Joe “Mac” McGowan
Joe “Mac” McGowan passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at the age of 77.
Joe was born in Dallas, on May 20, 1926, to Joe McGowan Sr. and Hazel Woolsey McGowan. He married Mozelle “Moe” Leifeste McGowan on October 29, 1949, and they were together for 36 blessed years until her death on December 2, 1985.
Joe worked 34 years in the steel fabricating business; 14 in road construction machinery, and 20 in metal building fabrication. When he and Moe moved to Pontotoc in 1980, Joe became an active rancher and cattleman and was secretary of the Pontotoc Volunteer Fire Department at the time of his death.
He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Hella Temple Shrine.
Unconditional love, hard work, sacrifice, dedication to God and family, and personal freedom coupled with the responsibilities that make freedom possible: these were Joe’s values and how he lived his life.
Joe and Jane Stubblefield McGowan were married on February 29, 1997. Their time together at the “Hideaway” was the happiest of his life. The rugged beauty of the hill country was a constant joy to him. Its open vistas were the freedom he cherished.
Joe is survived by his wife, Jane; two sons, Chris McGowan, and wife, Mary, of Plano and Monte McGowan and wife, Rosemary, of Richardson; four stepsons, Butch Stubblefield of Arlington, Bobby Stubblefield and wife, Jeanie, of Abilene, Layne Stubblefield and wife, Patty, of San Angelo, and Terry Stubblefield of Hurst, and one sister, Juanita Cannon of Dallas. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Cason and Shelby McGowan of Dallas; ten step-grandchildren and ten great-step-grandchildren.
Special thanks go to step-daughter, Tanya Spiller, sister-in-law Penny Nichols, and step-daughter-in-law, Patty Stubblefield, for their around-the-clock care of Joe in his last weeks.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 5, at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Groce officiating. Interment icon followed in the Gooch cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Cason McGowan, Lee Stubblefield, Dusty Stubblefield, Miki Stubblefield, Bobby D. Stubblefield, and Champ Thompson.
Honorary pallbearers of the Pontotoc Volunteer Fire Department were A.J. Baker, T.J. Webster, Hubert Morgan, Jim Bob Armes, David Blevins, Kenneth Polk, Charlie McLeod, James Scott, John Herron, Ruben Ake, Gerald Davis, Jody Webster, Rusty Capps, Kenneth Bode, Chase Stiles, and Frosty Miller.
Lunch was provided by the Ladies of the First United Methodist Church of Mason.
A scholarship memorial has been established at Junction National Bank, 701 Main, Junction, Texas, 76849. Donations benefiting a Junction High School student attending Texas A&M; should be sent to the attention of Mr. Rob Roy Spiller at Junction National Bank.
Funeral services were under the direction of Mason Funeral Home.

Johnnie Rachel Johnson Sweeten
Johnnie Rachel Johnson Sweeten, 94, of Rocksprings, passed away March 5, 2004, at the Alpine Nursing Home in Kerrville. She was born October 8, 1909, in Vanderpool to James Lee Johnson and Lucy Rachel Jernagin Johnson.
Johnnie married Brook Sweeten April 27, 1940, in Austin. In 1942 they moved back to Rocksprings. In the late 40’s she helped her father, Edwards County Judge James Lee Johnson, at the courthouse during an extended illness, and upon his death she was sworn in an interim county judge to complete her father’s term.
She taught public elementary school for 40 years, beginning in Columbus and finishing her career at Rocksprings in 1979.
Johnnie was active in the Presbyterian Church of Rocksprings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, in 2000; one son, James Sweeten in 1999; two brothers, Forrest and Roy Johnson and two sisters, Mabel Storey and Hazel Brown.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Rhodes, of Austin; one son, John Sweeten, of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Julia Mae Franks, of Warsaw, Missouri.
Pallbearers were Brooks Schultze, Patrick Sweeten, Eddie Sweeten, James Epperson, Allen Moody and Jack Sweeten.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 8, in the Presbyterian Church in Rocksprings, and interment followed in the Rocksprings cemetery. The Rev. Lewis Allen officiated.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home.

