Gaytan
Rosendo Gaytan, 52, of the San Gabriel area died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006 in an Austin Hospital. He was born March 1, 1954 to Manuel and Amelia (Ortiz) Gaytan.
He was preceded in death by his father Manuel and sister Petra Cortez.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Woods of Rockdale; mother, Amelia Gaytan of Bartlett; step-daughter, Erin Woods of Rockdale; step-son, Shane Woods and wife Ashley of Dallas; seven step-grandchildren, five sisters, Naomi Garcia and husband Manuel of Bartlett, Mona White and husband Albert of Lynchburg, VA, Norma Brost and husband Strom of Sahuarita, Arizona, Nereida Everidge and husband Mickey of Lynchburg, VA and Nellie Gaytan of Bartlett; brother, Juan Manuel Gaytan and wife Darwina of Gonzales; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Bartlett with Rev. Robert Solorio officiating. Burial will follow in the Barlett City Cemetery.
King
Dorothy Dell Cook King, 76, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006 at Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital in Houston.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Jack Chelf of First Baptist Church in Rockdale officiating. Private burial followed the service.
Mrs. King was born Jan. 17, 1930 in Rockdale to Ollie and Carrie (Mathews) Cook. She married Charles King on Oct. 5, 1968 in Mexico.
She was a graduate of Rockdale High School.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Pearl Lumpkins, and her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Charles King of Houston; five sons, Tommy King and wife Sharon of Rock Port, Ronnie King and wife Lori of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Sammy King and wife Tina of Cleveland, Tennessee, Pete Ware of Houston and Billy Ware and wife Anita of Houston; two daughters, Donna Cooper and husband George of Houston and Janet Box and husband Terry of Houston; sister, Hazel Daniel and husband Charlie of Missouri City; 13 grandchildren, James, Joshua, Glenda, Cindy, Brandi, Sarah, Emily, Scott, Ron Jr., Spencer, Junior, Brian and Elizabeth; nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Tommy King, Ronnie King, Sammy King, Pete Ware, Billy Ware and Terry Box.
Kuzel
CAMERON – Delphin Edward Kuzel, 80, of Cameron and formerly of Rogers, died Tuesday, Oct. 31 in a Temple hospital.
Graveside funeral services were held 10 a.m. Friday at Corinth Cemetery in Buckholts.
Mr. Kuzel, a retired cotton ginner, was born Jan. 16, 1926 in Buckholts to Willie Edward and Victoria Annie (Kovar) Kuzel.
His wife, Melba; two brothers, William and Norman; sister Toni Rindorf preceded him in death.
Survivors include sister, Stephanie Ludwig of Brenham; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Kuzel of Buckholts and Hazel Kuzel of Katy; numerous nieces and nephews.
Matlock
CAMERON – Funeral services for Mary Katherine Matlock, 71, of Cameron, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2006 in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron with Pastor Gene Van Noord and Roderick Davis Hetzel officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.
Mrs. Matlock died Oct. 30 in a Temple hospital.
She was born Aug. 18, 1935 in Melbourne, Arkansas to Richard and Belle (Ledford) McCormack. Mrs. Matlock was a member of Cameron Church of Christ and was the Media Center Director at C.H. Yoe High School for 15 years.
Survivors include her husband, Morris Matlock of Cameron; son, John Randall Matlock and wife Kristi of College Station; two daughters, Patricia Ann Foster and husband Jim of Cameron and Susan Gail Matlock-Hetzel and husband Roderick Davis Hetzel; brother, Verdell McCormack and wife Lola of Renton, Washington; sister, Nora Mae Stephens and husband Conrad of Ephrata, Washington; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Madron-Matlock, John Randall Matlock II, Vanessa Gail Foster and John Brooks Foster and wife Holli; three great-grandchildren, Cody Ryan Jost, Hannah Grace Foster and Courtni Camille Foster.
Stone
Larry J. Stone, 63, died Nov. 2, 2006 in Austin. Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 5 at Zion Church of Kurten with interment at Norwood Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 14, 1943 in Bremond. He attended Texas A&M University and was in the Corps of Cadets. He loved golfing, fishing and barbecuing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Stone.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stone of Bryan; son, Brent Stone of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Paul Luckey of Rockdale; step-sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Melanie Stone of Bryan, Roy McDougald of Glen Carbon, IL; step-daughters and son-in-law, Kim Carter of Bryan, Shirley and Steve Parker of Spring; mother, Patricia Stone of Hearne; sister, Nancy Wigley of Wixon Valley; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Phyliss Stone of Cameron; three grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Memorial may be made to American Heart Association or Zion Church of Kurten.
Plaag
Sarah Hammett Plaag, 70, of Rockdale, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at her residence.
Mrs. Plaag, a self-employed hairdresser, was born Aug. 28, 1936 in Navasota to William Calvert and Elizabeth Ann (Badger) Hammett. She married Wayne C. Plaag in 1973.
She was a resident of Rockdale for the past three years and formerly of Caldwell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Roy Fields’ two daughters, Debbie Fields and Elizabeth Fields.
Survivors include half brother, Michael Hammett of Friendswood; four grandchildren, Brandy Pierson of Rockdale, Elizabeth Kelly Waller of Rockdale, Malissa Pate of Lake Jackson and Christopher Pate of Austin; six great-grandchildren.
Rodden
Travis Marshall “Cowboy” Rodden, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006 at the Veterans Hospital in Temple. Graveside service was held Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Smyrna Cemetery near Milano with Rev. Dennis Maddox of Rockdale Pentecostal Church officiating.
Mr. Rodden was born Oct. 4, 1918 in Valera to Floyd Rodden and Maggie Mae Morrison. He married Wanda Mildred Thomason on May 17, 1947 in Voss.
He was a pipeliner from 1947 until his retirement in 1983. He was a resident of Milano for the past 26 years and formerly of Odessa, where he lived for 34 years.
Mr. Rodden was a United States Army Veteran of World War II serving in Alaska. He was a member of the 4th Army Division that served as Honor Guard for Franklin D. Roosevelt from the “Little White House” to the train station. He was also member of the Calgary Baptist Church in Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Floyd Marshall Rodden in 2002; two sisters, Lura Brynum and Betty Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Rodden of Milano; son, James Colt Rodden of Milano; two daughters, Wanda Valera Streicher of Midland and Troy Andra Rodden of Dallas; six grandchildren, Michael Streicher, Kathleen Lehman, J. Jason Streicher, Amy Jean Howeth, Joshua Martin and Jacob C. Rodden; four great-grandchildren, Erica Leigh Streicher, Christopher Howeth, Keegan Lehman and Anastasia Howeth.
