Donnie Belt, 64, of Brookeland, Texas, died at his home on July 27, 2009. Memorial services will be held at a later date to be announced. A native of Paris, IL. he was a resident of Brookeland, Tx. for the past 17 years. Survivors include a sister June nn Curtis of Paris, IL. Marvin Beard of Buda, TX. and Keith Summers of Mattoon, IL. Donnie was a former employee of Summers Buick and Toyota and was a handyman and caretaker for Ferd and Alberta Beard of Brookeland, TX. Services were under direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory in Jasper, TX.
Maxie Ray Lawson, Jr.

Maxie Ray Lawson, Jr., 48, of Vidor, TX, died at his place of work Ray's Diner on July 28, 2009. A native of Brunswick, Maine he moved to Vidor from Houston, TX, in February 2009. He was the owner and operator of Ray's Diner since moving to Vidor, TX. Private memorial services will be held in Tyler County, Texas at Dam-B. Survivors include stepfather Cecil McCoy of Kirbyville, TX. a son Jason Lawson of Kountze, Tx. Daughters Jennifer Hollis of Kountze, TX, and Jaime Price of Tomball, TX. a Brother David Allen Lawson of Huntsville, TX, and seven grandchildren.

Eula V. Morgan, 75, of Jasper, died at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2009 at Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory with interment to follow at the West Oaks Cemetery in Jasper. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A native of Magnolia Springs, Texas she has lived in Jasper since 1958, after moving here she was the owner and operator of Eula's Fabric Shop and was a longtime member of the Hwy. 96 South Church of Christ. Eula V. as she was known enjoyed white perch fishing, playing 42 and 84 as well as cooking and visiting with friends and family. Survivors include a sister-in-law Edith Bryan of Jasper, TX. Sons Jimmy and wife Mary Ann Morgan of Jasper, TX., David and wife Mary Morgan of Modesto, CA., and Charlie and wife Becky Morgan of Missouri City, TX. a Brother Joe Turner of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Grandchildren Jim and wife Ashley, Andy and wife Wendy, Chad, Jamey, and Erik. great-grandchildren Chloe, and Colby. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. Wilma L. Cook
1920 - 2009
Wilma L. Cook, 89, of Houston, TX, died Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Triumph Hospital Northwest in Houston, TX. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory in Jasper, TX. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in Jasper, TX. The family will greet public Tuesday morning from 10:30 until service time.
A native of Wismar, Germany, she resided in Jasper from 1978 until moving to be with her son in Houston in 1999. She was a member of Curtis Methodist Church and enjoyed the art of quilting. She is survived by her son Klaus and wife Lydia Cook of Houston, grandchildren Jeffrey and Tricia, and great-grandchildren Josephine, Caroline, Robert, and Ann.
A favorite Bible verse of hers was John 14:1-6 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Allen Vernon Powell, 76, of Nederland, TX, died at Renaissance in Groves, TX. September 9, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday September 12, 2009 at Forest Oaks Funeral Home & Crematory with private interment services to follow at the Hebron Cemetery in San Augustine County. Visitation will be held on Friday September 11, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A native of Jasper County he was a pastor for 48 years in central and east Texas in the Missionary Baptist Churches. He married his wife Ruth Dolores Powell December 10, 1953 in Brookeland, TX. other survivors include sons Kenneth Powell and wife Rose of Port Arthur, TX. and Robert Allen Powell of Ft. Worth, TX. a daughter Judy Diane Hua and life partner Nancy of Ada, MI. brothers Arthur Ray Powell of Diboll, TX. Almond Powell of Woodville, TX. Virgil Powell and Milburn Powell both of Lufkin, TX. sisters Thelma Hoffman of Brookeland, TX. and Marie Tucker of Beaumont, TX. grandchildren Melissa Smith and husband Robert, Wayne Powell, Cindy Terrell and husband Ricky, Kenny Hua, Eric Gallier, and Brady Cullen. great-grandchildren Kori Smith, Tre' Smith, Robyn Terrell, Isaac Terrell, and Katy Terrell. God saw that he was getting tired and a cure was not to be, So He put His arm around him and whispered, "Come with Me". With tearful eyes, we watched him suffer and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, a determined spirit was at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

Lorayne McNaughten, 91, of Brookeland, TX, died at Timberlake Health and Rehabilitation Center in Jasper, TX. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. A native of Carthage, TX. she was a 1936 graduate of Jasper High School she owned and operated Lorayne's Beauty Shop. Survivors include a daughter Tanya McNaughten of Brookeland, TX. as well as four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
