services are under the direction of Graham Funeral Home.

Helen Hardin McCombs
Helen McCombs, 77, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at Merrill Gardens in Hobbs, New Mexico.
She was born in Junction on September 15, 1925 and graduated from Junction High School. She moved to San Antonio to work at Kelly Air Force Base, where she met and married Earn “Mac” McCombs on November 9, 1946. They moved to Hobbs in 1946 and that remained her home until her death.
Her mother, Flora Hardin Moore, her husband, and her brother, Holbert Hardin, preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were December l6 at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. The Rev. Bryan Simpson officiated. Burial followed in Memory Gardens.
Those attending from Junction were Milton Powell, Louise White, Laverne Hardin and Hardy Hardin.
She was survived by two daughters, Sherry Busch and her husband, Jeff, of Hobbs, N.M. and Jan Buttram and her husband, Jim, of Raton N.M.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Jesus Antonio Menchaca
Jesus Antonio Menchaca, 75, of Junction, passed away December 27, 2002, in Round Rock. Funeral services were held Monday, December 30, at 2 p.m. in St. Theresa Catholic Church in Junction. Burial was in Little Mexico cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Aubrey Fife Funerals.
Mr. Menchaca was born in Kimble County December 24, 1927. He retired from the Texas Highway Department after 37 years of service, and was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Maria, of Junction; two daughters, Cindy Mendez and husband, Ramon, of Round Rock and Rebecca Sanchez, also of Round Rock; two brothers, Vicente Menchaca of Junction, and Andres Menchaca of San Antonio; one grandson, Rodolfo Sanchez of Round Rock and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Joe Hernandez, Edward Menchaca, Apolonio Menchaca, Rodolfo Sanchez, Monty Espinosa and Ricky DeLos Santos. Honorary pallbearers were Rogelio Menchaca, Oscar Menchaca, Nino Torres, Hector Menchaca, Evers Schmidt, A.J. Ivy, Richard Horne, and Les Williams.

James Edward ‘Eddie’ Clifton
James Edward "Eddie" Clifton, age 47, of Junction, died Sunday, December 22, 2002, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 27, at Graham Funeral Home with the Rev. Cecil Conner officiating. Burial followed in the Junction cemetery.
Pallbearers were Larry Clifton, Douglas Carroll, Jacob Carroll, Larry Clifton, Jr., Bobby Murr and Lloyd Powers.
Mr. Clifton was born in Cleves, Ohio, on September 12, 1955. He worked for Chem-Pac.
Eddie was preceded in death by his father, James W. Clifton, a brother, Red Clifton and a sister, Mary Clifton.
Survivors include his mother, Sylvia Dean Clifton of Junction; two brothers, Kenny Clifton of Ohio and Larry Clifton of Junction; five sisters, Linda Grant of Ohio, Cathy Lewis of Houston, Becky Baker of Ohio, and Peggy Carroll and Patricia Clifton, both of Junction; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
