Dora "Mae Mae" Champagne, 91, of Brookeland, Texas, died at her home Thursday, February 5, 2009. Visitation will be at Forest Oaks Funeral Home Chapel at 5:00 p.m., with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2009. Funeral services will be held at St. Raymonds Catholic Church in Sam Rayburn, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2009 with interment to follow at West Oaks Cemetery in Jasper, Texas. A native of Delcambre, Louisiana, she had lived in Brookeland for the past 38 years. She owned and operated Poche's Store from 1977 until 1994. "Mae Mae" as she was affectionately known, enjoyed cooking, baking, dancing and birdwatching (especially hummingbirds) She is survived by her husband of 58 years Jean Champagne of Brookeland, and daughters Rita A. Romero of Beaumont and Jerry Elizondo of Coppell, Tx., three grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral services are under the direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper, Texas.
Donald Lee Alexander

Donald Lee Alexander, 68, of Jasper, died at his home Friday morning February 6, 2009 with family by his side. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Forest Oaks Chapel. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 8, 2009 at the Forest Oaks Chapel with interment to follow at the West Oaks Cemetery. A native of Roanoke, Louisiana, he moved to Jasper from Mansfield, Lousiana in 1947. He worked for many years on the Double AA Ranch as Ranch Foreman. He loved ranching, fishing and especially training horses. He is survived by his mother, Blanche "Ma Maw" Alexander, Daughter, Roann and husband, Timmy Pearson, Brother, Harlan and wife, Neva Alexander, Sister, Patsy and husband Leroy Keller, Five Grandchildren: Brittany, Bo, Kelli, Hannah and Logan, Three great-grandchildren: Dreyvan', Aadon and Jude all of Jasper. Services are under the direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper.

Melba Lyn Cash, 59, of Brookeland, Texas died February 10, 2009 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Forest Oaks Chapel. Cremation services were handled by Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory. A native of Beaumont, TX. she moved to Brookeland, TX. 29 years ago, she was employed for many years in the custodial department and also as a assistant with special education students at the Brookeland Independent School District. Survivors include husband John B. Cash of Brookeland, TX. Sons Shon Keeton and James Ray Clubb both of New Caney, TX. Robert Cash of Beaumont, TX. and Johnny Cash of Tallahassee, FL. Daughters Teresa Cash of Beaumont, TX. Vada Cash of Oklahoma City, OK. and Gayle Alway of Michigan. Grandchildren Garrett, Jacob, Dalton, Chrystal, Ericka, Shelly, Siera, and Lacy. as well as numerous step grandchildren. John D. "Johnny" Sowder, 65, of Kirbyville, TX, died February 10, 2009 at his home. A native of Dayton, OH. he moved to Kirbyville 5 years ago. Memorial services will be held Saturday March 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Kirbyville, TX. at the North Bon Ami Baptist Church. Johnny served his country as a member of the US Army and had worked as a Small Engine Repair Mechanic for many years, and loved Drag Racing for many years. Toni S. Howard, 53, of Jasper, died at Jasper Memorial Hospital Friday, February 13, 2009. Private interment services were held on February 14, 2009 at the Olds Cemetery. Memorial services are pending at Forest Oaks Funeral Home & Crematory in Jasper, TX. A native of Baltimore, Maryland she moved to Jasper from Louisiana 29 years ago. Toni was employed as a nurse's aide at the local nursing homes since residing in Jasper. Survivors include a husband Russell W. Howard Jr. Sons Russell Wesley Howard, and Leif Howard Daughters Rebecca Jo Conn and Lacey Skylar Howard all of Jasper, TX. Brothers Clinton Walters, Mark Walters, Sisters Regina Knight all of Maryland and a sister Karla Knight of Kilgore, TX. Grandchildren: Dusty, Dillion Lexxy & Billy Joe. James Elliot Dean, Age 42, of Jasper, died Monday, February 16, 2009. Visitation will be Thursday, February 19 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.at Beech Grove Baptist Church. Services will be held at the Church Friday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Griggs Cemetery in Newton. He is survived by his wife, Molly Duncan Dean and sons James Paul Dean and Joshua Earl Dean, all of Jasper County. By his mother, Christine Patterson of Bay Minette, Alabama. One brother, Tommy Dean of Atlanta, Texas and two sisters Terry Pervis of Sarahland, Alabama and Julie Peters of Russellville, Arkansas. Jimmy L. "Jim" Phlegar, 71, of Woodville, TX, died at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital, Wednesday February 25, 2009. Cremations services were held on Wednesday February 25, 2009 with private memorial services. A native of Anderson, IN. he moved to Dam-B from Eagle River, WI. twelve years ago. Jim was a former truck driver for the Salvation Army and served his country as a member of the National Guard. Survivors include a wife Deborah J. Riley Phlegar of Dam-B. Daughters Amanda Riley of Dam-B, TX. and Stephanie Jones of Houston, TX. Eleven Grandchildren. Services were under direction Forest Oaks Funeral Home & Crematory.

Duane Edward Drummer, Sr., age 69, of Brookeland, Texas, died unexpectedly Saturday Feb. 28, 2009 at his residence. He was a native of Wooden, Iowa and was a long time resident of Capron, IL. before moving to Huffman, TX. and lived the past 4 years in Brookeland, TX. (Which is North of Jasper, TX.) He was a retired engineer from the Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL. He was a veteran of the United States Navy Visitation was held Wednesday March 4 at the Forest Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday March 5 at the Forest Oaks Funeral Home Chapel in Jasper. Veteran Committal services will be held Friday March 6 at 11:15p.m. at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, TX. He is survived by his wife Veryle "Jan" Drummer of Brookeland 2 Daughters Candye Henry and her husband Ron of Oregon, IL. and Cynthia Ashley and her husband Mike of Rockford, IL. 5 Sons Vergil Drummer and his wife Melissa of Huffman, Ronald Drummer and wife Belle of Silsbee, TX. Duane Drummer, Jr. and wife Lynda Kay of Silsbee, TX.
