Derylene Crawford, 74

Memorial services for Derylene Crawford of Commerce will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Commerce. Dr. Mike House will officiate at the service arranged by Pemberton Funeral Home.
Crawford was born on Sept. 26, 1926, in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of June Elwynn and Delphia Hatchell, both deceased. She married Boley Crawford on Jan. 22, 1946, in Dallas. Crawford moved to Commerce in 1957. She had graduated from Krozier High School in Dallas in 1942. She then attended East Texas Teachers College from 1946-1950 when she received her Bachelor's Degree in English and her Master's Degree in Education. She taught for two years in Desoto Independent School District. She was office manager for Alumni Records and Services at East Texas State University, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Daniel Wayne Crawford and his wife, Robbie, of Greenville; brother, June Elwynn Hatchell, Jr., of Dallas; sister, Colesta Land of Tyler; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993.
Bobby Joe Kennedy, 69

Funeral services for Bobby Joe Kennedy of Alba will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He died Feb. 7 in Burleson, Texas. Dr. David Stubblefield will officiate at the service arranged by Peters Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. His nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is tonight from 6-9 p.m.
Kennedy was born in Logan County, Okla., on June 26, 1931, the son of James and Rudy Kennedy. On Dec. 22, 1952, he married Opal Annette Cloud in Ft. Smith, Ark. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alba. Kennedy retired as Security Administrator at E-Systems in Greenville after 25 years. He served local law enforcement as a fingerprint expert. He was a founding member of the Commerce Emergency Corps and also co-founder of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Commerce. Kennedy loved the outdoors and was an avid crappie fisherman. He volunteered his time in the '60s and '70s as a coach and referee for local youth basketball, baseball and football. His quick wit and humor were an inspiration to all who knew him. The pride of his life were his 13 grandchildren.
Survivors include his five children, Jody Kennedy, Larry Kennedy, Dana Riley, Sandra Fields and Linda Moore; brother, James P. Kennedy, Jr.; and sister, Joyce Butler. His wife, Opal, preceded him in death in 1997.
Odies Weldon Parker, 67

Funeral services were held to honor the life of Odies Weldon Parker of Cumby on Thursday, Feb. 9 at Jones Memorial Chapel in Commerce. Rev. Mike House officiated at the service arranged by Jones Walker & Son Funeral Home. Interment followed at Long Cemetery in Cumby. Pallbearers were Michael Parker, Randy Parker, Ivy Carlton, Benny Westbrook, Tim Hathcock and Ricky Lee Jones.
Parker was a brick layer who was born in Hopkins County on April 2, 1933, the son of Marvin Weldon and Dolly Lee Millsap Parker. Parker married Catherine Marks on June 6, 1955, in Sulphur Springs. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Parker of Cumby; son, Odies Allen Parker of Ben Wheeler; daughter, Linda Eubanks of Ben Wheeler; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Parker of Grand Prairie and Kenneth Parker of Oklahoma; two sisters, Mary Goforth of Grand Prairie and Louis Pearce of Corsicana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Linda Sue Parker keels in 1972.
Estelle Turner Schneider, 92

Services were held Thursday, Feb. 8 for Estelle Turner Schneider of Greenville at First Presbyterian Church of Greenville. Dr. William Benner officiated with interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City. Services were arranged by R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home of Wolfe City. Pallbearers were Tommy Cargile, Stanley Turner, Steve Turner, Randy Turner, Paul Turner, Larry Myers, Jerry Turner and Charlie Baucom.
Schneider died Feb. 6 at Briarcliff Health Center of Greenville. She was born in Shiloh, Miss., on Dec. 15, 1908, the daughter of Robert Samuel and Lula Irene Comer Turner. She married Wilmer E. Schneider on June 11, 1950, in Commerce. He died in 1967. Schneider retired from public school teaching after 40 years. She was a member of the Elevian Study Club of Fremont, Texas, and also the AAUW and Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include four brothers, Dorsey Turner of Commerce, Elbert Turner of Greenville, Robert Turner of Terrell and James Turner of Seymour; one sister, Bettie Sue Myers of Commerce; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one sister.
Brandon Reed Skidmore, 13

Memorial services for Brandon Reed Skidmore of Sulphur Springs, formerly of Commerce, will be held today at 2 p.m. at Tapp Funeral Home Chapel in Sulphur Springs. Skidmore died Friday, Feb. 9 at the Truman Smith Pediatric Nursing Center in Gladewater.
Skidmore was born on June 15, 1987, in Bethesda, Md., the son of Brad and Lisa Skidmore. He attended special education classes at Commerce Elementary School and A.C. Williams Elementary. Though he didn't start walking until he was eight, once he did, not much could stop him. He didn't speak with words, but with his eyes, his laughter, his mad face and his spontaneous hugs and his special head pats.
Survivors include his parents, Brad and Julie Skidmore of Sulphur Springs; his brothers, Austin Skidmore, Josh Pawlick and Justin Pawlick of Sulphur Springs; grandparents, Joan and Bob Skidmore of Sulphur Springs and Glenda and Gene Heiges of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; great-grandmother, Reba Wise of Etters, Pa.; great-aunt, Bobbie Skidmore of Sulphur Springs; great aunt and uncle, Martha and Dick Horn of Jefferson; uncle, Mitchell Skidmore of Garland; aunt, Janet Skidmore Cason of Commerce; and cousins, Alex and Zach Cason of Commerce.

