James Ray Eggleston, age 71, of Shepherd, Texas, passed away, Thursday, February 2, 2006. He was born in Houston, Texas to Artie Leon and Eula Mae Carroll on March 25, 1934.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Eggleston; daughters, Robbie Hall and husband, Allen, Terrie Roberts and husband, Lee, Susan Tran and husband, Trung, Patty Sieg and her husband, Keith, Peggy Walker and husband, Gregg; sister, May Len Hicks; brother, Alvin Eggleston; six grandchildren and many other loving and caring family members and friends.
Memorial services were held 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2006, Pace-Stancil funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas.
Scott
Michael R. “Mike” Scott, 53, of Dayton, died Saturday, February 4, 2006, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 2 Pm, Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at the Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton with burial following thereafter. Visitation will be held from 10 Am to 5 Pm, Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Mike was born December 1, 1952 in Brady, to parents; George W. and Bonnie L. White Scott, a former resident of Baytown, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 20 years. He was a electrician for Brown and Root before becoming disabled, member of the First Baptist Church of Dayton, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 13 years: Cyndi Knerr Scott, daughters: Kayla Scott, Sonya Scott, and Sheri Scott, son: Benjamin Scott, brother: David Scott, two nephews, and numerous other relatives, and friends.
LaBuff
L. V. LaBuff, 75, of Dayton, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 10 Am, Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton with burial following at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
L.V. was born January 13, 1931 in Simmons Bottom to parents; Frank and Lena Mae Dunn LaBuff, and has resided in the Dayton area throughout his life. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, member of the Trinity Baptist Church, member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, and enjoyed buying and training horses, and ranching.
Mr. LaBuff was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Elsie Lou Sims, Emma Lou Trout, and Katy Buckner, and brothers: Daniel LaBuff, Martin LaBuff, and J. J. LaBuff. He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Peggy Littlefield LaBuff of Dayton, sons: Raymond Lee LaBuff of Shepherd, Roy Earl LaBuff and wife BeBe of San Antonio, Elvis Frank LaBuff and wife Jeanie of Huntington, and Tracy Kent LaBuff and Twila of Dayton, daughter: Shele’ Joyce Miles of Cleveland, sisters: Madelyn Durdin of Dayton and Nona Rios of Baytown, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
MAJORS
Karen Ann Majors, age 54, of Rye, Texas, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2006. She was born in Houston, Texas to Harvey and Helen Emerson on November 5, 1951 of whom preceded her in death along with her brother, Chris Emerson.
She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Majors; sons, Jeffery Knox, Ronnie Knox; sisters, Elizabeth Sawyer, Judy Bradley, Brenda Anderson; brothers, Walter Emerson, John Emerson and many other loving family members and caring friends.
Graveside services were held Saturday, February 11, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Ryan Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
CUMBA
There is a new angel in heaven. On Wednesday, February 8, 2006, Una Olene Cumba, passed peacefully from this life in Cleveland, TX after a valiant fight with cancer. She was born to Ulysses Simpson and Josie Lee Grant on November 17, 1921 in Olustee, OK. In 1940, she married the love of her life, Rubin Lee Cumba, and they formed a union that was to last over 48 years. Mrs. Cumba had a deep love for music in both playing instruments and singing. She worked in food service and retired from Calhoun County I.S.D. She was preceded in death by her one and only, Rubin Lee Cumba, as well as 4 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by her children, Sharon Joy Blake, Simpson Lee Cumba and Roger Darrell Cumba; sister, Gertie Masterson of Mineral Wells; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends she left behind wherever she lived. The family will receive friends at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home on Friday, February 10, 2006 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 9:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2006, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Daniel Goodman officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday in Greenlawn Garden Cemetery in Port Lavaca, TX.
Lumpkins
Delwin Ernest Lumpkins, of Liberty, Texas, passed away on February 8, 2006, after a brave battle with cancer. Delwin was a retired Superintendent for the Samson Companies. He was born January 15, 1934, to Irwin Roy and Della May Lumpkins, who both preceded him in death. He was united in marriage on May 3, 1951, with Ramona E. Gates, and they had six children who all survive him: Leanna Davis and husband, Ed, of Nacogdoches, Texas; Delwin Eugene Lumpkins and wife, Jill, of Hutchinson, Kansas; Ronald Lumpkins of Russell, Kansas; Dwight Lumpkins and wife, Nancy, of Liberty, Texas; Loren Lumpkins of Liberty, Texas, and Lonnie Lumpkins and wife, Mandy, of Kilgore, Texas. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Earl Lumpkins and wife, Juanita of Palco, Kansas; Keith Lumpkins and wife, Grace of Chase, Kansas; also two sisters, Virginia King and husband, Daryl of Parker, Colorado; and Lorna Kay Lumpkins of Hays, Kansas. He was also preceded in death by sister, Royalyn Nelson, grandson, Michael Shane Lumpkins, and granddaughter, Lauren Rose Lumpkins. He is survived by 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Liberty, Texas, on Thursday, February 16, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 18, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery in Holyrood, Kansas. For those wishing to honor Delwin’s memory, in lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P. O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas, 77210-4486. Services are under the arrangement of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.
Pottorff
Donald Robert Pottorff, 50, of Dayton died Thursday, February 9, 2006 in Baytown after a brief illness. He was born in Raleigh, New York, July 19, 1955. He attended high school in New York and had lived in this area for the past 25 years. He enjoyed working on computers and loved to cook. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Parker and his sister, Scarlet Smith.
Mr. Pottorff is survived by his wife: Christine Fisher Pottorff of Dayton; step-father: William Alt of Dayton and brother Robert George Pottorff of Dayton. A memorial service will be held at a later time. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.
KELLEY
James “Jimmy” Lee Kelley of Cleveland, Texas passed away Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the age of 68. He was born in Fostoria, Texas to Jimmy Lee and Ethel Kelly on April 30, 1937. He was a lifetime resident Cleveland and faithful servant of his community. He was a member of the Masonic Club, Master Mason Grand Lodge of Texas, Lodge #866 (Shepherd Lodge); a was a Senior Circle Member of Cleveland Regional Chapter; he served as 1975 President of the Chief Operating Engineering Association of Houston. He was a Baptist in faith and enjoyed quality time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother; sons, Jim Kelley, John Kelley, Jesse Kelley; sister, Barbara Kelley; brother, Jerry Kelley; grandchildren, Melissa Kelley, Patrick Kelley, Travis Kelley, Kaitlyn Kelley, Kayla Kelley and numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family members and caring friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Lee Kelley; and brother, Kenneth Kelley.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 14, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Bear Creek Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas. Bro. Gene Jones and Bro. Don Stephens conducted the service with interment at Bear Creek Cemetery.
Fatherree
Charles Robert Fatherree of Liberty, 77, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Magnolia Place in Liberty. He was born December 2, 1928 in Ovett, Mississippi to parents Charles Longre and Marie Walters Fatherree. He served in the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Marines. He enjoyed fishing and racing cars. He had lived in this area for over 20 years.
Mr. Fatherree was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 47 years: Claudia J. Holder Fatherree. He is survived by his sons: Mike Chambers and wife Sandra of Norman, Oklahoma, Don Lotspeich and wife Beth of Baytown, Jim Lotspeich and wife Kathy of Port Aransas, and Robert Fatherree, Jr. of Dayton; Daughters: Pat Petty and husband Jack of San Antonio, Jean Keeler and husband Dennis of Indiana, Karen Stroter of Houston and Ann Henscey and husband Pat of Dayton; twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will follow at a later date in Henderson, Texas.
