Moses
THORNDALE Funeral services for James A. "Doc" Moses, 79, of Thorndale were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Buddy Morton of Gause Baptist Chapel officiating. Burial was in Salty Cemetery.
Mr. Moses died Sunday, July 29, in a Rockdale nursing home.
A Thorndale resident for 31 years, he was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Williamson County to Calvin Rier Moses and Mary Ann Pratt. Mr. Moses worked at Alcoa for 33-1/2 years before retiring. He also raised cattle and hogs, loved hunting and fishing, and enjoyed country music. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Leander, Clyde and Russel Moses; and three sisters, Olie Moses, Katy Griffith and Lela Menn.
Survivors are his wife, Carmon O. Moses of Thorndale; a son, Allen Moses of Thorndale; a brother, Henry Moses and wife Linnie of McDade; and two sisters, Edna Clopton of Houston and Nora Dell Robertson of Lexington.
Pallbearers were John Griffith, Ervin Griffith, Alfred Griffith, Jackie Moses, Randy Moses and Ricky Moses.
Holliman
Funeral services for Carmen Lucille Holliman, 82, of the Black Jack community, formerly of Tanglewood and Forest Grove, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2001, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Chuck Salmon of Forest Grove Christian Church and Pastor Buddy Morton officiating. Burial was in Eagle Cemetery near Rockdale.
Mrs. Holliman died Thursday, July 26, in Rockdale.
A resident of Black Jack since 1963, she was born May 11, 1919, in Milam County to John W. and Annie Mae (OBier) Tyler. She married Olen P. Holliman on Aug. 23, 1937, in Rockdale. She attended the Eagle School and Rockdale High School. Mrs. Holliman was a homemaker and rancher and she enjoyed quilting, going to church and baking pies. She was a member of Forest Grove Christian Church and the Quilting Bee at Black Jack Church.
Preceding her in death was her husband on April 24, 1992; her parents; a daughter, Alma Joy Holliman; and a granddaughter, Kathy Llast.
Survivors are a son, Olen Holliman Jr. of Wooster, Ohio; two daughters, Mary I. Ridgeway of Austin and Faye Schoneman and husband Clyde of Snook; two brothers, Dan Tyler of Houston and Johnny M. Tyler of Lexington; two sisters, Susan M. Garner and Tommie Nell Roach, both of Porter; also, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were William Tyler, Morris Kyle, Wayne Kyle, Jon Llast, Paul Ridgeway and Bill Duncum.
Honorary pallbearers were Claude Spence, Pete Keen, Lee Keen and Wayne Morton.
Shed
Funeral services for M.R. Shed, 73, of Tanglewood were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2001, at the Tobey Cemetery at Oakalla.
Mr. Shed died Tuesday, July 24, in a Rockdale nursing home.
He was born May 1, 1928, at Lampasas to Eddy Ray Shed and Ruby Dale (Labit) Shed. He married Joyce Ann Ranking on May 5, 1951, in Jarrell. A resident of Tanglewood for the past 26 years, Mr. Shed previously resided in Sugar Land. He was a self-employed house contractor and, after moving to Tanglewood, he specialized as a roofing contractor. Mr. Shed was a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were a son, Jimmy Shed; two brothers, Alvie Dewel Shed and Billy Edward Shed; and his parents.
Survivors are his wife, Joyce Shed of Tanglewood; three sons, Douglas "Butch" Shed and wife Nita of New Braunfels, David Lynn Shed and wife Teresa of Smithville and Darrell Mabry Shed of Austin; a daughter, Karen Baron and husband Joe of Canyon Lake; a brother, Charles Shed of Fairfield; a sister, Margie Dreamer of Arcola; also, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Maguire
No services are planned for Raymond Maguire, 67, of Rockdale who died Wednesday morning, July 25, 2001, in Rockdale.
A resident of Rockdale for the past two months, he previously lived in Round Rock for 13 years after retiring from the U.S. Army.
He was born May 30, 1934, in Big Rapids, Michigan, to Clyde R. and Nellie B. (Lake) Maguire. Mr. Maguire served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring in June 1973. He received the Bronze Star to the Vietnam Service Medal. He worked for the State of Texas as an electrician and retired from there. Mr. Maguire was a member of the Round Rock Bowling League.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors are two sons, Steven Wayne Martin of San Diego and Donald Raymond Martin of Tanglewood; three daughters, Rosline Dennis Ferguson of Eugene, Oregon, Stephanie Maguire of Texas City and Jill Nelson of Dickinson; and his best friend, Cindy Smith of Austin; also, 11 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Angell
CAMERON Funeral services for Marietta Boyd Angell, 92, of Cameron, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2001, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Jim Lafferty and Rev. Glynn Cummings officiating. Burial followed in the Walkers Creek Cemetery. She died Friday, July 27, 2001, in a Rockdale hospital.
Mrs. Angell, a retired teacher from the Gause and Splawn communities, was born Nov. 11, 1908, in Milam County to L.C. and Mary Vaughn Boyd. She attended Mary Hardin Baylor after graduation from high school.
Mrs. Angell and her husband, O.C. Angell, were cofounders of Milam Grain Company in Cameron. She was a member of the Little River Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966 and a daughter, Etta Mae.
Survivors are two sons, Gene Angell and wife Mary and Ferroll Angell and wife Betty, all of Cameron; a daughter, Faye Gwartney and husband Roger of Mesquite; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Dibble
GAUSE Funeral services for Samuel E. Dibble Sr., 76, of Gause, were held Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the Gause United Methodist Church in Gause with Rev. Billy Sparks, assisted by Rev. Kenneth Byrd, officiating. Burial followed in the Gause Cemetery. He died at his residence Friday, July 27, 2001.
Mr. Dibble, retired, was born in Houston Sept. 26, 1924. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the DAV Bryan Chapter. He was also a member of the Gause United Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Margie Dibble of Gause; three sons, Sam Dibble Jr. of Groesbeck, Michael Dibble and wife Marie of Grand Prairie and Mark Dibble and wife Sandy of Cleveland; daughter, Kay Dibble of Gause; brother, Preston Dibble of Splendora; sister, Barbara Treadwell of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Malone
CAMERON Coy T. Malone Sr., 80, of Fort Worth, formerly of Cameron, died Monday, July 23, 2001, in a Dallas hospital.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jim Lafferty officiating.
He was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Cameron to Thomas and Velma Malone. Mr. Malone was retired out of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Malone; and a sister, Pauline Wallis.
Survivors include a son, Coy Thomas Malone Jr. of Houston; two daughters, Jeanette Gamble of Fort Worth and Velma Ruth Collard of Corpus Christi; a brother, George Malone of Granbury; two sisters, Myrile Godwin of Arlington and Addie Cryer of Cameron; also, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Brantley
CAMERON Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Gould Brantley, 87, of Cameron were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001, in Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. William Angel officiating.
Mrs. Brantley died Tuesday in an Austin hospital.
She was born Jan. 4, 1914, in Cameron and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Brantley.
Surviving her is a sister, Dorothy Clore of Cameron.
