Alice Byerly Baker
1924 - 2009

Alice "Pud" M. Byerly Baker, 84, of Jasper, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Thursday, September 17, 2009. Visitation will be at Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper, Friday, September 18 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19 at the Forest Oaks Chapel, with interment to follow at the West Oaks Cemetery. Alice was born October 2, 1924 at Spindletop, Jefferson County. She attended South Park School and graduated from Vidor High School in 1942. She attended American Institute of Banking in Beaumont and Galveston. She worked at First Hutching Sealy National Bank in Galveston, Tx. First State Bank in Vidor and Dickinson State Bank in Dickinson, Tx. She had a 30 year career in banking and loved every minute. Alice moved to Jasper in 1988 and was a member of the Church of Christ Highway 96 South. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger C. Baker of Jasper; her parents Jessie and Ladema Byerly of Vidor; brothers J. V. Byerly, Ernest Byerly and Bill Byerly; sister Dorothy Roussel; daughter Deborah Sue Sterling and son-in-law John J. Jaworski. She is survived by her daughter Joyce Ann Sterling Jaworski of Mount Vernon, Ohio. Grandchildren Todd S. and Robyn R. Renfro of Atascadero, Ca., Susan E. Jaworski of Katy, Tx., Stephan Steed of Hawaii, Deidre Steed and Stephanie Steed of Dickinson, Tx., Misti Summer Night and Zachary Pennington of Houston, TX; Great-grandchildren Teddy Jaworski, Alissa A. Renfro, Andrea Renfro, Jeremiah J. Renfro, Isabella Renfro, Isaac Renfro, Brandon Hamburg, Bryan Hamburg and Nicolas Coons. Brother Stephen Byerly of Orange and sister Thelma Smith of Mauriceville. Special friends Leslie Patrick, Lori Coleman, Gracie Stewart and Emma Stewart. A host of other relatives and friends from Jasper, Vidor, Galveston, Dickinson, and Houston. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association or for the construction of Church of Christ Jasper Teen Center 1830 S. Wheeler Jasper, TX. 75951. Services are under the direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper.

Gail Gerren Blackburn
1952 - 2009

Gail "Lil Bit" Gerren Blackburn, 56, of Jasper, died at Jasper Nursing and Rehabilitation On Saturday, September 19, 2009. Private memorial services will be held at the family home. A native of Lufkin, TX. she has lived in the Sam Rayburn Community for the past 15 years, while living in this area she was employed with Wal-Mart in Jasper. Survivors include a husband Marvin Gerren of Sam Rayburn. Son Steven Reid of Huntington, TX. Sister Diane Sims of Lufkin, TX. and six Grandchildren Austin, Morgan, Liam, Sean, Paul and Connie.

Billy Wayne Hudson
1933 - 2009

Billy Wayne Hudson passed on September 24, 2009 at the age of 76. He leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years Irene Hudson and daughter Nina Lea Copley. Bill and Irene were married December 21, 1975. He also leaves behind his 5 grandchildren Daniel Joseph Digilio, Michaela Nicole Digilio, Bryan Pavon, Brandon Barnes and Jordan Barnes. He also leaves behind his step-granddaughter Meadow Renee Greenville. They had a beautiful life together and he will be greatly missed by all. A private internment will be held Friday, September 25, 2009 at the Houston National Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Plum Ridge Baptist Church in Zavalla, Texas at 11:00 a.m.

Joanne Smith Walker
1930 - 2009

Joanne Smith Walker, 78, of Jasper, died at Timberlake Health and Rehabilitation Friday morning September 25, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Monday September 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with interment to follow at the Sanders Cemetery in Jasper. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Growing up in Jasper, Joanne loved horses and was the first Jasper Rodeo Queen; she graduated from Jasper High School in 1949. A dedicated wife to Dallas Walker since 1989, a mother of three, Joanne lived selflessly for her family and enjoyed doing for others. One of her passions was cooking. A Texas State Fair blue ribbon winner for her cinnamon rolls, Joanne was well-known for her culinary skills. After retiring to Jasper, Joanne and her husband, Dallas, enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. Joanne enjoyed a full life until succumbing to Alzheimer's. The family would like to thank the staff of Timberlake Health and Rehabilitation Center of Jasper.
Survivors include a husband, Dallas W. Walker of Jasper, TX, daughter, Lisa Ann French Lindstrom of The Woodlands, TX, sons, Robert Lane French and wife, Raenell Doyle of Yelm, WA and Lonnie Gerald French of San Antonio, TX, and sister, Brenda Witte of Dallas, TX. Her grandchildren include John Zachary Williams, Kylee Ann French, Shannon Leigh French, Colin Burton French, and Aaron Archer French. A Great-Grandchild, Mason Lane Gibbons. Pallbearers are Aaron Archer French, Colin Burton French, Ryan McKnight, Sam Yeary, Willie Yeary, and H.V. Swearingen. Clergy will be Rev. Dick White. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church 329 N. Bowie St. Jasper, TX. 75951.

