Funeral services for Madie McClelland Rhame Sharp, 97, of Lufkin, will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 5th at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4th at Stringer &Griffin; Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sharp died April 2nd at Sam Bridge Nursing Home in Lufkin. She was a native of San Augustine County and a former longtime resident of the Jasper area. She was a teaching instructor over the sewing room in W.P.A. camp. She loved to fish and garden and spent many days on Lake Sam Rayburn trying to catch that Big Fish.
Survivors include son Albert "Speck" Rhame of Pineland, three step-sons Harvey Sharp, Bob Sharp and James Sharp of Houston; two step-daughters Marie Wooten and Virginia Pryer of George Town, Louisiana; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by four children: Cleonia Rhame Pearson, Frances Rhame Dean, John W. Rhame, and Otha Ray Rhame.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home.

ALTON L. SMITH
Alton L. Smith, 85, of Kirbyville, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Dickerson Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Magnolia Springs Cemetery in Magnolia Springs. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at E. E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville.
Born August 4, 1916 in Magnolia Springs to Robert Miley Smith and Pearlie (Horn) Smith, he had lived in Kirbyville since 1967. He was a schoolteacher having taught in Vidor, Buna, and retiring at Bleakwood. He was also a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include two sons; Robert Stephen Smith of Chicago, Illinois and Marc West of Austin; one daughter Linda Burnett and her husband Ronnie of Kirbyville; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home.

Mrs. Essie Beatrice Barrett Bishop, 68, of Palestine, passed away Friday, May 31, 2002 at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital in Houston. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 8, 2002 at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Palestine with burial to follow in the Jerusalem Cemetery in Palestine. A wake will be held Friday, June 7, 2002 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Green Bayou in Houston.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by her mother, Tenise Wilson of Palestine; four sons, Cardell Jerkins, Clyde Jerkins, Rudy Jerkins and Johnny Jerkins all of Houston; six daughters; Glenda O'Neal of Longview, Princella Smith, Thelma Gardiner, Erma Jerkins, Wanda Jerkins and Barbara Edmonson all of Houston; brothers; Frank Barrett, Jr. and Johnny Barrett of Houston and Clint Barrett of Dallas; thirty grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Robinson's Community Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Toni M. Shankle, age 24, formerly of Jasper, will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Greater New Bethel Baptist Church with burial in Campground Cemetery under the direction of Coleman's Mortuary.
She was a native of Jasper, and was presently residing in Dallas. She was a graduate of Jasper High School, Class of ’97. She is survived by a son Xavion Shankle of Defiance, Ohio; her mother Essie Mae Shankle of Jasper; father Henry Beatty of Jasper; and four brothers and two sisters.
