Brown
Charles Joseph “Joe” Brown, 73, of Dayton, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at his home in Dayton after an extended illness. He was born December 2, 1933 in Mississippi to parents Charles R. Baxter and Hertha Eugenie Garcia Brown. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict and he was stationed in Guantanamo Bay. He had lived in area for the past ten years. Before retiring he worked for Morris Roofing in Pasadena and for Harris County. Mr. Brown was a member of the Old River Assembly of God Church, enjoyed gardening, football, and watching John Wayne movies.
Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the Old River Assembly of God Church with Rev. Kerry Sampson officiating.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Delbert Brown. He is survived by his wife of 51 years: Betty Garner Brown of Dayton; daughters: Barbara Dockery and Marion Hogan and husband Glenn of Dayton; sons: Billy Brown and wife Debra of Hockley, Walter Brown and wife Barbie of Dayton, and Charles L. Brown and wife Michaelle of Baytown; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, also numerous other relatives and friends.
Sellars
Bill D. Sellars, 79, of Dayton, died Saturday, May 26, 2007, at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital Alexander Campus in Baytown.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Bill was born January 15, 1928 in Alexandria, LA, to parents; Wesley O. Sellars and Cora E. Turner, a former resident of Baytown, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 30 years. He had attended the Corpus Christi Christian College, veteran of the US Navy with service during World War II, retired welding superintendent for Brown and Root after25 years of employment, and member of the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge #1192 AF & AM. He also enjoyed computers, landscaping, oil painting, writing, travel, and going to the dog races.
Mr. Sellars was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter: Sara Sellars, and brother: Bobby Sellars. He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Ruth Kaelke Sellars of Dayton, daughters: Gayle Cash and husband Willy Lutz of Pasadena, Barbara Clark and husband Gary of FL, and Ruth E. Marburger of Brenham, son: Gary D. Sellars of Humble, grandchildren: Gay Lynn Branham and husband Eldon, Tammy Cash, Paul Clark, and Daniel Sellars, great-grandchildren: Christopher, Ashley, Kelly, and Johnathan, sister-in-law: Faye Sellars of FL, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Massay
James David Massay, 88, of Coldspring, Texas, passed away at Memorial Medical Center on Tuesday, May 27, 2007. He was born on September 23, 1918 to Tom and Mae Massay of whom preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Elizabeth Massay; daughter, Michal Worthy; sons, David Massay, Paul Massay; grandchildren, Stephen and Richard; great-grandchildren, Jesse, Gavin, Ethan, Logan; along with so many other cherished family members and caring friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 26, 2007, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Coldspring, Texas. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 27, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Coldspring, Texas.
Lowe
Vernon Carl Lowe, 79, of Dayton passed away on Monday, May 28, 2007 at his home after an extended illness. He was born April 1, 1928 in Tarkington Prairie, Texas to parents Pat. C. and Delia Lowe. He was a life long resident of the area where he was a graduate of Liberty High School. He was owner and operator of Lowe Oil Company in Dayton for over 35 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Lowe enjoyed hunting and his Great Dane dogs, also reading western novels.
Services for Mr. Lowe will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with interment to follow at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Lowe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Glenda Graves Lowe, and his son: Kelly Lowe. He is survived by his daughters: Lynn Harding and husband Claude of Dayton, Jerry Martin and husband Dave of Houston, and Kristy Patchett and husband Steve of Houston; seven grandchildren: Lars Harding and wife Dana, Aric Harding and wife Glenna, Chris Martin and wife Stephanie, Ryan Martin and wife Joette, Carrie Neal and husband Calvin, Tracy Brigman and husband Ivan, and Michael Lipsey; great-grandchildren: Ariana, Lydia and Drake Harding, Rylor Harding, Cadee and Wyatt Martin, Kellan Martin, Tristin and Taylor Brigman.
Zaruba
Jim Zaruba, Sr., 88, of Tarkington Prairie, died Friday, June 1, 2007 in Baytown after an extended illness. He was born June 30, 1918 in Dayton, Texas to parents Joseph and Carolyn Zaruba. He served during World War II in the Army Calvary and Air Force. Mr. Zaruba farmed for many years on the Reidland and Guthrie Farms before retiring.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Brother Brad Benoit officiating. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Zaruba was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Cassie Zaruba. He is survived by his daughter: Melodye Barta and husband Steve of Kingwood; his son: Jim Zaruba, Jr. and wife Margie of Baytown; his grandchildren: Jim Lucas Zaruba of Baytown, Phil and Mary Vera of Spring, Cliff and Sara Roberts of Houston, Marcus and Jessica Zaruba of Pearland; great-grandchildren: Thomas Roberts of Houston, and Karyssa Zaruba of Baytown; step-great-grandchildren: Robert Hernandez, Joshua Martinez and Janette Martinez of Baytown.
Lewis
Taft Baldwin (PaPa) Lewis, 92, of Liberty, Texas fell asleep in death on June 1, 2007 in Livingston, Texas. He was born on July 3, 1914 in Bay City. He was a self-employed handyman of many trades. He was a very caring person who loved caring for his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by many whose life’s he has touched.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Erniter Britton Babbs Lewis, parents, and four brothers, five sisters and sons Herbert L. Babbs, Jr. and Nathan Babbs.
He is survived by three daughters: Yolanda Moye and Charles, Pamela Williams, and Juanita Nolley and Kevin; three sons: Jessie C. Babbs, Sr. and Patricia, Tommie O. Babbs, Terrence R. Babbs and Lashanda; also 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren He was a baptized Jehovah’s Witnesses for over fifty years and remained faithful until his death.
Services for Mr. Lewis will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3620 Hwy 90 in Liberty, Texas. A special thanks to his niece and nephew, John Henry Smith of Liberty and Dorothy Lewis Fisher of West Columbia.
Visitation will be Friday, June 8, 2007 from 1pm. till 5pm at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Ayers
Herchell L. Ayers, 84, of Tarkington Prairie, passed away at his home, Saturday, June 9, 2007. Herchell was born February 14, 1923 to Floyd Franklin and Bertha Henry Ayers. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army, 536th Amphibian Tractor Battalion. He was owner and operator of Fox Vacuum in Daisetta, Texas. Herchell wed Alta Mae Barnett-Ayers, March 19, 1949.
He is preceded in death by his wife Alta Mae, his parents and his sister, Opal Carroll. He is survived by his son: Ray Ayers and wife Lynn; his daughter: Gail Page and husband Floyd ; grandsons: Jarrod Land and wife Courtney and Dan Page and wife Lacey; Great-grandsons: Clayton Jake Land and Peyton Rock Page; brothers: Earl Ayers and wife Mary Jo, Dalton Ayers and wife Martha; sisters: Vivian Traylor and husband Edward, June Bush and husband Don and Melba Traylor and husband Shelby.
Service for Mr. Ayers will be 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Rural Shade Baptist Church in Tarkington. Interment will follow at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie.
The viewing will be held Monday, June 11, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland, Texas.