Mary Elizabeth “Crispy” Clifton
Mary Elizabeth “Crispy” Clifton, age 34, of Junction, died Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mary was born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, on July 10, 1968. She was a homemaker, mother, sister, daughter and loving friend who will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her father, James W. Clifton. Survivors include two sons, Anthony Ray Clifton of Junction and Jon Daniel Pustejovsky of Galveston; a daughter, Cindy Elizabeth McDaniel of Junction; her mother, Silvia Dean Clifton of Junction: three brothers, Larry Clifton and Eddie Clifton of Junction, and Kenny Clifton of Cleves, Ohio; five sisters, Peggy Carroll and Patricia Clifton of Junction, Linda Grant of Indiana, Cathy Lewis of Houston, and Becky Baker of Ohio, and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 29, at Graham Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Junction cemetery with Rev. Cecil Conner officiating.
Pallbearers were Larry Clifton, Larry Clifton, Jr., Douglas Carroll, Eddie Clifton, David Schaefer and Lloyd Powers.

Dorothy Elizabeth Schaefer
Dorothy Elizabeth Schaefer, 92, of Junction died September 2, 2002, in Kimble Hospital.
Services for Mrs. Schaefer will be Thursday, September 5, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Aubrey Fife Funerals. Burial will follow in Junction cemetery.
Mrs. Schaefer was born June 16, 1910, in McCulloch. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Church.
She is survived by four sons, C.W. Schaefer, Jr. of Junction, Daniel Schaefer of Victoria, George Schaefer of Blanco, and Emil “Buddy” Schaefer of Midland. She is also survived by two brothers, John Liverman of Junction and James Liverman of Rockville, Maryland and one sister, Lorene Darpalla of Odessa; and numberous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cheiko Ikawa Smith
83 Years of Age
Died : Sunday April 25, 2004
Internment of her cremains will take place in Junction cemetery at 10:00am Wednesday April 28, 2004.
She was born in Kumamoto, Japan February 10, 1921 the duaghter of Mitsuyo Ikawa. She married Willie O'Dell Smith April 19, 1952 in Tokyo Japan.
Survivors include her husband Willie O'Dell Smith of junction and a daughter Mary Ann Smith of Houston.

Anne Bierschwale Wright
79 Years of Age
Died : Tuesday April 20, 2004
Rosary will be Thursday, April 22, at 7:00pm in the funeral home chapel. Services will be Friday April 23 at 10:00am in Junction cemetery.
Survivors include her son Jose Murillo and his wife Adela of Junction; three grandchildren; niece Randy Fraser of Austin and nephew Trey Lester of Junction.

Margaret Mae Mansfield Allen
76 Years of Age
Died : April 12, 2004
Margaret Mae Mansfield Allen, 76, of Junction, passed away April 12, 2004 at her ranch home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday April 15, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. in the First Presbyterian Church of Junction. Burial will follow in the Junction cemetery.
Margaret was born June 30, 1927, in Junction to Homer Edward and Lillie Ramsay Mansfield. She began her education at the Station B school on the Watson Divide, and graduated from Junction High School in 1945, She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College and graduated from Sul. Ross State College, following which she became a home demonstration agent in Eastland, She married William Raymond Alien on December 4, 1948, and returned to Junction, where she was a ranch woman, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a long time and active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Dandelion Study Club,
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, and by a brother Bill Mansfield. She is survived by two sons, Tom and wife Cathy of Dallas and Bob and wife Laurrie of Junction; four grandchildren, Stacy Alien of Houston, Trisha Alien of Dallas and K K Alien and Bill Alien of Junction. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Haze1 Mansfield of Junction, two nephews Homer Mansfield of Junction and Alien Grubbs of Houston, a niece Georgia Billingsley of Keller, two aunts Doily Mayridd of Amarillo and Lou Vanderveer of Bandera, and by several special cousins.
Pallbearers will be Charles Hagood, Jack Hoggett, Rule Holland, Awbrey Kothamnn, Archie Lennon, Homer Mansfield, Bill McMillan, John Nunn, Bill Stewart and Hayden Woodard. Honorary pallbearers arc Charles Dowell, Clayton Murr and Preston Wright.
Memorials may be made to the Kimble Hospital Foundation, Nurses for Kimble County or to a favorite local charity.

