Elbert Harris, 86, of Jasper, died at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital Monday November 16, 2009. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, at Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory. Services will be held Wednesday, November 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Oaks Chapel with interment to follow at Little Hope Cemetery in Jasper. He is survived by his wife Oline Harris of Jasper; son Larry Harris of Trinity and daughter Susie Platt of Jasper. Four grandchildren-Michael, Michelle, Jonas and Jamie and three great-grandchildren Macy, Meagan and Tyler. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Little Hope Cemetery Fund 920 Co. James Whitcomb Truett
1929 - 2009
James Whitcomb Truett, 80, of Sweeny, TX, died Thursday, November 19, 2009, following heart surgery in Houston. James was born in Jasper, TX. to Richard and Alpha Truett. He was a longtime resident of Sweeny and had worked 30 plus happy years at Philips Petroleum and was enjoying his retirement. His kind and gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny with interment to follow at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 24, 2009. Left behind to cherish his memories are his son Rusty Truett of Bulgaria sisters Blanche Ward and Janice Weathersby both of Montgomery, TX. as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Georgia Blanchette Gunter, 84, of New Caney, TX, died at the Country Haven Senior Care in Cleveland, TX. Sunday November 22, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Forest Oaks Chapel with interment to follow at the Hancock Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A native of Grand Chinier, LA. she lived in Orange, TX. and was employed as a welder at the shipyard during World War II, Georgia was employed with Western Auto after the war and moved to Jasper in 1971 where she was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church, she moved to New Caney to be with family several years ago. Survivors include Nephew and caregiver Donnis and Darlene Collier of New Caney, TX. a brother Donald H. Blanchette of Orange as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllis Anna Burk, 86, of Jasper, died at her home Tuesday, November 24, 2009. Cremation service will be held on November 25, 2009 with cremains to be scattered at her favorite location in the desert. A native of Middletown, OH, she reside in Germantown, OH, until after retiring and traveling for many years. Phyllis moved to Jasper 23 years ago. Survivors include her husband, H. Stanley Burk of Jasper, TX; a son, Gerald E. Stricklin of New Lebanon, OH; a daughter, Gena Rene Kelley of Jasper, TX; brother, Marvin Blankenship of Camden, OH; and a sister, Virginia Ross of Camden, OH. Two Grandchildren Jeanette, and Joyce as well as numerous Great-Grandchildren.

Raymond Pace, 76, of Jasper, died at his home Tuesday evening December 1, 2009. A native of Aransas Pass, TX. he worked overseas for many years in the Oil Refining business and moved to Jasper, TX. from Saudi in 1985 after retiring. Survivors include his wife Nancy Pace of Jasper, TX. a son Nolan "Bug" Hill Jr. of Jasper, TX. daughters Candy Dodson of Wylie, TX., Tamara Hill of Jasper, TX. and Dena Garza of Aransas Pass, TX. a brother Kenneth Pace of Aransas Pass, TX. Ten Grandchildren and Twelve great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter Cynthia Sutton of Bay City, TX. Lorena Minyard Patrick, 85, of Jasper, a precious and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Friday morning, January 15, 2010, at home with her family. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 17, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Beech Grove Baptist Church. Visitation will precede the service at 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Her burial will follow the funeral service at Smith Cemetery in Beech Grove. Lorena was born on October 18, 1924, to Milford Lee Ratcliff and Tressie Lou Smith. She was a lifetime resident of Jasper, Texas, and a longtime active member of Beech Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Thomas "Dub" Minyard and Charles Loren Brady, and her brother, M. S. "Sleepy" Ratcliff. She is survived by her husband, G. W. Patrick; her sister, Louise Martindale Patrick; her brothers, Buck Ratcliff and Kelly Ratcliff; her daughters, Hilda Ann McLeod and husband, Terry McLeod and Kay Dianne Seale and husband, James Seale; her grandchildren, Holly Thomas, Troy McLeod, Angela Seale Gordon, Stan Seale and Rachel Street; her great-grandchildren, Thomas Jared Taylor and Tyler Gordon, Olivia, Luke, Loni McLeod, Kaleah Hagamen, Lana Rose Seale, Emily and Kolt Thomas, and Mac Street and numerous nieces and nephews. Lorena "Nannie" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Her legacy exemplified the "virtuous woman" scriptures from Proverbs 31. Services under the direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper.

Virginia Gail Bates, 66, of Henderson, TX, died at the Southwood Nursing and Rehabilitation in Henderson, Tx. Funeral services will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Henderson, Tx Friday, January 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at the Moyers Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday prior to services from 12:00 noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. Mrs Bates was born January 13, 1943 in Henderson and was a longtime resident of Jasper, TX. She passed away January 11, 2010 at Southwood Nursing Home in Henderson, Texas where she has lived for the past couple of years. After graduating from Henderson High School, she began Nursing school and became a nurse. She married Jack L. Bates Sr. in 1967 then made their way to Jasper where they raised their four children. Mrs. Bates known to many as Mom or Grandmom was a loving mother to her children and their friends. She was preceded in death by parents Joe Bridwell Hunt and Macie Jordan Hunt, husband Jack L. Bates Sr. and a daughter Nita Gail Martindale. Survivors include a daughter Jana and husband Randy Wagstaff, sons Jack L. Bates II, Joe W. and wife Tracy Bates. The family would like to extend their thanks to the employees of Southwood Nursing Home and the nursing staff with Heart to Heart Hospice of Tyler. Marion Louise Westbrook, 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 in a local hospital. She was a loving mother and grandmother who raised her grandchildren, Robert Westbrook and Toyua Dupree. She was a member of Westlake Church of God. She was a cashier for over 20 years at Kerry-A-Sak and Randy's Grocery in Westlake. Survivors include her sons, James R. Westbrook Jr. and wife, Regena of Opelousas, LA, Kenneth L. Westbrook and wife, Donna Kay of Sulphur, LA; daughters, Beth Hetzler and husband, Joe of Westlake, LA, Pam Farris and husband, Grady of Many, LA; brothers, Dudley R. Dixon and wife, Flora of Westlake, LA, Edwin, "Sonny" G. Dixon and wife, Lillian of Westlake, LA, Jerry L. Dixon and wife, Becky of Norfolk, VA; sisters, Helen M. Budge and husband Ray Sr. of Moss Bluff, LA; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Westbrook Sr.; son, Edwin "Eddie" Westbrook; parents, Edwin and Eolian Dixon. Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake. Rev.
