BALLINGER — Ruth Boothe, 78, died Wednesday in a local care center.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Tony King officiating, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home.
Ms. Boothe was born in Callahan County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charlie Blackshear of Winters and Roy Blackshear of Vernon; two daughters, Ann Burnham of Ballinger and Linda Joyce Elstad of Keller; one brother, Selman Cook of Ranger; one sister, Zeola Mae Gould of Austin; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Paulo Avelino ‘Red Dog’ Hinojosa
BROWNWOOD — Paulo Avelino “Red Dog” Hinojosa, 66, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Benedict Zientek officiating. Prayer service will be at 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Mr. Hinojosa was born in Comstock and had been a resident of Brownwood since 1954. He was retired from the City of Brownwood and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include seven sons, Frank Hinojosa of San Antonio, Jerry Hinojosa, Paul Hinojosa, Johnny Hinojosa, Chris Hinojosa and Benjamin Hinojosa, all of Brownwood, and Michael Hinojosa of Corpus Christi; five daughters, Sylvia Jones of Frisco, Judy H. Valadez, Connie Hinojosa and Julie Hinojosa, all of Brownwood, and Margarita Hinojosa of Carrollton; four brothers, Joe Hinojosa of Amarillo, Florencio Hinojosa of Del Rio, Emilio Hinojosa of Comstock and Cosme Hinojosa of Brownwood; one sister, Maria Sauceda of Brownwood; and 11 grandchildren.

Sara Zuniga
ROTAN — Sara Zuniga, 73, died Monday in a Brownwood hospital.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. tonight. Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Johnrose Hayden officiating. Burial will be in Hobbs Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Zuniga was born in Morclas Coah., Mexico. She married Daniel Zuniga in 1944 in Rotan. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of Rotan; six daughters, Olga Onofrey of Hobbs, Frances Pruneda of Pasco, Calif.; Maria Cardoza of Houston, Elsa Billings and Gloria Zuniga, both of Brownwood; and Sulema Alvarez of Lugunia Niguel, Calif.; two sisters; three brothers; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Lawrence R. Sutherland, M.D., Col., U.S.A.F. (Ret.)
SUMTER, S.C. — Lawrence R. Sutherland, M.D., Col, U.S.A.F. (Ret.), 81, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at a local heath care facility.
Graveside services were held on March 15 in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors, directed by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.
Dr. Sutherland was born in Missouri. He was a retired general surgeon and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in World War II and Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Brooke Meloney Sutherland, of the home; three sons, Larry Sutherland and David Sutherland, both of California, and Tim Sutherland of San Antonio; one daughter, Linda Jeanne Henley of San Antonio; one brother, Dick Sutherland of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Odessa ‘The Donut Lady’ Hanes
ODESSA — Odessa ‘The Donut Lady” Hanes, 86, died Tuesday.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Taylors Chapel in Comanche with the Rev. Donnie Auvenshine officiating. Burial will be in Taylors Chapel Cemetery, directed by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Hanes was born in Comanche. She was the widow of Virgil Hanes, whom she married in 1932. She moved to Odessa in 1948. She worked for the Southern Maid Donut Shop for 40 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Maxine Merritt of Odessa; one stepdaughter, Joyce Glaze of Ariz.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the Comanche Funeral Home on Friday.

Donald A. Sabaitis
BIG SPRING — Donald A. Sabaitis, 60, died Tuesday at his home after a sudden illness.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, El Paso, directed by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Sabaitis was born in Dearborn, Mich. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years’ service in France, Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He had lived in Big Spring since 1984. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Pherigo of New Orleans, La., Audrey Johnston of Abilene and Karin Sabaitis of El Paso; and seven grandchildren.

Ora May McCann
SNYDER — Ora May McCann, 91, of Valley View, died Tuesday at her residence.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Hillside Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Snyder with the Rev. John Driggers officiating, directed by Clement-Keel Funeral Home.
Mrs. McCann was born in Runnels County. She was the widow of George McCann, whom she married in Mitchell County in 1927. She lived in Irving for several years before moving to Valley View.
Survivors include four sons, Lloyd McCann of Valley View, Glenn McCann of Irving, Gerald McCann of Midland and Robert McCann of Valley View; two brothers, George Caswell of Odessa and Leonard Caswell of Brownwood; two sisters, Savannah Yarbrough of Sweetwater and Mary Williams of Riverbank, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

SNYDER — Susan Ellice Cross, 42, died Tuesday in San Diego, Calif.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Odom Chapel of the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nan Swanson officiating, directed by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cross was born in San Angelo and was a 1974 Snyder High School graduate.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Ellice Cross of Odessa; three brothers, Lloyd Ray Cross and Daryl Cross, both of Odessa, and Joe Cross of Vista, Calif.; one sister, Lisa Blanchard of Odessa; several nieces and nephews.

Willie Maye Swailes
AMARILLO — Willie Maye Swailes, 92, died Tuesday.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Haskell First Baptist Church with the Revs. Randy Hatfield and Merrell Bibby officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Swailes was born in Wise County. She was the widow of James “Jess” Elmus Swailes, whom she married in Weinert in 1926. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Haskell and was a homemaker. She had lived in Amarillo since 1994.
Survivors include two daughters, Lou Hatfield and Wanda Bibby of Amarillo; one sister, Rubye Wooten of Haskell; two brothers, Russel Rainey of Weinert and Eulice Rainey of Kress; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Sue Dell Hill West, 60, died Wednesday at a local hospital
Private services will be Saturday at the Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with Mr. Wes Isbell officiating.
Mrs. West was born in Abilene. She married Bruce West in 1960. She was a member of Orient Street Church of Christ in Stamford.
Survivors include her husband of Anson; three daughters, Judy French of Abilene, Debbie Thompson of Irving, and Christy Isom of Tye; and five grandchildren.
The family will be at 1414 Avenue N in Anson.
