Carlton Crouch
Carlton Crouch 82, son of Ernest and Della Crouch, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 30, 2003, in a Kerrville Hospital.
Mr. Crouch was born in Kimble County on March 14, 1921. He grew up in Mason and lived there most of his life.
He married Billie Louise Ake on April 20, 1942, in Mason, before leaving to serve his country in July of 1942. After three years serving his country, he returned to Mason to find his family and friends and to begin to build a life for his new family.
Mr. Crouch was employed by the City of Mason for 32 years, serving as city manager for 27 years.
He was a member of Spring Street Gospel Church where he was baptized by Pastor Jordan in the Llano River in Mason.
In 1996 Mr. Crouch and his wife moved to Marble Falls to reside with their daughter’s family.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Billie Louise Crouch; one son, Frankie Crouch and wife, Julie; one daughter, Dorothy Butler and husband, Mike; four grandchildren, Sharla, Carl and Steven Crouch, and Michael Butler; one great-grandchild Brandon Crouch, and honored friends Sue Eckert, Mildred Walker and Patty Grote. He is survived also by Jeff Gentry of Junction.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Durst, in the year of 1999.
Visitation for the family was held Sunday, June 1, at Aubrey Fife Funerals.
Funeral services were Monday, June 2, 2003, in Spring Street Gospel Church in Mason and burial in Gooch cemetery under the direction of Aubrey Fife Funeral Home.
Pall bearers were Jerry Crouch, Sammy Crouch, Doug Crouch, Harold Gentry, Kelley Ake, Jodie Ake and Chris Ake. Honorary pall bearers were J.D. Leifeste, Jack Crouch, Jesse Cavness, and Butch Leifeste.
Memorials can be made to the South Texas Health Care System Kerrville Division, 3600 Memorial Blvd., Kerrville, Tx. 78028.

Martha Alice (Goldie) Lay
Martha Alice (Goldie) Lay, 93, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2002.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 8, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the London cemetery.
She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. Martha was a teacher for many years in the Douglas, Arizona, school system. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother and a dear friend. May her memory serve us always as a blessing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Byron Lay, and is survived by her sister, Eunice Dayton of London; her sister-in-law, Victoria Lay of Kingsville; her five children; Thomas, William and wife, Cheryl, Charles Barry, Deborah Hilcove and husband, Philip and Amanda Brenden and husband, Lloyd; eleven grandchildren: Geoffrey, Kristin, Mark, Brittney Clark and husband, John, Rebecca Redman, Barry, Cindy Lindblom and husband, Buddy, Suzy Williams and husband, Dani, Michael Hilcove, Andrea Hilkovitz, and Sarah Smith and husband, Ryan; nine great-grandchildren; Aubrey and Adrianne Ollivares, Andrew Clark, Dylan and Chloe Redman, Gabe and Daniel Lindblom, Monique and Jordan Williams; one great-great-grandchild, Ricky Ordonez; and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by Aubrey Fife Funerals of Junction.

Robert Wayne Anderson
Robert Wayne Anderson, 31, formerly of Mason, died May 18, 2003. Services were at Grace Fellowship Church of Mason Wednesday, May 21, at 10 a.m. with interment following at Cavaness cemetery. Family visitation was at the church from 6 until 8 pm. Tuesday, May 20. Arrangements were by Aubrey Fife Funerals.
He is survived by his wife Sherrie; daughters, Madison and Sydney; step-sons, Justin and Aaron Oxford; his parents, Margie Wilson of Mason and Wayne Anderson of Tow; sister, Crystal Haley of Rockdale; grandparents Imagene and Dennie Jackson of Mason and Josephine Anderson of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Eddie Ray Dockal and Winnie Anderson.
Pallbearers were Robert Leatherwood, Bob Chapman, Charles Herbst, Michael Zavala, Mitchell McGowan, Tom Dockal, Shane Haley and Allen Marshall.
Robert was born March 5, 1972, in Austin. He was a student of Mason ISD for 12 years and graduated from Rockdale High School in 1991. He and Sherrie married July 26, 1997, in Mason. He loved spending time with his daughters. Robert was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He was employed by Pedernales Electric Cooperative.