Louis Melvin Plumley
Born April 19,1919
Died : January 4, 2004
Funeral services held January 6, 2004 at Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel in San Saba, TX. Services officiated by Cecil D. Conner and Greg Davis. Pallbearers were David Adams, Jimmie Trimble, Monty Riggs, Mitchell Riggs, Marcus Riggs and Kenneth Plumley. Internment was in China Creek cemetery in San Saba.
Louis Melvin Plumley, 84 years of age, passed away at Kimble Hospital on Sunday, January 4, 2004. Louis was born on April 19,1919 in Douglas AZ. He was the son of the late John Allen Jr and Ella Mae Plumley.
Louis married Mildred Mae Riggs on November 30, 1945, in San Saba. He served in the army during World War II, and received two bronze medals for his service during the Battle of the Bulge. Louis was a minister with the Full Gospel Church in Fredericksburg for about 10 years, starting in 1969. He was in the pecan business off and on throughout his life. In 1975 he and his son, Sammy, formed Plumbley Pecan Company in Junction.
In most recent years, Louis enjoyed the simple things in life; drives in the country with his children and grandchildren and spending time at the pecan shop with his gamily, friends and his cats. His family and friends were truly blessed by his love.
Louis is survived by his sister Eva Jememia Hinds, of Brady; two sons Louis Ward Plumley and wife Linda of Fort Worth and Sammy Plumley and wife, Gwen of Junction; five grandchildren, Louis Everett and wife Rebecca of Plano, Shane and wife Mary of Lampasas; Cody and wife Misty of Junction; Monica and husband Bill Miller of Fort Worth, and Carter and wife Melody of Uvalde; granddaughter-in-law Jennifer Plumley; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four sisters; Maudine Velma Carson, Velma Mae Evans, Billie Ruth Storms and Maurice Bailey ; and four brothers, Albert Lee Plumley, John Franklin Plumley, Willis Oliver Plumley and Alvin St. Alvin Plumley.

Ray C. Burrows
90 Years of Age
Died : January 14, 2004
Masonic graveside services held 2:00pm Saturday January 17, 2004 at London cemetery.
Survivors include sons, Gary Burrows of Houston and Richard Burrows of Muskogee, OK.

Melba Hicks
Born June 17, 1918
Died : January 17, 2004
Melba Lois Hicks born June 17, 1918 in Mills County Texas to Jay Hue and Susie Mae Hicks.
Melba was married to S.J. Ratliff in 1936. S.J. preceded her in death in 1965. She married James Arthur "Pete" Lackey in 1951. He preceded her in death in 1979.
Survivors include two children, Jerrie Lois Fairchild and Judy Lee Chenault, seven grandchildren, Judy Kay Albus, Cheryl Herring, Charlie Fairchild, James Blake Chenault, Jerry Don Chenault, Jeana Lee Wollman. She was preceded in death by Duane Fairchild on August 25, 1985. She is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren.

Myrtle Caldwell Weaver
Myrtle Caldwell Weaver, 74, died in a Kerrville nursing home January 28, 2004.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 31, at Haynie Chapel Methodist Church in Garfield with Rev. Jim Harrell officiating. Interment icon followed in Haynie Chapel cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey Weaver of Junction; one daughter, Carol Sanders of Crane; two sons, Lee Weaver of Garfield and Steve Weaver of Richardson; three grandsons, two sisters, three brothers and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces.

Virgie Pilkington Mosley
Virgie Pilkington Mosley, 70, in San Angelo, died at home on January 25. Virgie and her family lived in Junction when she was a child, in the 1940's.
Funeral graveside services were held at Lawn Haven cemetery of San Angelo, on January 31, with Cecil Conner officiating.
Virgie is survived by two daughters, Shirley Shaver of Belton and Brenda McCoy of Troy; two sons, Randy Mosley of Washington State, and Kenneth Mosley of Grape Creek; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Billy Joe Pilkington of Eldorado and Sammy Pilkington of Belton.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Lennox Mosley, and her parents, B. T. ("Buck") and Florence O'Rear Pilkington.
