Kahler
CAMERON – Graveside services for James Harlan Kahler, 75, of Temple, formerly of Cameron, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2007, at Oak Hill Cemetery with Chaplain Rodney Kruse officiating.
Mr. Kahler died Tuesday, Feb. 27, in a Temple nursing center.
A retired wholesale florist, he was born Sept. 26, 1931, in Cameron to Ernest L. and Sidonia (Schiller) Kahler.
Mr. Kahler attended the University of Texas and North Texas State University.
He served on the Cameron City Council for six years, was a member and past president of Cameron Country Club, a member and past president of Cameron Rotary Club, a member and past president of the Men’s Golf Association and a member of First United Methodist Church where he taught an adult Sunday school class.
Mr. Kahler was preceded in death by his son, James Kahler Jr., and a granddaughter, Erin Kahler.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Kahler Vose of Washington, D.C., Ann Kahler Elliott of Austin; a brother, Charles Kahler of Morganton, North Carolina; two grandsons, Zachary Kahler of Temple, Trey Kahler of Beaumont.
Memorials may be made to the Scott & White Hospice.
Shaw
CAMERON – Mary Lillian Shaw, 87, of Cameron, died Monday, March 5, 2007 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 8 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery near Hanover.
Mrs. Shaw, a homemaker, was born Dec. 27, 1919 in Milam County to Jim and Lillian York. She married Ossie Shaw. Her son, Ricky Dale Shaw preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Ossie Shaw of Cameron; two daughters, Donna Kenney of Cameron and Marilyn Seelke of Temple; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Tyler
Barbara Ann Tyler, 69, died Monday, March 19, 2007 at her residence in Patagonia, Arizona after a long lengthy illness. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Rockdale.
Ms. Tyler was born Jan. 6, 1938 in Cameron to Henry and Judy (Armstrong) Tyler.
She was a resident of Patagonia, Arizona for the past seven years, and also a resident of Canada for over 35 years, formerly of Kleinberg, Ontario.
She was executive Director and CEO of McMichael Canadian Art Collection Gallery in Kleinbert, Ontario from 1986 until her retirement in 2000.
Ms. Tyler received her masters degree in American History from Texas Christian University.
She first worked at the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art in Ft. Worth. She moved to Canada in 1969 and worked for Parks Canada in the Historic Sites Planning Department. She was also director of communications and then director of public programs at the National Museum of Man in Ottawa. In 1979 she was first director of policy, planning and evaluation for the National Museums Corp.
Ms. Tyler was assistant director of programs for the Glenbow-Alberta Institute in Calgary and then went to McMichaels Gallery.
In 1995 she was named a fellow of the Canadian Museums Association, a lifetime honour held by only 25 people at any given time.
She was preceded in death by her father on Aug. 14, 2003; mother, Feb. 3, 2006.
Survivors include her brother, Ricky Tyler and wife Jody of Longview; two sisters, Lynne Laurence and husband Donnie of Kerrville and Patsy Chmelar and husband Glen of College Station; seven nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers include Rick Tyler, Jason Tyler, Clay Tyler, Donnie Laurence Jr., Chad Chmelar and Tim Rau.

Gray
Lifelong Rockdale resident, Darrie Ray Gray, 77, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 at the Richard’s Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Monday, March 26 at the Sandy Creek Cemetery near Rockdale with Rev. Dave Gunnella of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Rockdale officiating.
Mr. Gray was born Sept. 6, 1929 at the family home in the Sandy Creek Community to Darwin Stanley Gray and Luttie (Bounds) Gray. He married Patricia Barker.
Mr. Gray was a fence builder for H.H. Coffield and a rancher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Archie Gray; sister, Dorothy Callaway.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Gray of Rockdale; two sons, Edgar Gray and Billy Gray, both of Rockdale; half brother, Marvin Gray of Rockdale.
Ray
Frank Douglas (Doug) Ray, 46 of Lexington, died March 16, 2007 at Brackenridge Hospital. Mr. Ray was born Aug. 10, 1960 in Rockdale to James and Ellen Ray.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4 at First Christian Church in Lexington. Interment will follow at Memorial Garden Park in Pflugerville.
Mr. Ray’s spirit will live on through his organ donations.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Ray; brother, James Ward.
He is survived by two sons, Colton Ray and Brandon Marshall of Lexington; mother, Ellen Ray of Lexington; two brothers, Alan Ray and wife Vicki of Lovelady and Jesse Ray and wife Tammy of Lexington; sister, Marsha Griffith and husband Greg of Arkansas; numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials constributions may be made payable to Ellen Ray. Proceeds will be placed in trust for the education of his children.
Titsworth
CAMERON – Jimmy Eugene Titsworth, 51, of Temple, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Titsworth, a school teacher, was born March 14, 1955 in Cameron to Cornelius “Bo” and Slyvia (Love) Titsworth. He married Susan Griffin on June 7, 1981. He taught school in Corpus Christi until he and his wife recently moved to Temple.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Titsworth of Temple; mother, Sylvia Titsworth of Cameron; brother, Timothy Titsworth of Cameron; sister, Tina Strmiska of Cameron; numerous nieces and nephews.
Matula
CAMERON – Funeral services for John Andrew Matula, age 45, of Anderson and formerly of Cameron, were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2007 in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. John Self and Father Walter Matus officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron. Mr. Matula died Saturday night at his mother’s residence in Anderson.
Mr. Matula was born July 11, 1961 in Cameron to Albert Frank and Patsy Esslinger Matula Sr. Mr. Matula was a farmer and rancher and had formerly worked at Chupiks of Temple for several years. Mr. Matula graduated from C.H. Yoe High School in 1979, and was a member of the Catholic Church.
Mr. Matula was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Albert and Corinne Matula; maternal grandparents, Andrew and Eleanor Esslinger; step-father, Glyn Perry; three aunts, Blanche Fuqua, Aubrey and Tommy Hensley.
Survivors include his son, Andrew Johnathon Matula of Anderson; mother, Patsy Esslinger Perry of Anderson; father, Frank Matula of Cameron; step-mother, Peggy Matula of Cameron; two brothers, Al Matula and Joe Matula, both of Cameron; four sisters, Cynthia Matula of Austin, Carolyn Bowen of Crownsville, Maryland, Kathy Kirk of Cameron and Patricia Hays of Cameron.
