Graveside service for Frances Ann Woods, 46, of Chico will be Friday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at Caddo Peak Cemetery in Joshua. Bill Higgins will officiate. Family visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Coker Funeral Home.
Woods died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in Decatur.
Born Aug. 21, 1956, in Watertown, N.Y., she was a homemaker. She married Mark Woods Oct. 17, 1975, in Fort Worth.
She is survived by her husband; her father, Loren Gault Sr. of New York; her mother, Katherine Chitwood of Joshua; a son, James Edward Woods of Chico; a daughter, Katherine L. Martin and husband Bryan of Alvord; a brother, Jimmy Gault and wife Norma of Hillsboro; four sisters, Rosie Jaquess and husband Bob, Beverly Shirley and husband Larry, Mary Lou Chitwood and husband Randy, all of Joshua and Gloria Westbrook and husband Jesse of Alvord; and three grandchildren, Christian Blake Martin, Dakota Woods and Makayla Paige Martin.
Alan T. Fortenberry

Graveside service for Alan T. Fortenberry, 44, of Boyd was to be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Boyd Cemetery. Ed Rhoads officiated.
Fortenberry died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Decatur.
Born Aug. 17, 1958, in Fort Worth, he is a retired longhorn cattle raiser and farmer. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willis “Bill” Fortenberry on April 5, 1994.
He is survived by his mother, Jan Fortenberry of Boyd; one brother, Tony Fortenberry and wife Rita of Fort Worth; three sisters, Jan Ervin and husband Ed of Fort Worth, Kay Rhoads and husband Ed of Cottondale and Patti Fortenberry of Boyd.
Pallbearers were to be Danny Willbanks, Byron Gibson, Robert Saville, Albert Iglesias, J.C. Sydow, Brent Wilson and Billy Pate.
Honorary pallbearers were to be Pat Goodger, Jack Shepard, Wayne Jennings, Waymon Pannell, Don Jackson, Don Betts, Dale Peebles and Husky Morrow.
Dr. Dan Whitehead
1914-2002
Service for Dr. Dan Whitehead, 87, of Bridgeport was to be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Hawkins Funeral Chapel. Burial was to follow at Chico Cemetery. The Rev. Bo Blakey was to officiate.
Whitehead died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Decatur.
Born Dec. 15, 1914, in Blanket he was a retired physician, surgeon and rancher who had lived in Bridgeport since 1952. He married Sherry Elizabeth Brown on Sept. 6, 1944, in San Antonio. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bridgeport and the American Osteopathic Association.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sherry Whitehead of Bridgeport; one son, Doug Whitehead of Chico; two daughters, Dana Ruth Rigg of Philadelphia, Pa. and Sherry Lynn Dale of Chico; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one sister, Peggy Callahan of Flower Mound.
Pallbearers were to be Steve Stanford, Scott Stanford, Jeremy Polk, Jay Evans and Steve Sparks.
Manuel ‘Mac’ McCarroll
1910-2002
Funeral for longtime Wise County educator Manuel “Mac” McCarroll, 92, of Decatur, was to be Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Dr. Rusty Hedges was to officiate, assisted by the Revs. Tommy Brumett and Ken May. Burial was to follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
McCarroll died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at his home.
Born Oct. 23, 1910, in Slidell to Joseph Green and Vira Potter McCarroll, he married the former Chloe McDonald on Aug. 30, 1939, in Iowa Park. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of North Texas. His career in coaching and administration began in 1936. When he retired as a boys basketball coach in 1975, he had won 82 percent of his 915 games, losing only 168. He lead his Slidell Greyhounds to one state championship and during his career in Slidell and Decatur, he won 19 district titles, took 10 teams to the regional tournament and had four appearances in the state basketball tournament.
A Senate resolution in 1981 during the 67th Legislature paid tribute to his coaching career. In 1995, the Slidell gymnasium was named in his honor.
