Tony Burns
COLEMAN - Tony H. Burns, 58, a lifelong Burkett resident, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Burkett Cemetery with Tom Merryman officiating, directed by Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Burns was born in Coleman and attended school in Burkett before graduating from Cross Plains High School in 1959. He was a horse trader and was affiliated with the Church of Christ. He married Dana Stevens in 1993 in New Mexico.
Survivors include his wife, of Burkett; two sons, Martie Burns of Philips, S.D., and Bucky Burns of Arlington; two daughters, Mitzi Boyd of Philips and Kristi Burns of Paris, Tex.; two stepsons, Brent Mackey and Scott Mackey, both of Burkett; and six grandchildren.

Elna Gilbert
BRECKENRIDGE - Elna Gilbert, 80, died Monday at a Victoria hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Street Church of Christ with Jim Cox officiating. Burial will be in Wayland Cemetery, directed by Melton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gilbert was born in Eastland County and attended school at Wayland and Parks. She lived in Stephens County most of her life, moving to Victoria in 1998. She was a homemaker and a member of Elliott Street Church of Christ. She married Owen Rayford "Sam" Gilbert in 1936 in Albany; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Glasscock of Snyder, Darla Smith of Victoria and Sammie Morris of Breckenridge; one sister, Claudia Brannan of Breckenridge; 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. today.

William 'Bill' Harvey
SWEETWATER - William M. "Bill" Harvey, 92, died Sunday at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Dr. Joel McCoy and the Rev. Malcolm Brown officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Mr. Harvey was born in Fisher County and lived there and in Nolan County all his life. He was a longtime farmer and rancher and a 50-year member of Sweetwater Masonic Lodge 571. He was past worthy patron of Sweetwater O.E.S. 352 and a Baptist. He married Bettina Howard in 1929 in Palava.
Survivors include his wife, of Sweetwater; one son, Turner Harvey of Sweetwater; one daughter, Billye Slaton of Marfa; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care or the Palava Cemetery Association.

Frank Skiles
GORMAN - Frank J. Skiles, 86, died Sunday at a De Leon hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Rhoton officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Desdemona Cemetery.
Mr. Skiles was born at Chalk Mountain near Glen Rose and had worked for Skelly Oil Co. as a pumper around Kermit for 25 years before retiring. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Gorman Masonic Lodge. He married M.L. Huff in 1932 in Strawn.
Survivors include his wife, of Gorman; one son, Ronald Lee Skiles of Gorman; one brother, Bill Skiles of Big Spring; two sisters, Eva Davis of Tamaqua, Pa., and Maxine Lee of Midland; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lou Jamison Matthews
COLEMAN - Lou Jamison Matthews, 72, of Lake Brownwood and formerly of Coleman County, died Monday at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rex Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in Leaday Cemetery.
Mrs. Matthews was born in Young County and grew up in Levelland, California and Las Cruces, N.M. She ranched in Coleman County and moved to Lake Brownwood in 1984. She was a Baptist. She married Oscar Clayton Jamison in 1954 in New Mexico; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Gerald Jamison of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Helen Stitt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Benito Gonzalez
COLORADO CITY - Benito Gonzalez, 76, died Monday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mitchell County Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Gonzalez was born in Kerrville and had lived in Colorado City since 1954. He was a retired road construction laborer. He married Magdalena Gonzalez in 1956 in Colorado City.
Survivors include his wife, of Colorado City; three sons, Manuel Gonzalez of Kerrville, Robert Gonzalez and Antoni0 Gonzalez, both of Colorado City; six daughters, Magdalena Montemayer of Navasota, Velia Vasquez, Maria Montemayer, Sylvia Sanford and Chonita Gonzalez, all of Colorado City, and Yolanda Stafford of Buffalo, N.Y.; one brother, Eliaso Gonzalez of Uvalde; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Tula Perry Pitts
BROWNWOOD - Tula Perry Pitts, 84, died Monday at a local nursing home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Hagemeier officiating. Burial will be in Indian Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Pitts was born in Grosvenor and had lived there and in Indian Creek, Bangs and Brownwood. She was retired from Brownwood Manufacturing after 30 years and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She married Mahlon Perry in 1935 in Indian Creek. She married Bob Pitts in Brady; both preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, M.G. "Butch" Perry of Fort Worth; one daughter, Ruthie Armstrong of Norman, Okla.; one sister, Oleta Tuman of Long Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Myrtle Wilson
CROSS PLAINS - Myrtle C. Wilson, 94, died Monday at a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Cross Plains Cemetery with Michael Ingram officiating, directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Peaster and was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married James Albert Wilson in 1921 in Wheeler; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Cecil Wilson of Brownwood and John Wilson of McAllen; three daughters, Eileen Gardner and Ruby Snowden, both of Newcastle, and Frances Thornton of Cross Plains; one sister, Jo Boatright of Cross Plains; 30 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Jimmy Dillard
STAMFORD - Jimmy Dillard, 68, died Saturday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Marshall Harris officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home.
Mr. Dillard was born in Clarksville and had lived in the Stamford area for more than 50 years. He was a Baptist and was retired from Rule Cotton compress. He married Cleo Simon in 1960; she preceded him in death. He married Iva Jean Lee in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, of Stamford; two daughters, Vivian Giddings of Midland and Ethel Thacker of Stamford; four sisters, Marie Collins, Ola Mae Johnson and Ruby Goodwin, all of Stamford, and Clara Mae Washington of Lubbock; four brothers, Ambrose Dillard of Lubbock, William Dillard Jr. of Stamford, H.W. Dillard of Abilene and Otis Garland of Compton, Calif.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

D.M. 'Happy Jack' Ables
D.M. "Happy Jack" Ables, 72, died Tuesday at his home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in College View Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Burrow officiating. Burial will be in Admiral Cemetery, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Mr. Ables was born in Admiral, where he grew up, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Dorothy White in 1947 in Abilene. He worked as a truck driver for 50 years until retiring. He then was employed by Ed Kirkman Farms. He was a member of College View Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one daughter, Mary Ables of Abilene; four sons, the Rev. Jack Ables of Dallas, John Ables and David Ables, both of Abilene, and Tony Ables of Eddy; two sisters, Joyce Cobb of Belton and Maxine Wilson of Brownwood; one brother, Donnie Ray Ables of Houston; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene 79604-9938.
Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
