Lynda Marie "Maw Maw" Morgan, 63, of the Erin Community passed away at her home, Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21 2010 at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Jasper, TX, with interment to follow at the Zion Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Services under direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper. A native and life-long resident of Jasper. Married to Fred Morgan July 31, 1965, she was a loving wife and mother. Maw Maw was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Marcelle Morton and a granddaughter, Natasha Robertson. Survivors include husband, Fred Morgan of Jasper; daughters, Vicki and Ricky Cunningham of Benton LA; Freda Morgan of Jasper, TX; Loretta and husband, Larry Bean of Bossier City, LA; and Tasha and husband, Michael Chamlee of Sarepta, LA; brother, Earnst Morton of Jasper, TX; sisters, Annette Neel of Jasper, TX; and Charlotte Mathews of Anahuac, TX. Grandchildren, Whitney Schnooberger and husband, Matt, Tiffiney Robertson and husband, Jeremy, Shea Bean, Taylor Bean, and Ty Wittwer; great-grandchildren, Riley Shnooberger, Karlie Shnooberger, and Nevaeh Robertson.

Elizabeth J. Williams, 74, of Kirbyville, Texas, died at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory in Jasper. A native of Weatherly, PA, she moved to Kirbyville from Weatherly in 1987. Survivors include husband, Marshall "Mike" Williams of Kirbyville, TX; and sons, John C. Williams of Kirbyville, TX, and Marshall M. Williams Jr. of Beaver Meadows, PA; a daughter, Melissa Jane Ortega of Houston, TX; brothers, Norman Weigand of Easton PA, and John C. Weigand of Weatherly, PA; a sister, Ruth Anne Tizekker of Weatherly, PA; grandchildren, Bryant Alexander, Andrew, and Leslie Ann; great-grandchildren, Ronnie, Givon, and Elijah.
James Burton Smith

James Burton "Smitty" Smith, 77, of Jasper, died at home on Monday, May 24, 2010. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory. Family will greet friends at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A native of Groveton, TX, he moved to Jasper from Onalaska, TX, in 2004. He was employed with the IBEW for many years until retiring. Survivors include a daughter, Melissa and husband, Don Young of Jasper, TX; Special friends, Anna Midkiff, Barbara Hataway, John Kelly and Bessie Jordan; Grandchildren, Ranie, Jaydon, Kane, Misty, Guy and Chief.
Helen Cooper Freeman
1913 - 2010
Helen Cooper Freeman, 96, of DeSoto, TX, died May 26, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010 with private interment to follow at the Ebenezer Cemetery. Family will greet the public from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory in Jasper. A native of Troup, TX, she attended school at a one room class located at Harvey Creek in Broaddus, TX, walking to and from school with her sister, Florine. Helen moved to DeSoto, TX, in 1951, where she attended Draughn's business school and started her working career at the Baptist Book Store. Later, she was employed with Cokesbury Book Store, at which time she met and married her late husband, Herman Freeman, whom she shared 25 years of wedded bliss before both developed Alzheimer's around the same time. A longtime member of the Bruton Baptist Church in Dallas, where Herman was a deacon for many years. Helen had a loving kind spirit and will be missed by all her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; brother, James Worthy Cooper; a sister, Florine Cooper Jackson, a niece Nora Lou Jackson Coulter a grand niece Julie and a son-in-law Charles Herndon. Survivors include a daughter Marcie Herndon of DeSoto, TX; a grandson, Shawn Herndon of Cornwall, NY; niece, Cora Sue Jackson Perry of Colorado; nephew, James Jackson of Cedar Hill, TX; great-nephew, Jim Jackson; great-niece, Sharon Mooring, and Paula Hicks. Numerous other loving family members and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
Annie J. Jones
1935 - 2010
Annie J. Jones (precious angel) went home to be with her Lord on May 29, 2010. She was born to Ashley and May Kincel on May 21, 1935. A native of Jasper, she lived here until 1987, when she moved to El Dorado, Arkansas. She served many years nursing her patients and she truly loved her job. She enjoyed helping her neighbors and others less fortunate than her.
Services will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Forest Oaks Chapel with interment to follow at the Weeks Chapel Cemetery. The family will greet public at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Charles. Her survivors include a daughter, Audrey Eason Marlar and husband, John, four grandchildren, Roger Lynch, Melissa & John Wade, Angela & Todd Faircloth, and Justin Eason; as well as 11 great-grandchildren and sisters Iva Lee Lowe, Rosie Lynch, Zuma Warner and Katherine Ellison. Deborah Jean Grable, 56, of Hemphill, TX, died at her home on Monday, May 31, 2010. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Pius 10th Catholic Church in Beaumont, Texas. Deborah graduated from Kelly High School and received her MBA at Lamar University. She was passionate about the people she loved and her many hobbies which included bird watching, fishing, boating, music and her cats and dogs. Deborah loved God and her spiritual journey was to be admired by all. Deborah put her heart and soul into all she endeavored whether it be politics or Chula Vista. We love and miss you and your spirit will always be with us. I Love You - TLC
A private ceremony was held Thursday, June 3, 2010 with family and close friends.
Vernon Smith
1944 - 2010
Vernon Smith, 65, of Jasper, died at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital Wednesday, June 2, 2010. Private services were held on Wednesday afternoon with interment at the North Baptist Cemetery in Jasper. A native of Rome, Georgia, he lived in Newton, Texas, before moving to Jasper, in 2000. Vernon retired from Georgia Power as a Plant Foreman and served his country as a SSGT in the U.S. Army. Survivors include sons, Alan Smith of Jasper, Texas, and Kenny Smith of Georgia.
