Jimmy West, 60

Jimmy Gene West of Dallas died April 12 in Dallas. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike House officiating. Burial is at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.
West was born Sept. 13, 1940, in Commerce, the son of Harry and Mary Ellen West George. He married Barbara Miller on July 14, 1961, in Dallas. A former resident of Commerce, he was senior class president and valedictorian of the Class of 1959 at Crozier Tech High School in Dallas. He was a member of the National Honor Society all four years in high school.
West received his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Texas-Arlington in 1963 and his masters degree in library science from East Texas State University in 1965. He was the head of the audio-visual department at ETSU while getting his masters. He was a straight A student in high school and college. West owned and operated four Super Sub Sandwich shops in Dallas and the Garland area. He did direct mail advertising and day trading on the stock market. He was a member of the Lakewood Methodist Church in Dallas.
Surviving are his wife of Dallas; brothers, Harry West of Mesquite and Donald West of Royse City; sister, Mary Ann Pryor of Mesquite; and two dogs, "Cooper" and "Judge." He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Moran and Rickey West.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pemberton Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
Bob R. Moore, 70

Funeral services for Bob R. Moore of Commerce were held yesterday at Jones Memorial Chapel. He died April 12 in Pittsburg. Rev. Jimmy Rose and Rev. Charles Strickland officiated at the service arranged by Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home, with interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City. Serving as pallbearers were Bennie Housewright, Dwight Housewright, John Nabers, Justin Nabers and Gene Bagby.
Moorehigh school teacher, master craftsman and professional truck driverwas born in Muleshoe, Texas, May 6, 1930, the son of Benjamin Harvey and Willie Cope Moore. He graduated from Commerce High School and received his bachelor's degree and master's degree in education from East Texas State University. He was a US Air Force veteran.
Moore's survivors include his daughter, Deborah Essary of Euless; three grandchildren, Heather Moore of Mesquite; Stephen Essary and Andrew Essary, both of Euless; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Colin Humphries; sisters, Jean Housewright and Jimmie Nabers Johnson, both of Quitman, and Patricia Ann Brewer of Pittsburg; and soul mate, Freida Teel of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Terry Ray Moore on Nov. 4, 1990.

Bill Cummens, 76

Graveside services for William Glyn "Bill" Cummens of Mineola were March 21 in Mineola City Cemetery with Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. Cummens died March 17 in Mineola.
Cummens was born March 28, 1924, in Ladonia, the son of Edgar Wood and Leita Knight Cummens.
He was a retired Vocational Manpower Administrator for the U.S. Government. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sherman and the First United Methodist Church in Mineola.
Cummens lived in Mineola since 1987, having moved from Dallas.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Bart Abbott of Washington and Cave and Kent Crosswhite of Louisburg, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Joshua Abbott, Paige Crosswhite and Ray Crosswhite.

Lavelle Daniel, 85

Lavelle Daniel of Ladonia died Saturday in Commerce. Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon at Pemberton Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Mabe officiating. Burial was in Rosemound Cemetery.
Daniel was born March 10, 1916, in the Muddig Community, the daughter of Clifford and Hattie Fife Threlkeld. She was married to Malcolm M. Daniel on Sept. 16, 1934, in Durant, Okla.
A longtime resident of Ladonia, Daniel was a homemaker and a member of the First Methodist Church of Ladonia.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Dale Rex of Ladonia; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Margee Daniel of Mesquite; brother and sister-in-law, L.C. and Edwina Threlkeld; three sisters, Veta Harris and Geneva Harris, both of Dallas, and Jean Halden of Springdale, Ark.; sisters-in-law, Louise Threlkeld and Mary Threlkeld, both of Commerce; grandson and wife, Rickey and Liz Rex of Ladonia; two great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983, one grandson, two brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers were Mike Anderson, Gary Anderson, Jerry Davies, Rickey Rex, Brad Rex and Christopher Rex.
Mary Lou Klein, 57

Mary Lou Klein of Quinlan died Sunday in Dallas. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at Pemberton Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Harold Pannell officiating. Burial is in Lake Tawakoni.
Klein was born Nov. 13, 1943, in Dodd City, the daughter of W.E. and Margie Lakey. She was married to Jerry C. Klein on July 20, 1961, in Fort Worth.
Klein attended Honey Grove and L.D. Bell High School. She was a former employee of American Wood in Commerce and Wing and E-Systems in Greenville. A Baptist, she was a member of the American Legion and the American Veterans Association.
Klein is a former Commerce resident, having moved to Quinlan in 1991.
Surviving are her husband of Quinlan; daughters, Tammy Matlock and Vie Bozeman, both of Commerce, and Kelly Marcos of Sulphur Springs; brothers, Bud Lakey of California and Leldon Lakey of Greenville; sisters, Ruby Price, Fredna Couley of Cooper and Patsy Jo Avery of Lamasco; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jerry C. "Cris" Kelin in 1984; and one brother, Magness Lakey.
Varna F. Beggs, 85

