Maroney
CAMERON – Lida L. Maroney, 88 of Camern and formerly of Kirbyville, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 in a Cameron nursing center. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Cameron with Rev. Gary Maroney officiating. Graveside services were held 4:30 p.m. at the Kirbyville Cemetery in Kirbyville.
Mrs. Maroney, a homemaker, was born Dec. 10, 1918 in Bone Gap, Illinois to John and Matilda (Baker) Lomas. She married W.C. “Dub” Maroney on Nov. 30, 1940 in Evansville, Indiana and he preceded her in death in 1992.
She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and had served the church in many capacities including the W.M.U. and teaching Sunday school. A brother, John Lomas also preceded her in death.
Survivors include son, Rev. Gary Maroney and wife Darlene of Cameron; four brothers, Lawrence Lomas and wife Trella of Parkersburg, IN, Robert Lomas wife Mae of Olney, IL, Bill Lomas and wife Diane of West Salem, IL, and Bernie Lomas and wife Joann of Olney, IL; sister, Betty Miller of West Salem, IL; sister-in-law, Helen Lomas of Parkersburg, IL; six grandchildren, Daniel Maroney and wife Karina, Michael Maroney and wife Carmen, Gabriel Maroney and wife Jené, Samuel Maroney and wife Karol, Sarah Haussecker and husband Eric and Joel Maroney and wife Amanda; seven great-grandchildren, Miles Kersten, Daschel Maroney, Kirsten Haussecker, Noah Haussecker, Kenyah Maroney, Indiah Maroney, Giani Maroney.

Nunn
CAMERON – Leroy Nunn, 76, of Cameron, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2006 in a Cameron hospital. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Glynn Cummings officiating. Burial followed in the Marlow Cemetery.
Mr. Nunn, a retired potroom supervisor for Alcoa, was born July 21, 1930 in Liberty Hill to Robert Lee and Bessie (Ficher) Nunn. He married Mary Sue Shumate Thompson on Dec. 16, 1983.
A son, Brian Mitchell Nunn; two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Nunn of Cameron; two sons, Larry Leroy Nunn of Weimar and Rogers Brent Nunn of Cameron; two daughters, Linda Darlene Reichert of Salado and Sandra Terry of Cameron; two step-sons, James Thompson of Cameron and Steven Thompson of Rockdale; two step-daughters, Cynthia Labay of Cameron and Susan Thompson of Cameron; brother, Robert Lee Nunn of Georgetown; sister, Mildred Powers of Georgetown; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Menges
Dorthy “Dot” Menges, 65, of Tanglewood for the past 19 years, formerly of Rockdale, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007 in Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. David Garison of Northside Christian Church and Rev. Jeffrey Eernisse 2nd Christian Church and Rev. Tim Ramsey of Tanglewood Baptist Church officiating.
Mrs. Menges was born Jan. 22, 1941 in Buckholts to Curtis and Minnie (Tucker) Cardwell. She married Johnny Menges on Sept. 14, 1957 at the old First Christian Church in Rockdale.
She was co-manager of Tanglewood Christian Camp and she was also a nurse for many years.
Mrs. Menges was a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church and Eastern Star. She helped organize the Tanglewood Baptist Church Women Salad Supper and helped at the Tanglewood Baptist Church Food Pantry. Mrs. Menges enjoyed cooking, and all of the kids that attended camp were her kids.
She was preceded in death by grandson, Cory Menges; great-granddaughter Camry Abegglen; parents, Curtis and Minnie Cardwell and step-father, Tom Beck.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny K. Menges Sr. of Tanglewood; son, Johnny K. Menges Jr. of Illinois; daughter, Vanissa McCoy and husband James of Thorndale; step-brothers, Dave Beck of Moffat; sister, Martha Morr and husband Craig of Rockdale; four grandchildren, Casey Abegglen and husband Matt of Bryan, Stormie Menges, Wyatt Menges and Morgan Menges of Illinois; two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Avery Abegglen; also survived by a number of aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers included James Maines, James Wright, James Powell, Brad Pembleton, Ron Runyon and Albert Weller.

Smith
Services for William (Bill) H. Smith, 95, of Pleasanton, California, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. Reuel Cooper officiating. Burial was at Hugh Wilson Cemetery at Tanglewood.
Mr. Smith died Sunday, Jan. 7, in California.
He was born Oct. 18, 1911, in Mason County to N.E. and Eva (Kelley) Smith.
Mr. Smith was raised in the Hicks community, lived in Houston for 34 years, retired and returned to Tanglewood for 30 years. For the past year he lived in Pleasanton, California.
He married Olivian Wright on March 10, 1934, in Forest Grove.
Mr. Smith worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 34 years.
He attended Tanglewood Baptist Church, then Lexington Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. He served as deacon at both churches.
Mr. Smith enjoyed raising cattle and fixing things.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Olivian Smith of Pleasanton, California; a son, Don Smith and wife Barbara of Pleasanton, CA; also, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jamie Wright, Ricky Caffey, Don Smith, Kyle Caffey, K.C. Smith and Chuck Thompson.

Spates
A memorial service for Gail Spates, 65, of Leander was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, in Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Springer officiating.
Ms. Spates died Monday, Jan. 8, at her granddaughter’s home in San Antonio.
She was born Oct. 26, 1941, in Pasadena to Hubert Lee and Myrtie (Bownds) Jackson.
Ms. Spates was a word processor for a law firm.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Darrell Jackson and Lynn Jackson.
Survivors are a son, Darren Spates and wife Jamie of Splendora; two daughters, Dianne R. Harris of Leander, Myleesa France and husband Sgt. Michael France of El Paso; a brother, Dewayne Jackson of Lexington; two sisters, Kathryn Ann Grisham of Thorndale, Renee Mitchell of Austin; and eight grandchildren, Jessica Harris of San Antonio, Jamie Harris of Chicago, Illinois, Catelyn Spates, Charity Spates and Darren R. Spates of Splendora, Chase Perkins, Connor France and Rorey France of El Paso.
Dehart
CAMERON – Funeral services for Mrs. Emelia Flores Salazar Dehart, 36, of Rockdale, were held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel at Green-Patterson-Funeral Home with Pastor Martin Mendoza officiating.
Mrs. Dehart died on Jan. 6 in a Rockdale hospital.
She was born Nov. 19, 1970 in Taylor to Dorotel Salazar and Audelia Flores.
Mrs. Dehart was a member of Full Gospel Holiness Church in Rockdale.
Survivors include her husband, David Lee Dehart Jr. of Rockdale; four sons, Alex Rodriguez, Juan Salazar, Jacob Xavier Aguirre and Richard Aguirre III, all of Rockdale; daughter, Alexis Aguirre of Rockdale; mother, Audelia Balderas of Cameron; father, Dorotel Salazar Sr. of Taylor; three brothers, Dorotel Salazar Jr. of Taylor, Timothy Eric Salazar of Rockdale and Jose Miguel Salazar of Taylor.
Johnson
CAMERON – R.N. Johnson, 86, of Temple and formerly of Cameron died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at his home.
Mr. Johnson, an appliance repair and salesman, was born Oct. 12, 1920 in Burk Burnet to Asa and El Mina (Little) Johnson. He was an United States Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include son, Ralph Johnson of Rockdale; five daughters, Letitia Bussard of Temple, Pat Hernandez of Temple, Mina Miller of Caldwell, Gwin Squires of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Naamah Gonzalez of Ben Arnold; 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
