Montrose M. Wolf
Graveside services for Montrose M. Wolf, 68, of Lawrence, KS., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, in the family cemetery on R.R. Spiller Ranch near Junction. Mr. Wolf died March 19 at his home.
He was born May 29, 1935, in Houston, and was the son of Edwin Madison and Ruth deTurk Wolf. He married
Sandra Spiller on October 24, 1959, in Houston.
He received a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Houston in 1959, a M.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University in 1961 and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Arizona State University.
Mr. Wolf was a professor at the University of Kansas from 1965-2000 in the Dept. of Human Development and Family Life.
He had numerous honors and achievements, among them being the recipient of the University of Kansas Higuchi/Youngberg Research Achievement Award in 1983, the first Distinguished Contributions Award from The Teaching-Family Association the Teaching-Family Association also named a new award for him; The Montrose Wolf Award for exceptional application of the Teaching-Family Model in Treatment Foster Care, 1995; Boys Town's Father Flanagan Award for Service to Youth, 1996; an APA, Div 25, Applied Research Award; for Teaching-Family Association Collective, Lifetime Contribution to the Teaching Family Model, 2002; and was recognized as one of six Founders of The Teaching-Family Association. In 2004 he received the annual award for Outstanding Contributions to Behavior Analysis, California Association for Behavior Analysis and the InterMountain Centers of Human Development Award.
He was acknowledged by the U.S. Senate as a founder of the field of Applied Behavior Analysis in 2003.
He was the author of numerous publications and had presented many paper presentations at professional meetings; and had been invited to do presentations at Colloquia, Conferences, and workshops. Also he wrote grant support proposals, was a consultant and served on many professional boards and committees; and edited publications.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Julie Planchon Wolf, of Seattle, WA; one son, Peter Madison Wolf, Lawrence; his step-mother, Lila Wolf, Houston; one brother, Edwin Madison "Pete" Wolf, Houston; and two step-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Junction or to a charity of your choice.
Curtis William Stockton
Curtis William Stockton, Sr., 91, passed away in the Menard Nursing Home Thursday, March 18, 2004. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, at the Fort McKavett cemetery.
Curtis was born and raised at Fort McKavett. He grew up fishing and hunting on the headwaters of the San Saba River. He did everything from shearing sheep for pennies a head, to drilling water wells. He saw times change from running barefoot or riding horseback to Model A’s, to his old blue Dodge pickup.
In 1948 he married
Mary Helen Jackson. They moved to Schleicher County to begin farming and ranching. Curtis loved the birth of animals, the growth of crops, and a good garden. And if there was a good rain and flood, he “rode” his boat on the San Saba River from Fort McKavett to Menard.
Curtis recently received his 50 year pin with the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include two sons, Curtis and wife, Jeannie, of Houston and Curt of Menard; one daughter, Maggie Lew Middleton and husband, Ronnie, of Eldorado; grandchildren, Trey Stockton and wife, Lisa, of Houston, Shy Lowe, Shianne, and Lonnie Middleton of Eldorado and great-grandchildren, Will Stockton, Brees and Bray Guevara.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen; three brothers, Bill, Jim and Poochie; a sister, Flora and a daughter, Patsy Jo Bradley.
Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons and nephew, Sam Stockton.
Arrangements were by Gentry-Fife Funeral Home.
Thomas "Pancho" Byron Lay

Thomas "Pancho" Byron Lay, 69, passed away October 9, 2003 in Conroe, Texas. He was born July 21, 1934 in Humble Camp, Texas to Martha Alice Brewer Lay and Thomas Byron Lay. He was an engineer.
A Memorial graveside internment will be held at 10:00am Saturday April 10, 2004 in London cemetery.
He is survived by son Jeffrey Lay of Meza, AZ; daughters Pamela Friesel and Shery Young of of Conroe; brothers William Lay of Kalamazoo, MI and Barry Lay of Douglas, AZ; sisters Deborah Hilcove of Scottsdale, AZ and Amanda Brenden of Meza, AZ; grandchildren Terry Lee Buhler, Paul Asley Wilborn, Douglas Ray Buhler, Sierra Dawn Young and Robert Owen Smith; seven great-grandchildren; and great aunt Eunice Dayton of London.