Funeral services for Varna F. Beggs of Commerce will be held today at 2 p.m. at Jones Memorial Chapel. Rev. Charles Strickland will officiate at the service arranged by Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home. She die April 6 at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Lenton Ray Moore, J.C. Moore, Clarence Doolin, Morris Doolin, Norris Doolin, Carlis Bills, Clifford Bills, Doyal Bills and Merill McAlister. Interment will follow the service at Ridgeview Cemetery in McKinney.
Beggs was a housewife born in the Yowell Community Sept. 22, 1915, the daughter of Simon Ervin and Addie Immaline Rainey Moore. She married Leslie Lee Beggs in Cooper on Jan. 18, 1939.
Survivors include her sons, Mikel Beggs of Farmersville and Leon Beggs of Huntsville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 10 nephews and nine nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters and two brothers.
Charlotte Underhill, 59

Funeral services for Charlotte Underhill of Commerce will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Mike House will officiate at the service arranged by Pemberton Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Sanders, Charles Jones, Jimmie Sanders, Robert Jones, Cary Cooke and James Adams. Honorary pallbearers are John Jones, Richard Eads and Robert Peek. She died April 4 in Brenham, Texas.
Born Oct. 8, 1941, in Alton, Ill., Underhill was a collector and antique expert. Her parents were Charles Joseph and Dorothy Frances Jones Stewart, both deceased. She and her husband, Vance, were married June 30, 1963, in Sweeny, Texas. She had graduated from Sweeny High School in 1959, then attended Wharton County Junior College and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music in 1963. She taught school for one year in El Paso, and music for several years at T.A. Brown Elementary in Austin. In 1969, she moved from Austin to Commerce where she had been an antiques dealer for 31 years. Underhill specialized in napkin rings, fans and oyster plates which she sold at antique shows throughout the country, as well as at Lovers Land Antique Market in Dallas. In November 2000, she was featured in a televised segment of "Martha Stewart Living," with her collection of napkin rings. Her collections and expertise appeared in a variety of publications, including Victoria and Country Living magazines and the Dallas Morning News. She was a certified Antiques Appraiser and a member of the Coterie Club, DAR and the First United Methodist Church of Commerce. Charlotte loved her family and loved to entertain. She was always a perfect hostess.
Survivors include her husband, Vance Underhill of Commerce; daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Richard Eads of Dallas; her uncle and his wife, John and Letty Jones of Bartlesville, Okla.; Sanders and Buck families of Houston; Jones family of Ohio and South Carolina; Adams family of San Antonio; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Commerce. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Pemberton Funeral Home.
Bobby Joe Gaines, 57

Graveside services for Bobby Joe Gaines of Cumby were held yesterday at Cumby Cemetery in Cumby with Rev. Bryan Hutchinson officiating. Rodney Gaines, Brandon Gaines, Mark George, Jess George, Buddy Cameron and Douglas Cameron served as pallbearers for the services arranged by Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home. Gaines died at Denton Regional Hospital on April 1.
Gaines was born in Hopkins County on March 27, 1944, the son of Arlie and Alice Keenum Gaines. They preceded him in death.
Gaines is survived by his brothers, Troy Gaines of Cleburne; Cleo Gaines of Lake Dallas; Audie Gaines of Lake Worth; and Kenneth Gaines of Cumby.
Miriam Stephens, 86

Funeral services were held for Miriam Stephens of Commerce yesterday at the Church of Christ. David Gibson officiated at the service arranged by Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home. Interment followed at Rosemound Cemetery. She died March 25 at Presbyterian Hospital in Greenville. Pallbearers were Jim Ainsworth, Don Stringer, Steve Stringer, Colten Herman, Benny Herman and Mark Narramore.
A homemaker, Stephens was born in Klondike, Texas, April 5, 1914, the daughter of Charlie J. and Ethel Mae McCalab Stephenson. On Nov. 13, 1939, she married Ophir Lee (Steve) Stephens in Hugo, Okla. She was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Greenville.
Survivors include her husband, Ophir Lee (Steve) Stephens of Commerce; sister, Ethelyn Stringer of Commerce; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
