Jack Meares
ROSCOE - Jack Meares, 75, died Thursday in a Lubbock hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Roscoe with Dr. Dick Willis, the Rev. Charles Addington and the Rev. Glen Roenfeldt officiating.
Burial will be in the Roscoe Cemetery under direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Mr. Meares was born in Lamesa and was married to Dorothy Harbin on June 17, 1923, in Lamesa. He taught school for 22 years, and was a one-act play director for 29 years. He was a member and past vice president of the Texas-New Mexico Floral Association.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jan Meares of Lubbock; a son, Wayne Meares of Roscoe; two brothers, Bill Meares and Lloyd Meares, both of Lamesa; and two grandsons.

Harold Birdwell Howe
SWEETWATER - Harold Birdwell Howe, 87, died Friday in a local hospital. Servies will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in McCoy Chapel of Memories, with Ministers Fred Church and Tommy Hurst officiating. Military graveside rites will be at Sweetwater Cemetery will be performed by Nolan County Honor Guard.
Mr. Howe was born in Sweetwater and married Loys Pace on Oct. 3, 1945. She died in 1962. He married Maxine Church on July 26, 1966, and she died in 1985.
He was a veteran or World War II, serving in the Army infantry. He was a member of VFW Post 2479 and lived in Sweetwater all his life.
Survivors include three stepsons, Don and Morris Haggerton of Wimberley and Norris Haggerton of Wichita Falls; one brother, Richard "Dick" Howe of Bluffton; one step-brother, Jimmy Seymour of Roseville, La.; and two sisters, Mary Freeman of Dallas and Mildred Reed of Lake Jackson.

Nancy L. Martin
SWEETWATER - Nancy L. Martin, 76, of Rt. 3, Sweetwater, died Friday in an Abilene retirement center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in McCoy Chapel of Memories. With Dr. Joel McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Mrs. Martin was born March 27, 1922 in Rockwood. She married Melvin Martin in 1941 in Abilene. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and was past president of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2479. She attended Draughns Business College in Abilene and had been a Sweetwater resident since 1949.
Survivors include one son, Greg Martin of Dallas; two daughters, Linda Fry of Amarillo and Jan Lanier of Snyder; three sisters, Cecile Doyle of Abilene, Fern Chadurgian of Hollywood, Fla., and Joan Isom of Dallas; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The owner and operator of Roscoe Flower and Gift in Roscoe, he taught school for 22 years, and was a one-act play director for 29 years. He was a member and past vice president of the Texas-New Mexico Floral Association.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jan Meares of Lubbock; a son, Wayne Meares of Roscoe; two brothers, Bill Meares and Lloyd Meares, both of Lamesa; and two grandsons.

Ola B. Hailey
CISCO - Ola B. Hailey, 94, died Friday in a Cisco nursing home. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church of Cisco. With the Rev. Gary Turner officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home of Cisco.
Mrs. Hailey was born in Hill County and married Clyde E. Hailey in Mangum in 1923. She had been a receptionist at the C&B Medical Clinic and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Margaret King of Cisco, Billie Tatom of Hilltop Lakes, Wanda Gray of Odessa and Kay Cockerell of Abilene; a sister, Goldie Slaughter of Cisco; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church of Cisco.

James W. 'Dub' Conner
SAN ANGELO - James W. "Dub" Conner, 77, of San Angelo, died Saturday in his home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Fairmount Cemetery with Bill Campbell officiating, directed by Johnson's Funeral Home, San Angelo.
Mr. Conner was born Jan. 17, 1922 in Throckmorton. He married Lillian Martin on Sept. 11, 1941 in Breckenridge. A submariner in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he was a drilling superintendent for Gilchrest Drilling for many years and retired from Ethicon as a machinist. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 1815 and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Burma Lee Hodges of San Angelo, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association.

