Mrs. Ernst Funeral Set

WINTERS - Funeral for Mrs. Charles F. Ernst, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. John Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Walter Probst, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, under direction of Spill Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ernst died at 4:55 p.m. Monday in the Merrill Rest Home in Winters.

She had been in ill health several years and in a nursing home five years.

Born Aug. 23, 1882, at Lavonia, Mich., she came with her parents to Texas at an early age.

Her father was a Lutheran minister.

In 1899, they moved to Winters, where her father was pastor of the Lutheran Church.

On Dec. 27, 1900, she married Mr. Ernst here.

They lived on a farm south of Winters, until 1954, when they moved to Winters.

Mr. Ernst died in 1958.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Herman Spill of Winters, and Mrs. Charlie Barry of Abilene; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Albina Holubek (nee Urban)
Lowake Woman Dies in House Fire

Ballinger - An 84-year-old widow died in a fire which destroyed her farm home near Lowake, Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Joe Holubek, a native of Runnels County, was living alone at the house.

No other injuries were reported.

Justice of the Peace Harry Ringle ruled the death was accidental.

Lowake and Rowena Fire Department officials said the cause of the fire was unknown.

Services for Mrs. Holubek will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rains-Seal Funeral Home in Ballinger.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Rowena.

Born Albina Urban, July 5, 1893, she was a member of S.P.J.S.T.J. Lodge in Rowena.

She married Joe Holubek, Feb. 22, 1912, in Rowena.

He died August 14, 1970.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ella Kudlacek of Ballinger; six sons Alfonse of Wall, Edward of Eola, Arnold and Julius, both of Rowena, Pete of Melvin, and Milton of Hereford; a brother, Charlie of Wall; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A daughter preceded her in death.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Illness Fatal to Winters Trader

Winters, April 8 - Joe Vinyard, 60, prominent livestock trader and farmer, died at his home here tonight after a long illness.

He had been in failing health three years, and for the last 40 days had been bedfast.

Funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 at the Methodist church.

Officiating will be the Rev. W.T. Hamon, Baptist pastor, and the Rev. W.L. Hankis, Methodist minister here.

Burial will be in Main Street cemetery.

The body will lie in-state at Spill Funeral Home, until time for the service.

Vinyard had been one of the most active stock traders in this section for many years.

Born Oct. 1, 1879, in Alabama, he had lived in Texas, since a child.

He came to Winters country in 1895, from Van Alstyne.

With exception of the period from 1922 to 1930 spent in Lamesa, he had lived here all that time.

He had resided in town the last eight years.

Survivors are the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Eula Hively of Artesia, N.M., and Mrs. Myrtle Noe of Seagraves; one son, Jack of Crews, six grandchildren, three brothers and a sister.

Lena A. Pruette (nee Heilig)
Funeral Pending for Winters Woman

Winters, Oct. 21 - Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Mrs. Jack Pruette, 59, a resident of Winters, since 1826, who died in her home here at 3:45 am Tuesday.

They will be announced by Spill Funeral Home on Wednesday.

Mrs. Pruette had been in ill health for a number of years and in serious condition since Sunday.

She was born Lena A. Heilig on October 30, 1892 in East St. Louis, and was married to Jack Pruette in Carlisle, Illinois, on June 8, 1915.
They lived in Carlisle, until 1920, when they came to Ballinger.

In 1922, they moved near Winters, and to the town of Winters, in 1926.

She was a member of the Germany Evangelical Church.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Capt. Norman L. Pruette, now of Okinawa, J. Norris Pruette and Royce Gladden Pruette, both of Carlsbad, NM, and Dennis, a freshman in Winters, High School; six daughters, Mrs. Roger Kerr of Erie, Pennsylvania, Mrs. J.E. Lynn and Jacqueline Pruette, both of Odessa, Mrs. John Pelechak [should be Telepchak] of Newark, Ohio, and Julia Pruette, a student in Winters High School; two sisters, Mrs. Roy Scully of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mrs. Lillie Van Dornis of East St. Louis, Missouri; and one brother, Charles Heilig of East St. Louis.

C.F. Ernst, 82, Dies of Stroke; Rites at Winters
Born: 4 May 1874 Germany
Died: 29 November 1956

Winters Nov. 30 - Funeral for C. F. Ernst, 82, pioneer Winters resident, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Mr. Ernst died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at his home after suffering a stroke earlier in the afternoon.

The Rev. H. K. Flathman, pastor, is to officiate.

A brief religious service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Spill Funeral Home Chapel, followed by the funeral at the church at 2:30 p.m.

Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Ernst was born in Wurtenberg, Germany, on May 4, 1874, and came to the United States, in 1883 with his parents.

He lived in Travis, Burnett, and Fayette counties, before coming to Runnels County, in 1889.

On Dec. 27, 1900, he was married to Mary Bunge.

Mr. Ernst farmed near here, until he moved to town 2 1/2 years ago.

Survivors include his wife; two adopted daughters, Mrs. Herman Spill and Mrs. Ray Riddle, both of Winters; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Frick and Mrs. Will Minzenmayer, both of Winters; four brothers, Adolph and Louis, both of Winters, Willie of Wilson, and Fritz of California; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Ethel Jenkins (nee Goats)
Born: 15 June 1882, Novice, Coleman County, TX
Died: 11 March 1983, Abilene, Taylor County, TX

Ethel E. Jenkins, 89, formerly of Novice, died at 9:30 p.m. at the Care Inn Nursing Home.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, at Elliott-Hammill Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory.

The Rev. Jack Riddlehoover, pastor of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Price Mathieson, chaplain at Hendrick Medical Center.

Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Born June 15, 1882 in Novice, she moved to Abilene, in 1942 from Novice.

She married Sam B. Jenkins, Dec. 28, 1909 in Winters.

Her husband preceded her in death.

She was a housewife and a member of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters; a brother; two sisters; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