Mary Vieve Reed
Mary Vieve Reed, 84, of Mason, died Monday, May 19, 2003, in Junction.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 22, at 2 p.m., in the Leatherwood Memorial Chapel in Brady with interment at Lohn cemetery, in Lohn. Brother Denny Ray Jackson officated. Pallbearers were her grandsons.
Mary was born on April 14, 1919, in Red Oak to Worth Rockett Smith and Angelina Sophronia Knotts Smith. She married John Richard Bailey in Menard, and later married Donald Reed in Llano in 1986. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mason and lived in Mason for almost 40 years. Mary was a homemaker and loved camping, music, reading and painting.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, John Richard Bailey in 1984 and Donald Reed in 1989, one daughter, Mary Alice Bailey and two brothers.
She is survived by two sons, Johnnie Lorance “Hoby” Bailey and wife, Ivy Lee, of Mason and Richard Earl Bailey of Junction; two daughters, Angela Arlene Awtrey and husband, Robert Joe, of Junction and Carolyn Bernice Airheart and husband, Gordon Gail, of Mason; one brother, Vernon Lorance Smith and wife, Mary, of Gorman; two sisters, Bernice Ruth Ellis and Wanda Lee Degal, both of Brady. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Larry Jones
Larry Jones, 59, of Llano, died May 22, 2003, in Llano. Graveside services were held Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Llano City cemetery with Rev. Michael Orsini officiating.
Larry was born July 9, 1943, in Junction, and married Sylvia Gordon March 7, 1969, in Ozona. He was a mapper, appraiser in the computer department of the Llano County Appraisal District. Larry was raised a Baptist and had lived in Llano since 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia (Susie); one son, Duane Jones and wife, Kelley; two daughters, Jerri Kaye Majkszak and and husband, Kerry, and Kelli Baugh-Tudyk and husband, Martin, all of Llano; two brothers, Jimmie Jones of Lometa and Carroll Jones of Granite Shoals; two sisters, Louise Fleming of Kingsland, and Nita Miller of Llano; five grandchildren, Daniel Hipp, Dustin Jones, Grant Jones, Avery Tudyk and Lauren Tudyk; one great-granddaughter, Kyla Hipp and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were his many close friends and family.
Arrangements were under the direction of Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Homes, Inc.

Patricia Haines Smith
Patricia Diana Haines Smith, 50, passed away May 24, 2003, at her home in Junction.
She was born January 14, 1953, to Ida Faye and Leonard Haines in Junction.
Patricia is survived by twin boys, Kody Smith of Junction and Korey Smith of Winchel; one daughter, Diana Faye Smith of Junction; her mother, Ida Faye Haines of Junction; two sisters, Carolyn Peyton of Bryan and Brenda Massey of Winchel; one brother, Leonard Dell Haines of Harper, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Haines; one nephew, Nickey Haines; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pettigrew and Mr. and Mrs. Earley Haines. Graveside services were held, Sunday, May 25, in the Junction cemetery at 2 p.m.
Pall bearers were her nephews.
Arrangements were under the direction of Aubrey Fife Funerals.

William Raymond “Billy” Allen
William Raymond “Billy” Allen passed away on Friday, November 29, 2002.
Billy was born in Kerrville, on November 26, 1923, to Lewis Raymond and Anabel Dickey Allen. He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse on the Allen Ranch and graduated from Junction High School in 1941. While in high school, he participated in football and basketball and in the Future Ranchers of America, where he was a member of the livestock judging team. He was the high point individual in both the state and national livestock judging championships in 1941. Following graduation from high school, he attended Texas A&M; until volunteering for the United States Army in 1943. He was an Army infantryman in World War II, serving 17 months in the Pacific Theatre and earning numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts.
Following his discharge from the Army on Christmas Day, 1945, he returned to Kimble County where he was a rancher until his death.
He served his community in many capacities, including as the first president of the Hill Country Fair Association, president of the Junction Eagle Booster Club and director of the Kimble County Youth Show. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and had served the church as both elder and trustee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Ann Allen Grubbs. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Mansfield Allen, by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Cathy of Dallas and Bob and Laurrie of Junction; by four grandchildren, Stacy, Trisha, K.K. and Bill, and by a nephew and niece, Allen Grubbs and Georgia Grubbs Billingsley.
He was a quiet, honest man with a sharp sense of humor and a great love for his family and for the land.
Services were held on Sunday, December 1, at the First Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers were Randy Allison, Charles Hagood, Jack Hoggett, Teddy Holekamp, Archie Lennon, Bill McMillian, Hayden Woodard and Preston Wright.
Memorials may be made to Kimble County Hospital or any local charity.

Bert Timms
Bert Timms, 61, of Junction died November 27, 2002, in Shannon Hospital in San Angelo. Graveside services were held Saturday, November 30, at 2 p.m. in Junction cemetery with the Rev. Cecil Conner officiating.
Survivors include five sons: Bert Timms, Jr., of Junction; Ray Timms and wife, Connie, of Austin; Cody Timms and wife, Tonya, of Menard; Dwayne Timms of San Antonio, and Levi Timms of Eden; one daughter, Doris “Dee Dee” Whitlock and husband, Bobby, of Junction; two brothers: Nick Timms, and Danny Timms, both of Junction; three sisters, Doris Sellers of Falfurrias, Nina Gentry and Alma Young both of Junction; 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Ray Timms, Dwayne Timms, Bobby Whitlock, Cody Timms, Levi Timms and Jeffrey Timms.
Services were under the direction of Aubrey Fife Funerals.

