Burge
Richard Earl Burge, 85, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in Liberty after an extended illness. He was born December 16, 1921 in Cleburne, Texas to parents, William James and Ethel Dell Crockett Burge. He attended high school in Houston, graduating in 1941. Mr. Burge proudly served during World War II in the United States Navy on the USS Tennessee and was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He worked for the City of Houston for over 25 years as a City Marshall. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking and carving. Mr. Burge was a member of the Church of Christ.
Services for Mr. Burge will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Rodney Covington officiating. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday at Forest Park Lawndale, Houston, Tx. The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday evening, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
Mr. Burge was preceded in death by his parents and son, Richard Earl Burge, Jr. and sister. Helen Cheshier. He is survived by his wife: Lavetra Burge of Dayton; son: Derrin Burge and wife Sharon of Sugarland; daughters: Dorendia Hamilton of Friendswood, Ricki Baker and husband Buddy of Friendswood, and Cathie Halbrook and husband Rick of Atascosita; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother: Donald H. Burge of Pearland; sisters: Claudine Wilson of Boise, Idaho and Christine Keene of Denison.
Carter
Stanley Edward “Eddie” Carter, 58 of Dayton died Thursday, June 21, 2007. He was born March 12, 1949 in Dayton to parents Alton T. and Virginia Ripkowski Carter. Eddie was a lifelong resident of Dayton, graduating from Dayton High School in 1968. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, the United Association of Journeymen, and Pipefitters Local #798. Eddie enjoyed horse racing.
Services for Mr. Carter will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his brother: Alton Thomas “Tom” Carter, II and wife Nicki of Dayton; and his sister: Betty Alexander and husband Chuck of Dayton; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Maddox
John Newton Maddox, 67, of Livingston passed away, Sunday, June 24, 2007 after a brief illness. He was born December 21, 1939 in Call, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Liberty, Texas and had worked as a roughneck in the oilfield. He is preceded in death by his parents: Arthur O. and Joyce L. Rhame Maddox. He is survived by his friend Estelle Vaughn of Liberty and numerous cousins. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.
Lawrence
Gerald Key “Jerry” Lawrence, Sr., 84, of Dayton, passed away at his home Monday, June 25, 2007. He was born September 26, 1922 in Dayton to parents James V. and Winnefred R. Key Lawrence. He was a lifelong resident of Dayton, was a member of the Dayton High School Class of 1940, and was a veteran of the US Navy where he served during World War II. Before his retirement, Jerry worked for Brown and Root as a Millwright in the Gulf Refinery in Mont Belvieu. He enjoyed computers, woodworking, and vegetable gardening. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dayton where he was a former deacon, the VFW, American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge #825 A.F. & A.M. He had lived in Florida for nine years before moving back to Dayton.
Services for Mr. Lawrence will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with interment to follow at Linney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Joseph Benton Lawrence, Herbert Alvin Lawrence, sisters: Eunice Conner, Helena Turner, and Sallie Lawrence; son-in-law: Gary Montgomery. He is survived by his wife of 23 years: Nancy Knight Lawrence of Dayton; his daughter: Scharlot Montgomery of Arlington, Indiana; his sons: Gerald “Sandy” K. Lawrence, Jr. of Kenefick and John Coggins of Kenefick; his brother: James V. Lawrence of Hillister; eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
McMillen
Dewey A. McMillen, Jr., 74, of Winnie, died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at the Arboretum Nursing Home in Winnie.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 9, 2007, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial following at Liberty Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with rosary services at 7 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stencil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Dewey was born September 23, 1932 in Raywood, to parents; Dewey A. McMillen, Sr. and Blanch Janise, a former resident of Liberty, and has resided in the Winnie area for the past four years. He was a graduate of the Liberty High school, a retired tool pusher for Stanley Well Services after 28 years of employment, and enjoyed hunting.
