Ocie Lee Lowry

Ocie Lee Lowry, 84, of Abilene died Thursday at his home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ash Street Baptist Church with Dr. Robert L. Giles officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Lowry was born in Calvert, where he attended school. He moved to Abilene from Falls County 57 years ago and was a delivery person for Hoppe Auto Electric for 25 years. He was a member of Ash Street Baptist Church. He married Lucille Isaac in 1935 in Falls County; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include eight sons, Ocie Lowry Jr. of Waco, James Lowry of Houston and Frank Lowry, Willie Lowry, Bobby Lowry, Charles Lowry, Gary Lowry and Ricky Lowry, all of Abilene; six daughters, Lela Brooks of Fort Worth, Betty McChristian of Lawton, Okla., and Katy Lowry, Joyce Lowry, Barbara Lowry and Evelyn Lowry, all of Abilene; and 110 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Gladys Monette Gibbs

FORT WORTH - Gladys Monette Gibbs, 90, died Saturday at a Star City, Ark., nursing home.

Graveside services were Monday in Mount Olivet Cemetery, directed by Mount Olivet Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gibbs was born in Hillsboro and had lived in Fort Worth for more than 70 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Lake Worth United Methodist Church and Lioness Club.

Survivors include three sons, James Lee Gibbs and Bobby Gibbs, both of Fort Worth, and John Gibbs of Seattle, Wash.; three daughters, Helen Womack of Abilene, Betty Crawford of Mount Pleasant and Wanda Miller of Rison, Ark.; one sister, Grace Hitt of Naples, Tex.; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Ann Backschies

SHERMAN - Ann Backschies, 58, formerly of Abilene, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Drehmann-Harrall Funeral Home Chapel in St. Louis, Mo. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Waldo Funeral Home.

Mrs. Backschies was born in Elk City, Okla., and moved to Abilene as a child. She graduated from Abilene High School and moved to Sherman in 1993. She was office manager and certified optician for Texas State Optical and a member of University Baptist Church in Abilene. She married Ron Backschies in 1957 in Abilene.

Survivors include her husband, of Sherman; two sons, Dave Backschies of Omaha, Neb., and Dennis Backschies of Sherman; one daughter, Kari Meyer of St. Peters, Mo.; her mother, Nadine Connally of Abilene; one sister, Christy Barnes of San Angelo; and four grandchildren.

Davida Marie Young

WINTERS - Davida Marie Young, 96, of Abilene and formerly of Winters, died Monday at an Abilene hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. David Chandler officiating, directed by Winters Funeral Home.

Mrs. Young was born in Winters and graduated from Winters High School. She attended Texas Women's College in Fort Worth and the University of Texas. She taught in Harmony community and Winters High School and moved to Abilene in 1961. She was secretary-treasurer of the Literary and Service Club and was active in the Methodist church. She was a member of El Minya Court 46, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America. She married Kendrick Young in 1923 in Ballinger; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Relda Marie Dickson of Abilene; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 3302 State, Abilene 79603.

The family will be at the funeral home chapel from 6-8 p.m. today.

Georgia McCullough

BROWNWOOD - Georgia McCullough, 70, of Bangs died Saturday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Allen officiating. Burial will be in Bangs Cemetery.

Mrs. McCullough was born in Bangs and lived in Bangs and Brownwood all her life. She was a homemaker, a Baptist and a member of Brownwood Elks Lodge.

Survivors include one daughter, Vickie Weaver of Fort Worth; one son, Michael McCullough of Crowley; one sister, Patsy Hattox of Bangs; one brother, Eldon McKee of Salt Lake City, Utah; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. today.