Ludine R. Smith, 85

Graveside services were held for Ludine R. Smith of Garland on Feb. 7 at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Smith was born in Gilmer, Texas, on May 20, 1915, the daughter of John Arthur and Dora Finney Riggs. She married Cecil "Cowboy" Smith on Aug. 31, 1946. She was a beautician for over 25 years, working at Nell Bishop Beauty Salon in Dallas. She was a member of Westmoreland Baptist Church in Dallas.
Survivors include two sisters, Vaudine R. French of Winnsboro and Aline R. Thompson of Hawkins; six nieces and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Ollie Speight, 86

Services for Ollie Speight of Dallas were held Friday, Feb. 9 at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel with Bro. Duane Phy officiating. Graveside services followed at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.
Speight was born in Commerce on April 7, 1914, to James Preston and Arizona Jane Quinn Speight. He was a 59-year resident of Dallas, a member of the First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove and a Deacon of Beltline Baptist Church in Garland. He was an auto mechanic prior to his retirement.
Speight is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Speight of Dallas; son, Gene Speight and wife, Sandy, of Dayton, Ohio; daughter, Sharon Denton of Rockwall; brother, Carl Speight and wife, Catherine, of Commerce; two sisters, Mable Mixon of Garland and Odessa Quinn of Grand Prairie; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Charlotte Hyles in 1979 and five brothers.
Dr. Bertran E. Davis, 78

Funeral services for Dr. Bertran E. Davis of Commerce were held yesterday, Feb. 6 at First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Elisha Paschal and Dr. Nancy Jo Humfeld officiated at the service arranged by Pemberton Funeral Home. Interment followed at Rosemound Cemetery. Pallbearers were Todd Boatwright, David Boatwright, John Harris, Keith Savage, Jim Deaton and Ken Woodall.
Davis was born in San Antonio, Texas, on June 12, 1922, the son of Benjamin Edwin and Minnie Annabelle Walker Davis, both deceased. On June 2, 1949, Davis married Betty Hunt in Austin, Texas. Davis moved from Columbus, Ohio, to Commerce in 1968. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in El Paso, Texas, in 1940. He attended Texas College for Mines and Metallurgy in El Paso for three years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the United States, Europe and in General Patton's Engineering Corps.
Davis received his bachelor's degree in music in 1948, then his master's in music in 1949, from the University of Texas. He went to receive his doctorate from the University of North Carolina in 1960. Davis was a professor of music history at Ohio State and East Texas State Universities. He spend most of his life devoted to the history and making of the violin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hunt Davis, in 1988.
Survivors include his daughters, Elizabeth Mazzocco and her husband, Angelo, of South Hardley, Mass., and Sally Boatwright and her husband, Phil, of Mesquite, Texas; grandson, Benjamin Boatwright of Mesquite and granddaughter, Annabella Boatwright of Mesquite.
Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund at the First Presbyterian Church in Commerce where Davis was a member.
Verda Ruth Liston, 86

Funeral services for Verda Ruth Liston of Wolfe City will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Pemberton Funeral Chapel. Dr. Mike House will officiate. Interment will follow at Sonora Cemetery in Fairlie. Visitation is tonight from 6-7 p.m. at Pemberton Funeral Home. Pallbearers are David Blaylock, Rob Kernodle, Audie Apple, Brian Liston, Jason Liston and Alecia Shaw. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Fox, Jarrett Stephenson and Alan Apple.
Liston was born in Collin County on April 28, 1914, the daughter of Solon S. and Martha Lefeuer Carr. Liston was a longtime resident of Commerce, having moved from Farmersville. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin Arthur "Bud" Liston; one daughter, Martha Ann Apple; one sister and seven brothers.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Alvin Liston of Commerce; daughters, Betty Brounley of Dunedin, Fla., Elaine Lisciandro of Palm Harbour, Fla., and Jimmie L. Shaw of Commerce; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John Paul Lynch, 45

John Paul Lynch of Cooper passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, in Tyler. Funeral Mass was Thursday, Feb. 1, at the St. James Catholic Church in Sulphur Springs, with Father Kingsley Nonis officiating.
Lynch was born in Olney, Texas, March 20, 1954. He was the son of D.D. and Colleen Butler Lynch. He had lived in Cooper the past 30 years and was a carpenter. Dec. 7, 1985, he married Sandra Young.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Lynch of Cooper; parents, D.D. and Colleen Lynch of Cooper; son, Jacob Lynch of Cooper; daughters, Kristi Lynch and Haley Lynch of Cooper; brothers, Michael Lynch of Commerce, Mark Lynch of Sulphur Springs and Matthew Lynch of San Antonio; sister, Cynthia Veraska of Cooper; and one grandchild, Kaylee Lynch of Cooper.