Memorial service held on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at 2:00pm at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Junction.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lydia B. Farmer Scholarship at Texas A&M University or the Kimble County Library.
Born in Junction Texas on November 19, 1906, Doc was the son of AG and Norma Durst Farmer, he was a fifth generation Texan. He operated the F5 Ranch on the Ft McKavett Rd. He married
Dydia (Bea) Black of Houston in 1930. During the drought years of the 1950's, he and Bea moved to San Antonio, where he became nationally recognized as top microfilm salesman for the 3M Company. Following the death of Bea in 1959, he married
Patty Lou McCloud in 1960. they moved to the F5 Ranch in 1969.
A 1926 graduate of Junction High School, Doc went to Texas A&M (1930) where he was a yell leader. he was active in civic affairs in Junction; Founding member of the Hill Country Fair Association, Kimble County Commissioner; board member of the First State Bank; founding member of the North Llano TV Corp. and member of various agricultural and land conservation organizations in Kimble County. Doc was a Mason and recently recognized for his 65 year membership, Junction City Lodge #548 AF and AM.
Survivors include: Patty McCloud Farmer; sister Louise Boyer of Austin; 3 sons, Norman Kittrell Farmer Jr. of Austin, David Robb Farmer of Taos NM, George Stanford Farmer of Austin; 4 grandchildren, Lydia Farmer of Lowry, David Robb Farmer Jr., Colin Jarrett Farmer, Edward Kittrell Farmer; and 5 great grand children.
Lem Fleming
Lem Fleming, 66, of Chillicothe, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003, in Vernon.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 11, at 4 p.m. at Gentry-Fife Funeral Home Chapel in Junction. Interment
was in Junction cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home of Vernon.
Lem was born March 23, 1937, in Junction. He was a son of the late Lem Lendon and Mary Edwards Fleming. He married
Barbara Crisp on April 19, 1963, in Menard. He graduated from Junction High School and Sul Ross University in Alpine with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Chillicothe, where he served in T.V. Outreach Ministry for 25 years, was a lay leader and a member of the board of trustees.
Lem served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a farmer in Hardeman County and ranched in Kimble County. He was a grandson of a pioneer ranching family in Kimble County.
Lem retired from Texas A&M; Agriculture Experiment Station and for the past two years was employed with the Texas Boll Weevil Foundation. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Fleming of Chillicothe; two sons, Jim Fleming, of San Angelo and Steven Fleming and wife, Kim, of Gainsville; one granddaughter, Meagan Fleming of Gainesville; two brothers, Russell Fleming and wife, Kathy, of Junction and Mitch Fleming and wife, Belinda, of Menard and one sister, Mag Spaeth and husband, Dayton, of Mason.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; one sister, Loraine Ake and one brother, James Fleming.
Pallbearers were John Cashman, Tooter Schulze, Duker Ragsdale, Oscar Menchaca, John Paul Henderson, Charles McGuire, R.C. Lackey and Tom Johnston.

Lucy (Ikie) Allison
Lucy Iola (Ikie) Allison, 79, died Sunday, December 14, 2003, at Kimble Hospital. Graveside services were held Wednesday, December 17, at 2 p.m. in Copperas cemetery. Arrangements were by Gentry-Fife Funeral Home.
Ikie was born July 15, 1924, in Puyallup, Washington, to Ole and Emelia Oberg Gabrielson. She married
Ben Allison in Washington on June 8, 1945.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; parents; a sister, Marjorie Stackhouse and grandson, Bryan Fleming.
She is survived by her son, Mike Allison and wife, Jane, of Junction; two daughters, Janice Wiggins of Kingsland and Susan Roberts and husband, Kirby of Brownwood; three sisters, Marie Murr of Junction, Joan Ash of Oregon and Katherine Bennett of Washington and two brothers, Fred Gabrielson of Oregon and Ira Gabrielson of Washington; grandchildren, Kent Fleming, Darla McKenna, Benjamin Jiles Roberts, Will, Justin and Kathleen Allison and four great-grandchildren.
