Marcia Gale ‘Meme’ Shirley
Marcia Gale “Meme” Shirley, 63, died Monday at her home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Dr. Tim Temple officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Shirley was born in Mineral Wells. She lived in Abilene most of her life and graduated from Abilene High School. She was the widow of Ron Shirley, whom she married in Abilene in 1966. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Fred Sellars of Buffalo Gap and Timothy Sellars of White Settlement; two daughters, Larisa Cook of Benbrook and Terry Archer of Abilene; her mother, Jackie Freeman of Abilene; one brother, David Freeman of Abilene; and nine grandchildren.

June Toombs
MERKEL — June Toombs, 80, of Andrews died Monday at a Midland hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Merkel Church of Christ with Larry Gill officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mrs. Toombs graduated from Abilene High School in 1936 and worked for Thornton’s Department Store in Abilene and Merkel Drug in Merkel as a sales clerk. She was a member of Senior Partners, Noodle Home Demonstration Club and Merkel Church of Christ. She married Deverl “Bud” Toombs in 1936 in Merkel. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Ronny Toombs of Medford, Ore.; one daughter, Kay McWilliams of Andrews; four sisters, Teena Volluz of Austin, Charlene Armstrong of San Antonio, and Billie Gibbons and Eslie Barbee, both of Abilene; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Arthur Joseph Pope
MERKEL — Arthur Joseph Pope, 72, died Monday at his residence.
The body will be cremated under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home. No services are planned.
Mr. Pope was born in Trenton, N.J. He was the widower of Gloria Marion Discher Pope, whom he married in Trenton, N.J. in 1948. He worked in maintenance at U.S. Steel for 19 1/2 years.
Survivors include one son, Arthur J. Pope of Merkel; two daughters, Jacqueline Davis, Trenton, N.J., and Joyce Pope of Merkel; one brother, Leonard Pope of Trenton, N.J.; one sister, Betty Sobon of Bordentown, N.J.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Lois Inez Fitzhugh
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. — Lois Inez Fitzhugh, 85, formerly of Coleman, died Sunday.
Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Coleman Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating, directed by Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Fitzhugh was born in Coleman County. She was the widow of Anson Troy Fitzhugh, whom she married in 1930. She moved to Oklahoma City in 1978.
Survivors include one son, Riley Fitzhugh; one sister, Zelda Pendergrass of Odessa; one grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Oklahoma County or First Presbyterian Church of Oklahoma City.

Melba M. Guthrie
EARLY — Melba M. Guthrie, 70, died Monday in a Brownwood hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve McMeans officiating. Burial will be in Cross Cut Cemetery in Brown County.
Mrs. Guthrie was born in Hope, Ark., and lived in Odessa for many years prior to moving to Brown County. She married Wendell Guthrie in Andrews in 1972. She was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of Brownwood; one son, Craig Montgomery of Arlington; two daughters, Shelia Norris and Susie Schnaubert, both of Odessa; and five grandchildren.

Juanita Stusse
BUFFALO GAP — Juanita Stusse, 91, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and formerly of Buffalo Gap, died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Buffalo Gap Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Heinze officiating, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home of Tuscola.
Mrs. Stusse was born in Haskell, where she graduated from high school. She was a buyer for Dillard’s Department Stores in Little Rock, Ark., and moved to Buffalo Gap in 1972 and to Oklahoma City in 1997. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Ewing McReynolds in 1924 in Haskell. She married James Victor Stusse. Both preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Ewing Mack McReynolds of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Helen Newsom of Phoenix, Ariz., and Irene Williams of Abilene; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Louise C. Thayer
RANGER — Louise C. Thayer, 79, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be at 4:30 p.m. today at Mesquite & Rusk Street Church of Christ with the Rev. Ken Evans officiating, directed by Edwards Funeral Home. The body was cremated and the remains will be buried in Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro, Calif.
Mrs. Thayer was born in Marion, Ill. She was the widow of Garland Thayer, whom she married in Pine Bluff, Ark. in 1919. She worked at Sprouse-Reitz in Holtville, Calif. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mesquite & Rusk Street Church of Christ and the Wisdom Seekers Club.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Thayer and Robert “Skip” Thayer, both of Ranger; one daughter, Cathy Sanders of Arizona; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Jesse Rodney Maxwell Jr.
BROWNWOOD — Jesse Rodney Maxwell Jr., 17, died Sunday in a Dallas hospital.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Cavitt officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral home.
Mr. Maxwell was a lifetime resident of Brownwood and a student at Brownwood High School. He was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Jesse and Darlene Maxwell Sr. of Brownwood; and one sister, Brittany Alexia Maxwell of Brownwood.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8 tonight at the funeral home.

James Clinton Lewis
SWEETWATER — James Clinton Lewis, 72, died Monday at his residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Revs. Buddy Sipe and Keith Clifton officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery.
Mr. Lewis was born in Roscoe. He married Kathleen Stevens in Sweetwater in 1946. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He worked as an auto mechanic, for the Texas Highway Department and as an agent for American National Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Sweetwater; two sons, Clyde Lewis of Garland and Stanley Lewis of Midlothian; one brother, Weldon Lewis of Midland; three sisters, Helen Watson of Dallas, Frances Green of Blackwell and Ann Kiker of Mineral Wells; and three grandchildren.