David 'Alvis' Minton
SNYDER - David "Alvis" Minton, 90, of Snyder, died Friday at a Lubbock hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Snyder with Dr. Marty Akins and the Rev. C.J. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Snyder Cemetery, directed by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Minton was born Oct. 9, 1908 in Pilot Point. He lived in Scurry County since 1924 and was married to Iva Merritt, Helen Sandell and Orene Nettleton. He worked 45 years for Ezell Key Grain Co. where he was a manager and he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Snyder and active in the Scurry County Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Haden of Abilene; three sisters, Floy Moore of Harlingen, and Sarah Calfee and Mary Haney, both of Menard, and three grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Monroe T. Wilson
LUBBOCK - Monroe T. Wilson, 85, of Lubbock and formerly of Cisco, died Friday in Lubbock. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel in Cisco with the Rev. Joe Ainsworth and James Faubus officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco.
Mr. Wilson was born Jan. 4, 1914 in Eastland County. He married Mattie Mae Crelia, who died in 1988, on Sept. 25, 1933 in Snyder and Audrey Faubus on May 9, 1998 in Lubbock. An agent of Merchant Motor Lines in Spur for 25 years, he also owned Eastside Wrecking in Spur. He moved to Cisco in 1964 and was a fireman there for 13 years. He retired in 1978. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Frances Bradshaw of Lubbock; one son, James E. Wilson of Dallas, one step-daughter and one step-son; two brothers, A.D. Wilson of Merkle and Henry Wilson of Abilene, four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

Edgar Eugene Whitworth
Edgar Eugene Whitworth, 82, of Abilene, died Thursday in his home. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange, with the Rev. Mike Patterson and Max Gill officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Gap Cemetery.
Mr. Whithworth grew up in Kilgore and worked in the oil fields. He moved to Abilene in 1962 and was a restaurateur. He married Elsa Castrillo on March 17, 1964 in Argentina, South America.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Patricia Bowers of Arlington; three sons, Pedro A. Guglielmetti of Abilene, Les Whitworth of San Antonio, and Dick Whitworth of Rice; one brother, E.J. Whitworth of Temple, and 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Daniel Taylor
Daniel Taylor, 15, of Abilene, died Tuesday at his home. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at North's Memorial Chapel, 4002 Buffalo Gap, with Mark Bird officiating. Burial will be in Clyde Cemetery.
Mr. Taylor was born in Amarillo and moved to Clyde in 1984. He moved to Abilene in 1997. A freshman at Abilene High School, he played football there and at Mann Junior High.
Survivors include his mother, Delinda Taylor of Abilene; his father, Glen Taylor of Lubbock; two brothers, Steven Taylor of Abilene and Micah Taylor of Korea; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Wylie of Canyon and Mr. and Mrs. David Steele of Amarillo; great-grandparents, Mrs. Rankin French of Corsicana and Mrs. Edna Arnold of Canyon, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Visitation is today 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles Lee Brazil
Charles Lee Brazil, 42, of Roscoe, died Wednesday at his home. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Roscoe with Dr. Rick Willis officiating. Arrangements under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Roscoe.
Mr. Brazil was born Sept. 25, 1956 in Houston. A graduate of Roscoe High School and the University of Texas at Permian Basin in Odessa, he was a chemist working for Halliburton Inc. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his mother, Ina McFaul Mealer of Abilene, and one brother, Gerald Brazil of Midland.

John Allen Rhodes
BANGS - John Allen Rhodes, 54, of Bangs, died Thursday at his home. Services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Bangs Church of Christ, Michael Light officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, directed by Bangs Funeral Home.
Mr. Rhodes was born Sept. 27, 1944 in Connellsville, Pa. He married Joy Ferguson in Gatesville, Texas on May 2, 1984 and had lived in Bangs for 14 years. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1977 and was a farmer and rancher.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Henry Rhodes of Houston and Stephen Todd Rhodes of Copperas Cove; two step-sons and a step-daughter; two sisters, Jane Phillips and Merle E. Burns, and three brothers, Michael S. Rhodes, Chester D. Rhodes and Robin L. Rhodes, all of Keyser, W. Va., and seven grandchildren.
Visitation is today 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