Ikie was a wife, mother and grandmother, all of whom she enjoyed. She loved helping her husband, Ben, on the family ranch and her children and grandchildren loved hearing her stories about “the good ole days.” Ikie loved to do crafts in her spare time. She did crochet, bead work, and loved to sew. But her true joy in life was her family, who will miss her.
Leota J. Hickenbottom
Leota J. Hickenbottom, age 83, of Junction, passed away Friday, April 2, 2004, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg.
Mrs. Hickenbottom was born in Cameron, West Virginia, on June 1, 1920, to Roy and Mary Clark. On September 9, 1936, Leota married
Roy Hickenbottom in New Philly, Ohio.
A resident of Junction and London for over thirty years, Mrs. Hickenbottom was a member of the London Church of Christ.
A graveside funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 5, at the London cemetery with Mr. Richard Horne and Mr. Kim Squiers officiating.
Mrs. Hickenbottom was preceded in death by her husband, Roy and one son, Dean Hickenbottom.
Survivors include five sons, John Hickenbottom of Oklahoma, Gene Hickenbottom of London, Roy Hickenbottom of Houston, Allen Hickenbottom of Junction and Mike Hickenbottom of North Carolina; one daughter, Ann Joiner of London; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the direction of Graham Funeral Home.
Monroe Gray
Monroe Gray, 83, of Big lake, passed away March 30, 2004, in the Reagan County Care Center.
Monroe, a longtime resident of Big Lake, was born in Lampasas, on August 12, 1920. He was a retired oilfield worker.
Survivors include two sons, Milton Gray of Austin and Marshall Gray and wife, Sherri, of San Angelo; four grandsons, Michael of Galveston, Mathew, Mark and Mason of San Angelo; four brothers, Hershel Gray, Bobby Gray, Clarence Gray C.A. Gray of Junction; one sister, Mary Lee Tinny and numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret Mansfield Allen
Margaret Mae Mansfield Allen, 76, of Junction, passed away April 12, 2004, at her ranch home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, April 15, at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Junction. Burial will follow in the Junction cemetery.
Margaret was born June 30, 1927, in Junction to Homer Edward and Lillie Ramsay Mansfield. She began her education at the Station B School on the Watson Divide, and graduated from Junction High School in 1945. She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College and graduated from Sul Ross State College, following which, she became a home demonstration agent in Eastland. She married
William Raymond Allen on December 4, 1948, and returned to Junction where she was a ranchwoman, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a longtime and active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Daedalian Study Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and by a brother, Bill Mansfield.
She is survived by two sons, Tom and wife, Cathy, of Dallas and Bob and wife, Laurrie, of Junction; four grandchildren, Stacy Allen of Houston, Trisha Allen of Dallas and K.K. and Bill Allen of Junction. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Hazel Mansfield of Junction; two nephews, Homer Mansfield of Junction and Allen Grubbs of Houston; a niece, Georgia Billingsley of Keller; two aunts, Dolly Mayfield of Amarillo and Lou Vanderveer of Bandera, and by several special cousins.
Pallbearers will be Charles Hagood, Jack Hoggett, Rufe Holland, Awbrey Kothmann, Archie Lennon, Homer Mansfield, Bill McMillan, John Nunn, Bill Stewart and Hayden Woodard. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Dowell, Clayton Murr and Preston Wright.
Memorials may be made to the Kimble Hospital Foundation, Nurses for Kimble County or to a favorite local charity.

James Santiago Gonzales
James Santiago Gonzales, 81, of Menard, passed away April 10, 2004, in Ballinger.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 13, at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in the Garden of Memories cemetery. Father Floro Hinacy officiated.
James was born July 25, 1923, in Melvin, to Nasario and Margarita Garcia Gonzales. He married
Guadalupe Perez on June 17, 1942. He was a sheep shearer, laborer and a member of the Scared Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of Menard; one son, Jamie Gonzales of Menard; two daughters, Elida Abilez of Junction and Patricia Spiller of Menard. Also surviving him are four brothers, Ruben Gonzales of Brady, Robert and Rigoberto Gonzales, both of Menard and Nolerbrito Gonzales of Arco, Idaho; eleven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Services were under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home of Menard.