Alma Louise Ward
Alma Louise Ward, 82, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, in the First Baptist Church of Claude with the Rev. Truman Ledbetter, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Clarendon, and Edwin Campbell, of Clarendon, officiating. Burial followed in the Claude cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
She was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Sonora, Sutton County, to Stacy Pinkny Glasscock and Rhoda Dollye Stokes Glasscock. She had been a resident of Claude most of her life.
She had resided at the Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude since June 2001 and considered the residents and staff her extended family. She married Jack Ward in December of 1947. He preceded in death on July 3, 1994.
During her early life she was very involved in the activities of her children and was a longtime 4-H leader. She was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church of Claude.
Pallbearers were Stacy Don Ward, Roy Dale Cooper, Bryan Matthews, Doodie Tyler, Wayne Tyler and Jack Fields.
Survivors include three daughters, Janet Cooper and husband Johnny of Clarendon, Beth Smith of Junction, and Jackie Matthews and husband David of Amarillo; a son, Stacy Ward of Amarillo; two stepchildren, Patricia Bradbury and Jerry Ward of Kilgore; a brother, Roy B. Glassock of Odessa; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude.

William Hawkins (Bill) Cabeen
William Hawkins (Bill) Cabeen, 84, of Junction passed away Sunday, November 24, 2002, at his home.
He was born in Missouri on March 6, 1918, to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wallace Cabeen of San Antonio.
Bill spent his early years in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While attending Arizona State University in Tempe, he married fellow student Dorothy Mclaughlin on July 21, 1940.
Although he taught flying for a time, at heart, Bill was an old-fashioned cowboy who spent many happy years ranching in Arizona. His love of God and his fellow man motivated him to accept an assignment as a traveling minister of Jehovah's Witnesses and from 1971-81. He and Dottie served Spanish speaking congregations in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
Kerrville became their home in 1981 followed by Junction in 1992.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dottie, of Junction and many, many friends locally, as well as across the southwest and eastern U.S. who loved him dearly and will miss him very much.
Arrangements were under the direction of Graham’s Funeral Home.

Tempie Boone McLendon Reynolds
Mrs. Tempie Boone McLendon Reynolds, age 92, of Junction, passed away Friday, March 5, 2004, at Kimble Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Tempie was born in Kimble County on November 26, 1911, to J.W. and Mary Boone. She was raised on the banks of the South Llano River along with her five brothers and three sisters. She attended Junction schools where she played basketball, being selected team captain for her junior and senior years. Tempie was selected the first May Queen for Kimble County, a tradition that lasted for many years.
Following graduation, she attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock for a time before marrying Mitchell McLendon on May 25, 1932, in Junction at the Fannie Dupuay Church. Three years later they began their family, with first Edgar Mitchell, Jr., then Monna and then Marsha being born to their union.
Tempie and Mitchell ranched on the Flying “M”, and she also helped her husband operate The Junction Eagle, which they owned. She was active with her children, participating in the PTA and other school activities. She was a charter member of the Cactus Study Club.
On September 3, 1961, Tempie’s husband Mitchell died from a sudden illness. She went back to school at the University of Texas for a time, and was a substitute teacher.
In December 1965, Tempie married Fred Reynolds. Together they ranched on their land and on property they leased, raising Charolais cattle. In 1992, Tempie lost Fred to cancer, and she lived her remaining years in their house on the river.
Tempie loved to fish and hunt, and she spent virtually all of her life in Kimble County and on the river doing just that, passing her knowledge and skill on to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A wake was held Saturday, March 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. and funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at Graham Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. Tim Graham and Neel Etheredge officiating. Burial followed in Junction cemetery. Pallbearers were Rob Marion, Trey McLendon, Jarrett Stroud, Bubba Boone, Jerry Kirby and John Graham.
Mrs. Reynolds was preceded in death by two husbands; five brothers, Jack, Llano, Dick, Debs and Billy Boone; and by a sister, Gussie Boone Watson.
Survivors include one son, Edgar Mitchell McLendon, Jr. and wife, Pat, of Houston; two daughters, Monna Etheredge and husband, Neel, of Canyon Lake and Marsha McLendon of Austin; two sisters, Flossie McLendon of Mannford, Oklahoma, and Maude Graham and husband, Callan, of Junction; nine grandchildren, Mary Beth Curry of Corpus Christi, Mike McLendon of San Antonio, Tempe Soell of Angleton, Kelly Couey of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Kirby Couey of Hollywood, Florida, Trey McLendon and Rob Marion of Junction, Heather Reiner of Buda, and Kelly Ann McLendon of Dallas; and six great-grandchildren, Robby Todd Marion of Austin, Jarrett Stroud and Kaitlyn Soell of Angleton, and Emily Reiner, Courtney Reiner and Michael Reiner, all of Buda.
