H. C. Dickerson, 86, of Jasper, died at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, TX, on Thursday, November 4, 2010. Funeral services are Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 4pm at First United Methodist Church in Jasper, Texas, with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 5-7pm at Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory in Jasper, TX. H.C. "Grandad" Dickerson was born January 8, 1924 in Joinerville, Texas. He was preceded in death by wife of 51 years, Betty Jo Bott Dickerson, son Paul Hillyer Dickerson, and grandson, Ryan Hunter Dickerson. He attended Kilgore Junior College, Stephen F. Austin, Louisiana Tech, and Texas A&M University. He received degrees in Forestry and Horticulture and a Master's degree in Agriculture. He served his country as a Staff Sargent during World War II in the US Army Air Corps. He was the Manager of Hart Creosoting Co. for 40 years. In Jasper, he was a well-known member of The First United Methodist Church, President of Seekers Sunday school class, past President of Jasper Lions Club and Lions Club Rodeo, a member of the Dewitt Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 29, as well as a member of the Scottish Rite Shriner El Nina, Chamber of Commerce Envoy, City Council Member, and a board member of the Three Rivers Council Boy Scouts of America, having received the Silver Beaver Award. This past May, he was the 'Grandest' Grand Marshall of the Jasper Lions Club Rodeo Parade. H.C. was a man who could put a smile on anyone's face and will be remembered as a kind and loving Friend, Father, and Grandad. He is survived by Sons, Larry Chandler and wife, Judy Dickerson of Jasper, Texas; Ronny Joe and wife, Lynn Dickerson of Modesto, California; Grandchildren, Abby Caroline, Hannah Hillyer, and Ross Chandler Dickerson. Charles Robert "Poog" Smith, 88, of Jasper, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital. He was born November 2, 1922 in Pineland, TX, to Ben and Mittye Smith, Sr. A 67-year resident of Jasper, Poog was employed with Tennessee Gas Transmission for 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Mittye Smith, Sr.; a brother, Ben Smith, Jr. and two sisters, Doris Pickle and Beatrice Braswell. He is survived by Dorothy Pace Smith, his wife of 59 years, and his daughter, Melissa Ann Smith, both of Jasper. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army and was also an Eagle Scout and Scout Master. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist of Jasper. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 16 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, November 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Oaks Chapel with interment to follow at the West Oaks Cemetery services are under the direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home & Crematory of Jasper. Aola "Skin" Fountain, 89, of Jasper, died at Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin, TX on Tuesday morning, November 16, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2010, with interment to follow at the Hancock Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. A native of Shelby County, Texas, she was a resident of Jasper for the past 73 years. Survivors include sons, Joe and wife, Melissa Fountain of Broaddus, TX; Tommy and wife, Teresa Fountain, Sammy Fountain, Kenneth and wife, Julie Fountain, all of Jasper, TX; Daughter-in-Law, Lotti Fountain of Timpson, TX; a brother, E.D. Ella Faye Smith, 79, of Jasper, TX, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 19, 2010. Funeral services will be held at Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Crematory in Jasper, TX, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 2010, with private interment to follow at the West Oaks Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. on Monday until service time. Faye was an active member in her church and sang in the choir. She was co-leader of the Pilgrims with her husband, Harris, for several years. Faye studied voice as a young child and sang on the radio KORC in Mineral Wells, TX, and WBAP and WFFA in Dallas and Ft. Worth, TX. She also sang for the USO and at the hospital at Camp Walters. Survived by her children, Vera Holland of Jasper, TX, Jacquelyn and husband, Woody Thompson of Killeen, TX, John and wife, Dora Holland of Fresno, CA, Rocky and wife, Lilly Smith of Johnson City, TX, and Michael and wife, Patti Smith of Johnson City, TX; sister, Maxine Swan of Aberdeen, WA. along with seven grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harris E. Smith, her parents, Claude M. Wells and Effie Wells, two sisters, Marietta Caruthers, Dorothy Crosland and a brother, Claude M. Wells, Jr. Serving as pallbearers will be Frederick E. Thompson, Jonathan A. Thompson, Jim Turner, Kenneth Green, Don Davis, Herman Wilcox, Billy McMahon and Bennie Hollingsworth. Kathy Dianne Tully Turner, 59, of Bleakwood, and a former resident of Orange, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at her home.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange, with Reverend David Berkheimer and Reverend Randy Fults, officiating. Burial will follow at Trout Creek Cemetery near Kirbyville.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at funeral home in Orange.
Born in Orange on September 9, 1951, Kathy was the daughter of Jack Harrell Tully and Ruth Allene (Freeman) Tully.
Dr. Joe Wesley Dickerson

Ret. Lt. Col. Joe Wesley Dickerson M.D., "Dr. Joe", 96, of Jasper, TX, died at Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin, TX, on November 24, 2010. Visitation will be held at Forest Oaks Funeral Home, Friday, November 26, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 27, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper. He was born on November 1, 1914 in Rocky Springs, Texas, to John Culbertson Dickerson and Bertie Elizabeth Wilcox Dickerson. He was a longtime Jasper resident and one of the oldest practicing physicians in Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth McRae Dickerson. He is survived by daughters, Pamela Kincannon and Regina Hunt and son, John Dickerson and wife, Brenda, all of Jasper. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. "Dr. Joe", as he was affectionately known, graduated from Kirby High School in Woodville, Texas, Stephen F. Austin State University and The University of Texas Medical School in Galveston. He served in WWII in the U. S. Army Air Corp where he attained the rank of Major. He then went on to serve in the U. S. Air Force Reserves and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He collaborated with author Martin Cadin on the book, "The Fork Tailed Devil" a history of the P 38 fighter plane which he flew. He came to Jasper in 1946 and began his medical practice at Hardy Hancock Hospital. In 1964, he founded Mary E. Dickerson Memorial Hospital, named after his late wife, and the William Sanders Clinic, named for his partner, Dr. William Sanders. He was a founding board member of First National Bank of Jasper. Dr. Joe was an avid reader. He enjoyed traveling, history and archeology. He did extensive study and held lectures on the Shroud of Turin. He was a Distinguished Honoree of the Foundation on Judaism and Christian Origins and helped discover documents that contributed to translating the Dead Sea Scrolls. But his life's love was being a country doctor and taking care of his patients. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department at P. O.
