GUTHRIE
Zamma Scott Guthrie of Cleveland, Texas, passed away, Sunday, August 21, 2005 at the age of 93. She was born in Woden, Texas to Calvin and Anna Del Scott on August 27, 1911.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Lisa Kaster and John Tuttle; great-grandchildren, Sara Tuttle, Rhiannon Brown and husband, James, Patricia McHaney; great-great-grandchildren, Neil Jennings, Austin Collier, Lydia Massie; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving and caring family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her son, John A. Tuttle.
Rev. Jim Lea conducted funeral services Wednesday, August 24, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas with interment at Ryan Cemetery.
OLSON
Robert Lewis Olson, 78, of Hankamer, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, in a Beaumont Hospital after an extended illness. He was born May 2, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents Richard Olson and Josephine Meuret Olson. He worked as a mechanic for Johnny Jennings Rice Farm in Baytown for 20 years. After retirement, he loved being with family and his grandchildren. Mr. Olson loved playing dominoes and cooking pancakes for all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Olson will be 10:00 a.m.., Wed, Aug. 31, 2005 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel Cemetery, Hardin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his son: William Henry Olson. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; Dollie Marie Olson of Hankamer; Sons: James Olson Jr. of Hardin; Donald Olson and wife Thelma of Conroe; Bobby L. Olson and wife Diane of Conroe; Ricky L. Olson and wife Cindy of Cleveland; Joseph Olson of Hankamer. Daughters: Patsy Ann Scott and husband Jerry of Hardin; Cindy Jane Blake and husband Nathaniel of Baytown; Elizabeth Marie Davis and husband Hubert Lee of Hardin. Twenty-two grandchildren and Forty-three great-grandchildren also survived.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug 30, 2005, from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas.
BAZZOON
Drafton Rufus Bazzoon, age 87, was born in San Jacinto County, October 22, 1917 to John Rufus and Beulah Thomas Bazzoon. Drafton was a longtime resident of Tarkington Prairie, Cleveland, Texas. He passed away peacefully August 28, 2005.
He graduated from Cleveland High School, 1937. He entered the U.S. Army, February 28, 1941 and served as Technician through October 5, 1945. He participated in 5 European campaigns. He also served as General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s personal driver. He was a Bronze Star recipient. Drafton retired from Exxon, Baytown, with 30 years of faithful service. He was a 59 year member of Tarkington Prairie Masonic Lodge #498 AF & AM. He enjoyed his quality time with his special grandson, Jody. He was of Baptist faith. He served as a volunteer of Cleveland Senior Center Organization participating through Exxon-Mobile Volunteer Program. He is survived by his wife, Mary Arlene Jones Bazzoon; daughter, Carolyn Spell and grandson Joseph Drafton Spell of Spring, Texas; his sister Eva T. Tilton; sister-in-law Lee Bazzoon, of Houston, Texas; Tommie Bazzoon and Barbara Bazzoon; brother-in-law, Max McIlvain of Cleveland, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Allen and O’lena Perkins of Texas City, Texas and many other loving and caring family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Avis McIlvain; brothers, Kenneth Bazzoon, Vance Bazzoon, Addison Bazzoon, Raymond Bazzoon. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, 8/31/05 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas, with graveside services at Union Springs Cemetery, Corrigan, Texas at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be nephews, Billy Bazzoon, Jimmie Bazzoon, John Bazzoon, Mark Perkins, and friends, Dalton Gregory, Gene Smith, Paul Gregory and Ronald Corn. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., 8/30/05, Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas.
Emery
Della T. Choate Emery, 86 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away August 30, 2005. She was born in Coldspring, Texas to Sam and Carrie Turner on August 26, 1919.
She is survived by her son, Wilbur E. Choate, Sr. and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Mark Robinson and wife, Glynna with three boys and one girl, John Taylor Barron with one girl, Lisa Choate with two boys, Jason Barron with one boy and one girl, Wilbur E. Choate Jr. and wife, Dawn with three girls and one boy, Justin W. Lawson and wife, Misty with one boy and one on the way Carrie Choate Cook and husband, Robert with 3 girls and 1 boy, Tammy Jo Comstock and husband, Doug with two girls and one boy; former daughter-in-law, Suzanne Choate; numerous other loving and caring family members and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 1, 2005 at Bear Creek Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas with interment at Bear Creek Cemetery.