Ethel Levene Taylor

RISING STAR - Ethel Levene Taylor, 69, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Leo Copeland officiating, assisted by Jim Nash. Burial will be in Clear Fork Cemetery in Lueders.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Lueders and had lived in Rising Star for 18 months after living in Seminole for 26 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ and American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries. She was a homemaker. She married Connie Alton "Red" Taylor in 1944 in Lueders.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Alton Joe Taylor of Keller and Ronnie Keith Taylor of Borger; three daughters, Connie Lavene Neugent and Dorothy Nadene Huffman, both of Rising Star, and Melba Lois Emerson of Roswell, N.M.; two brothers, Alvie Joe Frazier of Lueders and Wesley Carl Frazier of Rising Star; two sisters, Oleta Fergason of Rising Star and Annie Mae Kitchens of Cross Plains; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at 107 E. Gibson.

Clint Walter Johnathon Daniel Ross

ASPERMONT - Clint Walter Johnathon Daniel Ross, 12, died Monday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Ballou officiating. Burial will be in Aspermont Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.

Clint was born in Fritch and was a student at Aspermont Elementary School. He attended Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Lanie Tabor of Peacock and Zane Ross of Galveston; grandparents, Carl and Novadell Simmons of Peacock and Wesley Floyd Ross of Fritch; great-grandmother Lanie McMahon of Aspermont; two brothers, Marty Tabor Jr. of Peacock and Dalton Tabor of Johnson City, Kan.; six sisters, Heather Ross and Heidi Ross, both of Saint Jo, Holly Ross of Houston, Haley Ross of Galveston, Deborah Ross of Peacock and Mandy Tabor of Johnson City; a nephew and several aunts and uncles.

Jessie Louise Parks

OVALO - Jessie Louise Parks, 89, died Monday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ovalo Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Heinze officiating. Burial will be in Dewey Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home off Tuscola.

Mrs. Parks was born in San Saba County and grew up in the Cross Plains area, where she attended school. She lived in Junction, Lubbock and Ballinger, returning to Cross Plains in 1963. She moved to Ovalo in 1968. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the widow of Inman H. Parks, whom she married in 1924 in Llano.

Survivors include one daughter, Margie Louise Sutton of Ingram; three sons, Douglas Parks of Chandler, Bill Parks of Ovalo and Marvin Lewis Parks of Ingram; one brother, Staley Buchanan of Frost; one sister, Mary Lee Gary of Cisco; seven half-sisters, 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Robert Lee Garner Jr.

Robert Lee Garner Jr., 85, of Abilene died Friday at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Hawley Cemetery with Dave Takacs officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Garner was born in Cleveland, Ark., and moved to Abilene from Arkansas in 1947. He owned and operated a dragline business. He was a Baptist and a 50-year-plus member of Knights of Pythias. He married Louise Ellison in 1933; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include four daughters, Bobbie Estes of San Angelo, Shirley Short of Sinking Springs, Ohio, and Annette Frazier and Paula Guthrie, both of Clyde; two brothers, Quincy "Jack" Garner and Lester "Les" Garner, both of Abilene; one sister, Cleo Parmenter of Abilene; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Bethel Winter Cox

Bethel Winter Cox, 86, of Abilene died Friday in rural Taylor County.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Dr. Eddie Sharp officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.

Mrs. Cox was born in Hermleigh, attended school in Dunn and graduated from high school in Ralls in 1929. She had lived in Abilene since 1935. She was a homemaker and a member of University Church of Christ. She married Dewitt C. "D.C." Cox in 1935 in Ralls.

Survivors include her husband of Abilene; two sisters, Alva Winter Brookshier of Dallas and Evon Wrinkle of El Paso; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Katie Mae 'Mom' Zachry

Katie Mae "Mom" Zachry, 59, of Potosi died Saturday at a Dallas hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Jimmy Jividen officiating. Burial will be in Potosi Cemetery.

Mrs. Zachry was born in Tulare, Calif., and graduated from Abilene High School. She lived in Abilene most of her life. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Church of Christ. She married Leon Zachry in 1958 in Abilene.

Survivors include her husband of Potosi; one son, Joe Zachry of Potosi; four daughters, Cindy Billups and Sharon Zachry, both of Abilene, Becky Hughes of Lake Leon and Karen Savage of Potosi; her mother, Bessie Martin of Potosi; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to American Liver Foundation, 2700 West Plano Parkway, Dallas 75075.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.
