Charles Ray Kirk, 77, of Kirbyville, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital Wednesday May 7, 2008.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on friday May 9, 2008 with interment to follow at the Kirbyville Cemetery. Family will greet public at Forest Oaks Chapel Friday from 10:30 a.m. until service time.
A native of Rockwall, Texas he served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during W.W. II and retired as a Directional Driller, he has resided in Kirbyville for the past 25 years.
Survivors include sons Melvin E. Kirk, Steven D. Kirk, and Micheal R. Kirk all of Houston, Texas a daughter Wyla D. Williams of Kirbyville, Texas brothers Don Kirk of Lufkin, Texas and Melvin Kirk of Dallas, Texas grandchildren Jason, Myranda, Christopher, Mikaela, Justin, Dalton, and Michelle great-grandchildren Zach and Haley.

Douglas W. Stewart, 73, of Pinehurst, passed away May 1, 2008 at his home. A native of Jasper County, and a resident of Orange for the past 44 years, he retired from the plastics division of James River after 30 years of service. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the McDonald Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper. The family will greet the public beginning at 12 Noon until service time at Forest Oaks.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years Mary Childs Stewart of Orange, TX. daughter Angie Stewart of Orange, TX. brother Bill Stewart of Jasper, TX. sisters Olene Harris of Jasper, TX., Anita Black of Shreveport, LA., Evelyn Stott of Jasper, TX., Geraldine Solberg of Pt. Neches, TX., Patsy Davis of Groves, TX., and Gay Folsom of Jasper, TX. along with 2 grandchildren Tolivar and Rylie.
Bette Jo Blakeway
1932 - 2008
Bette Jo Blakeway, 75, of Colmesniel, passed away April 30, 2008 at Woodville Health & Rehabilitation Center. A native of Tyler County, and a longtime resident of Houston, she had retired from the Houston Chronicle Advertising Dept. after many years. Ms. Blakeway enjoyed her yardword and gardening. She was a very faithful member of Mt. Siani Baptist Church where she had served as Secretary for many years.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Siani Baptist Church in the Holly Fork Community in Tyler County under the direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home of Jasper. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Forest Oaks.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas David Blakeway of Colmesniel, TX; Daughter, Bette Ann Touchet and husband Todd of Colmesniel, TX; Son, John Leslie Davis & wife Stephanie of Joshua Tree, CA; Brother, Leslie Louis Conner of Woodville, Texas; Sister, Ettie Eulene Hales of Houston, Texas; along with one grandson, Jeff Davis, and great-granddaughter Alyssa Renee Davis.
Janice Stagg

Janice Stagg, 46, of Ava, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital. A native of Pt. Arthur, and a former longtime resident of Jasper, she had lived in Missouri for the past year and was a homemaker. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 4:00 P.M. at Broussards Chapel in Nederland, under the direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home of Jasper. The family met the public just prior to the service at the chapel. Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Doyle Stagg of Ava, Missouri; Children, Kenneth Stagg and Ashley Stagg both of Ava, Missouri; Brothers, James Uzee of Groves, Texas and David Uzee of Nederland, Texas; sister, Linda Uzee of Nederland, Texas along with 1 grandchild.
Colleen Fuller
1921 - 2008
Thelma Colleen Fuller, 86, of Jasper, passed away Friday, April 25, 2008 at Eden's Edge Assisted Living Center. A native of Dry Prong, LA, she was a longtime resident of Houston where she had retired from Sears & Roebuck after 32 years of service, and had lived in Jasper for some 27 years.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper with burial following at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation were held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Forest Oaks.
Survivors include her nephews, Tommy Manning of Jasper, Texas and Jerry Manning of Lufkin, Texas along with numerous Great Nieces and Nephews, Great-Great Nieces and Nephews, and a host of loving friends.

Harvey Laird
1933 - 2008
Harvey Laird, 74, of Roganville, passed away April 21, 2008 at his home. A native of Tallulah, LA, he had lived in Jasper and Newton County for 36 years and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also Retired from the US Air Force and the Temple Inland Corporation after 21 years of service in each.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Young Community Chapel in Winnsboro, LA with burial to follow at Chase Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening at the chapel.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Laird of Roganville, TX; his sons, Harvey Laird of Kirbyville, TX and Michael Laird of Rigsby, ID; along with 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Charlie Thomas
Charlie Thomas, 88, resident of Jasper, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at his resident. Funeral service will be Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Lone Star District Church in Jasper. Visitation will be 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Indian Creek Cemetery under the direction of Coleman’s Mortuary in Jasper.
Garnett Leon Kelso
1943 - 2008
Garnett Leon Kelso, 64, of Jasper, passed away April 19, 2008 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital. A native of Lyons, Kansas, he was an officer for the Texas Department of Corrections with the Glen Goodman Unit in Jasper. He was also a U.S. Navy Vietnam War Veteran and enjoyed bass fishing, boating, and camping.
Memorial funeral services were held on Friday, April 25, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. at Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper. The family met the public one hour prior to the service at Forest Oaks.
Survivors include his son, Shawn Kelso of Ft. Sam Houston, TX; daughters, Desire'e Kelso of Nacogdoches, TX and Paige Kelso of Arizona; brothers, James Kelso of Tulsa, OK and Roger Kelso of Houston, TX; along with 8 grandchildren.