Bulay
Ray Bulay, 82, of Dayton passed away Tuesday evening, August 30, 2005 in Liberty after an extended illness. He was born December 27, 1922 in Lufkin, Texas to parents A. W. and Pearl Bulay. He had been a resident of this area for over 65 years. He attended Liberty High School and served briefly in the U.S. Army. Mr. Bulay was a beekeeper for over 30 years and worked for Williamson Propane. He was the Sunday School Superintendent at the First United Methodist Church in Dayton for over 40 years. He loved coming to Sunday School and was there to greet everyone young and old as they entered the Sunday School building and Church. He collected coins and enjoyed riding on his mower and tractor.
Mr. Bulay was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Allen Bulay and his sister, Tyra Fulton.
Services for Mr. Bulay will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2005 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jay Barnes and Rev. Jon Stouffer officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.
He is survived by his loving wife: Angie Bulay of Dayton; two daughters: Alicia Wadle and husband Allen of Arlington and Rhonda Whitson of Carrolton; three grandchildren: Jana Sanderson and husband Robert, Brian Whitson and wife Lauren and Jenny Whitson; also two great-grandchildren: Ashley and Abigail Sanderson.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday evening at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas.
WALKER
Curtis Milton Walker, age 82 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2005. He was born in Fostoria, Texas to Marshall Edward and Cennie Walker on October 17, 1922.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alta Opheila Walker; children, Cennie Gomez, Gloria Acosta and Husband Gilberto, Paula Pescina; sisters, Lillie Copley, Betty Smith; sister in law, Eva McDaniel; grandchildren, Michelle Spears, Paul Acosta, Erika Montesnieto, Robert Gomez; great-grandchildren, April Spears, Patrick Spears, Lexie Montesnieto, Stacie Montesnieto and many other beloved family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Cennie Walker; brothers, Edward and William Walker and his sister, Jewel Lavada Walker.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 6, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at Cross Roads Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas. Bro. Chester Burt and Bro. Jack Therell conducted the service with interment at Morgan Cemetery.
Everitt
Emmitt Bertram Everitt, age 80, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away, Sunday, September 4, 2005. He was born in Magnolia, Texas to Emmitt Benjamin and Ruby Everitt on May 14, 1925. He is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann Everitt; three children; four step-children, four brothers, two sisters, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren with many other loving and caring family members and friends and all of the V.F.W. Post 1839. A memorial service was held Wednesday, September 7, 2005, 2:00 p.m. at V.F.W. Post 1839, Cleveland, Texas.
Norcross
Carl Truett Norcross passed away Friday, September 05, 2005 at his home after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 28, 1931 in Dayton, Texas, graduated from Dayton High School and served in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from 1950-1954. A local businessman, entrepreneur, and volunteer at MD Anderson Cancer Institute (27 years service), Truett will be missed by those he volunteered with weekly and those whose lives he touched over many years working in surgical waiting area with families of patients.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 5, 2005 at The First United Methodist Church in Dayton, Texas with Rev. Thomas White of Winthrop, Massachusetts and Rev. Jon Stouffer of Dayton, Texas officiating. Burial will be in Linney Cemetery following the service.
He was predeceased by his parents Milton Frank Norcross and Nellie Julia (Wright) Norcross.
He leaves behind a daughter, Zoë Norcross of Dayton, Texas and a son, Jay T. Norcross and daughter-in-law Louise Therrien of Notre-Dame-Du-Laus, Quebec, Canada. Eight grandchildren, Jennifer Lawrence Wolffart and husband Shawn of Dallas, Texas; Lindsay Lawrence Chakrabarti and husband Neil of Webster, Texas; Todd Lawrence of Austin, Texas; and Lara Lawrence of Winthrop, Massachusetts; Melissa Norcross of Houston, Texas; Stephanie Norcross of Austin, Texas; Jordan Norcross of Kingwood, Texas; and Dylan Norcross of Kingwood, Texas; one great-grandson, Kade Chakrabarti of Webster, Texas; one sister, Nell Whittington and brother-in-law, Bowen of Liberty, Texas; two nephews, Scott Whittington of Dayton, Texas; Michael Whittington and wife Marilyn of Dayton, Texas; and one niece, Wendy Whittington of Alexandria, Virginia.
Pallbearers are Scott Whittington, Michael Whittington, Hillary Lawrence, Coley Wright, Bobby Sanders and Carl Sanders.
The family will receive friends 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, September 4, 2005 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