John Clayton Baker
1928 - 2009

John Clayton "Johnny" Baker, 81, of Jasper, died at the Park Manor in Conroe, TX. on Wednesday October 28, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday October 31, 2009 at the Harvest Way Church in Jasper with interment to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Family will greet visitors Friday evening at Forest Oaks Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A native of Waskom, TX. he was a lifelong resident of Dam-B and Jasper, he served his country as a member of the US Navy and later was the owner and operator of the store known as Johnny and Jack's and later as Johnny and Sons located at Dam-B. Survivors include his son John C. Baker II and wife Karen of Montgomery, TX. a Sister Dorothy Houston of Dallas, TX. and Three Grandchildren Jennifer, Amy, and John III all of Montgomery, TX. Services under direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory in Jasper, TX.

Inez Brooks Murray
1918 - 2009

Inez Brooks Murray, 91, of Jasper, died at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital Wednesday morning, November 11, 2009. Family will greet friends at Forest Oaks Funeral Home on Friday, November 13th from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Peachtree Baptist Church on Saturday, November 14th at 10:00 AM. Graveside services to be conducted by the Eastern Star of Jasper at the Hancock Cemetery. Lunch will be provided by the church and Eastern Star immediately after the graveside service at the Peachtree Baptist Church.
Inez moved with her family to the Peachtree Community in 1918 from Henderson, TX. She lived throughout Texas--Jasper, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Dallas & Houston, but Peachtree was always home. She loved to travel whether it was to Germany, Hawaii, or just around town--she never sat still. Travel provided her the opportunity to make new friends, see old ones, and to share food. She loved the community and enjoyed cooking for everyone! She catered to all until the very end with her tamales, fried pies, "Trash", jellies, and cakes. Her Christmas baskets will be missed this year.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Cindy & Detlef Bittner of Honolulu, HI, son and daughter-in-law Tim & Jeanette Murray of Jasper, TX, brother Otis Brooks of Henderson, TX, sister-in-law Joan Brooks, son-in-law J.C. Smith of Jasper, TX. 11 grandchildren: Colleen Smith Garcia, Judy Smith Fisher, Janelle Smith Templeton, Clay Smith, Christi Smith Seale, Chris Murray, Dustin Murray, Sean Murray, Ashley Murray, Ty Murray, and Dominique Bittner. 11 great-grandchildren: David Garcia, Paul Garcia, Julie Garcia, Brandon Fisher, Jessica Fisher, Caleb Templeton, Josh Templeton, Jacob Smith, Logan Smith, Kaleah Hagaman, Lana Rose Seale and two great-great-grandchildren, Carly and Zach Fisher.
Pallbearers are nephews: Gene Hancock, Dean Hancock, Ron Hicks, Ed Harris, Keith Belew, Danny White, Eddie Brooks, and Mark Brooks.
She was preceded in death by husband Thomas Marvin Murray, daughter Betty Smith, and siblings: Gertie Hancock Lanier, Odessa Harris, Annie Belle Belew, Maureen Hicks, Eddie Preston Brooks, Jr., and Geraldine Bryant.
Flowers are welcomed as are contributions to the Peachtree Baptist Church Building Fund.

Natasha Jean Robertson
2009 - 2009

Natasha Jean Robertson, 4 month old daughter of Jeremy and Tiffiney Robertson of Houston, TX. died at North Cypress Hospital in Houston, TX. on Thursday November 12, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 14, 2009 at 3:00 p.m.at the Zion Hill Baptist Church with interment to follow at the Zion Hill Cemetery. Family will greet public from 2:00 p.m. until service time Saturday at the Church. A native of Longview, TX, she lived for the past 4 months in Houston, TX. Survivors include Great-Grandparents Linda and Fred Morgan of Jasper, TX. Grandfather, George Robertson of Houston, TX. and Charles Mann of Jasper, TX. Grandmother, Carol Robertson of Lindale, TX. and Fredia Morgan of Jasper, TX. Brother Colby Robertson of Houston, TX, and Sisters Summer and Nevaeh Robertson, both of Houston, TX. God knew who she'd be long before he shared her with us.
Natasha was her special name and was always meant to be.
"N" for Nevaeh's little baby sister
"A" cuz she was the apple of Jeremy's eye
"T" for Tippy's little squirt.
"A" cuz she'll always be forever in our hearts
"S" for her sweet innocent, little soul.
"H" for her tiny halo and itty bitty wings.
"A" for all the angel kisses and hugs, she'll shine from up above.