During World War II, McCarroll served in the Army-Air Force Training Command as Director of Instructor Training. He was stationed for four years at Seymour Johnson Field in Goldsboro, N.C. and Keesler Field in Biloxi, Miss. An ear injury prevented him from entering the regular Armed Forces so he served his country in Civil Service.
He is survived by his wife, Chloe; two daughters, Dana Kay McCarroll of Decatur and Patty McCarroll Horan and husband Ralph of Dallas; two grandchildren, Joseph McCarroll Rayburn and wife Rachel and Katie Rayburn Wolfe and husband Jeff, all of Dallas; one great-grandchild, Logan Cole Rayburn of Dallas; one sister, Mildred McCarroll Read of Decatur; and one brother, Taylor McCarroll of Slidell.
Pallbearers were to be Bobby Wilson, Roland Wilson, Bud Enis, J.E. Carson, Allen Ray Young and Frank Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers were to be Tom Maxwell, Walter Ashley, Arthur B. Truitt, Jack Leake, Hardie Fortenberry, Sam Renshaw and Guss Weber. Wilson was to speak on behalf of the family during the service.
Woodrow ‘Woody’ Starnes
1919-2002
Service for Woodrow “Woody” Starnes, 83, of Decatur will be Sunday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. at Coker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2 at DFW National Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30.
Starnes died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Decatur.
Born Feb. 6, 1919, in Decatur, to Edgar and Millie Belle Starnes, he served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the 131st Lost Battalion. He was a retired used car sales manager at James Wood Motors and served three terms as Wise County clerk. He married Butch Dickerson June 17, 1966. He was a member of Fundamental Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife; five children, Air Force Master Sergeant Michael Starnes of Minot, N.D., Beverly Ann Chamberlain-Sanford of Florida, Terry Parramore of Abilene, Jan Boyd and Susie Dickenson, both of Fort Worth; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be James Woody, James Ray Garrett, Tommy Williams, Rex Dickenson, Jed Boyd and Joe Boyd.
Dee Mueller
1935-2002
Service for Dee Mueller, 67, of Aurora were to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Boyd. Burial was to follow in Aurora.
Mueller died Nov. 28, 2002, in Decatur.
Born Sept. 20, 1935, in Angelus, Kan., she was a founding partner of MD Resort in Aurora. She married David Mueller Sept. 26, 1963 in San Angelo.
She was preceded in death by her son, Chuck Nevin, two sisters, Mildred Reipl and Pat Comstock and a brother, Don Kirkland.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, David Mueller of Aurora; one son, Carl Nevin Jr. and wife Barbara of Fort Smith, Ark.; four daughters, Christine Lohrke and husband Gary of Fort Worth, Carol Lynn Nevin Tyson and husband Warren of Irving, Donna Davis and husband Mickey of Aurora and Debbie Carber and husband Chris of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Louise Shanks of Arvada, Colo. and two brothers, Wilbert Kirkland of Safety Harbor, Fla. and Melvin Kirkland of Kanab, Uttah.

Donna Kaye Smith

A private family service for Donna Kaye Smith, 59, of Bowie will be held at a later date.
Smith died Nov. 27, 2002, in Wichita Falls.
Born Jan. 31, 1943, in Arlington, she owned and operated a health food store.
She is survived by two daughters, Kelly Smith of Lubbock and Shelly Tenorio of Arlington; one brother, James Wayne Cobb and wife Brenda of Burleson and one granddaughter, Jordan Charlene Tenorio.

Donald Leo York

York died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Decatur.
Born Feb. 8, 1944, in Olney, he was the owner and operator of York Trucking. He married Carol Bromling Aug. 20, 1963, in New Castle and had lived in the Bridgeport community since 1967.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol York of Bridgeport; one son, Steve York and wife Missy of Bridgeport; two daughters, Lisa Kaker and husband John of Bridgeport and Kim Spurgeon and husband Charley of Bridgeport; his grandmother, Cora Zurface of Sabina, Ohio; one brother, Roger York and wife Sarah of Bridgeport and nine grandchildren, Caleb, Hannah, Hunter, Alli, Tanner, Kyle, Hayley, Blake and Bailey.
