Matula
TAYLOR – Laddie Allan Matula, 53, of Liberty Hill, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor.
Mr. Matula was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Suzanne Trotter Matula, formerly of Rockdale; three children, Lanie Mace and husband Eddie, Laddie Matula and Lindsey Matula; also, two brothers and a sister.
Goza
Florence Studley Goza, our beautiful and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, died on Jan. 6, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Florence is the daughter of Joseph H. and Ida Wilder Studley.
Florence was born in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1941. Florence, a lifelong Presbyterian, baptized and married at the New Providence Presbyterian in Maryville, Tennessee and was currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Everett, WA.
Also, Florence was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority; a 1959 graduate of Maryville High School in Maryville, Tennessee and in 1963 from The University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Education. Florence pursued her profession of school teaching in Tennessee and Arkansas and continued as a substitute teacher as time would allow in many schools both at home and abroad.
And she was an avid bridge player, achieving the rank of Silver Life Master, and shared many good competitions with the stars of the bridge world. Her interests included her family; many sports: golfing, traveling, reading, and organizing households in the USA, Kingston, Jamaica; Pocos de Caldas, Brazil and Swansea, Wales.
Florence served briefly as a Board Member of The Interfaith Association of Snohomish County and was a loyal supporter of same. Florence had a zest for adventure and a curiosity that brought her many dear friends from the USA and the rest of the world. Florence had the ability to empathize and raise the spirits of all the many friends and family whom she befriended. Florence had an interesting and magnetic personality and her smile and enthusiasm will be missed by all who knew her.
Florence is survived by her husband, Michael E. Goza; son, Jonathan M. Goza and his wife Kimberly W. Goza and daughter, Elizabeth W. Goza. Also, Florence is survived by her brother, Robert J. and his wife, Judy Studley, cousins Barbara B. Burdette and Richard C. Studley and paternal Aunt Alma B. Studley. Two grandchildren, Katherine Anne and Claire Wilder Goza both of whom attend Saint Mary Magdalen School. There are others we hold in our hearts too numerous to recognize.
The family sends our deepest thanks to Providence Hospital at Colby Campus, The Everett Clinic Center for Cancer Care and Providence Hospice Care South.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Everett, Washington on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or a Charity of your choice.
Hall
Edith Emogene Quinn Hall, 92, of Missouri passed away on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006 at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, AR. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 at Landess Funeral Chapel in Campbell, MO with Rev. Randy Vaughn and Bro. Don Crawford. Interment followed in the Standfield Cemetery in Clarkton, MO.
Mrs. Hall was born on Aug. 22, 1914 in Martinville, AR to Joe Edwin Quinn and Mary Etta Luther. She married Jim Albert Hall on Sept. 22, 1928 in Center Ridge, Arkansas.
She was retired as a University of Missouri Extension Center Home Economist. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Holcumb, Missouri and a member of the Chalk Bluff Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Albert Hall on Sept. 21, 1978; son, J.A. Hall Jr; two great-grandsons, Adam Boyce Hays and William Alan Blakemore Hays; brothers and sisters, Flava Blanche Hall, Amy Grace Williamson, Hearl Lane Quinn, Ruby Lee Hurst, J.E. Quinn, Nadine Emily French and Harold Fisher Quinn.
Survivors include two daughters, Frieda Hall Blakemore and husband Joe of Holcomb, MO and Joann Hall Carter of Kennett, MO; eight grandchildren, J.A. Kiesling
Eldred Kiesling, 86, of Arlington, formerly of Thorndale, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 in a Fort Worth hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Miller officiating. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mr. Kiesling, a cabinet maker and a machinist most of his life, was born June 11, 1920 in Thorndale to Edwin E. and Frances (Runge) Kiesling. He married Levohn Stork on Nov. 6, 1947 in Rockdale at the home of Pastor Sager.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged as a sergeant in 1945 and is a life member of the VFW. He was a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church in Arlington and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gilbert Kiesling; infant sister.
Survivors include his wife Levohn Kiesling of Arlington; two sons, David Kiesling and wife Debbie of Arlington and Ken Kiesling and wife Rhonda of Arlington; daughter, Tommy Jane Berry and husband Clyde of Burleson; two brothers, Edwin Kirk Kiesling and wife Edna of Austin and Delma (Sloppy) Kiesling and wife Doris of Thorndale; brother-in-law, Tenner Stork and wife Pat of Austin; sister-in-law, Wallie Kiesling of Taylor; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Keith Kiesling, Kevin Kiesling, Preston Kiesling, Allen Kiesling, Michael Kiesling and Aaron D. Stork.
Owings
CAMERON – Jessie Elveta Owings, 81 of Cameron died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at her home. Graveside funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8 at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron with Rev. Glynn Cummings officiating.
Mrs. Owings, a bookkeeper for over 30 years, was born Aug. 7, 1925 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Alphonza Lanier and Ada Irene (Williams) Harper. She married Douglas Maurice “Bobby” Owings on July 30, 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1997. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a Cameron Yoe High gradaute. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Owings of Cameron and Mike Owings of Cameron; sister, Emarene Hudspeth of Abilene; two sisters-in-law, Mary Harper of Morgans Point and Della Harper; two brothers-in-law, James Terry of Cameron and J.T. Owings of Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews.
Clark
McGinnis (Mac) Clark died Jan. 5, 2007 at the age of 85 after a long battle with cancer. Memorial services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 at Baptist Temple in Houston with Pastor Kelly Burkhart and Dr. Roy E. Ladd officiating.
He was born in Rockdale to the late James and Jewell (Carver) Clark.
He attended Rockdale High School and received a bachelor’s degree from the Rice Institute (now Rice University). He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot in the Pacific Theater during the World War II.
McGinnis owned and was president of Hardwood Lumber Co. from which he retired in 1986. He was a coach in Timbergrove Little League and a longtime member of Baptist Temple where he taught Sunday school.
Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his three brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bettie; daughter Bettie (Mia) Nyschens and husband Craig; three sons, Wayne Clark, Robert Clark and Paul Clark and wife Judy; four grandchildren, James Simmons, Alan Simmons, Nikolai Nyschens and Micah Nyschens; two sisters, Edna Timmerman and husband Albert and Ethel Guthrie and husband Allan; two sisters-in-law, Margie Clark, June Clark; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Smith
CAMERON – Stella Inez Whitley Smith, 83, of Elgin and formerly of Cameron died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at her home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 at the First Baptist Church in Cameron with Rev. Gary Maroney officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.
Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 30, 1923 in Cameron to David Nelson and Iris Inez (Price) Whitley. She graduated from C.H. Yoe High School. She was a W.A.C. veteran of World War II and a member of the First Baptist Church in Cameron. She worked for Markum Cleaners, the Varsity Motel, the Milam Motel and the Travis State School.
He son, Thomas Thorpe preceded her in death.
Survivors include son, Rodney Thorpe of Cameron; three daughters, Maggie Voges of Elgin, Inez Sanborn of LaGrange, Maine and Luciann Smith of Huntsville; brother, W.D. Whitley; step-daughter, Judy Lucko; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
