Thurman
Kent Thurman, 79, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in the Renaissance Villa in Rockdale. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Burt Graham officiating. Burial followed in the Milano Cemetery.
Mr. Thurman was born April 6, 1928 in North Hollywood, California to Zoe Kent Thurman Sr. and Alice Mae Goodwin. He married Queena Rae Haddox on May 21, 1947.
He was a trustee for the Milano ISD for 13 years and a member of the Milano Volunteer Fire Department. He followed his father-in-law, Homer O. “Runt” Haddox position as Fire Chief and then later served as First Assistant Fire Chief for Milano.
Mr. Thurman worked at Alcoa for 14 years in the potrooms and setting carbon and selling used cars. In 1970 he bought the Mobile Station and Wrecker Service, retiring in 2004.
He was a resident of Milano for the past 70 years.
Mr. Thurman was preceded in death by a son, Sammy Douglas Thurman on Feb. 3, 1992; parents; brother, Jack Thurman.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Queena Rae Thurman of Milano; two sons, Buddy Thurman and wife Dell of Milano and Homer Thurman of Dallas; five daughters, Cynthia Wood and husband Don of Whitesboro, Debra Thurman of Dallas, Teresa Kutch and husband Sonny of Caldwell, Sandra Thurman of Milano and Olivia Henderson and husband Steve of Lexington; three sisters, Midge Cornwell of Phoenix, Arizona, Barb Dickerson of The Woodlands and Peggy Dickerson of Clarkville, Arkansas; 11 grandchildren, Kasaundra Lee Thurman, Monica Rene Thurman, Andrew Kent Thurman, Matthew Scott Thurman, Daniel Scott Wood, Diana Shea Wood, Lana Lea Wood, Teresa Renea Kutch, Michael Kent Cernuch, Zachary Kent Doonan and Dana Rae Doonan; seven great-grandchildren, Christian Lee Thurman, Dylan Wyatt Andrejczak, Kaitlyn Victoria Gayle Cernuch and Michael Kaden Cernuch.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers include Don Wardlow and the officers and firefighters of Milano Volunteer Fire Department.
Hubnik
Mallie Jane Marak Hubnik, 94 of Brownwood and formerly of Odessa, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007 in a Brownwood hospital. Funeral services were held 9 a.m. Saturday, July 14 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Marak with Rev. Walter Matus officiating. Burial followed in the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery.
Mrs. Hubnik, a homemaker, was born July 5, 1913 in Bomarton to John A. and Adele (Geryk) Marak. She married Paul Hubnik, Jr. on November 21, 1938 and he preceded her in death in October of 1986. She and her husband moved to Odessa in 1950 and served faithfully as a volunteer in St. Mary’s and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She was a 50 year member of K.J.Z.T. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Ernest and Michael; two grandchildren, Gaines William and Dominique Hubnik; three sisters and a brother.
Survivors include three daughters, Paulette Foster and husband James of Cross Plains, Eleanor Mitcham and husband Dickie of Odessa, and Joanie Ward and husband, James, of Ft. Stockton; daughter-in-law, Sallye Hubnik of Odessa; brother, Henry Marak and wife Helen of Shreveport, La.; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Hairston
CAMERON – Funeral services for Mr. Jessie William Hairston, 80, of Huntsville, were held Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Shuffield officiating. Burial followed in the Milano Cemetery. Mr. Hairston died Saturday, July 14 in a Temple hospital.
Mr. Hairston was born Jan. 9, 1927 in Rockdale to Allan and Nora (Price) Jackson.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry Hairston of Red Oak, Steven Hairston, Jessie Hairston Jr. and Orbie Hairston, all of Teague; three daughters, Carol Arnold of Red Oak, Beverly Chappell of Palmer and Veronica Hairston of Teague; two brothers, Loye Lee Hairston of Whitney and Orbie Hairston of Belton; sister, Mae Johnson of Minerva; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Wise
CAMERON – William J. “Buster” Wise Jr., 84, of Cameron died Tuesday, July 10, 2007 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Saturday, July 14 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Lafferty officiating. Burial followed in the Rice Cemetery.
Mr. Wise was born May 8, 1923 in the Hanover community of Milam County to William and Bernice (Dodson) Wise. He married Ruby Elizabeth Wise and she preceded him in death in 1995. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the 3rd Street Church of Christ. A sister, Helen McLane, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include four sons, Charlie Wise of Cameron, Russell Wise of Rosebud, Harvey Wise and Clell Wise, both of Bryan; three daughters, Sharon Harber of Bryan, Margie Horton of Humble and Theresa Klecka of Buckholts; three sisters, Edna Lee Riley of Kansas City, MO, Esher Addington of Cedar Springs and Lora Lee Mortimer of Waco; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Tomasek
CAMERON – Adolph Tomasek, 92, of Buckholts, died Thursday, July 12, 2007 in a Cameron hospital. Graveside funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday, July 16 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron with Rev. Chris Coleman officiating.
Mr. Tomasek, a retired blacksmith with Sebesta Blacksmith Shop, was born May 23, 1915 in Milam County to John and Mary (Kopecka) Tomasek. He was a member of the St. Monica’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his sister Milady Summer of Temple.
Jenkins
CAMERON – Rosalie Jenkins, 89, of San Antonio and formerly of Cameron, died Monday, July 9 at her home. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Chris Coleman and Msgr. Ed Matocha officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Jenkins, a retired nurse, was born Dec . 3, 1917 in Cameron to B.P. and Angeline (Krenek) Matocha. She married Leo Jenkins and he preceded her in death. Her daughter, Donna Jenkins and brother, Boles Matocha Jr. also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two brothers, Paul Matocha and wife Mildren of Cameron and Francis Matocha and wife Marie of San Antonio.
Banda
CAMERON – Funeral services for Mrs. Palmira Cisneros Banda, 90, of Lorena, were held Wednesday, July 18 at 11 a.m. in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Johnny Skrhak officiating. Burial followed in the Hernandez Cemetery in Cameron. Mrs. Banda died July 15 at her home.
She was born Sept. 16, 1916 in Corpus Christi to Julian and Ricarda (Garcia) Cisneros.
Survivors include six sons, Arturo Banda and Cecilio Banda, both of Bryan, Ramiro Banda, Refugio Banda and Santiago Banda, all of Waco and Juan Banda of Gatesville; three daughters, Consuelo Martinez of Lorena, Esperanza Skrhak of Brownwood and Maria Tryon of Lorena; sister, Manuela Cabrera of Corpus Christi; 19 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