Mr. McMillen was preceded in death by his parents, son: Alfred L. McMillen, and daughter-in-law: Andle McMillen. He is survived by his wife: Doris McMillen of Winnie, sons: Ervin E. McMillen and wife Maria of Winnie and Dewey A. McMillen, III of Huntsville, daughters: Leona B. Hall and husband John of Friendswood, Marie Mahmood and husband Max of Friendswood, and Rose Anna McMillen of Huntsville, sisters: Lillie Blanch Kersh, Martha J. Schroeder and husband Ernie, Mary Dinker, Bertha T. Theriot and husband Harry, and Josephine Smesny and husband Jerry, brothers: Francis McMillen, Jacques McMillen and wife Rose, John A. McMillen and wife Margaret, and Joseph McMillen and wife Judy, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Gothard
Ronnie Eugene Gothard, 52, of Liberty passed away Thursday, July 19, 2007 in Liberty at his home after an extended illness. He was born September 4, 1954 in Houston, Texas to parents, “Gigs” Gerald and Susie Pippin Gothard. He was a long time resident of Humble where he graduated from Humble High School. He was a member of the Day Spring Church where he enjoyed singing gospel and country music. He was owner and operator of Gothard Roofing and Construction which was established by his father in 1948. He continued the family business for over 20 years. Ronnie was a member of the USTRC, TRA, the Double Gully Roping Club and was a Texas Champion Bull Rider of the TRA. Ronnie will be remembered as a most generous and charitable person, always lending a helping hand. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and roping.
Services for Mr. Gothard will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2007 at North Main Baptist Church in Liberty with Rev. V. R. Hylton and Rev. Randy Moore officiating.
Interment will follow at Cooke Cemetery in Liberty. The family will receive friends Friday evening, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Mr. Gothard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Billy Gothard. He is survived by his wife: Sue Norman Gothard of Liberty, his son: Cody Gothard of Dayton; his daughter: Kellie Gothard Graham and husband Rick of Humble, his daughter: Rachel Odell and husband Cody of Sulphur Springs, his son: Phillip Woolls and wife Amy of Sour Lake; his brothers: Ray Gothard and wife Sandy of Bangs and Lester Gothard and wife Sue of Point Blank; his sister: Delores Reynolds and husband Quinn of Dayton; two grandchildren: Addison Gothard and Skyler Woolls; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Kelley
Dr. Rick Kelley, 54, passed away, Saturday, July 21, 2007 at M.D. Anderson, Houston, Texas. He was born in Vidor, Texas on December 12, 1952 to James Monroe and Meriam Kelley.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Pam Kelley; sons, Ian Kelley, Connor Kelley, Christopher Beene; daughters, Parrish Kelley, Rebecca Beene; brothers, Danny Kelley, Jerry Kelley, Jim Kelley and wife, Jeannette; niece and nephews, Rebecca Tobar, Kris Kelley, Wayne Kelley, Jon Kelley, Brian Kelley; and many other loving and caring family members and countless friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2007, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Memorial services will be at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 2:00 p.m.
Maddox
Jodi Griffin Maddox, 30, of Dayton passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 4, 1977 in Houston, Texas to parents: Rodney and Karol Huvall Griffin. She had been a longtime resident of Dayton where graduated in 1995 from Dayton High School. Jodi attended San Jacinto College and was currently working at Kimmie Brown Elementary School as a substitute teacher. She loved her family and friends, also she enjoyed cooking and taking care of her pets.
A memorial service for Jodi will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 26, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Dayton with Rev. Randy Piatt officiating.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandfathers: Earl Griffin and Clarence W. Huvall. She is survived by her husband of five years: Brett Maddox of Dayton; her precious daughter: Madelyn “Maddi” Maddox of Dayton; her mother: Karol Griffin of Dayton; her brother: Scott Griffin and wife Abbey of Dayton; her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Jerry and Winifred Maddox of Luling; her grandparents: Inez Inzerella and Myra Loyce Griffin.

Youngblood
Winona Elise Theriot Youngblood, 93, of Liberty, passed away Monday, July 23, 2007 at Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital after an extended illness. She was born October 9, 1913 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to parents, Frank V. and Antoinette Sitgue Theriot. She was a resident of this area since 1945. She had lived in Orange and graduated from Vinton High School. Mrs. Youngblood was a member of the Hull-Daisetta Methodist Church, Methodist Women’s Society and a charter member of the Hull-Daisetta Study Club. She had been a bookkeeper for many years and a partner in an independent oil company. She enjoyed visiting friends, her garden and knitting.
Graveside service for Mrs. Youngblood will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 25th at Fairlawn Cemetery in Liberty with Judge Phil Fitzgerald officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
Mrs. Youngblood was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Jesse Youngblood, the father of her children: J.C. Massingale and her son: John C. Massingale, Jr. She is survived by her daughter: Mary Cain of Liberty, six grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.
