Alton
Kenneth H. Alton, 60, of Coldspring, Texas, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2007. He was born in Watertown, New York on December 25, 1947. Survivors include his loving wife, Sally Alton; sisters, Marsha, Sharon; sons, Kenneth Alton, Jr. and Vanessa, James Miller and Angie; sisters, Marie Anderson and James, Terri Richards; 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; numerous other loving family members and caring friends. Arrangements made through Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas.
Hobbs
Estella Helen Hobbs, born June 18, 1916 in Yorktown, Texas, died Thursday, October 11, 2007, in Conroe, Texas, at the age of 91.
She was preceded in death by her parents Benhardt (Ben) and Lydia Louise (Halberdier) Pieper of George West, Texas. She was the last living child in her family of eight children, including her brothers Sam, Ed, Arthur, John Hugo, Alfred, and Jerome Pieper, and by her sister Elsa Lehmberg. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Leonard K. Hobbs and great granddaughter, Lydia Ruby Pearce.
She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law Helen and Troy Bearden of New Braunfels, Texas, Betty Jo and David Phillips of Willis, Texas, and Ruby and Homer McDonald of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her four grandchildren Regina DeLine, Troy D. Bearden, Cherie Aills, and Suzanne Pearce and husband, Rex; two sisters-in-law Sally Pieper and Mary Pieper; and her nine great grandchildren Mike DeLine and wife, Diana, Jason DeLine, Kirby DeLine, Eden Pearce, Ethan Pearce, Abigail (Abby) Pearce, Robby Aills, Haley Aills and Victoria Bearden and many nieces and nephews.
Known by many as Granny Hobbs, she lived her early life on the farm in Live Oak County and near the old Rabke Community. Later she married and eventually moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she lived for many years until all of her children were grown and married. In recent years she was a resident of Cleveland, Texas until she realized a dream of moving to her first new home, which was built for her by family and friends so she would have their care and support as her health waned.
She will always be remembered for her independence, self sufficiency and hard work ethic and her wonderful bake goods. She was always an example of strength and loved and revered by the many people who knew her.
A celebration of her life will be celebrated by family and friends at a graveside service on October 15, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens on Hwy 2025 (Cold Springs Rd), Cleveland, Texas. about 5 miles out Cold Springs Rd).
Havard
Lela Calline “Callie” Havard, age 21, resident of Cleveland, Texas, died in a tragic car accident October 12, 2007. Callie was born in Baytown, Texas to Dale Havard and Cindy Sumner on July 31, 1986. Callie was a fun loving girl with lots of heart. Her family and friends will miss her immensely.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2007 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home. Dr. W.C. Burns will conduct funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2007 atPace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas with interment at Lum’s Garden of Memories, Tarkington Prairie, Texas.
Callie is preceded in death by her grandfather, Bernard Havard; grandfather, Gary R. Sumner; uncle, Jody R. Sumner. Survivors include her parents; grandmothers, Betty Havard, Linda Vance, and Brenda Primeaux; step-mother, Barbara Helmcamp; sister, Destiny Anne Havard; brother, Cory Richard Havard; nephews, Klayton and Garrett Smith and many, many loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
Wallace
HUNTSVILLE – Karl Edward Wallace Jr,, 85, a veterinarian, longhorn rancher and retired Colonel in the U.S Army, died Thursday Oct 11, 2007, in Huntsville Texas.
SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct 20th, Saint Stephens Presbyterian Church, 2700 McPherson Ave., Fort Worth. Reverend Frederick Field Ritsch III officiating.

Karl Wallace was born in Bangs Texas on March 14th 1922 to Col Karl E. Wallace and Camille Shield Wallace. He graduated Paschal high school in Fort Worth, and attended North Texas Agricultural College. He graduated from Texas A&M.
He fought in France and Germany as an Infantry Officer in Gen. George Patton’s Third Army. He fought in the famed Battle of the Bulge, entered Germany, and met the Russians on the Leitz River. During the war he was wounded twice, received two battlefield promotions, achieved four campaign stars, a purple heart with a cluster, and a Bronze Star. During the war he was one of a dozen former A&M Students who held the traditional Aggie Muster in Nuremberg Germany on April 21, 1944.
After the war Karl received a second degree from Texas A&M, became a veterinarian and opened his first veterinary hospital in Fort Worth. In the National Guard he helped reorganize the 36th division and commanded a tank battalion in the 49th armored. He retired from the military a full Colonel in 1965.
Upon retirement his great love was his ranch and his longhorn cattle. He received a lifetime Achievement award from the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association, and an Outstanding Achievement award from the American Veterinary Medical Association.
He is survived by a son Karl Edward Wallace III, sisters Beryl Wilkinson, Lynn Bass, and Niki Dameron-Smith, a brother Wayne Wallace, and his partner Robert Guenther.
Smith
Okalena Smith, 77, of Spring, Texas, passed away October 14, 2007. She was born in New Willard, Texas on March 18, 1930 to Don A. and Ada Mae Smith.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Deberha Prescott. Donna Howell and husband, Ralph, Carolyn Lynn Yauger and husband, Doug; grandchildren, Alyssa Wright, Christopher Yauger, Tiffany Yauger, Chairity Yauger, Joy Yauger; great-grandchildren, Ashton Whitley, Peyton Wright; brothers, James W. Smith, Samuel Louis Smith; sisters, Lula Mae Matthews, Celeste Marie Hyde, Ada Calpepper; many nieces, nephews, and other loving and caring family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2007, 2:30 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Cleveland Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. service time.

Carolyn Ann Whitehead Wilson, 51, of Dayton passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2007 in Galveston after an extended illness. She was born January 16, 1956 in Houston, Texas to parents, James Dale Whitehead and Betty Ann Mayhew Whitehead. She was a long time resident of this area and enjoyed doing crafts.
Services for Mrs. Wilson will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2007 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Biddy officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be 9:00 to 5:00, Thursday at the funeral home.

Velma Estelle Bates Freeman, 71, of Baton Rouge passed away Tuesday, October 16 after an extended illness. She was born October 12, 1936 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to parents Andrew Jefferson Bates, Sr. and Betty Elvada Thompson Bates.
Graveside services for Mrs. Freeman will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Hardin Chapel Cemetery in Hardin with Mr. Richard Moody officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday prior to the service at the cemetery. Services are under the arrangement of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.
